One day, I remembered a clinic where I was seen once when I broke my crown, and they were the only ones open that day. I googled "Oak" (all I remembered), called for an appointment, and Penelope on the other end was so sweet and accommodating -- I felt like I was talking to an old friend. When I arrived, I realized I'd gone to a different clinic, but since I was already there, I decided to stay. Penelope welcomed me like family, and the modest lobby with a lovely aquarium really helped calm my nerves. The highlight? Dr. Patrick Finn -- gentle, thorough, and with the lightest hands I've ever experienced. He explained everything clearly and made me feel at ease. The hygienist was also super friendly, and the lady who scheduled my follow-up with specialists was so organized. I jokingly told her I made a "really good mistake" ending up here -- turns out, it was one of the best mistakes I've made. I did my due diligence in dentist shopping and vetting before landing on Blue Oak Dental. I was seeking a new dentist that is professional and knowledgeable, and has good communication skills. Front waiting area features a saltwater reef tank for ambience. Patient dental care areas are clean and organized, with some odd decor (children's toys with human-like dentures-the stuff of nightmares!) Definitely something to break the ice. Patrick Finn is my dentist here. He is personable, humorous, and has great bedside manner. But most importantly, he takes any of my concerns/comments and or feedback seriously. As a person who has had bad dental experiences, prior failed procedures, and suffered through some complications with other dental services, this is absolutely essential for a patient doctor relationship for me. Am I a bit paranoid? Well yes, but not without reason. When you've already had failed dental work, or healing setbacks, you become hyper vigilant. And Doctor Finn understands that, doesn't gaslight me, explains things and describes procedures in real time as he does them. I recently went in for some tooth sensitivity, which I had suspected may be the start of a toothache. Dr. Finn saw me immediately, addressed my concerns, and for once it wasn't as serious as I feared. Just a bit of gum recession from (gasp, aging?) and or brushing too enthusiastically. I made the dreaded switch a couple of months ago. My dentist retired and the new dentists taking over the practice were younger with a more modern practice philosophy. Thus, I decided to give my wife's dentist a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Dr. Arena is patient, experienced, considerate, and understanding. And, he's super honest. I took my daughter in one day for a same day appointment. At the end of the visit he told us "there's no charge." What?!? Now that's unusual! Old school some might say... Oh; I almost neglected to mention the office team.... They are fantastic! This place is great! Well, needless to say I am a happy camper and have found my dental home until Dr. Arena retires or I move out of the area, whichever comes first. read more

I can't necessarily review Dr Arena as a dentist, but was pretty disappointed in my inquiring phone call with the receptionist today. I called to inquire as a new patient for both my husband and me. We are on a new insurance plan, which I am unfamiliar with. Being a healthcare worker myself, I assumed that it would be easy for them to find my dental insurance by giving them my social security number as we do for patients in the hospital. Before I could even finish asking if looking up my insurance with my social was a possibility, I was cut off and told sternly "No. That's not how this works. I can't just look up your social security and find your insurance for you." I felt stupid in the moment (which I felt was her goal in responding the way she did), and a little shocked at her attitude. She then proceeded to tell me that Dr Arena was not accepting new patients anyways. I understand now that looking up my insurance in this way isn't possible for them to do, but I just wish she was nicer about it. How is an outsider supposed to know that this isn't possible? I'm quite bummed because I have been told great things about this doctor from my coworker, and was excited to be a patient of his. read more

It's really hard to find an honest dentist anymore, everything's a cavity!!! But the doctor here has been so honest, even giving small cavities time to see what happens with them. He's good. I can't believe my experience. I had other dentists try to make me go into veneers for one tooth that was bonded. Dr. Arena was able to revitalize my smile with non invasive procedures. He saved my original teeth. Gave me advice now to keep away from veneers. Never have I ever trusted anyone as much as Blue Oak. I had been experiencing a pretty horrible tooth ache for the past few months and needed to go in somewhere ASAP to get it checked out. I called Blue Oaks Dental because they were right across the street from me and was greeted by a very friendly and informative woman. I got all my questions answered and appointment set with Dr. Gorman. When I went in I was once again greeted by a very lovely woman who was EXTREMELY patient and kind. Then I was taken back to the chair by Anna who was so personable and lovely! I get severe anxiety at the dentist and she helped talk me through everything and kept my mind busy by asking me lots about myself as well as telling me lots about herself! Then Dr. Gorman came in and precise, friendly, and really funny! He seems to have a lot of knowledge and took the time to show me what work needed to be done on my x-rays so I was able to see for myself and knew I wasn't getting scammed. After my consult they sent me back to the front desk (Anna personally walked me up there) and they even set up my Endodontic consult right then and there for me!! I have had a lot of bad dentist experiences growing up, but I actually enjoyed this one! Definitely a very nice office with incredible staff! Check them out!!! read more

Everyone here is so kind. I do not personally have a hard time going to the dentist, but they make it more than just another errand. I have a good friend that takes her daughter here. She told me how her daughter had a fear of dentists, and refuses to go back to any of them. After I recommended Blue Oaks Dental, she took her there, and never looked back. Wow I never had so much fun at the dental clinic! Since the base only does exams, the actually cleaning is outsourced to outside clinics. So my clinic is here in Rocklin... about a five minute drive from my house. (can you say bonus points) The waiting room is very clean with plenty of seating. The waiting room also has a small TV, salt water fish tank, and a variety of reading material to keep you entertained as you wait. My wait time was very short. I was in and out in under an hour. All of the staff here are awesome! They actually enjoy what they are doing and it shows!! This place resonates success! Hopefully for my next scheduled cleaning I can return here. read more

I went to this dental office with not one but two different dental insurances. Before any of our visits I asked them to make sure we were covered, they assured me that we were. After not one or two visits but after all 4 visits were finished they sent me a bill for over $600- stating that they did not take either of my insurances!!! I was appalled!! When I refused to pay (seriously with two seperate dental insurances who would pay out of pocket?!!) they then put me into collections! I would not reccomend this underhanded office to anyone and would say to avoid them at all costs! read more

I loved this dentist for the few years that I was a patient. I'm so sad to have to switch due to moving away! The hygienists are so sweet and personable. I would recommend this dentist office to any family or friends mostly due to their trustworthiness. Dr. Arena and the hygienist (forgetting her name, I'll add it when I remember) never once gave me a diagnosis for treatment that wasn't totally honest. I've heard horror stories from people at different dentists diagnosing them with expensive treatments that they didn't need or cavities that they didn't have, you WILL NOT get that here. We recently relocated our family to Rocklin and are so happy to have found Blue Oak Dental! The office staff is friendly and helpful, the office is clean and functions well.
