Great coffee spot! My husband and I stopped in this afternoon for about an hour and a half to do some work. It was pretty busy around 1:30 but we got a table. I had the night owl latte with activated charcoal and lemon honey, really good! We are suckers for a really good latte. They have their own homemade honey sweeteners, some interesting options. For our taste, the normal amount was too sweet. I got my latte with a light amount and it was perfect. Will definitely go back next time we're in town! read more

The drinks have been fine- however every time I go here the service is bad. The first time, the barista told me my drink sounded gross (a latte with vanilla and clove syrup). Then the next time I'm in, my barista couldn't remember my drink order to save her life. I wanted to give them another chance so I tried to visit and the hours on the door say Monday - Saturday 7:00am - 10:00pm. With it being Saturday I assumed that meant the shop was open at 7:45am. There are no other signs posted about any sort of hour changes. I walked in and the baristas told me they were in fact closed and treated me as if I should have known that. When I politely told them that their door says they open at 7:00am they rolled their eyes and said flatly "pre-Covid hours" as if that was obvious. They have had over 3 years to change their sign and haven't? That seems so strange to me. I'm very disappointed and personally will not be back. read more

I go here all the time to study and have always really enjoyed it. However, today is October 8th and one of the baristas has been playing Christmas music for the last 1.5 hours. Not only is that terrible, but also she is playing it off of her phone so the songs are not only terrible but the sound is also terrible. read more

I'm originally from Lansing area but normally only make it back for the holidays. This is my first visit to REO Town and was amazed. I tried the cold brew and nitro cold brew at Blue Owl and both were great! Also, the place was packed with friends conversing and MSU students studying, I liked the vibe. The coffee is delicious. All their syrups are made in house. None of that crappy bottled stuff. The best part in my opinion are the staff, though. It's always a pleasant surprise to me when I visit a coffee shop with kind, friendly staff. They're happy to answer questions, give suggestions and just say hi. It's a lively, charming spot for a study session or a social or professional chat. Got the whole exposed brick, raw, wooden floors, lots of light-- the things that one needs in a coffee shop- and staff are usually fairly friendly. Now, feel free to file this along with many other cranky, #GetOffMyLawn posts, but I don't understand how a cup of drip coffee in my own modest-sized travel mug costs $3.71. I don't really care about pourover special stuff with notes of carob, tarragon, and butter cookies. I am really more of a low-key, "can i please dispense this in large amounts from a heated or insulated metal vat and is it still decent coffee" coffee drinker. The pastries are nice. This place is great. It has awesome coffee and ambiance. My only complaint is that the music is on way too loud. If you look around, the vast majority of the people at the cafe are there to study as with most coffee shops; therefore, the managing staff should take that into consideration and keep the music low. read more

Absolutely loved my first visit to Blue Owl! I was having a pretty rough day at work and knew I wouldn't be able to concentrate at home, so I decided to take the 164 page report that I haven't had much time to review to Blue Owl to wrap up my work day. I was incredibly impressed with the barista who took my order, as she was super pleasant and friendly. I knew I picked the right spot to work after hearing her positive tone. I ordered the 'Red Ryder' because I try to limit my caffeine intake after lunch, and it was delicious. I also tried one of the lemon cookies and loved everything about it. Size, texture, flavor... it was perfect. I thought it was pretty cool that they use the square rewards program. That has become increasingly popular around town, and it makes earning rewards at you favorite businesses *that* much easier. I spent several hours here reviewing my report tonight, with a few small breaks and a cup of Michigan herbal hot tea after I finished my Red Ryder, and the customer service here was incredible during my entire visit. A second barista saw that I was running low on tea after a little while and asked if I'd like some more hot water without being prompted, which I thought was pretty cool. I also saw so many incredible things while I was here. A local artist had a mixed media/acrylic on canvas painting featured on the wall, and there was a board for local events/flyers near the restrooms. I saw hugs between friends, couples holding hands, and others like me with their heads in their work. I also witnessed a gentleman who appeared to be down on his luck receive a cup of coffee on the house, which pulled on my heart strings a little bit. This is a great Coffee House in a wonderful vintage building circa 1910 with nice bohemian decor. Expected coffee to be good...but did not expect it to be this good. Seriously delicious coffee. The barista combined honey and brown sugar to sweeten my drink since they didn't have the typical syrups found at other coffee shops. This is a great place! The decor is repurposed this and that, the coffee is top notch, and the people are friendly....my favorite coffee shop in mid-Michigan. Note: This only happened once, but you should know that if they ask you if you want cream, and you are particular about how much, don't let them pour it in. Very friendly staff and unique coffee. I walked in and was immediately greeted by one of the gentleman working there. He asked if I had any questions. I told him that I liked lavender and he immediately recommended their lavender latte. I've had lavender lattes before and they're usually almost always overly sweet. But not Blue Owl Coffee's! It was delicious. Lightly sweetened with the perfect amount of lavender flavor. I enjoyed it so much that after walking around reo town for 10 minutes, I turned back around and went back in for another cup of their coffee. This time I came out with one of their nitro coffees with a hint of orange. It was deliciously smooth with just the right amount of orange flavor. The atmosphere seems very conducive to studying too. I am so glad this place opened near me. My wife and I just bought a house in the neighborhood and regularly come to Blue Owl to get our fix. there selection is unique and is easily the best coffee in town! If you haven't had the "Wake the Dead" nitro, I would highly recommend it (unless it is after 7:00pm). Strongly recommend! read more
