Blue Pig Tavern is located in a glassed-in patio area adjoining and contiguous to the Congress Hotel. It is a bit hard to find as it seeming;y lacks its own outdoor signage. The odyssey to finding it was well worth the effort. We had dinner reservations but on a Monday in May, probably did not need them. We both loved our flounder almondine order, despite it being a Monday night (when one does not typically order fish and expect it to be fresh). This really was! Service was top-notch and super-friendly from Jared, who was deeply apologetic when the oyster appetizer we ordered failed to appear - he comped a beer without prompting (and insisted upon it). Even absent this gesture, his attitude and manner made our evening - the excellence of the entrees was a cherry on top. One note and not the fault of the restaurant at all - a number of families with small children were dining at other tables. This is not an especially well-suited restaurant for families with under-5 kids. Their collective noise and behavior was more akin to, well, a Chuck-E-Cheese or MacDonalds. Dear Yelp, Made reservations here a week before our stay. Arrived about 6 minutes before our reservation time and had to wait. Hostess seemed frazzled. Asked us if we minded sitting on the inside deck. We did mind and were then show to a table inside the restaurant. (If we had our kids with us, then I would have not minded eating on the deck). The table was an awesome tucked away corner table that faced the inner dining room. The decor and experience were top notch. I'm glad I said no to eating outside. The room is absolutely beautiful if you are into vintage looks. I said it looked like Gaston's Tavern. Food and waitress service was good. My sister had the short ribs and they were tasty. My friend and I spent a weekend in Cape May and there was a blunder with our Saturday dinner reservation. We had to find somewhere with an opening in the midst of prime dinner hours. Blue Pig Tavern had an opening within 15 minutes of us finding out our original plan was no longer an option. We walked over and had a 10 minute wait, so we went over to the bar and each order a glass of wine (Cabernet and Sauvignon). Our table was ready by the time we were looking for a seat in the lounge. We sat in a little enclosed porch area overlooking the patio.. it was a lovely area to sit in with plenty of natural light. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to share and for our main course, I ordered the prime rib (the evening special) and my friend ordered the gnocchi. The portions were generous and we had leftovers for the following day. My prime rib was perfectly cooked (medium rare) with an au jus with a side of mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Blue Pig is tucked into the back of Congress Hall. Once we found the entrance, we asked the hostess if we needed to feed the meters since it's off-season. She had no idea (but we discovered the answer was Yes). They were doing a brisk business on a Monday afternoon in November. The food was very good, and the atmosphere was exactly what we expected for a special family gathering. Unfortunately, the service fell far short of the occasion. Our party of 11 was celebrating together, and our waiter seemed completely disengaged and uninterested in making the experience enjoyable or memorable. Rather than being accommodating, he came across as inconvenienced by even the simplest requests. A prime example was when I asked to have my son's family's meal added to my check. You would have thought I was asking for a free meal instead of making a routine billing request. The response and attitude were disappointing and unnecessary. We sat in the main room with the fireplace, and it's particularly dark and hard to read the menu by table light alone. This restaurant is conveniently located off the mall and inside the Congress Hall Hotel. Congress Hall is beautiful and historic. It's a must try when visiting Cape May! The restaurant always has a great list of specials in addition to their menu. The bread was next level and served piping hot! We split the fried brussel sprouts (a special) and calamari to start. Both were fantastic! For my entree, I had the scallops. I love scallops and these were up there with some of my favorites I've ever had. This got a bit complicated when our waiter had to suddenly leave shortly after we put in our drink orders due to a family emergency (totally understandable, he's human). Blue Pig Tavern came at the recommendation of my parents as a place to try for breakfast. When traveling, I like sitting for breakfast - and after checking out the menu this seemed to fit the bill. That being said, I made a reservation for the morning of my last day before heading home. BPT is located in Congress Hall; the hotel itself has a lot of history by being one of the oldest seaside resorts in Cape May - which is the US's oldest seaside resort town. So you can say it really all started here. The hotel has a lot of history, and the theming is a mix of upscale with classic Americana. That theming spills into BPT - it has a fresh look while still paying homage to its roots. I had an 8am reservation which was right when they opened and was seated in their outdoor enclosed porch. The breakfast menu has a good selection, broken down by egg dishes/omelettes, special dishes, waffles, pancakes, and sides. It's worth noting that several of the ingredients they use in the dishes come from Beach Plum Farm in West Cape May - a nice touch. Though I love pancakes and waffles, I wanted something a little higher in protein. After browsing, I landed on the Eggs Blackstone - kind of a spin on Eggs Benedict. The dish contained poached eggs, spinach, tomato, bacon, and black pepper hollandaise sauce all sitting atop cheddar biscuits. The dish was good - despite the components it wasn't too rich, and all of the flavors complemented each other. The dish came with potatoes on the side which were solid. Service was good; food was served in an appropriate amount of time and all the staff I interacted with were friendly. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Blue Pig Tavern - the food was a win, the service was solid, and the aesthetics were lovely. This restaurant is becoming one of our favorite spots to dine when we're in Cape May. Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Nestled inside Congress Hall, the ambiance inside and outside is spectacular. The inside seating is warm and rustic with a fireplace, the outside could be either sitting on their lovely patio where you have a view of the people coming and going through the shopping area or sitting out in the Congress Hall courtyard, that's usually available when the weather is nice. On this occasion we came for lunch and the weather was still a little cool so we opted to sit in their front porch area which is between the indoor and patio dining area. It was wonderful. To start off, my wife and I ordered a couple of martinis to go along with a half dozen Cape May Salts Oysters from our very friendly and attentive waitress. The martinis and the oysters were on point. After this we went with a couple of bowls of New England Clam Chowder which was some the best you will have. Creamy, flavorful and loaded with fresh clams. For our mains my wife ordered the Crispy Fish Sandwich which was beer battered fried haddock, served with tartar sauce, shaved lettuce, tomato, red onion and tavern fries which was delicious. I ordered the Fish & Chips, also with beer battered haddock, tavern fries, malt vinegar and tartar sauce which was honestly one of the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. The batter was so light and fish was so flavorful and tender. After we were done we went to have a couple of drinks in the Brown Room which is adjacent to the restaurant to cap off just a wonderful experience. One downer is the outside patio that used to be isolated by a tall hedgerow is now wide open to surrounding vehicular traffic and a brutal sun. Came here with a bachelorette party this weekend. We were a large group of about 14. We had made the reservation well in advance and there seemed to be no issues accommodating us. When we got there we were handed a small paper with less than a dozen options as the "menu". Two of these said options were literally oatmeal. I asked the woman who seated us where the full menu was and she said for a group of our size they could not provide us with the full menu. My first issue is this was never communicated to us when making the reservation. Obviously you go to a restaurant for food, so if you're going to severely limited the options we're allowed we should be notified well in advance so we can decide if we still want to eat there. Second issue is many of the women in our group had dietary restrictions and allergies which limited their options even more. We had looked at the menu online ahead of time so the girls could pick food that was safe for them to consume and then they weren't even an option for us to order. Third there were dozens of tables being serviced, with groups of 2-8 people at them. What is the difference of them all ordering from the full menu but 14 of us can't order from the full menu??? The service was good and my meal was yummy but I'm luckily not a picky eater nor do I have dietary restrictions tons. A lot of us were very disappointed.
