We are visitors here in Cape May, friends brought us here, fancy digs, but very nice brunch, great omelette!

My friend and I spent a weekend in Cape May and there was a blunder with our Saturday dinner reservation. We had to find somewhere with an opening in the midst of prime dinner hours. Blue Pig Tavern had an opening within 15 minutes of us finding out our original plan was no longer an option. We walked over and had a 10 minute wait, so we went over to the bar and each order a glass of wine (Cabernet and Sauvignon). Our table was ready by the time we were looking for a seat in the lounge. We sat in a little enclosed porch area overlooking the patio.. it was a lovely area to sit in with plenty of natural light. We ordered a shrimp cocktail to share and for our main course, I ordered the prime rib (the evening special) and my friend ordered the gnocchi. The portions were generous and we had leftovers for the following day. My prime rib was perfectly cooked (medium rare) with an au jus with a side of mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It was so good! My friend said her gnocchi was outstanding! Our wine was a perfect match to our dishes as well. We are already talking about when we go back.

This was our second trip to Blue Pig and it didn't disappoint. Our server, Buddy, was great. Even my 10 year old commented that he was a great waiter. The special was Cioppino and it was delicious

Blue Pig is tucked into the back of Congress Hall. Once we found the entrance, we asked the hostess if we needed to feed the meters since it's off-season. She had no idea (but we discovered the answer was Yes). They were doing a brisk business on a Monday afternoon in November. We all enjoyed our meals - I especially liked my turkey burger with feta and tzatziki. Servers were no-nonsense and not very friendly. Didn't care for the ambiance - it's a little old fashioned for me. At least the food was good.

Looking for a festive meal in a historic venue? Stop by the Blue Pig Tavern in old Cape May. Located in Congress Hall, there is plenty of history dating back to the founding of the thirteen colonies. I found myself on a cool summer evening, watching tourists and locals weave in and out, whiling away the time and digging into a huge plate of fish and chips. The portions were big and the food was prepared exactly as expected. If you're looking for some historical flavor to add to your meal, powder your wig, think like a revolutionary, and stop by the Blue Pig Tavern.

Another fabulous dinning experience. The food is delicious. We sat outside and brought our Schnoodle with us. Listened to live music, relaxed and had a few drinks. Congress hall is such a beautiful place. Staff is very attentive.

CAPE MAY: Blue Pig Tavern is a classy restaurant serving up elevated American cuisine and drinks amongst the historic Congress Hall, Cape May resort. Blue Pig Tavern allows leashed and friendly dogs at their seasonal outdoor seating and we really enjoyed dining under the pergola with fall decor and the backdrop of the hall. Serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, we savored the avocado toast, eggs benedict, a side of home fries, and a nice warm latte on a chilly morning. In the off-season, they have portable heaters to keep things cozy. (FYI, Congress Hall hotel is not dog friendly inside.)

The Blue Pig is one of my favorite Cape May restaurants! The drinks, food, service, and atmosphere are all top notch! This restaurant is conveniently located off the mall and inside the Congress Hall Hotel. Congress Hall is beautiful and historic. It's a must try when visiting Cape May! The restaurant always has a great list of specials in addition to their menu. The bread was next level and served piping hot! We split the fried brussel sprouts (a special) and calamari to start. Both were fantastic! For my entree, I had the scallops. I love scallops and these were up there with some of my favorites I've ever had. The combo of the scallops with the bacon, sweet potato puree, brussels, and hazelnuts was truly perfect! I would order this again and again! A must try in Cape May!

We had lunch at the blue pig tavern today. It was good, not great. We had blueberry muffins, which were too enormous rolls with vanilla cream, frosting, and blueberries, nice. I had poached eggs with fried potatoes and spinach on a biscuit. Also nice. My seafood chowder was below average, thickened with lots of flour and more chicken than seafood in the base. We also had a smash burger that was delicious. The vegetarian omelette was average. Service was slightly slow.

This place has a really nice ambiance. Came here for brunch and we were right on the cusp where we could get either breakfast or lunch. This got a bit complicated when our waiter had to suddenly leave shortly after we put in our drink orders due to a family emergency (totally understandable, he's human). There was some confusion by the restaurant about who would be our replacement waiter. The food was pretty good. I got the lobster roll which was big (not the best lobster roll but still decent), my son loved his pistachio chocolate French toast and my daughter loved her pancakes. Spacious, really nice interior, one of the better restaurants in Cape May I would say.

Really nice spot with a great vibe -- ambience is warm and service was great. The food was pretty good overall, and the mimosas were definitely strong. Only downside: the home fries came with peppers and onions, which weren't mentioned on the menu -- would've been good to know in advance. Still, a solid brunch spot we always make sure to stop at when in Cape May.

Ask the Community - Blue Pig Tavern

    Is there parki g?

There's valet parking for one hour if you're not staying at the hotel. Street parking and parking lots have meters.

    Is the outdoor area covered?

There are umbrellas over most tables.

    Do they do bottomless mimosas?

Not as of November 2019 when I was last there. And the mimosas they do have are pricy. A carafe is $40.

They were really gracious and service was perfect. The byob element I personally love (bring what you want and pay normal rates for it) but I could see how this could be problematic for vacationers not prepared. The glassware was beautiful - one of my pics shows it. The atmosphere is very pleasant - a little romantic, a little modern but all in all perfect for an anniversary dinner - we had a corner table with bench seating so we could snuggle :) We chose three apps because it was early and we thought we'd hit another place late. These two are the duck wings and the crispy shrimp. Both delicious but the wings VERY good. We also had a swordfish crostini done on a crispy won ton and we both liked that very much. Pricing seemed reasonable. I'd recommend.

We had some ordering confusion which impacted my experience a bit. Overall the appetizers far out performed the seafood, which given were at the beach, was a bit sad. The wings were tasty. The stand out was the K&B salad which had great dressing. Loved the hot/cold contrast between the flash fried Brussels and the kale salad. I had the scallops- average and with quite a bit of grit. The carrots it came with seemed boiled and again relatively flavorless. My husband had the sea bass but unless you got some of the very minimal sauce it was plated with, it was fairly bland. I didn't even sense salt and pepper. For the price point, I wouldn't rush back for dinner but might try another meal.

Service by Mickey was wonderful. She was honest, helpful, attentive, let us set the pace, and made our visit great. On to the food. We began with a cucumber, gimlet, and a Hendrix martini. Both were delicious. For appetizers, we have the deviled eggs, Heirloom tomato and melon salad, and the unbelievably delicious Parker House rolls (4 for $8). The deviled eggs ($15) were some of the best we've had but come only three halves to an order (each topped differently, duck, lobster, Cherry). The salad ($20) was OK, but honestly a little bland. I don't think I would order it again. And I highly recommend the rolls and the eggs though. For entrées, my wife had the Cape May Scallops ($49) which were fantastic. I had the duck appetizer ($32) for my entrée. The sliced duck breast was more than enough and very tasty. My only complaint was it wasn't cooked medium rare as stated, it was cooked all the way to medium, which was only a little pink. Still it was delicious. We also shared a side, the special charred snap peas ($12) - very good! No room for dessert tonight.

While the…read morekitchen and bar are clearly talented, the service and management decisions completely ruined the evening. The Positives: I have to give credit where it is due as the food and drinks were genuinely great. We ordered the calamari, celery root soup, scallops, and the chicken breast. Everything came out delicious and perfectly prepared. The drinks were also a highlight specifically the pomegranate margarita and the winter sangria. The bartender clearly knows what they are doing. The Service: Absent and Unprofessional. Unfortunately, the night took a sharp turn regarding the service. Our waitress was virtually non existent. She spent the entire night chatting with another couple, barely sparing a moment for our table outside of taking the initial order. It got to the point where the bartender had to do the waitresses job. Our drinks were sitting on the bar for quite a while until the bartender finally walked them over to us, saying, "I just wanted to drop these off so they wouldn't sit out." Later, we watched the bartender go into the back and run food to the other couple, the very table our waitress was busy socializing with, telling them he, "just wanted to bring this out so it would still be hot." The bartender was acting more like a waiter than our actual server was. Sketchy Billing & Atmosphere: Things got even stranger when the check arrived. We noticed a $24 charge for a "cheeseburger"--an item that isn't even on the menu. We flagged down the waitress, and before we could even explain the issue, she immediately said, "Oh yes, you are right, there is an error, sorry about that." It was an incredibly odd reaction; she knew there was an error before we even vocalized what was wrong. To top it off, the dining room was absolutely freezing. When we asked why, the waitress claimed the heat was broken. However, upon visiting the restroom, the heat was pumping just fine. It felt deliberate--like a corner cutting measure to save money during the off-season rather than a genuine mechanical failure. Overall: Despite the food being delicious, the terrible service, the suspicious billing "error," and the uncomfortable temperature make this a place I cannot recommend. For the price point, you expect a certain level of professionalism and comfort, and Ebbitt Room failed on both counts. I will not be returning.
