I think this branch may be consolidating with the other on Ward, but it's the same group. So... a friend and I were on Oahu in November. He rented a board here for the week, I bought a board at another shop and then consigned mine here. The 8' he rented was really a nice board out of a pretty good selection of rentals. I'm not a fan of rentals, but sometimes you have to, and if you do, they have some decent boards, although I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. For longer boards, they had better selection, but it may be a crap shoot. I'm pretty picky, but I could have found something that would have worked I'm sure, but I had some additional time to look around town. The guys at the shop were real nice though. At the end of my week on Oahu I took the quad that I had bought at another shop to consign at Blue Planet because I liked the staff so much. They were straight up, real cool. I sold my board that I had bought for the week in about 3-4 weeks, and the consignment fee wasn't too big. They made a fair fee on it and I sold the board, no problem. And the check arrived to me in CA pretty quickly. Not immediately, but hey, it's a surf shop. They were cool, and I'll be back there on my next trip. read more

I took my board here for a ding repair--the repair turned out just fine, but the job took twice as long as I had been quoted. They told me a week and then just kept telling me that it wasn't ready. It ended up being over two weeks. I just felt that they gave me the run around some...they never seemd quite straight about why the job was delayed. I got a couple of answers from different people that didn't match. Like I said, the job ended up fine, but the handling of it was sketchy. read more

Great customer service from the top down. The staff was knowledgable and helpful. Rented a board during a visit and later applied the cost toward purchasing a 10'2" Easy. Blue Planet applied rail tape to the board at no cost. Board was securely packaged and arrived in perfect condition. Robert was prompt in returning emails & phone calls. Very helpful in answering questions. I'm pleased doing business with Blue Planet. Establishing a relationship with a board shop out of state is difficult, but NOT with these guys. read more

My intention was to write a very favorable review of Blue Planet but, after reading the reviews, I would say they are an EXCELLENT and knowledgeable resource. All of the "complaints" listed here on Yelp, were answered and addressed by the owner. My husband and I walked in today and, 2 salespeople were busy but one broke away to ask if we had any quick questions and that one of them would be with us as soon as possible. Kevin was with us shortly and helped us in our purchase of 2 SUP's. He was informative and honest. We got a good package for me and a good deal for my husband who is more experienced with surfing and SUP's. I was convinced that we would be happy with our purchase. I've had many good experiences with Blue Planet Surf, but the last 2 times I rented from them they have charged me for extremely minimal cosmetic deformities following outings. On each of these outings I hit absolutely nothing in the water and was only paddling in front of the reef at ala moana park. On one hand maybe the paddle I was using inadvertently smudged the rail, but do you really want to worry about that kind of minutia? It makes it hard to have fun. On the other hand maybe it's hard to make ends meet and it's a way to make an extra 10 bucks. Fine, but why leave the customer with that nasty taste in their mouth? Frankly it seemed shady the first time and extremely shady when it happened a second time. I'd say if you go just assume you'll spend an extra 10-20 bucks, or you should document every single minor smudge on the board and stomp pad before renting. Don't let them talk you out of considering something damage because it's too manini, I promise they'll bring it up on return and you'll be in an awkward "really?" Dance and you'll be forced to pay and they'll kill your buzz from the fun you had out on the water. Great boards, good price even with the fines, but get ready for some shady extra stuff at the end of the day. read more

Very reasonable and the staff is very knowledgeable and will be able to assist you in your quest for the perfect board according to your needs and experience! Vince the manager was great, he hooked me up on a possibly broken paddle. I heard it crack while paddling into a wave out surfing and brought it in for assessment. We couldn't find any cracks on it but Vince gave me a new blade just to be safe. The new blades are an improvement upon the older (less than a year old) paddle I had. I am pretty happy they back up their product. His stuff isn't the most expensive but its not the cheapest either so solid support is important to me, price isn't everything. Blue Planet is a happy medium for good value and the boards do work. I take my "funster" out in overhead to overhead plus north shore surf all the time and the board does well. Good luck! read more

Tony is the bomb! Wow. Great service and incredibly knowledgeable about the local surf scene and trends in the SUP industry. On top of that, Blue Planet will deliver their very nice rental boards to your hotel for a nominal fee. I've been traveling to Honolulu for 20 years for work and wish I would have discovered this shop 20 years ago. No longer do I need to waste any time trying to figure out which surf stand in Waikiki might have a decent board (unfortunately they are usually pretty jacked up) or worry about what time they open or close. Just call up Tony at Blue Planet, or stop by, and they'll hook you up with a killer board. This last trip I just checked the board in with the bell hop at my hotel and every time I wanted to surf I just grabbed the board and walked across the street. So nice. Awesome! Their multi day rates are amazing and on top of that they have a 'rent to own' program. Sounds like I work for them. I don't. Just super stoked I found the perfect solution for my Surf/SUP needs. I love the great selection of surfboards here, (not stand up boards.) For a teenager, they offer reasonable prices, I brought a new Channel Islands Whip for $380 when the retail is way above that! I also Brought a 4'9" Fartknocker from them a few days ago at (again) below retail. I love this place! For a teenager this shop sells boards at affordable prices, I will definitely return again! I got my first SUP here today with rail tape, leash, and carbon fiber paddle. The staff were all very friendly, provided advice, and had me set up in just a few minutes. They patiently answered my dumb noobie questions and kindly showed me how to safely tie down the board on my racks before I set off. They even referred me to another competing business for roof racks they did not carry. Prices were good, and they gave me a break on a complete setup. I recently had the good fortune to be in Honolulu and through the recommendation of a friend contacted Robert Stehlik at Blue Planet for a SUP surfing coaching session. Robert was very easy to plan a trip with and he ended up meeting me on my first morning in Honolulu and took me out to a perfect break for learning to catch waves standing up. Our whole family, me, hubby and two boys aged 14 and 9, took some SUP lessons with Robert during our holidays. Coming from Australia, my older son is an experienced surfer, the younger one an aspiring one, hubby ok and me a total non-surfer/watersport-person. Still, Robert with his very patient and friendly manner took us under his wings and taught us all how to do SUP and how to improve further from a higher level, all at the same time and with lots of laughter and fun for all of us! Time flew, nobody felt out of place and we all managed to paddle together up and down Ala Moana quite a few times on that morning! We received some photos that Robert took during the lesson on the very same day as a great memory as well. Robert's team was also very helpful in organising my older son's brand new longboard and travel bag so we could bring everything safely and without any issues back to Sydney which meant one very happy 14year old boy in our family! Being never surfed ever! I bought my first used surfboard here. I was expecting some knowledgable help from this shop which I did get from Adam that was very friendly and helpful. Adam as well as the tag on the board informed me the fins went with this board.The board is great, but when I attempted to install the fins at home there were fitting issues. Funny, the fins didnt fit. And the tool they sold me to install fins didnt work either. !@#$%^&*...I wanted to surf tonite! This I know for sure because my local neighbor surfer told me so the next morning. He told me I had to hand file down the fin. And I found another tool to fit fin screws in my own tool bag. I am a busy business man, the shop told me to come back down to shop. After calling for two days and leaving messages because they never answer their phone and only check messages every 10 days per their recorded message, I just fixed it myself in 10 minutes. The point I am trying to make is.... do not take for granted that all parts and tools will work, please check compatability before leaving the shop or you will be wasting your own time! *The used board I bought came with a main fin that didn't fit . It had a flair near the screw that didn't allow it to fit into the rail. I filed it to fit with the advice of a friendly local surfer. * The wax scrapper tool didn't fit the twin fin screws. * Checking phone messages every 10 days is a bit arrogant. If I don't return a customers call same day, I will lose their business forever! I finally got through and was told to bring the board back to be checked out. My Wife and I are self employed and time is very valuable, so we just took care of it ourselves. read more

Just yesterday my friend and I came here to rent SUP for a few hours. There was no parking at first but the owner promptly and kindly moved his car and we parked right in front. Neither one of us had any knowledge about stand up paddle boarding and we both had lots of questions. Mike, who was helping us, did a great job at patiently choosing the boards for us, explaining his recommendations, and inspecting the boards. All the accessories, including straps and foam blocks to attach boards to the car, were provided at no extra charge and in about 45-60 min all our questions were answered and we were good to go. Large South swell at Ala Moana made it so much more fun to balance on the boards. We had the best time! Board return was also easy. Now I am considering to buy a SUP. At this store I can rent as many boards as I want until I find the right fit and they will apply all the rental credit towards the purchase. Great experience. read more

Customer service? Apparently it is not the store's strong suit. I am not sure whether they do not care about repeat business, satisfied customers or that they just don't need either. We went specifically to Blue planet in search of a quality SUP board on another's recommendation. We were looking for quality and a store that would stand behind their product. Of course when we were purchasing the SUP board, we were told all the right things: they stand behind their work, bring it back if there are any problems and they would gladly fix it under warranty - etc. we used the board only a few careful times - and then we saw a slight crack in the seam. When we took it into the store- still within the same purchase year - they told us that it was Not a defect covered under warranty. That something or someone must have fallen on it?! Neither of which happened. However - they wouldn't budge. Nevertheless- the "repair" cost only $25. (The crack is still there). Yes we had to pay the $25 - however- how difficult is it for the store, to accept responsibility and pay the nominal fee themselves to not only do the right thing, but also to ensure satisfied customers, further recommendations, and repeat business? They chose another route. As a result we will take our business to another shop - and recommend to all of our other friends who are in the market for similar items to do the same. read more

In Honolulu for work and had an off day. With time to kill I decided to look up the nearest Paddle board shop as my son has expressed great interest in one as a result of his experience during a Boy Scout camp. Blue Planet popped to the top of the list and it was close to my hotel. Upon entering the shop I was greeted by John. I told him about my son and his desire to get one. I was just trying to get educated myself about these and had no intentions of purchasing one that day. John proceeded to make a few recommendations based on what we would use it for and answered all my questions. He mentioned that they did have a rental program and lessons. I eventually signed up for a lesson the following day with Moria. Upon my booking I received an email from her shortly confirming the time and meeting place. The following morning I met her down at the beach with two of the boards that John had recommended the day before. After a short discussion about SUPs we were on the water. Needless to say she proceeded to show me the basics of paddling in a clear and concise manner. Her enthusiasm for the sport was evident in her instruction to me and the cost of the lesson was well worth it for me. After our lesson I went back to the shop to look around again and was greeted by another salesman whose name I did not get. Like John the previous day he was courteous and receptive to any questions I had. I would like to express my thanks to John, Moria, and that "other guy" for the great experience. Although my son and I are still in the process of looking at boards, when we do come to the time when we want to buy one Blue Planet will definitely be high in our list! read more

I went to Oahu to visit my brother and take SUP lessons. I was lucky enough to book my lessons with Robert Stehlik and Blue Planet Fitness. I knew I wanted to train with Robert after watching all his great SUP videos on YouTube. First, my brother and I rented a down winder board from the shop. The entire staff was friendly, professional and very helpful. The boards were in great shape and the pricing fair. My brother and I did a down winder on our own and the following day I took my first lesson with Robert. Robert did a great analysis of my stroke and gave me pointers for improvement. We went out into some small surf and I did some wave riding on the 14 foot SUP board. It was Sweet!!!. The following day, we did a down winder. Robert was next to me the entire time giving me instructions and I was catching bumps. It was so much fun. I felt challenged with Robert, but also completely safe. He is a great teacher and so knowledgeable about the water. He has such a good personality and is genuine with a calm manner. I learned so much out there. It was really the BEST PART of my vacation. I cannot wait to go back and train with Robert again. I ended up loving his 14 foot Bump Rider and purchased one. It will be great for down winders here on Long Island, NY. I am home now and applying what I learned from Robert. I am catching more bumps and having great fun. Thanks so much Blue Planet!!!! read more

Just purchased a Nalu model SUP from Blue Planet Surf! LOVE the customer service here!!! MIKE and RON are AWESOME!! I previously had a bad experience with another SUP board company in which customer service was obviously NOT a priority...quite the opposite at BLUE PLANET SURF!! I had to have visited the Blue Planet Surf Shop at least 8 times during the past 5 months and these guys were SUPER KNOWLEDGEABLE about their boards and SUPER PATIENT with me while I decided which board would be best for me. It was obvious that they truly wanted me to be happy with the decision I would ultimately make. I did a 1-month rental and participated in an SUP clinic (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) where you can sample all their boards...both of which included fabulous customer service. Even though I am done purchasing my board, I will never forget these guys and how much they helped me....and will probably stop by now and then to drop off Malasadas to them. These boys work so hard!
