I had a lot going on one day with multiple appointments and places to visit in the afternoon. We were driving down Whitesburg and I turned in to check out Bubby's Diner again. It was 0930. Inside there were a dozen seniors enjoying breakfast. One of the ladies told us to take a seat anywhere and she would bring us menus after she dropped off 3 plates of food. The plates looked good. I ordered a 3 egg ham and cheese western omelet that a biscuit, gravy, and grits. Dave likes hash browns so I got an order of the browns for him. The omelet was good. The biscuit and gravy were better. I read an article somewhere. I don't remember where about the best biscuits and gravy in the state of Alabama. Bubby's diner was second place. I see why they were ranked high!!! 5/5 I heard a man in the diner talking up his patty melt. He told his companion she did not know what she was missing. I was at the counter so I did not turn around to search for the man. A patty melt sounded good to me so I ordered one. The patty melt was placed on top of thick marbled rye bread. The actual patties inside were cooked well, moist, and flavorful. I enjoyed the panty melt! Dave said too much rye bread took away from the taste of the patties.. i think if the patties were served on thinner bread or sourdough, the patty melt would earn that extra star. 4/5 I did order a side of fried green tomatoes. Amazing deal for country food better than Cracker Barrel--made from scratch in house. It's a hidden gem in South Huntsville, easily worth the drive. It's a classic country diner, typically crowded but with friendly service. Great 1950s pictures everywhere. Showed Family Feud with Steve Harvey on TV. They celebrate the Military and veterans and give a discount. I got meatloaf, green beans, hash brown casserole and cornbread, with blueberry cobbler for dessert. Was in the neighborhood to buy some plants on a Saturday morning and was starving for some hot breakfast. This place was right around the corner. It is a typical old fashioned diner. I ordered ham and sausage with scrambled eggs and corned beef. They came with grits and gravy on the side. The scrambled eggs itself was satisfying for breakfast. I am trying to do one meal a day, so I had the corned beef too. They both were delicious and very filling. The waitress was very chatty and friendly. Reasonable prices. read more

I visited here last Tuesday with my parents for our weekly lunch together. We'd never been before but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The building is easy to find in south Huntsville, just look for the bright blue colors! It's near Rooster's Crow Coffee. They do have a drive through available, which is a nice feature, but we ate together inside. They were doing a pretty good lunch business but we were seated quickly and all our needs were met in a timely manner. The inside keeps up the blue theme but has lots of fun old timey diner / ice cream shop decor. Our waitress was stellar - can't remember her name but she chatted with us a bit about how she loved waitressing so much she left a massage therapist job for it. Her passion and skill showed! She took absolutely fantastic care of us; bonus points because we were being super annoying and indecisive because everything looked amazing on the menu lol. Sadly they were out of a few things we hoped to try (no malt for a chocolate malt, and there was something else too but now I've forgotten it), but overall we were each of us happy with what we got. My mom and I both got the pimento cheese burger while my dad got the Reuben per the recommendation of our waitress. Parents split fries and I had tater tots as our sides, and we took home a piece of strawberry pretzel salad. The pimento cheese burger was hand-pattied and very thick and juicy. The bun was large but managed to hold up to both the burger itself and the gooey pimento cheese. I do wish there'd been a bit more heat/kick to the pimento cheese, but it was yummy and plenty to eat for the price. I actually liked the fries better than the tater tots, but both were good. My dad particularly enjoyed the Reuben. Later, my mom and I split the strawberry pretzel salad. It was delicious (what SPS isn't??), though we did wish the pretzel crust had been more coherent (as opposed to just snapped pretzel sticks kind of thinly held together), and a few pretzels were a tiny bit stale. Overall though, mostly very small complaints. We look forward to returning again in the future for lunch, as well as trying them for breakfast. The server was very nice and helpful. She mentioned the top selling burgers, sandwiches, and meat-and-three options. My mom picked the meatloaf, mashed potatoes/gravy, fried okra, sweet cornbread, and corn nuggets. The potatoes were thick and didn't appear instant. She loved them. She was a little turned off with the hunky onions in the meatloaf, but I warned her they'd probably be in there. She still enjoyed it after picking them out. Was a little snafu with a bread tie in the gravy. That was disappointing but the server handled. But I heard her say this has happened more than a couple times. Got a fresh side of them to go with leftovers. I got the bacon jam burger and I'd definitely get it again. It was delicious. It is also pretty big. So come with an appetite. Went there tonight with family and dinner was awful.The hamburger steak was tough as shoe leather and the gravy was very bland and tasteless.My sons hamburger fell apart and was soggy,my daughter's hamburger steak was also tough and her strawberry salad was tasteless and the cake underneath was stale.My wife's fish was so earthy she couldn't eat it all. Sure, it's not the flashiest design with major corporate fit and finish, but this is a hometown classic that you immediately feel like family when entering this smallish 1950s style diner. The decor is Elvis, Marilyn, James Dean and all things automobiles. The main items on the menu are the classic Burgers , Footlong hot dogs , ice cream, Floats, milkshakes and all sorts of yummy sides. ( onion rings, fries , fried okra, fried corn nuggets, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, hash browns, etc) They have fun appetizer family baskets with your choose of Fried pickles, onion rings, chili cheese fries and fried green tomatoes. There's also meat and 3 classics like meatloaf, catfish, country fried steak and ham. My favorite are the classic and inspired burger combinations. The Kimmy's Bacon Jam Cheeseburger is definitely a fan favorite with lots of flavor. The best parts of the burger are the fresh meat flavor and the out-of-this-world fresh yeast roll buns . They also have their signature burger , "The Bubby" that is a bacon cheeseburger on a glazed donut . ( I prefer the yeast roll , also easier to eat) Gotta love it. All of the servers are very friendly, and good usually comes out pretty quick. Never been for breakfast, but looks like they serve until 11:00am, all the traditional American favorites- bacon, eggs, pancakes , French toast, biscuits and gravy. We have eaten at Bubby's Diner once before tonight and the service was okay. The food was excellent, but the service was slow. It took awhile for someone to take our order and a little while to get the food. We went there again tonight and sat down at a table. A lady brought us menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. We got our drinks a few minutes later and proceeded to sit there for 20 minutes with no one coming to take our order. The staff walked by us several times, checked on the table next to us to see if they needed anything and also took orders from people that went in after us. It was like we were invisible. We finally had enough, left money for our drinks and left. We went to Rosies, sat at a table, they took our order and we got our food in less than 20 minutes, the entire time that we sat at Bubby's with everyone ignoring us. I don't think we'll go back, which is ashame, because we liked their food the time we did get served. read more

Was staying in a VRBO just down the street from Bubby's Diner a few weeks ago for my niece's wedding in Huntsville. Needed something close and quick before the BF had to jump on a business call. SO glad we found it! Our server - I want to say Jesse? - was as friendly as can be. I had the Bubby Burger - glazed donut bun, w/ meat patty, bacon and American cheese. HOLY WOW. Not something you'd eat every day, but so yummy. BF had the pimento cheeseburger and liked it, but said it needed a little more seasoning.
