I want to give a HUGE shout-out and special thank-you to Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates for their AMAZING treatment and service the other night. I am a disabled veteran and I accidentally cut my 12-year-old service dog's nail too short, reaching the quick, causing it to bleed. After trying some home remedies, I was unable to stop the bleeding, and knowing the reputation of BRVA, I knew where I needed to go. They have taken care of my other dog in the past and I could not have been more pleased with the previous treatment. I arrived at their Emergency clinic at about 9pm, and was immediately seen by LVT Deb and Hillary Haag, both of which were fantastic and helped put my nerves at ease as I was freaking out about my service dog, as I carried her in with a bloody foot. We were then seen by Dr. Estella Jones, who was a Godsend, and answered all of my questions about this matter and future mitigation. Lastly, as we checked out from our white-glove 5-star service, Kayla-CSR, was the icing on the cake. The entire team were my prayers, answered. I know that my service dog and SDIT will always receive expert-level care in the event of any unforeseen events with the two dogs. You can trust them and they are there for you. I wish that I had read the reviews before taking my dog to this place. I am hoping they will remedy the situation but as of now I am still waiting on a response. TLDR: 1) Absolutely HORRIBLE communication, which will cause us nearly $3000 collectively in vet bills AND my dog is suffering because of it. I brought my dog in on June 9 for a tummy ache, but I also brought up her severe ear itching and head shaking. The vet told me I would need to do a full allergy panel, which I said I did not have money for that day but would like to have her ears swabbed just to be safe. They swabbed them, sent us home, and told me that they would call me back with the results. They did not call. I called 3 times, and I was told every time they would call me back. The forth time, I told them I would not hang up until they gave me an answer to what they found under the microscope. Then I got info that conflicted with what I was told on the phone when I brought my dog in for a follow-up. During that time, my poor dog developed a hematoma from shaking her head so badly. When I brought her in, I was told she had an ear infection. The vet found this out by...wait for it...swabbing her ears. Oh, and the second vet told us that we could just give her zyrtec for her allergies -- bypassing the need for an expensive panel. It made the first appointment seem like a complete money grab. We walked out with a bill for lancing her ears ($400). When it inevitably came back, we were told our options were a SEVENTEEN HUNDRED DOLLAR SURGERY to rectify the hematoma, which literally could have been avoided if we received proper care -- literally a call back -- from the first appointment. I am still waiting on a call from management to see how they plan to fix this ridiculous problem. If we decide to go through with the surgery, we will have spent nearly $4000 dollars in the first 3 months of owning our pet at their institution when it could have been solved in our first $300 appointment by them giving us a callback. My confidence in this practice was completely lost from the above described interaction, which to me suggests poor judgement in hiring and/or inadequate training of office staff responsible for interacting with the public.The above cited staff additionally expelled my pet from follow-up carearrigating to herself the ethical breach of patient abandonment. Our baby boy "Tank" had cherry eye in both his eyes. At 4 months he has his first surgery performed and it didn't even last a day before the cherry eye returned. A friend of ours had highly recommended Dr. Jacobs at Blue Ridge. We called to make an appointment and assumed it would be at least a month out (like everywhere else) and to our surprise we were seen within a week. Dr. Jacobs and staff made us feel welcome from the moment we pulled up on the parking lot. She then explained she could take care of Tanks cherry eye THAT DAY. It was literally fractions of the cost we had been quoted elsewhere. We were able to pick our baby boy up later that afternoon. Surgery was a huge success. If i could give them zero stars, I would. I adopted a small dog through Rescue Me West Virginia, which collaborates with this veterinary clinic for services such as blood work and dental care. During my initial fostering program, I took him to the clinic for dental work and was very impressed with the quality of care provided. I was informed by Rescue Me West Virginia that all necessary procedures, including blood work, had been completed prior to my adoption. I attempted to order Trifexis for my now adopted dog through a retailer linked to their website, as the clinic is not conveniently located for me. However, my request was denied by the clinic. The reason given was that since my dog was adopted through Rescue Me West Virginia, I had not formally registered him as a patient. I find this puzzling; I had taken him to the clinic for dental work as a Rescue Me West Virginia pet, and I am now confused about the practices. It is almost like HIPPA laws are in place. This experience raises concerns about the clinic's priorities. It appears their focus is more on financial gain than on the well-being of the animals in their care. The clinic is requesting that I spend additional time and resources to establish my dog as a new patient, despite his having been seen there within the last six months. Had it been a year since his last visit, that would be understandable. After reading other reviews, I can see that my experience is not unique. I feel compelled to share this information with others, as it may deter potential adopters from choosing Rescue Me West Virginia or the utilizationof this clinic.. If this were the first time I'd experienced an issue like this, it wouldn't be a problem. But this is par for the course at this vet. I urge you to read this review in full before making the decision to send your pet here. If you're unable to read the review in full, here is a short version of our experience: 1. Incredibly expensive: We were immediately charged $400 ($310 for emergency services + $90 for a walk in). 2. No urgency: There was zero sense of urgency in providing care, diagnosis and results for our pet 3. No care: It was made clear that at no point was our boy seen as a priority regardless of his rapidly declining health 4. No communication: We were the ones calling for regular follow ups on tests, diagnosis and results. They spoke in circles and no one was on the same page My cat over the recent weeks has been experiencing aggression towards one of our other cats after living peacefully together for more than 5 years. In addition, this past Monday, we noticed changed bathroom behaviors such as accidents outside the litter box, crying when in the litter box, frequent litter box usage, straining and a small red glob from his urethra after attempting to go to the bathroom. We immediately called our normal vet who unfortunately was going to close in 10 minutes but urged us to take him to an emergency vet as this could absolutely not wait until morning. We were told this is normal for male cats but that if his bladder is blocked, it could explode. She gave us numbers to other emergency vets around but they were either too far away (1+ hour drive one way) or had horrendous reviews. That's how we found Blue Ridge. They're within a 30 minute drive with many positive reviews about the quality and care of their patients. Upon walking in, we were immediately told it was $310 dollars for the emergency vet + $90 for not having an appointment. At that point, we were terrified for our boy, felt there were no other real options and agreed to pay that cost for him to be seen immediately. We were told it's possible he has cystitis but without a urine sample they wouldn't be able to give a diagnosis. $400 with no answers was a pretty hard hit to take; however, we were very willing to take him home, isolate him and get him to use am empty litter box to collect the sample ourselves. It took 3 days to collect this sample. He was in an incredible amount of pain (whining/crying when trying to use the bathroom) and stressed. No one called us to ask for a follow up on the urine sample nor to check on our boy. I ended up calling on day 2 about him not going in the litter box and asked for next steps since he was getting increasingly worse. We were told they'd put a note in our file. The next morning, someone texted me saying to bring him in for an overnight stay. We are so fortunate that by this time, we were able to collect the sample because I cannot even imagine what they charge for an overnight stay when we paid $400 just for walking through the doors. I dropped the sample off Thursday morning at 8:45 AM and was told it would take another 3-4 days to get any results back. I stated our cat possibly couldn't wait that long as his behavior and overall well-being were in question and worsening. That was when an in-house diagnosis option was given to me. I'm not sure why this wasn't presented alongside the other option but I digress. I was told a doctor was in, but they were currently in a room with another patient and had a few other appointments later today but to call back for a follow up that night. Great! I assumed we would have results that evening and would be able to get him started on his meds. This was not the case. Thursday night, my husband called for a follow up. After explaining the situation, he was told in a snarky tone, "well I'm not sure who told you that because we send out our samples." He then relayed again we opted for in-house for a quicker diagnosis. We were then told the doctor is not in until Monday. He again relayed that we were told another doctor was in who could read the diagnosis but apparently there wasn't anyone in the building who could interpret the diagnosis so we did not receive results that night. Friday afternoon, I called for a follow up. I was told the "results are in but the doctor won't be in until Monday to read the diagnosis". Someone should have immediately reached out to me to inform me of the situation rather than having us sit around in a ball of anxiety and stress over our cat. I reiterated the importance of not being able to wait and was told another doctor is in today who can read it and to call back later for a follow up. My husband called back that night and and he was told the doctor wasn't there until Monday. After being persistent, he was told that a tech was there who could read it and that she'll leave a note saying it's urgent. He commented "I'm actually concerned about the lack of urgency" and then proceeded to be hung up on. My husband called back but was put on hold for 15 minutes and was told they "got disconnected". Ever since this vet went corporate, the service, compassion, and care have plummeted. Additionally, the prices have skyrocketed. The vets used to have significant longevity and would know us by face and name, as well as all our dogs (we have many). After more than 12 years of giving them our business, including tens of thousands of dollars, we are DONE. Just recently during an emergency visit, they scammed us into doing blood work for a procedure that we were only requesting a quote for (the surgery was not related to the emergency). They charged us $695 for BLOOD WORK. Without informing us of the exorbitant cost up front. I looked up previous records where our dogs required blood work prior to surgery, and less than a year ago, it was $225 for the exact same blood work. It appears to this former client that Blue Ridge no longer cares about their customers or their patients. Now, their sole purpose appears to be upselling services that are not requested, nor needed. Shame on this group for selling out. You used to be the gold standard of veterinarians, now you're at the bottom of the pile. read more

After spending $150 on a basic check of a skin issue, they couldn't even call in basic flea and tick medication to a pharmacy for my dog. I spent 4 weeks, hours of my time, and rehashing the same story several times only to be told something different each time. Finally they say to get a test 3 months earlier than needed just to get the script. They would give me the medication in office, but as soon as I request it to be sent somewhere else, there were all kinds of problems. I don't have time or money for this inadequate type of service. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. Zero stars if I could. Brought in my 5 yr old cat in as an emergency at 8pm one night. The receptionist could not find prior record of my cat and had to create him a new patient--weird. Vet did not ask for consent for many things they were going to do to diagnose what was wrong with my cat. Claiming surgery needed to be done for an outrageous price and also informed that he will likely have the same problem again and die. The vet was the coldest vet health professional I've ever encountered. As a healthcare professional myself- THERE IS NO COMPASSION HERE. The vet threatened me if I did not choose a decision right away to do the surgery and will put my cat down if I can't decide and report us for not being able to decide, which is literally so insane if you are trying to process everything. They were so pushy to get me out of there, they kept asking how long do they need to wait for my family to get here. I had to bring the rest of the family there to say their goodbyes to our own furry family member, while they just coldly place him in a cardboard box and still made us pay to euthanize him. They were the worst and heartless staff I've ever encountered. We are 4 people living in our house and we have 4 animals( 3 dogs and 1 cat).... 2 of the dogs are senior dogs( age 12 and 13) and recently needed blood tests, x-rays, biopsies, ultrasounds and other procedures.... We have always been upfront with the staff--whomever we were talking to--about our financial situation( school tuitions, and every month bills).... They were nice enough to set a payment plan, but told us at some point that some of the most recent procedures would not be added to our current payment plan.... that was after we brought our roommate's dog--that had blood work, x-rays, ultrasound done. If I were a millionnaire, I would not look at prices at all when it comes to the animals' health.... We have to be practical and discuss finances before each procedure.... When we discussed with the vet who took care of Alex, we informed her of the situation: even though we were the ones to bring him, he is officially not our dog.... We told the vet that we were currently under a payment plan, and that we would be appreciative if a similar plan could be made for our roommate as well.... The vet--my partner was also there that day--specifically said that she would make a note so that the amount would be added to our payment plan as her primary concern was the dog's current health needs. We thanked her and authorized the procedure. We are now a few weeks later, and we received a phone call from Mrs. Tomi Jean Waters, who now tells us that we need to pay Alex's bills upfront as these bills would not be added to our current payment plan. That is when I informed her of what had transpired with the vet to which she promptly cut me off and said :" the vet did not say that".... Mrs. Waters, you weren't there!( unless you were wearing a cloak of invisibility or something)....in your line of work where you deal daily with customers, insinuating that they are lying is not only unprofessional but also insulting.... Cold hearted, aggressive, profit mill run by an owner, managers, and staff that could care less about the people or the animals they purport to serve. The owner in particular ought to be called out for her profit mongering and indifference. Grossly unprofessional! All she is interested in is $$ for her $250k Mercedes camper she parks out front for weeks. I recently spent over $2100 in 2 weeks on surgery for my chihuahua for a lipoma, then tests and ultrasound for my dying Labrador [15 yrs old]. The vets were competent and professional but not the staff or vet techs. TERRIBLE, Just yesterday my chihuahua came down with eye infection and despite having spent thousands and many hours waiting there, they refused to provide any care without charging me an "emergency visit" fee of $250 or making her wait until 3 days later, pay them $50 for her to wait all day in a cage "drop off fee". They could have cared less that this is a serious condition that could lead to blindness or death if left untreated. Unless you are a cold hearted abusive person, then this place is to be avoided at all costs given how they treat customers. While it is a given that in today's world of veterinary care in Loudoun County and vet techs, admin, etc. are typically hostile, rude, and fail to follow any standard of basic professional courtesy. I am currently in litigation with Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates of Purceville, VA. Minutes after receiving treatment for an ear infection and taking medication prescribed, my then 8 year old Great Dane was fighting for his life in full GDV. Despite the fact Blue Ridge was his vet and is an emergency facility, they refused to follow up treatment and recommended I get him to an emergency vet. I was lucky to get him to Mountainview Animal Hospital in time and he survived the ordeal. No blood work was done nor were side effects of the steroid prescribed discussed with me at any time. Blue Ridge Veterinary has refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing, never even phoned or checked to see how Fenway was doing or if he survived. Not once. I wish I could give less stars. First off before writing reviews I asked the center to have the manager call me when I picked up my sisters dogs ashes and no one even took the time to call her nor I. My sister was visiting and her dog had a sudden seizure, blue ridge vet was the nearest ER vet opened that weekend. The veterinarian was so cold and insensitive. After finding out the dog was diabetic and had diabetic DKA with a very bad prognosis, she asked the vet what he would do if it was his dog. Keep him for 48 hours and 3500 dollars or let him go. He told her if he made it out of this he personally couldn't care for a dog with diabetes so he would just give him to someone else. Not even sure how that applied but luckily she was texting with her home vet. She decided to see him and decide then. Vet said he'd send a tech to bring her back. Over an hour later no one had came. I inquired they had an emergency but no one informed her. When she did go back it was obvious to her it was time to let him go. He was back in the main area with all the kennels and vets and vet techs walking in and out. When she decided one of the techs asked if she just wanted to do it right there. What in the world? No she'd like a room and some privacy to say goodbye. They brought us to a room at our request and gave us an emergency call button. They have him the sedation medicine and said they'd be back and to press the button if we needed anything. No one came back......we didn't know if we were supposed to call them back to do the second part or what but it became torturous to sit there for that long with the sedated dog knowing what would come next. I rung the call button heard it ringing outside and no one came. We could hear receptionists chatting, someone discussing their dog eating a cork, but no one came. I decided to ring it again 10 minutes later and tell the receptionist who got someone. The vet came in without an apology or anything did the next part of euthanasia, listened to him and said "he's gone" in a flat tone. He left us to have a moment but again no one came back. The dog was going cold and she began to get extremely upset so with no response from the call button again i asked the receptionist if someone could come in with us and the deceased dog so we knew what to do next. A $1300 bill for a horrific experience. The fact no one even took the time to get our feedback or call us back showed the lack of empathy and professionalism. They are doing a lot of different kind of services - so when you call trying to making appointment, you need to follow so many steps to actually get down to the appointment taker/person. 2. From their website, you see they have so many vets/doctors and you would be surprised that you would not be able to fit you in within 2 days. And they would suggest you go to their emergency department which costs extra $175 for a doctor visit. 3. I had a decent experience here recently with my guinea pig. A more general vet had repeatedly told me that she was exhibiting "normal scratching behaviors" and I was not convinced that her behavior was normal (I've had several guinea pigs over the years). BRVA diagnosed an arrhythmia and a neurological problem--not good news by any means, but getting an answer and an explanation was so appreciated. read more

Called them and other vet practices about a possible timely surgery for my dog. Was told I first needed to create an account online and then call back. (Other vet practices did this for me on the phone.) Called back about the broken site and was told I could actually email the needed info instead of using their site, and they'd get in touch. Didn't get any type of response confirming they got my dog's info from my email. (All other vets emailed or called me within a couple of hours of getting the info.) I emailed them again, and they finally responded and said they'd be back in touch asap. No response for another day so I call. Sit on hold for 10 minutes after being told 'just a moment' so then I hung up. Hopefully their surgeons are more skilled than the people who answer phones and talk to patients but I'm not going to chance that, even if it mean waiting a bit longer for the surgery. So first off, long story short, my 10 month old rescue got tested for heart worm and the test came up positive. Vet wanted to have a blood test done and sent to a lab to confirm heart worm test. First blood test came back negative 3-4 days later. Vet wanted to have another blood test done just to be 100%. Did not hear anything back from the vet for 2 weeks! I then decided to call in to get my dogs results. Second blood test came back positive! Why wouldn't you contact the owner about this?!?!? I find this to be very unprofessional especially when it comes to something as serious as heart worm. Second, when she was in the vet initially I wanted her to look at my dogs teeth because she has been grinding her teeth. She didn't see anything wrong with my dogs teeth. The vet then notified me that most of the time, dogs grind their teeth due to excess stomach acid, if, there are no problems with their teeth and advised me to buy some famotidine (Pepcid) to see if that will help. I found some famotidine chicken flavored droplets on chewy.com that I tried to buy but chewy declined my purchase because Blue Ridge Veterinary declined the prescription and asked me why I would need it........POOR communication in my perspective. I like the care I receive at Blue Ridge, however, they're prices for medications are more than 2x what you can get for retail online or at a pharmacy. I was asked by the receptionist if my medication was life long, and if so I could order it somewhere else (even she was embarrassed). Let's hope it's not because if it were and BRVA were my only option, at $77 for 10 pills I would not be able to afford it and would have to put my dog down. The fact that my dog needed medication immediately to deal with acute pain is the only reason I paid their ridiculous prices, but they should be ashamed for taking advantage of such a situation. read more

Poor excuse of an emergency vet! Our vet called there at 12:00 on Friday to have an ultrasound done! They said they could do it. They got there an hour later. As of now no ultrasound. Went to get the dog and 2 vets on duty but no one would talk to them. I would recommend no one take their dog there! Unforgivable!! read more

I can't believe I'm seeing so many negative reviews! I've been bringing my dogs here for years and have had nothing but great experiences. One of my dogs was attacked by 2 bigger dogs and they saved her life! They called me and updated me and were amazing. Years later when we had to put that same dog down due to cancer, they were so awesome about everything. They let me hold her while they gave her the injections and allowed us to stay with her as long as we wanted. They've been great with my other dog as well. We just got a new puppy and took her for her first time. The dr we saw that time was a little "different" telling us dog foods cause cancer and telling us not to use flea and tick treatments. Just a little odd... but I think it's good to have a variety of drs and they do! My only real complaint is that they are EXPENSIVE! I wish they'd lower their prices a bit. Also- help front desk know for sure what people are there for. After I walked out of the room from having my dog put down, the girl at the desk was ready to take my money and cheerfully asked how I was. When I told her not good bc we put our dog down, she felt bad. They just need to be better informed. But overall we love it there! read more

My 10 month old kitten went in for a spay, and died 3 days later. They wanted over $2400 to run all sorts of tests, saying that she probably wasn't going to make it regardless. She showed all the signs of septic shock, but they claim that her heart just couldn't handle the spay. The "billing" manager told me that because we used a spay today voucher, that they do things differently and was extremely cold hearted and rude. The actual vet was compassionate, but still left us with no choice but to say goodbye to my son's first cat. read more

Showed but after hours with one of ours dogs in distress and needed to be euthanize. Blue ridge did not have a doctor at the facility so we had to drive 45 minutes to a vet that did have one in. Would highly recommend taking off their 24/7 status if they can't staff the personal. read more

WOW!! If you're thinking of taking your animal to this veterinarian, think twice! And if you're thinking about getting an echocardiogram here, don't put yourself through the agony of the complete chaos of their unorganized ability to schedule an appointment. I had an 8 AM appointment for an echocardiogram with my cat. I brought him in at 7:50 AM, and they told me that they would need to keep him all day. I never heard of such such a thing. why make a timed appointment with me if that's the case. They kept him for 3 1/2 hours and then called me and said the echocardiologist never showed up. It appears they have no communication with their echo cardiologist. If she was sick, or running late, perhaps you might call the client and give them the option to reschedule or cancel entirely. But nope, you couldn't be bothered. You let my fasting little cat sit back there getting fleas and traumatized. FOR THREE HOURS! Also I've noticed theres no feeling of animal kindness here. Just a 'give us all your money' vibe. It's Subpar treatment from top to bottom. Not a bit of professionalism, with no accountability and more importantly, no concept of actually laying out appointments for this kind of thing. You've lost a client with your epic display of stupidity and inability to act responsible for services you claim to provide. When looking for a vet cross this one of the list immediately! read more

My experience with Blue Ridge was perfect. Had my bunny, Yinyin, my first-ever pet, neutered here and it went exactly how it should have. Tarah was very kind to my family and Yin and answered all questions we had. I feel like they loved and cared for my pet almost as much as I do. After many upsetting visits to other vets that made me feel so horrible when I left them, Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates opened my eyes again to what a veterinarian should be like. They treat me and my dog like family. They take the time to examine and diagnose any issues. Their prices are very fair and they are a 24 hour emergency care place as well which is comforting. Dr. Behm was ably to diagnose and fix a problem we have been having for awhile that wouldn't go away. Now it is fully managed with medication. The only downside to BRVA is that sometimes when it comes to refilling or sending i. A prescription, I have to call back regularly to get it squared away. The doctor heard my concerns and increased my prescription so I only had to call once a year! I truly feel heard and my dog taken care of here. However, my appt was with Dr. Gregiore. When I asked at the desk, they said the MD's must have changed shifts. Ok, I understand that happens but I made an appt with a specific vet for a reason.
