Here are some initial results from the great bagel search of Southern Idaho. The same Lox and bagel sandwich with two extra bagels that Freedom Bagel Bakery charged $17.46 was $12.43 at Blue Sky Bagels. Same stuff at both locations, onion bagel, lox, tomato, thin sliced red onion, cream cheese and capers. This sandwich did not have the huge saltiness of Freedom Bagel bakery. The difference of nearly $5 could be used to buy almost a dozen of "day old" bagels at Blue Sky. I liked the way Blue Sky Bagel sells their bagels the next day when they make too many. This is a very common practice with bagel shops across America. One has to wonder why Freedom Bagel Bakery didn't have some bags of "day old" bagels for sale during my visit. Could Freedom actually know exactly how many bagels to make? Because if they do, thousands of bagel shops across this country would love to know the secret. Hey, who can't eat a reheated, day old bagel? The cost is better and the taste is better than supermarket bagels, even the ones made in the market's bakery, like Albertson's. America, give up your supermarket bagels and shop your local bagel maker. read more

I went there for lunch today and got a ham and cheese bagel sandwich. When I opened it up I saw that they had put rotten lettuce on my sandwich. Black, slimy, rotten lettuce. I don't know why restaurants insist on putting slimy lettuce on people's stuff but it's gross. The avocado spread they put on my sandwich leaked out of the hole and got all over my sandwich on both halves so it was a soggy mess and hard to eat. I literally had to wipe the avocado spread off the bagel with a napkin just so I could hold it in my hands. Ick. Won't be going back. read more

I wish I had something positive to say about this location, especially because our regular downtown and state street locations are wonderful. Ordered breakfast via DoorDash from this Blue Sky, and left specific notes on our order, most of which were ignored. Our bagels had little or no cream cheese on them, and they were dry and incredibly lackluster. To make matters worse I called this location to inform the manager, Dani, of the issue and she took a tone with me and spun the conversation around as if I was in the wrong. I order from the downtown Blue Sky every week, and any concerns I've had with them were resolved with kindness and regard. Dani at the Chinden Blue Sky didn't care to convey the same and instead made me out to be the bad guy. I have been eating at blue sky for over a decade now, and it is easily the best bagel place around. I pretty much always order a bacon, egg, & cheese on an everything bagel, and it's always good. They also sell cream cheese by 8oz containers, which is a great option when purchasing a lot of bagels. They are very consistent and have yet to disappoint! read more

The Fairview location seems disorganized. It takes a very long time to place your order and then you have to place it again at the cash register (seems backwards). Once my order went in I got it very quickly, but that is probably because they gave me the wrong order. I didn't notice until I got home so I didn't go back. UPDATE: 5/21/19 Getting better!!! Switched locations and went to the Chinden shop. Wayyyyyyyy better. 4.5 on my scale. The staff are SO much more friendly and professional. Food quality is consistent. Coffee, even decaf, is great!!!! They have the right formula here. Only downside is the ambiance. Music is fine but decor needs attention. Too cafeteria-like. When my husband and I are looking for a fast and easy (and delicious) breakfast or lunch, Blue Sky is our spot. We have NEVER had a bad experience and the quality and service is top notch. They often have seasonal cream cheeses which is a nice way to switch it up! Food: I love how they have TONS of different bagels, toppings (cream cheese, meats, veggies, nut butters, etc), soups, salads, parfaits, and even treats! They make sure to serve up anything for a picky eater. My husband's favorite is the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a Parmesan bagel. I love the cinnamon & sugar bagel with honey walnut cream cheese. YUM. Their soups are also very good! Drinks: They have serve pop but also make coffee & espresso drinks. I love that! Atmosphere: It smells SO GOOD in there! It's your typical bagel shop with a lunch-line style for ordering and simple tables to sit at. Sometimes the tables and floors are a little dirty, but they're so busy that they just don't have a chance to clean them off between each customer. This is one of my favorite places to go, but lately, service has been less than great. My items always have things missing or made incorrectly (like cream cheese and veggies missing from my sandwich or meat being heated up when I asked for a cold sandwich), and it's a bummer. Especially when you have to go back to the store from home because it is made wrong. The people behind the counter are always busy talking to each other, and one of the girls likes to get snippy when you try to correct her on something. We are soooo done with Blue Sky Bagel, this Saturday we went in and ordered 1 dozen bagels to go. We got to the register and they charged us for 3 dozen, mind you we hadn't even touched the bag of bagels sitting on the counter next to the staff member that put the bagels in the bag and set it on the counter !!!! when we told them no it's supposed to be 1 dozen, They argued with my husband that it was 3 dozen he said he only ordered 1 dozen and watched the girl put the choices he asked for in the bag to equal 1 dozen, so she said she would charge us for 2 dozen and we are like NO!!! OMFG I was so done she kept arguing with my husband till finally gave him back cash instead of a return on the card she charged!!!!Never again we are so done. Okay, let's start with this. I LOVE BAGELS!!!! When I moved to the Treasure Valley I was worried because I need a quality bagel from time to time. Then I found this gem. Let me start by saying the people working here are FANTASTIC. Friendly and attentive and what more do you really need? The bagels are delicious and the cream cheese flavors are unique and YUMMY. This is my bagel place for sure. They also have buy one get one free on a regular basis which is great. Essentially a dozen for the price of a half dozen. Better than Sunshine Bagels, for sure, but that's not saying much. There seems to be something about this space that just makes for mediocre restaurants--every deli/sandwich shop/bakery that's taken residence here has been meh. Now that it's a Blue Sky I had high hopes for better quality, but it's not as good as the other two Blue Sky locations. The bagels were okay, but seemed a little more dense and less chewy than I am used to. I ordered a mixed bagels and cream cheese. They offer a good variety with all sorts of savory like asiago, parmesan, onion, sunflower, poppy seed, sesame seed, garlic, and everything. For sweet they had chocolate chip, blueberry, cranberry orange, cinnamon raisin, and cinnamon sugar as well as plain old plain. I really love the parmesan and cinnamon sugar the best. I notice the sweet bagels tend to be tougher than the savory ones, perhaps because of the increased sugar in the dough? I don't know, but I don't tend to buy them as a result. The bagels I got were good, and I could tell they'd been baked that morning, but perhaps because they sell fewer than the other stores, I could tell they had been sitting out all day and didn't rotate as quickly as might keep them fresh and snappy. The building itself isn't very nice. I sat in a side room with cords out on the floor, torn carpet, and dinged paint on the walls. It felt very much like a work in progress, and not somewhere i wanted to be. Chairs and tables were flimsy, wobbly, and not very comfortable. There were dirty tables that were never bussed, crumbs on the floor, and leftover food debris accumulated on chairs and a counter that staff never attempted to clean. In fact, the staff never made rounds around the dining room, despite the fact it was pretty filthy. The restaurant wasn't busy, so they were in the back talking rather than attending to details. I've worked in food service so I don't expect perfection, but there was no attempt here. I had coffee, of which they brew Dawson Taylor. I was disappointed that it was lukewarm (at 2:00 pm) and probably what they had brewed when they opened. They also didn't have fresh half and half out, and I got an eye roll when I asked for more when I got a refill. I hate feeling like I'm inconveniencing staff, but I don't think it's unreasonable to get a second cup of coffee and want it with cream. I'm so sad that this isn't up to the other Blue Sky standards. I hope it improves, rather than dragging down the Blue Sky name. It would be so nice to have tasty bagels in a fresh, clean space with a warm staff on this little corner of Chinden. I have my fingers crossed. read more

Outlet No. 3 for BS. This used to be Sunshine Bagels until last September (2014). In my previous review of Sunshine, I said they sucked and were way down from BS. Well, it proved to be right, since they didn't move as the old Yelp Site says, they went belly-up. Went there today to see if they were the same as the Meridian at Fairview store. The answer is Yes. Same great bagels, same Dawson Taylor coffee, same cordial help. We were glad to see the number of customers was good on a Saturday morning. The cream cheese smears are many, but are applied too heavily for my likes. Ask for the smear on the side and apply to your own taste and thickness. They also make sandwiches from the bagels. This a good place for a quick breakfast or lunch and bagels are stout and large enough to share for 2 light eaters; same for sandwiches. They also have my favorite bargain, the bags of day old bagels for $2.00 a bag. If I am going to freeze bagels for home use, this is a perfect option. Access is good as they have a lot for the strip mall. Handicap parking is close by and the floor is all one level. Seating is spacious and tables with standard chairs. They seem to wipe their tables more frequently than the Fairview store, good for them. If you have trouble locating them, look for Guido's Pizza. read more

.I learned to love fresh bagels while living in Queens NY. In my neighborhood, the bagel shop sent heavenly fresh bread aroma into the air every morning. Nobody who could smell that would ever say they would rather have a bag of frozen bagels. .I still cherish fresh bagels, and am suspicious of grocery store bagels. I will sometimes go out of my way to get them from Blue Sky, especially the "everything" variety. Now of course they don't really have EVERYTHING on a single bagel. For example, these will not have asiago cheese, cinnamon, raisins, or cranberries. They do have what I would expect: poppy seeds, sesame seeds, onion, garlic, sea salt. In New York I have found them to include caraway seed, but that was absent here. .So what's with the "everything" moniker? Originally it was everything that fell off the other bagels during preparation. Rather than throw away the seeds that didn't stick, the bagel maker used them on a sort-of combo bagel. People love it. I can't say that Blue Sky uses this method, but the end result is just as good. .They do have at least 10 varieties of bagels, and ten varieties of cream cheese (including lox). You want a sandwich? They have assorted deli meats and cheese to put on a bagel. Open for breakfast - so try a bacon, egg, swiss cheese, on an onion bagel, toasted. Blue Sky is about as good as it gets. read more

I was with a group of 7 people with a couple of small children. We had been out in the cold rain for 1-1/2 hours watching a soccer match and really just wanted a sandwich and a few minutes to warm up. I had gotten my sandwich and sat down with one of the kids and started to eat my sandwich. When the rest of the adults had gotten their bagel sandwiches, one of the kids behind the counter asked us to leave as they were trying to close. So, we had gotten there early enough to order food but too late to sit and enjoy it. Please, all they needed to say was they were getting ready to close in 15 minutes and we would have left. I had to basically gather up what I had started to eat and move out to my car. This was very humiliating to say the least and I guess since these servers were all teenagers, we should not have expected more. Never will I visit this establishment again and if I were a parent of one of those on staff, I would have no problem explaining how disappointed I would have been in their action. read more

I work by the Blue Sky Bagels on Chidden. I ordered 15 breakfast sandwiches on Friday for the office a few weeks ago. This was the second time I ordered breakfast sandwiches there. I called around 8 AM, about an hour before the pick-up. When I picked them up, the girl said (without even saying hello), "we can't do this for you anymore on Friday!" Although I replied with a simple "okay," I was rather shocked by her rudeness. Maybe if I called a day before, it would've been better? I'm not sure. If someone was going to refuse my business because of the short notice or their lack of help, I guess I was expecting more of an apologetic response. Maybe..."I'm sorry. This is just too much work for us on a busy Friday" or something along that line? But she wasn't even giving me an option of calling in the order with a day notice and just straight out refused to do this anymore for us. I just felt like she didn't appreciate my business. I LOVE supporting local businesses. That is why I'm on Yelp giving feedback about them, often positive ones. I want good local businesses to flourish and continue! And I do hope that the Blue Sky Bagels flourishes as well. I just would like to see a better customer service if I go back again. read more

I went to Blue Sky today and after telling the gentleman what kind of bagels I wanted THREE times, he still got my order wrong; I ended up with bagels I did not order. Great stop for a quick breakfast. We stopped by on a Sunday morning before church, and had 2 bagels with cream cheese and 2 med. coffees (Dawson Taylor). Total bill under 8 bucks. Bagels are chewy and a normal size- not the XXL Costco size. I had cinnamon raisin with honey walnut cream cheese - excellent- big pieces of walnut. Also I appreciate that they don't slather on the cream cheese so thickly that you have to scrape half off before you can eat it. Friendly employees, and a sunny window to sit in.
