Tried Blue Square Pizza for the 4th and final time. The utter lack of concern they show their patrons is not acceptable and we won't be doing this again. Waits of 30 min 45 min and 75 min beyond the promised time shows no respect for their customers who are shelling out $30/pie. It's good stuff, not amazing and we won't be back. Here's their MO: place order online, state 20 for pickup, arrive on time and clerk says sorry it'll be ready in 5 min. The digital board says the pizza is ready. Clerk comes back after 10 min and says I'm sorry it'll be another 6 minutes and then another 5.... I urge everyone to boycott this establishment. read more

Went recently and tried three pizzas. New York style- Pizza. Other than all the Semolina that really isn't necessary this is one of the best New York pizzas in the state. Perfect crunch , a nice bold and mildly sweet sauce and a flavorful cheese. I could've eaten the entire large ! Detroit pizza. This was up there with Volo. The crunch was spectacular and the light airy bubbles made it easy to keep eating. This pizza was worth the 40 minute drive alone. Grandma Pie. Wasn't impressed at all. It was thin but chewy and not crunchy. The cheese ate like it had been sitting wich was odd because we are there and got each pie out of the oven. They are a tiny place with only 3 tables. We are in town for a few days and enjoyed Blue Square take out on Friday and plan on ordering for dinner this evening before heading home. Order and pick up was an easy process. The pie is delicious and the crust, in particular, puts their pixie in a category of its own. We enjoyed the traditional cheese, buretta and honey as well as the pesto pie. Good local pizza or if you're driving by Hopkinton (just a couple miles off 495) but the Detroit pizza isn't good enough to make a dedicated trip just to try it. The pizza had good carmelization of the bottom and cheese on the edges of the crust. The pizza was about one inch thick - I was expecting a slightly thicker crust. The dough was unevenly cooked - some parts of the dough were slightly gelatinous from being under cooked. The sauce was sweet - a little too sweet for my tastes. There wasn't much pepperoni on the pie. The pepperoni were scattered along the edges of the pie. The price was reasonable at $17 for a small Detroit pizza with four slices is more than enough for one person. The restaurant is a takeout place with a few tables where you can eat. It seems like a lot of good pizza places follow that approach to keep costs down and focus on making good pizza. Overall, I think the Detroit pizza is better at Square Mfg in Natick, but if you're in the area it's worth a visit to Blue Square. read more

Today was the last straw. Pizza took 55 minutes. 25 minutes PAST the estimated 30 minutes. This has happened to me almost every visit. On top of that, 2 of the 3 pizzas were totally burnt on sides and bottom - completely solid black burnt. There was an army of people working and still can't get the food out in a reasonable manner. This seems to be a complaint from many people. Also, tell your staff that sitting down and eating behind the line when it's this busy looks absurd. Get it together. We love their pizza but their service could use some real work ! The young man working front and phones could use some training. Seems like he's never worked a day in service and he is the least bit helpful with order issues. We have ordered ahead and one time showed up and they didn't have record of our pizza order at all. The following time I had to contact customer support on the ordering app multiple times the sure they were even willing to make my order. All times we went we have overhead them telling people on the phones they couldn't take any more orders- at 5pm/6pm Friday or Saturday night. Overall good product but bad service. read more

Unfortunately another subpar performance at Blue Square. The first 2 times we ordered there we were blown away, ever since then we have been chasing the dragon. If I'm paying $28 for a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon on it - is it really too much to ask that each slice has pepperoni, sausage, and bacon on it? I paid extra for red pepper on the whole pizza and then red onion, and mushroom for half, is it just me or does 8 slices of mushroom seem slight? And typically you can't count the number of onion and pepper pieces on a pizza but... I think I'm paying enough for you not to cheap out on super basic toppings. I want to continue to like you guys. I really do. I can even almost overlook the fact that the pizza is always cold when I get delivery no matter who delivers or what "keep warm" bag it comes out of. Other places manage to get me at least lukewarm pizza, but whatever. The DT pizza seems to have been a little more on the normal side of things toppings wise, the NY pepperoni was fair. I seem to always overlook that the Detroit pizza is ALWAYS oily, soggy, and greasy on the bottom, (even when I order there and wait and bring it home) I keep telling myself it's the toppings I'm choosing - however when it's a pizza from the menu I just don't understand. Or are ALL Chicago pizzas soggy on the bottom unless you eat them immediately at a restaurant? I may have eaten more pizza in more places than anyone alive. I have traveled around the country for work, for speaking engagements and with my daughter on her national AAU team and everywhere I go, I get the best pizza there is in that area according to Yelp. In addition I watch videos on pizza making, to learn about the best places in the country and about the way things work on the back of the house. As a result, I know my stuff. And I know what's good, bad and great. I found out about Blue Square from a Phantom Gourmet video and subsequently another video from a pizza marketing source. I was impressed by the owner Troy and his borderline psychotic obsession with making the perfect dough and sauce. He makes a complex sourdough that he uses for all three varieties of his pizza, Detroit style, Grandma style and classic New York style pizza. Blue Square is a reference to the particular steel pans used to make Detroit Pizza. That's their bread and butter (or sauce). It's a tiny little spot that's set up primarily for takeout. Just five tables. And two of them are being constantly used to assemble boxes, it's hard to keep up with the demand. We got a small Detroit and a grandma, both with pepperoni. Both were outstanding. The Detroit was as expected. Thick, airy, light, crispy crust. Top quality cheese and THE best, freshest, most simple, yet flavorful sauce I have had. It came out first and was very impressive. A great pizza, particularly if you enjoy that style. What stood out were the bites that had no sauce. Normally this is not something I enjoy. Even good pizzas don't often have crusts that can stand alone as delicious. This sourdough stood alone as an amazing flavor profile. Then the grandma came out... and my life has changed forever. I had to spend a little while considering this statement to make sure it wasn't the euphoria or recency bias. It's not. The pepperoni grandma pizza at Blue Square is THE best pizza I have ever had. Literal perfection for it's golden brown, incredible crisp and unbelievably flavorful crust to the top shelf cheese combination to the sauce... OMFG that sauce. As simple as it was flavorful... The best I've ever encountered. It's as fresh as it could be and seems as simple as it could be. It was like Troy took fresh San Marzanos and crushed them up, added some olive oil, a little spice and released this masterpiece into the world. Bright, fresh, brassy, incredible. That pizza was a 12 out of 10. I can't imagine a better one exists anywhere. And I've been everywhere. Take the trip, hope there is a seat and understand how special this experience is. read more

Will be taking a break from Blue Square for a bit. Pizza is awesome--NY, Detroit, Grandma's, all great. However... it's getting very, very old having to stand around the shop for 30-45 minutes past the estimated pick up time. We order most Fridays but picking up the pizza has become a game of Russian Roulette. Sometimes the orders are ready, sometimes you stand around waiting for almost an hour--more frequently, it's the latter. Note: I wrote the review above after standing around for twenty minutes before receiving my pizza and was going to sit on it. Finally received ten minutes later. Just got home. This is my "pepperoni pizza please add vodka sauce" -- absolutely ludicrous. The order is incorrect and somehow the cheese is congealed. It's almost like it was sitting around waiting for however long before they called my name. Ordering, price and wait times outweigh the food quality. Was super excited to read about this place opening, and since it did, have ordered 3-4 times. Tried again last night, putting in a pick up order at 6 PM or a bit after via the web site. Upon acceptance, the app listed a pick up time of 7:45, more than an hour an a half. This was an unhappy surprise, but worse was when we tried to call 2 times to cancel the order and were met with the voicemail hell phone system. We left messages and asked for a confirmation call back, no one ever called. Sure enough 2 hours later we finally got a call (Caller ID didn't even say Blue Square) asking when we were picking up our order. My very patient wife explained that we had tried to call twice and left 2 messages. Blue Square said they would refund the purchase. The pizza is very good, though the high prices for toppings make it an overly expensive option. But I can't get past a pizza place simply not picking up their phone. If you are that busy, then please turn off your phone service entirely as well as any web ordering services. But if you are taking 1.5+ hours to fill a simple 2 pizza pick up order I'd say you have some internal challenges to deal with. read more

Very impressed with the pizzas they are making here... and from the constant flurry of locals arriving for their pickup orders while I enjoyed my pizza in house, it seems like a lot of others agree. This is definitely the best pizza anywhere around, by far. While it's just a little more expensive than what you may find at other local places, it's definitely worth the price for the quality of ingredients, the great dough recipe... and a fantastic end product. I can vouch for the Detroit Style and the NY Style... haven't tried the Grandma yet... honestly, don't understand it yet, so have to check that one out at some time. On a recommendation from a friend, went to their website found it a fifteen minute drive from home, so why not. The wait was an hour, not too bad. We got the Detroit style sausage and red onion, and a dozen plain wings. Driving there, the street was relatively busy so parked a little walk to get there. Indoors, the others waiting for their orders. It smelled divine. Pizza heaven. The back room everyone working and hustling to get orders done.
