Ordered the salmon platter with basmati rice, friends ordered the tilapia sandwiches and chicken platter with vegetables. Food was delicious, well seasoned, and fresh. The watermelon juice was amazing and refreshing. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday evening, and we had a bit of a wait for the food but totally worth it. The green sauce was good and the spice was well balanced by the yogurt side that is included. Great prices and decent sized portions.

I love this place! The Somali steak sandwich is phenomenal! I highly recommend it-steak is great, bread is so good, try it with or without the green sauce (which I could bathe in)! The cashier is always kind and makes me smile. I just found out they have parking if you enter in the lot right before H&R Block and go to the back! The actual restaurant is humble with cute decor. Definitely give this place a try!

New favorite east side spot. Always on my list and was hesitant as I've never had Somali food but it was excellent. Service was excellent- ambiance is perfect. My favorite spots are like this, hole in the wall gem. The steak sandwich is awesome- plates are great. Can't wait to come back.

Again, I love coming here. I had the chicken platter after work and it was so cozy. I also ordered their chai for the first time and it was soooo warming to drink. It was perfectly sweet as well. Everytime I come here I love how neighborly the environment is, it is never stuck up nor fake, they serve you as you are and I love it.

If I could give this place six stars, I would (and I've never said that in a review before)! Everything was absolutely delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere struck the perfect balance of casual and fitting for the location. Plus, they have menu options you can't find just anywhere in Milwaukee. I knew I wanted to try a sambusa, so I went for the beef one, and it did not disappoint. The peas inside added a great texture, the outside was perfectly crispy, and I'm obsessed with the green sauce they pair it with. Based on the counter staff's recommendation, I also tried the Somali-style steak sandwich. It's like he read my mind--I loved it. The chopped steak was tender and packed with flavor, and the bread--wow! So soft and delicious. I also tried Vimto soda for the first time! My friend thought the chicken Suqaar sandwich was a must-order too. To top it all off, the owner checked in on us and was so friendly and kind. It made the experience feel extra personal and welcoming. Plus, the prices were incredibly reasonable. This is definitely a hidden gem I want to keep to myself but also share with everyone, because no one should miss out on this bite!

If you're looking for an "African restaurant," I feel like maybe you should realize that not only is Africa a vast continent, it has some remarkable diversity in climate and geography. There's more similarity in European cooking, or North American food than there is in Asian or African cuisine. There is a lot of internal similarity for North African as opposed to East or West Sub-Saharan African eating. The owners themselves seem to obfuscate the fact that this is a Somali restaurant, I've seen this before with other ethnic restaurants. My favorite Sri Lankan restaurant in Madison used to make it seem like they were an Asian-Middle Eastern-Mexican restaurant, and yet they were authentically Sri Lankan. Based on the four Somali restaurants I've been to, I'd say this is authentic and also very good. Somali cuisine isn't (Northern) Ethiopian (the staple isn't injera, it's rice or pasta), but there are some strong similarities in spices. Since Somalia is East Africa, there are influences from across the Indian Ocean, but also Mediterranean and Middle Eastern touches. Still, Somali food is its own thing, it truly "is what it is" to use the original meaning of the now overused phrase. It's crowded due to popularity, the service can be slow but is much faster an hour before closing, the food is really delicious. Make sure to get a sambusa appetizer, if you eat meat try the chicken or goat platter over pasta or rice. Don't expect a fancy interior, but it's clean and welcoming.

Friendly welcome as we entered, quick and kind service. The food was amazing. Highly recommend the samosas and the beef and basmati rice!

Small causal spot nothing fancy. But the food is good and plentiful. I had the Goat plate. Loved the yellow rice, meat was tender and flavorful. That Samosa with the Jalapeno sauce was amazing.

    Goat rice platter- so yummy!

Great family owned business right on farewell! Always great customer service and food! Busy every time I walk in and the food speaks for itself! 5/5 for authentic Ethiopian food. Recommend the rice with potatoes and pickled onions + Somali steak sandwich but the goat platter is also a winner along with samosas! Cheap too! Rice + Huge sandwich= 10$ Best bang for your buck food spot in Milwaukee!!

Our server, Adam, was quick and attentive. He was funny, suggested items for us to try, and was very tentative of our friend's food allergy. We started the night with a few drinks; #39 non-alcoholic Paloma, #129 non-alcoholic sbagiato, and #33 Sherry Pear-Y. All of which were absolutely amazing! Then we ordered the Chili Crisp Deviled Eggs (comes with two pieces), Crispy Thai-Style Oyster Mushrooms, Cappelletti, Slow-braised Bison Cheek, Cha Ca La Vong (Catfish), and the Wood-fired Bavette Steak. Where do I begin? First off, everything was fantastic! Delicious, creative, and memorable. Some dishes even had us ordering seconds! First the Chili Crisp Deviled Eggs: so creamy! We ended up ordering another plate of them (four orders) because one wasn't enough for the four of us. The Crispy Thai-Style Oyster Mushroom: insanely seasoned! It was crispy and the kick of the Thai chili peppers, made it our tables favorite (we ordered another plate of this)! The bits of crunch rice mixed in was also a pleasant surprise. The bits of green beans and cucumber was a nice way to cool the kick of the spices. The Slow-braised Bison Cheek: It was very interesting. Very soft and when paired with the polenta cake, mozzarella, and carrot, it tasted amazing. Cha Ca La Vong (Catfish): Also very interesting. It tastes very similar to a Vietnamese catfish soup! The pineapple fish sauce paired amazing with the glass noodles. The only complaint I have about this dish, was that the glass noodles weren't fully cooked, so they were a bit hard. The Wood-fired Bavette Steak: My god, this was amazing! It was perfectly cooked, the dark chocolate bordelaise paired with the mushrooms and steak was incredible. Like I said, everything was amazing! Our table was blown away with the creativity and quality of the food. The service was amazing, everyone was very sweet and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely and quirky. It was fun spotting all the duck decorations. Honestly, cannot rave enough about this place, I look forward to the next time I visit!

The servers here know the menu very well which was super helpful when deciding what we wanted to order. The food was good but out of the 4 dishes we ordered the Tempura Nori Roll GIMMARI was the only memorable item to me and our server said it would be rotated off of the menu. I can tell that there has been a lot of care and detail put into the experience here and I can really appreciate that.

Great selection of a few, expertly made dishes - most being vegetarian. Fun fact, the chicken dish usually runs out first. It's a lunch place and only open for a few hours each day, M-F. Pro tip - come at 11am to ensure you get your top meal choice. Sometimes I come through at 1:30pm (they close at 2pm) and there's really not much left. The portions are decent for lunch - two "mains" like I usually get daal and paneer plus basmati rice. That will run you $14 (without tip). The spice level is always very nice meaning there's heat but it doesn't overwhelm (at least I don't think it does; with the caveot being I love spicy food). People rave about the green sauce but I think the meal is always tasty without it. There's seating available if you want to dine in but everything is served in styrofoam and easily can be taken to go. I'm glad this place exists downtown and provides an excellent alternative to Third Ward dining options / meat-centric cuisine. The only potential issue you'll have is parking. Street parking in Milwaukee can be a pain especially in the summer but metered parking close by during the week isn't too hard to find. Let's just say don't let it deter you from giving this place a try.

We've enjoyed "sip and paints" here, New Year's Eve, when they offered brunch with crepes, and frequented when they had their vegetarian lunch buffet. Unfortunately, things have changed. 1. Atmosphere The décor hasn't changed. Still sleek, dimly lit, and romantic. The bathroom water wasn't working, and staff seemed aware of it when we mentioned it. How is that sanitary or up to code? Several of the chairs brought to our table were also broken, with bent legs a clear safety issue. It's typically packed on a Saturday like a dance club but it was nearly empty on a Saturday night which may be a reflection of our experience. 2. Service Our waitress was kind and attentive despite handling a large group, but the busboy was unprofessional. He started clearing plates while people were still eating and even asked my husband to reach across the table to hand over other guests' dishes. It made us feel rushed, even though the place wasn't busy. 3. Food My chicken shawarma was greasy, hard, sour, and unseasoned, almost as if the meat had gone bad. The potato balls were cut open which I've never seen and underwhelming. My husband and son's wings were over fried and tough, the spinach artichoke dip was clumpy and poorly blended, and others said the lamb chops were "okay." Honestly, the best thing I ate that night was the pita bread. 4. Overall Experience This used to be our go to for birthdays, Brady Street drag show viewing, and happy hour, but it's gone downhill. Between the sanitation issues, broken furniture, food quality, and rushed service, it no longer feels like "our spot". SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.... This was hard to write because I have so many great memories here and I wanted the experience to be better. Sadly, I won't be returning.

I recently got out of my comfort zone and visited Casablana for dinner. I ended up ordering the Baked Lamb because it required no modifications. The Baked Lamb is shredded, marinated lamb on a bed of basmati rice with a side of homemade yogurt. I tried the yogurt, but didn't end up using any of it. Both the lamb and rice had good flavor. I wasn't expecting the lamb to be shredded; rather, I assumed it would be something I'd have to cut like with a knife. I feel like you get a good amount of both, but I wouldn't get it again. I wanted to try beef shawarma and a chicken kabob and asked if those could be added as an upcharge for $5 each like you can do if you order a salad as your meal. To my disappointment, I was told no, that the only way I could get those was to order the combo plate for $23 on top of the $25 meal I already ordered. Seems dumb.
