a plate of chicken and rice

Saw this place while driving down 27th st. This is like the the 3rd restaurant to open up. I hope these people stick around. I really enjoy Yemeni food. Came here with my whole family (parents+siblings+husband and kids). We got their chicken, lamb haneeth and fahsah. I would encourage people to try them out, especially in the winter all that warm food and meat...yummm! They opened very recently so customer service is slow.

Very tasty Yemeni food. Highly recommended. I tried their haneeth, mandi, kebda, and Fahsa and all of them were excellent.

I was about to add another clause to the first sentence, but I've never been to another Yemeni restaurant.

I have newly moved to the Milwaukee area from Metro Detroit (home to the largest Arab population outside of the Middle East) and therefore not only did I grow up with great food our restaurant options have always been elite. If I seem nitpicky I'm sorry but let's get to it! I got the mixed grill plate, Turkish salad, and a lentil soup. Highlights: the shish tawook was perfect, juicy, not over cooked, the kafta loaded with flavors, the hummus was solid, I loved the bed of rice it was on, and the soup delicious... "so T, what happened to the half star?" This is where I might be overly critical... the chopped veggie salad was in dire need of salt, or consider dressing it with the jalapeño mix that was on the hummus. The Turkish salad put me in quite a conundrum... was it delicious? Oh hell ya, was it spicy? Yes (inject it my veins), so what's the issue? My issue here was just that it wasn't a salad. It was an excellent salsa, but I didn't have chips to eat it with and this isn't a "salad" you can eat by itself. If they had fried the Arabic bread and seasoned it like the fattoush chips and gave me a bag of it with the Turkish salad that might be the greatest combo known to Milwaukee. Finally, the only true criticism of this place, the beef kabobs... flavor was amazing, it was tender too but it was severely overcooked. I don't blame the restaurant because as an Lebanese person I grew up with way too many over cooked bbqs and aunts and uncles thinking red meat was blood despite eating kibbee nayee (beef tartar-Lebanese style) but if that had two minutes less on the grill it might have the holy grail of mixed grill plates. All of this to say I was very impressed, Milwaukee has some good spots and I wasn't sure what to expect when I moved here but this place does it for me, will probably make it a rotational spot

The restaurant itself is so cute. I really appreciate all the cozy touches, beautiful art, and amazing pink tree in the middle. This place would make for a great date night or girls dinner! Our service was amazing. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We ordered the hummus trio to start which was colorful and delicious. We were brought so much fresh, warm bread with the hummus. We also asked for a side of veggies for the hummus, and they quickly brought us some. Everyone in the group enjoyed their entrees. We especially enjoyed the side of spicy fried potatoes.

The interior is beautifully decorated with Middle Eastern influences and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. Service was a bit inconsistent during our visit. After being seated, it took longer than expected for someone to come by, and a drink order was forgotten and didn't arrive until near the end of the meal. We started with the hummus trio and fresh pita. The paprika hummus was flavorful and stood out, while the other varieties were pleasant but a little mild for my taste. We also ordered the pistachio chicken bites, which were unique and offered a nice combination of flavors. For the main course, I tried the chicken shawarma. The chicken itself was excellent--tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. My biggest disappointment was the side of roasted vegetables. Based on the menu description, I expected a more substantial portion, but the serving was surprisingly small. Overall, the meal was a mix of highs and lows. The atmosphere and some of the dishes were very enjoyable, while the service and a few portion sizes left room for improvement. Still, since the restaurant is well regarded and there were several menu items I didn't get a chance to try, I'd be open to giving it another visit in the future.

So, of course, we had to try a bunch of different items. All the dips, the topped hummus, baba ghanoush, and skillet tomatoes (forgot the name) were amazing! The hummus alone was so silky and smooth. The bread is super soft and fluffy; we had the flatbread with different toppings. Very good! My favorite was the za'atar one. We had something I've never had before called Stromboli (stuffed roll) with Akkawi white cheese, and it was my favorite. So, so good! And we can't forget the falafel, with the hummus and the fluffy bread, just goes together perfectly. Staff were all super informative and friendly. They have the cutest Budgerigar birds, a blue and a green one, so cute!

There are still lots of…read morepictures from their old location on Layton, but as of April 2025, they are inside Rayan Market & Restaurant, a Middle Eastern market (see pictures). It is a small family owned business, and mother cooks all the food. It's only been a month since they moved here from Layton, so they don't have a sign yet, but just go in to the Rayan super market, and navigate yourself to the back of the building. They do have a table off to the side inside the market if you're in a pinch and need to eat there, but I'd recommend taking the food to go. The family is friendly, and if you aren't too familiar with Mediterranean food, they will help you navigate their menu items. They have 2 types of rice. One is a smoked rice (first time I tried it, and it was good!), and the other one is cinnamon. I didn't care for the latter, but the smoked rice was delicious. I was only going to try a bite or two, but I ended up kicking myself off of keto and ate a whole bowl. Chicken special - with rice and salad Salad was a small portion of very fresh lettuce, tomato and cucumber in light oil dressing. Chicken was a bit dry for my taste. They did have the chicken in a warmer plate (like the buffet style) and it must have been sitting there a while. The flavors were good, but the dryness was disappointing. The menu says "half chicken", but we got 2 pieces of thigh+drum. In a way that's good, cuz any breast meat would have been so much more dry. Lamb special - with rice and salad We ordered the cinnamon rice for this dish and the smoked one for the chicken dish. Like I said, the smoked rice was better for my palate. The lamb was delicious. It was falling off the bones, but it wasn't dry. We got 3 large chunks of lamb with bone and one little piece boneless. In both plates, our server piled the rice so high! I hope they don't go out of business giving so much rice! But I'm not complaining. Overall, the meal was delicious and I would definitely go again. I'd love to try some of their appetizers and other meat items.

After hearing so many positive comments from coworkers, I finally decided to stop by in person and I'm glad I did. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and had a relaxed atmosphere. I especially appreciated the music selection--it was pleasant and low enough that you could actually have a conversation without shouting across the table. The food was just as good as I remembered from the catering orders: fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. Everything came out hot and well prepared, and it's easy to see why this place has become a favorite among our team. As someone who looks for halal options, I also appreciated that the food is halal, which makes it an even better choice for group lunches and family meals. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the overall experience felt smooth from start to finish. It's always nice when a restaurant lives up to the expectations created by its catering service, and this one definitely did. Between the quality of the food, the comfortable atmosphere, reasonable prices, and the fact that it's halal, I can definitely see myself coming back regularly. Highly recommended.
