Made the trip out here twice, since they are closed on Sundays. They were roasting when I was there on Monday. They have a glass window so that you can see the process. The beans smelled amazing and they were popping like pop corn. Honestly I have been in the coffee business for 7 years total and I know my way around a roaster and an espresso bar and this was some of the best espresso I have had. I got a double short iced latte. I mean, you can get an 8 oz iced latte? I was in heaven. The smaller size made all the difference so that the espresso wasn't drowned in milk. The depth of the espresso shone throw in this drink. I consider coffee a necessity and this was one amazing way to have it. Good thing they ship the beans back into Seattle. I am looking forward to getting a pound for my French press soon. Huge fan! read more

Great coffee, but the shop is small and gets overrun easily. Plenty of places in town to get the same roasted coffee brewed or in the bag!

I was visiting the Methow Valley for the weekend with a group of friends. I had forgotten to get coffee before leaving town, and I know that Bluestar does a great job roasting their beans, so I stopped by. I wanted a pound of half decaf, but the staff were unwilling to mix up a pound for me, instead forcing me to buy a bag of regular and a bag of decaf. The coffee is great, but the poor customer service Will be etched in my memory forever. It's not that hard to make customers happy, especially under this particular circumstance. It wouldn't have taken anything to get a couple of scoops out of a decaf bin and a couple of scoops out of a regular bin and make a happy customer. read more

I found this place a few years ago on a roadtrip through the Methow Valley in Washington and it blew my mind. They make great coffee- its as simple as that. I have ordered beans a few times from them and they are delicious! There is always some intriguing bean or blend to try out. Whenever I will return I will make sure to stop by. Visiting Twisp for the first time ever while driving the Cascade Loop, checking out Blue Star was on the top of my to do list. I had read great articles about this coffee roaster in Seattle magazine, Sunset magazine and the NYTimes. It was a bit of a challenge to find because while it is located on Hwy 20, which runs through town, it sits below the grade of the road and cannot be seen if you are driving North, which the majority of traffic is. I'm glad I persevered though because it was well worth it. I bought a pound of Blue Star's signature blend, Hwy 20 House Blend, which is a pleasing roast that is a combination of South and Central American beans. I love that a town of this size has a great coffee roaster, especially given that plenty of town with populations 10-20 times larger lack a decent coffee shop, much less an actual coffee roaster. My only suggestions to the owners is to post a sign for folks who are heading North so they know your business exists and offer an option to purchase a larger size of coffee cup w/ your logo. I would've loved to have purchased one so I could help promote your business, but the diminutive size is completely impractical. Offering a larger sized mug also makes more sense from a business model perspective, given that your livelihood depends on selling large quantities of coffee beans. Seriously good coffee. They make a top-notch cappuccino. If you are buying beans I'd recommend the Celebration blend.

I tried Blue Star's Expresso Blend recently while visiting friends in Winthrop and loved it. Nice well balanced and dark, great flavor with or without creamer. Loved it so much I brought a bag home. Only problem was my first ever hand search of carry-on luggage at the airport. Might have been suspected of carrying drugs in the coffee..... read more
