Where do you go in Winthrop when it's earrrrrly on a Saturday morning and you need some coffee (and wi-fi)? Well, Rocking Horse should be at the top of your list! I was in town to visit a friend and awoke early, so rather than making a bunch of noise in their small house, I meandered downtown with my laptop and discovered Rocking Horse. I ordered a delish white mocha, nommed on a freshly baked muffin, and topped it off with a personal-sized pan of their incredibly tasty quiche. What put this place at the top of my coffee list, though, was the impeccable service. So friendly, and so welcoming - even as the early morning line of customers grew and grew. I will definitely be back!

My fiancé's family has a cabin in Winthrop, and the Rocking Horse Bakery has always been one of our favorite spots to sit and enjoy a warm drink and a treat, especially in the winter. Today, I ordered a cinnamon roll and a chai tea latte. My fiancé ordered a drip coffee and a vegetable panini. The cinnamon rolls are always huge and delicious, and today did not disappoint. The staff are super friendly here. They accidentally made me a latte instead of a chai latte, but quickly were able to make me a new chai latte with no problem. We enjoyed our drinks while watching the snow fall outside the window. There's lots of seating, making it a great sport to camp with a book or journal for a couple hours. Overall, the Rocking Horse Bakery is very cozy, has great drinks and treats, and is a Winthrop-must!

Cute spot for a morning cup of coffee as well as breakfast or lunch on the go... Pros- friendly and fast service. All the hot breakfast sandwiches and burritos are premade. Their scrambles are also premade and heated in their microwave upon ordering. They have cold sandwiches as well as some paninis. I didn't order any of those, but assume they will grill them once ordered. Most of the employees seemed to be local teens, which I thought was pretty cool. Cons- the breakfast sandwich I had along with their cinnamon pull apart muffin were quite dry. The sandwich could have used an aioli or a grilled tomato, that would have helped with the dryness. Pull apart muffin would have been better warmed up. Another con- the chai I ordered was a premade chai that you can buy from any grocery store... I know cause I usually buy it from our local Safeway. Oliver's just down the street has better drinks that start with an in-house chai blend or a in-house chocolate ganache, which make their drinks way better! If you're looking for something quick though this would be your spot, at least in Winthrop.

Coffee was good. Breakfast burrito was good, but cinnamon roll was the highlight. Friendly service.

Yelp showed me some awesome photos of cinnamon rolls, which made me want to visit the Rocking Horse. The cinnamon roll was definitely worthy of the stop. So, if you need a reason to stop - that's it. We ended up stoping at the Rocking Horse Bakery both mornings that we were in Winthrop and the place was always busy, but the line moved swiftly and the staff was very friendly. Even with a long-ish line, they were eager to answer patron questions and advise on which breakfast sandwiches were the best. I didn't personally find my Chai Latte to be that stimulating; it was a bit watery for my taste, but the hot drink in the cool morning was perfection. However, I did enjoy the breakfast burrito and the breakfast sandwich. If I were to choose, I would point you to the breakfast burrito, it had a great flavor and was not messy to eat. The sandwich was also good, but the biscuit left tons of crumbs. But, the highlight was the cold chicken pesto sandwich. I'll bet if you got it toasted it would be incredible, unfortunately, I didn't think of that until after I left, but it was still very good.

Cute bakery and coffee shop with lots of indoor (no pets) and a few outdoor tables. They have your standard coffee shop options with non dairy milks available, and also fresh lemonade. A variety of breakfast options including a burrito, biscuit sandwiches and egg scrambles (kind of like a crust less quiche). Only wish they had heated the egg scramble up, it would've been perfect! Lots of vegetarian options, not sure about vegan. They also had lunch sandwiches and paninis as well. Friendly service and reasonable prices!

The cinnamon pull apart and veggie quiche I had were delicious! The service was kind of slow, but we didn't mind. The outdoor seating on the river was nice.

Rude, power hungry little guy would have dimmed the lights if there were any on! We arrived in Winthrop shortly after the power in the entire valley went out due to the fires. Pardners had their generator up and running first so everybody was there getting ice, gas and necessities. Little did we know the grocery store would open or we never would have shopped here. The prices are absolutely outrageous and I know the little power hungry guy at the register was chuckling inside the whole time. He was rude to every customer in the store, wouldn't answer questions, said no a lot and was just generally horrible. Being visitors, we were in a bit of a panic, not quite knowing what to do. We had driven 8 hours to get that far and the thought of turning around didn't sit well with all of our tired bodies so we figured we'd get some food and hunker down for the night. Sandwiches would suit us just fine... hey, no bread... frozen sandwich rolls would be great once they thawed. (Remember, the entire valley is without power for an estimated two weeks at this point.) Power Boy refused to sell us the rolls stating they needed them for the steamed hot dogs. PERFECT! We'll take 8 of those steamed hot dogs then... no can do, generator doesn't operate the steamer... then we'll just take the rolls... no can do, they're mine and you can't have them! I was absolutely appalled at his attitude during the crisis of HIS town. He didn't want to help in the least, just wanted to ring up those sales. We walked out wondering what to do, what to do, what to eat (not what to drink, he sold us plenty of cold beer) only to discover the grocery store had opened! Wish we could have taken all our purchases back to Pardners... We visit Winthrop a couple times a year and have never shopped at Pardners and needless to say, we will never shop there again. Heck, it's a Texaco... may not ever use Texaco again... careful big corporations, these little town hicks wearing your logo and representing your company can give you a bad reputation. Note: I typically don't rant or rate low because of one employee or interaction and this one is no different. Every worker in there (3 men) was rude, disrespectful and "angry" with the customers. Maybe some training on disaster preparedness is in order...

It was sickeningly sweet and was far too light (too much milk). I moved to an iced green tea, but it was quite watery. We ordered two burritos, a chorizo and a sausage one. Sausage was fine, chorizo had some sort of rice or cornmeal in it and was very crumbly and dry. I can't remember the last time I returned food, but took both the burrito and latte back. My husband's quad shot vanilla latte was also very subpar. Stick with the baked goods and you won't regret the visit! Stray from that path and you'll find disappointment.
