Don't go here. Bland food. Poor service. Just not worth it. None of the food we ordered was seasoned and for some reason there was pepper but not salt on all the tables...unfortunately all the food needed salt. There was a single potato chip in the middle of a plate that wasn't supposed to come with chips. Even the beer was flat and lukewarm. All around a waste of money. When we sat down to wait for our food there was a table next to us where people had left a fair amount of food on each plate. A little disappointed based upon the reviews. The fish tacos were bland and tasteless until I doused them with a ton of tabletop sriracha sauce, which would not be my first choice for tacos. The pulled pork sandwiches were not great. The only person happy with her meal at our table got the roasted red pepper/tomato soup of the day and crostini. The atmosphere was cute and great for kids on a rainy day- loud music and plenty of space for them to run around and be rambunctious without bothering everyone eating. I didn't really know what to expect after looking at the menu online and reading other reviews. The restaurant is a very casual place with little ambiance, bright lights, loud music and somewhat "hard" seating. That being said, the food was delish! We started with the surf chips (parm, cilantro lime), which was tasty, but was basically bagged kettle chips with fresh cilantro, lime and freshly grated Parmesan on top. For $3.50-small order-we got a very small dish (maybe the equivalent of a single serving sized bag. I ordered chili dusted shrimp. Even though the shrimp was cooked a little past perfection, the fresh ingredients and the combination of flavors were exquisite. It came out on a very small plate and I was surprisingly, stuffed. My daughter had a small plate: Rosemary bread pudding with smacked salmon. She sopped up every bite and enjoyed every morsel. She too was filled. My son deliberated for a while and settled on the bacon, beef meatball dish. He asked to have the mushroom sauce served on the side and never tried it, but my daughter and I both did and found it full of flavor. Great food, this place has creative and yummy dishes. However be warned, they only serve the waffles for breakfast! I came to try them but it was too late and they didn't have. I had the mahi which was really good and I normally don't like steamed kale or grits but the flavors on both were so good that it was a beyond delicious meal. We found the Blue Surf Cafe on Yelp. We really enjoyed our lunch here. The menu is fresh and inviting. You order from the board and bring your number to your table to deliver. I ordered the Cali Burger prepared with a fresh black bean burger. It was served with avocado, tomato, mixed greens, feta cheese and a jalapeño relish. I chose the chick peas marinated in citrus as a side. The meal was delicious. Personally I would have liked a little more heat from the jalapeño, but it was very good. My husband ordered the mahi mahi grilled tacos. They were served with a mango and radish salsa. My husband said he would have preferred the mango cut up into smaller chunks so it could have been eaten ON the taco and not just along side it. Overall he enjoyed it. The staff walked around to refill drinks and also to clear the table as needed. The vibe is very casual and comfortable. It is beachy without being over the too. The color blue that adorns the walls is the perfect surfer vibe blue as well as the photos that are hanging on the pallet walls and surrounding walls. We also liked that the bench seats had comfy pillows. The music was also really enjoyable and suited the atmosphere well. Only downside was we didn't realize there was only one egg on this - but that's our fault for not reading the menu more carefully. I had the blueberry compote waffle - blueberries were super fresh, not at all gelatinous like some places that serve that blueberry waffles. Coffee was good and fresh. I yelped before leaving hotel, finding this cool cafe with 4+ stars. Great location nestled between two major roads. This place has a really awesome interior, wood/concrete,and chalkboard menu. I think if I had to pick a favorite restaurant in town this would have to be it. I have eaten all three meals here, however hands down their breakfast is my favorite. The hippy hash is tops and then with the sriracha ketchup - that is really as good as it gets. My kids ALWAYS order the same thing, but they are always happy with it. This is the perfect kind of restaurant for this location, with good (not great) food. Sandwiches are big and tasty. My only flavor disappointment has been the hummus, which tastes like it was squirted with bottled lemon juice (come on, use real lemon juice, and less of it, you can taste the difference.) So the biggest problem with this place is the price. Its close to campus, and it is sandwich food, my bill should not be $11.00 for lunch. The students will not be able to afford this place. Knock off a few dollars per sandwich, or make them a little smaller and cut the price, and you'll have a full restaurant instead a half-full restaurant. read more

The meatloaf sandwich was very messy but very tasty. The red onion was too strong for my taste but overall very good. The potato salad was creamy but thought the slices were too big.
