Based on all the positive reviews, I finally decided to give Blue Zoo a try. And it was, depressingly, about what you'd expect from a for-profit aquarium in a shopping mall. The animal enclosures are tiny. Like, alarmingly small. (They had the poor electric eel was crammed into a tank barely larger than he was.) And some of them clearly hadn't been cleaned in awhile. (The axolotl tank, in particular, was in desperate need of cleaning, with streamers of green algae growing on all of its surfaces.) It was also an interesting choice to stick a jungle gym/play area right in the middle of everything, so that the animals are inundated with the happy screams of children all day long. That's nothing against the kids, but it demonstrates where Blue Zoo's priorities seem to be. To their credit, the staff seemed to be trying. But there is simply not enough space for this place to be what it's trying to be. Any worthwhile zoo, large or small, needs to balance the needs of its animals with the needs of its visitors. Tragically, Blue Zoo fails to find that balance. I had hoped that the positive reviews on this place were accurate. I used to live near an aquarium, and dearly miss visiting it. But places like this are not the answer. If your family loves animals, take them on a road trip to Woodland Park Zoo or Point Defiance Aquarium; places where the animals are professionally cared for. My granddaughter and I had an amazing time (they have updated it since we last attended a couple years ago) The staff were very friendly knowledgeable, and you could tell really cared about the animals. The Mermaid show and pirate experience was definitely a highlight! Red Beard (Spencer) was so good with the children and made every child feel special. Pearl (Zoe) - after the attentive manager asked for my granddaughter's name ahead of time - talked to my granddaughter and dove in the tank and blew her kisses and gave her a hug (through the glass). She, too, was so good with all the kids! Everyone went above and beyond to make it a wonderful experience! Besides the animals they have a couple water tables and pirate ship to explore which were also a big hit! They have a party room which we may use in the future. read more

We were visiting the grandkids for the holidays. We wanted to do kids activities with them. I found that Groupon had a discount for admission amd since we had 7 adults and 2 children any discount we can get helps. This place is located in the Northtown Mall, just past Buffalo Wild Wings. We arrived at around 2:45pm. I saw that they were going to have a pirate and mermaid show on at 5p. I thought we were there way too early but we were told that we can come and go all day so if we wanted a break for lunch or dinner in the mall we could leave and come back. We decided to play it by ear. This place isn't big but the cool things was the sting ray area, the birds cage where you go in and they fly around you or buy a token to feed them which we did and was very cool. The kids played on the pirate ship and water games. They had plenty of employees there being very helpful and friendly with everyone. Before we knew it it was 5p and time for the pirate and mermaid to make an appearance. The pirate walked around and interacted with the kids. The mermaid entered the water tank that had some baby sharks. She was just lovely and interacted with the kids. My granddaughter was in awe of her. We ended up upgrading our ticket to an annual pass. The only negative is there were a few empty tanks and the restrooms are out in the mall. read more

An aquarium in a mall? What a great idea! The aquarium is close to the kids play area and you can get an annual pass to include a walk-through as a routine get out of the house event. The aquarium was well staffed with friendly and helpful people. The Facility was clean and the tanks were well-kept. If you are a water person this is the place to be. The decor is very nautical and there are even mermaids. The gift shop caused me to pause and there are some great items there for kids of all ages. Inside the aquarium zoo there are opportunities for toddlers to get their hands wet at the water table and also the opportunity to pet rays. There is a pirate ship to climb on and take great selfie's andDon't miss the opportunity to have fish chew on your fingers. Terrible experience. Used to come here when they first opened with my kids and had great experiences. Came to the "event" today for the first time in ~3yrs. The event was advertised as being from 3:30-5, we arrived at 4pm and there *was* no event. No mermaids, no pirates, no activities, no ice cream, they weren't even taking things down. False advertising?? Then half the tanks were empty, and the ones that did have fish, the glass was so dirty you could barely see in. The bird room had a 30min wait and then when you got in you were not allowed to touch the birds/have them land on you/feed them anymore, you have to sit and watch from across the room. Spent $38 to get in for one adult & my 6yo, and we were both very disappointed. Do *not* recommend. Sad as there is honestly very little to do with kids here in Spokane and this is now out. read more

We took the kids here this last weekend. I had been hearing how cool it was and well there isn't much to do around here especially in the winter so we decided to give it a try. When you first walk in your in a gift shop, I honestly didnt look around much because I already knew we would be spending a ton of money just to get in at $16 per adult 14 and up and $13 per kid 13 and younger and $5 a token to feed animals In total we spend about $119 to get in two adults, one 17 YO One 15 YO one 13 YO and a 9 YO and 4 feed tokens. Way spendy. When you first walk into the aquarium your in a darker room with several cool tanks filled with different varieties of fish. It was pretty cool and the tanks seemed clean and all the fish seemed well I know I read several comments where people said the tanks were dirty and there were dead fish that was not the case when we went there. The next area we went to was the stingray pond which had to be our favorite part of all we spent the majority of our time at this pond. You can pet them and feed them if you purchase the $10 tokens my suggestion is that you don't since they get feed so much that they are not interested in eating so it is a waste of money. We went to the birds next and had to sit in line for about 20 min and normally I wouldn't have but my 17 YO really wanted to use her feed token to feed the birds. It is always our favorite thing to do at any zoo or aquarium we visit. When it was finally our turn to go in we were informed that the birds were taking a break from eating which was disappointing especially after waiting for 20 min. The only birds in the bird area are parakeets and they weren't very friendly. We didnt spend much time in the bird area because it wasn't fun at all. Next, we went to the reptile area which was pretty cool, there are only 4 exhibits in there but you can pet the turtles and normally feed them but of course, they were out of turtle food which again was disappointing since that is what my sons wanted to feed. There is a play structure in the center and an interactive water play area that is actually kind of annoying since it is right where you wait in line to go in the aviary and we were pretty wet from standing next to it for 20 min. The shark tank was pretty murky but still kinda cool. Overall we spent over $100 to get in which was pretty spendy for a glorified playroom with aquariums. The staff wasn't much help at all, in fact, they all seemed to be teenagers. It is pretty crowded all the time and since it is pretty much a playroom not all the kids are not very well supervised, we got splashed with water, hit with balls and ran into several times. ALSO do not get the tokens they are a big waste of money we ended up having to feed the stingrays since it was the only option and as I said earlier they don't want to eat because they get fed so much. This is a one-time visit place only, in my opinion, You go once to check it out and never return again because it is not worth the price. read more

I was disappointed in how the animals were treated and the state of things over all. I want to give more stars because the girls working there were so sweet, helpful, and enthusiastic, but the place needs some help with management. The tortoise didn't have any water, which I mentioned to a worker, and she said "she's just bored. She tips it over." Well, yeah. That's the problem. She has 15 square feet of wood chips and absolutely nothing else to do. There's literally nothing in there but wood chips and a bowl. She has to be so under-stimulated. My son ended up slipping on the wet floor by one of the water tables, and I couldn't believe how the girls flew in to action to fill out an accident report, offer him juice, and give him a bandaid. As a mom three times over it was pretty much a non issue to me, but they insisted. Again, guaranteed water on a slippery floor is a management issue. The girls were great. Over all, I think in a bigger space with more attention to detail in the animal enclosures it could work. I don't see us going back next time we're in town. read more

If you want your younger children to be able to touch and get close to animals, this is a very good place to do it. My 5 year old grand kid loved it and we spent 3 hours there with him going back and forth constantly between different areas, even after having already seen them. The play areas are ok but nothing great. The explanations that the staff give are very helpful. The whole place is not as large as a typical major aquarium or reptile place, but it still held his attention. One thing that gets quite expensive in addition to the entrance fee is the cost of the food to feed the animals. One little shrimp was $2.50 to feed the stingrays. A small amount of fish food was also $2.50. All in all we spent $10 on food that probably cost the company 50 cents, if that. You may need to keep a close eye on your children since the temptation to pick up the animals can be great. My grandkid had a great time though. read more

Ask if any of the feeding attractions will actually be feeding before wasting your money on tokens. Staff kids did the best they could but really seemed like they didn't know much. We loved it! So fun to touch the aquatic life! The employees were super nice. They accommodated our homeschool group wonderfully. This was a cute little aquarium. It's located in a mall, so it's not huge. They have a few inactive activities for the kids which was really cool. You can pet and feed the sting rays. The have an area where there are birds and you can feed them too. For the young kids they have a cool play water station and a pirate ship they can play on. We only spent an hour here, it's that small. But it was still fun to see and explore. read more

I wasn't really sure what to expect with an aquarium in a mall. The blue zoo was recommended by my local friend who has a toddler. I was intrigued by the idea of getting to pet a sting ray. There was also a feeding option for several animals! I got to feed a tortoise and that was really awesome! I also fed some birds off my hand! Overall it was really a fun time! And it was nice to get out of the scorching hot sun for a little bit! Lots to look at! Kinda expensive for what you get, but I'm sure it costs a lot ti keep things going and take care of the animals. read more

I visited this place w my 14 yo son and 5 yo old daughter early February. We had a blast. The kids loved it. The manta rays were very friendly like little puppy dogs. There is a playground with a water feature. My kids liked this quite a bit. My 5 yo was afraid of the birds. She did like the large video game that is displayed on the floor and she used her feet to jump on things. The staff was extremely friendly and informative. We spent an hour and half there. It is pretty small but it was worth it. They would enjoy another trip or 2. If they add more stuff might be worth visiting again. read more

Yes the daily price is a little high for the size of this place, but the annual pass is well worth it. My 2 yo is free and I myself can take him weekdays only $50 for a year. That's a real deal. Yes you have to pay extra for feedings (worth it for the birds). My kiddo could spend hours here, they have ingeniously put in a small play area in the middle and very cool water toys. The play area seems suited for 3 or 4 years and up, I had to closely supervise. Great place for young kids. Only complaint, there's no bathroom inside or Changing tables. read more

We went there when they first opened, and while we weren't in love, we still enjoyed our adventure. However, we went there this last week and it's really gone downhill in a short amount of time. 1. The tanks were filthy. Some even had dead fish in them. 2. The sting ray tank was... dirty and unsupervised. There were children slapping at the sting rays and picking them up out of the water. There were no workers there to monitor activity so no one stopped them. 3. The shark tank is just sad. Just some sand, some water, and sharks. 4. The pirate ship in the middle is falling apart. 5. The reptile room has free roaming animals with no one to monitor children interaction. The iguana was getting messed with and, again, there was no one to stop it. 6. The cost is a little high for one room with improperly cared for animals. It's unfortunate because this place could be awesome. Not only do I not recommend but if I could I'd shut it down. This is a glorified playroom for kids. Has the feel of a cheesy pet store and is staffed by kids who know nothing or care nothing about marine life. Persons were encouraged to touch wildlife with little to no supervision. It smelled of rubber and plastic and was small and poorly designed. Please Spokane surely we are better than this? Let's design and build a place full of light and education and a welcoming sense of wonder. Should have known we were in for a bad time when the first thing we saw was the gift shop at the beginning of the fiasco. All reputable aquariums we've visited leave that for the end. This place is great for younger kids. Mine Are 10 yrs old. They are having a good time. Have not complained this is childish. But I'm sure if they were a couple years older they would. You can opt to pay $3 to $10 extra for feeding tokens. We didn't which I'm glad because most of the birds were staying up on their perches. They also have a few reptiles. A pirate ship playing area and various sea life you can touch. One can easily see everything in 30 minutes it down by the bone fish grill how convenient. I have mixed feelings about this place. The attractions were great: lots of things to touch and see, and a water play area. My daughter loved seeing all the fish and the animals, getting to feed some of them, and touch them. However, largely the customer service and attitude of the staff was awful. The majority of the employees seemed to be quite young and were very condescending and rude. I definitely understand telling the customers how to interact with the animals and to use caution, but the way they do it is very offputting and makes me not want to go back. All but three of the staff members were polite and welcoming. Most of them, including the mermaid "Coral", acted unnecessarily brisk and unfriendly, even to the children. read more

I took my kids here because it sounded like something they would enjoy and they did enjoy it quite a bit. The only reason for my review is we spent 25 dollars on feeding tokens and when my kids tried to turn them in they were told no. Remind you we were there for a couple hours, told no Everytime and I get the animals won't always want to eat. My thought would be don't sell so many feeding tokens if you don't want to over feed the animals. On top of that the employee that was watching over the stingrays was very rude and seemed inconvenienced that we asked her anything. When we went to leave i took the feeding tokens back to the place we purchased them and told her we were not able to feed because we were told no. She told us we can bring them back some other time and feed then but we do not live around hear and would be a very far drive just to turn in tokens we already paid for.
