Bluebird Inn is a historic motel seemingly from the era of motor lodges and early car travel in CA, like many motels in small beachside communities along the coast. The historic main house is restored and the rooms seemingly have been recently renovated and well maintained. For the most important features of any hotel/motel: the mattress on the bed did not hurt our backs. They seem to have the CA low flow "no go" shower heads, but these are counterbalanced by good water pressure. The water temperature on both the sink and the shower has to main settings: burn your face off and freeze your shorts off and are very sensitive to but possible to get the sweet spot in between where the water is just the right temperature. Very importantly, it was super quiet during the night with no street noise, just like when we first moved to the country many years ago. The motel is conveniently located within walking and/or short driving distance to several local restaurants and also trails. Some of the properties in the area are in disrepair, but the overall community seems reasonably safe and lives up to its reputation for beautiful scenery. The parking lot as the historic somewhat small spaces and lot, but there is sufficient parking for the number of rooms. Overall, better than motel 6 and at the higher end of cheap motels. If you can get a good deal like we did on this trip, this is definitely a nice place for a restful trip.

Rooms are dated and walls are thin but it's an older property and I try and support smaller bizes. Love the lobby. Inn closes at 9

Cost efficient. Great location. Nice staff. Very communicative. If you booked thru Expedia... Get ready for a flurry of texts and emails. Crazy frustrating for me as a first timer where an Inn closes at 9pm. Coming from LAX... Plus rental car place.. no way could I make it on time for 9... But... Just let them know you will be late... Arrangements are made in that case. I worried too much about that for nothing. I hauled my luggage up a steep flight of stairs. No one running above me as it's 2 story but the walls here are super thin. I could hear every word of my neighbour next door ... I just put the tv on. There is an area if you must smoke... In the middle where there is a little seating area. It's cute. My view out back from my room... Not good. But that's someone else's junk and not their property. Inside reception by day.. board games. Fireplace. So cute and clean with a grab and go cold breakie and coffee/tea. Parking was tight... Mid May.. I think I got the last spot that night The room has a fridge but no microwave. Shower... Beyond basic with no tub sadly but it did the job and for the price and staff... I think I'd stay here again and recommend. It's not the Ritz but I like supporting family owned businesses.

Picture of room by the door. Took pictures at the end of our stay; disregard the messy bed and towels on floor in the restroom

Cute hotel on Main Street. Room was a bit small and yet roomy. Very clean. I didn't smell cigarette smoke. Very clean restroom and shower. Room had a microwave and mini fridge that wasn't so mini. Also had a coffee machine. Medium size tv mounted on wall. Small closet with luggage rack. A short walk to the east side of town. Took us 15 minutes to walk there. And only 2 minutes to walk the other way towards JJ's Pizza. The registration desk employee was lovely. She was very sweet & informative. Suggested places to eat & things to do. There is no pool or jacuzzi on site. However there is a big firepitt at the front of the hotel. Many guests including myself gathered in the evening. The Inn is small but the grounds are clean. Looks renovated. We had no issues during our visit Will definitely stay there again.

Check in was easy and friendly. Parking was easy. Coffee and granola bars in the lobby in the morning. Fire pit. Fireplace in the lobby with some toys for kids. All of it was good and easy. Room was updated. Plenty of outlets for charging. There were two things that aren't complaints, just preferences: it's a standing shower, which means water gets all over the floor, which drives me nuts (and it's hard to bathe young kids without a tub), and there's no A/C, which means you leave your windows open to cool off, which works well, but everyone who walks by your room (which is a lot of people since the parking is motel-style) can hear every word you say, and you them. For families with young children like us, we had to worry a lot about our kids being too loud, or crying, or being woken up by someone unlocking or locking their car, etc. Next time we'll ask for a room further in the back. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful stay Warm, welcoming lobby with cozy fireplace on inside AND an outside fire pit during the evening to stay warm and sit around the fire with family or friends Also lots of board Games available in the cozy lobby to play around the fire too Rooms met all expectations, even better than expected- super clean, spacious, all the amenities you need 10 out of 10 would recommend Such kind and welcoming staff also, who made local recommendations. Happy to return here again and recommend this!

Great place to stay! This place is in a fantastic location, walking distance to the Main Street here. ( it is surprisingly quiet considering it's right off the main road). The rooms are super clean, the bed is comfortable and the staff are very friendly. I felt very comfortable here, I could feel myself relax completely. They do not have a/c like many of the places here don't as they usually are not needed so keep that in mind if you are someone who needs cold air constantly, they do have a heater and a ceiling fan. They also provide secure wifi. There's a pretty garden in the back and a creek. There's a lot of history in Cambria, this inn is no exception. I would highly recommend this place to anyone coming to Cambria whether it's your first time or your 20th time. I hope to stay here again in the future!

View from outside one of the rooms in the back along the creek. With a patio, it feels like your own extra room!

Really enjoyed the complimentary wine with ocean view and one of my biggest reasons for booking it was due to they accept dogs, which says a lot about an establishment. That being said, there are areas for improvement. When I checked into my room, I noticed that the the dark blinds were stuck so I went to the office to see if they could help. The manager came to my room; tried to lower them and agreed they were stuck. She said she would ask the maintenance person to fix it. A day went by and nobody came by. I was awoken to a bright room early in the morning so my sleep was cut short. I went back the office and the same manager welcomed me with "yeah, what's up"? I highlighted that nobody came by to fix it and she seemed pretty indifferent but said she would request it again. Needless to say, nobody showed up to fix it during my whole stay so I was greeted with shortened sleep thanks to the bright room in the mornings. While I was checking out, I highlighted this to the new manager and she laughed it off, saying that's why she brings blindfolds when she travels. No discount offer or anything. Furthermore, their door key cards are the most sensitive I have ever encountered. I had to have them reprogrammed 3 times during my stay. Also, the owner apparently requested that they close the wine tasting early due to rain so, when I showed up to use my complimentary wine vouchers, I found it closed over an hour earlier than their posted closing time but the server did provide me with the complimentary wine since I was a guest but they were no longer offering food so no marinated olives and nuts to go with it. That being said, the Inn does have a great location; is a value and I love that it is dog-friendly but they do need to work on their customer service. Oh and some more Vegan options and recycling/compost bins would certainly help.

Our window faced the water, but it's not a direct walk-out beach property. Now for the positives, the staff (all of them) were amazing. The rooms are bungalow-style and very clean and spacious. The hotel is pet-friendly $100 fee, and check-in/check-out was easy. The check-in area feels cozy and homey, with couches, chairs, books, and games available. They offer beer, wine, adult beverages (Adult options for your coffee), plus a kitchen and outdoor fireplace sitting area. The hotel is directly across the street from the beach, about a 2-min walk to the water. The room was large and well-stocked with a mini fridge (fees may apply), huge comforters, bathrobes, slippers, a fan, fireplace, shower supplies such as body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, and a sitting chair. There are many additional amenities available for a fee in the room and in their lobby area. In the morning, they deliver a basket with pastries croissants, cinnamon rolls, coffee, orange juice, and champagne, a really nice touch. They also have bikes you can use and go bike riding, corn hole games, picnic benches, There's also an ice maker on-site. Parking spaces are small, so be cautious if you have a lifted truck or wide rims. The area itself is very nice. The hotels along the coastline are set up similarly, facing north and south, so most have somewhat obstructed or no ocean views or direct walk-on beach access. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, Hotel cost wasn't too bad but remember all the hotels in this area do not have walk out beach rooms. Area is very quiet, relaxing, and peaceful, and EVERYONE is pet friendly even with a pitbull breed. Our kids had a blast in the ocean and were able to play board games eat ice cream and enjoy the scenery. there are several benches along the walk path in case you need to sit down and relax. There is small community town about 15min tops. several restaurants and shopping. old town style, very homey. so, if you're looking for a disconnect type of vacation, no party scene, just want peaceful and relaxation, this is the place. I will attach pictures and I do apologize because these were at the end of the trip and not when we first arrived. so, excuse the beds. The hotel was very clean and have hardwood floors.

If I didn't like it I could check out." Note: there was an option to reserve the handicap accessible suite or a regular suite on the website. I had reserved the regular suite. There was no apology, no attempt to rectify the situation. The front desk staff were so cold and heartless. The response of either take it or leave it left in tears. I sent an email Monday morning after we returned home. I have yet to receive a response to my email. Not even a simple acknowledgement and we will look into this and get back to you. We had to find another hotel room at 9 pm on a Friday night. No small venture in Cambria during the summer. Clearly this hotel does not care about their customers especially repeat customers. Needless to say WE WILL NEVER reserve another room here. Do better Cambria Pines Lodge!!! Thanks for ruining my anniversary!!
