Booked last minute with my two year old and we have had a very nice stay. The gentleman at the front desk was super helpful and went out of his way to accommodate us. After driving hours alone with a toddler that kind of gesture makes it all better. The walls and floors are thin. So be prepared for a little bit of noise. I'm used to noise(toddler) so it doesn't bother me Great restaurants in walking distance and the most convenient parking ever. Haven't had breakfast yet but I've heard there will be pastries. We stayed at the bluebird inn in Room 23. Perfect room location with balcony. Loved the fireplace at night with the door open was so relaxing! The location is perfect in town. The staff was very accommodating and welcoming.We absolutely will stay here again. We really liked the artist decor painting on all the walls. The place just had a really nice vibe! Two stars because the rooms are nice. However, if you enjoy hearing sounds all night and being woken up at 7am to loud staff cleaning and talking very loud outside and in the rooms next to you and above you then you'll love this place. I imagine early risers as those that don't hear well would enjoy this place. I'm a light sleeper and it wasnt a good experience for me. I could have gotten over the really thin walls if housekeeping would have been respectful in the am. I did call as well and they told me they would talk to them but it continued. But the rooms are nice, clean rooms, good amenities and nice hot shower. read more

I have to say I have had the worst stay in this Inn then any Hotel/Motel/Motor Lodge or Inn... This place needs to revamp the prices for what kind of service they offer. They don't offer anything including good or OK TP?? I have had better quality TP in Mexico.. Also they don't even offer a phone? If you know cell service is bad why wouldn't you have phones in the rooms?? Also what's up with the 1970's decor, bathrooms, carpet & bedding? For those prices you need to keep up with the times. We spent $122.00 for a king single. It was more valued at around a Motel 6 or a Super 8 @ 49.99 - 69.99.. I have a phobia of lock off doors. The first room had one so I went back to the desk and she offered another one. It also had a door in it? So I went back once more to find out it was a storage closet?? In a room?? I was told it had NO windows or a way in from the outside. So I decided yes to this room. All knight long the door chattered?? The window in the closet that didn't have a window was open.. I was only told this the next morning by the female owner I think? As far as the well being of a customer who didn't sleep very much at all? THEY DIDN'T CARE? We will fix it is all I got?? Thanks for being understanding that your Inn kept me up all night long. I gave then the open door for even just a small portion of the cost refunded but NOTHING. I will have to say I will never tell anyone about this place. Well I lie. I will tell them the truth about my stay... I made a reservation with the hotel on their website. In the comment area I requested a second-floor room, and nothing with pet dander, as my wife is allergic. We arrived on a Friday afternoon at 2:00 to stay one night. As I was checking in, the clerk at the desk just then read my request to the second floor room. No one had looked at it before our check in. There were only two or three cars in the lot of the entire hotel, so I know the rooms were not full. She stated that there were no second-floor rooms available. I guess people had called ahead and specifically reserved certain rooms. We were only offered room seven which is a handicapped room. Other than the handicapped outfit, it was an adequate room, but not modern or nice. The reason we had requested a second-floor room was because of noise problems. We generally go to bed early. The walking noise from the room above room seven kept us awake at least an hour and a half. The floors are very thin and the noise comes through terribly. If I ever need to stay at the Bluebird Inn again, I would make sure to get a second story room. read more

Clean rooms - great location - affordable price! This is a modest old-school motel - not fancy, certainly, but clean and pleasant and comfortable. My friends and I loved staying here - we could walk to restaurants and shops easily! It was perfect. Plus, the price didn't break the bank, even in summer. It was all we had hoped for. Wanted to enjoy a mother's day weekend (may 6-8). Checked in on May 6th (2pm-ish). We walked into our room and immediately saw a sign that stated "out of order" on the fireplace. We thought "no big deal". We enjoyed our day then went into our room #20. As we attempted to sleep, I continued to smell a scent of gas. I ignored it, as we have stayed here for years. As I woke up with a horrific nose bleed and headache on the 7th, I spoke to what I believed was the manager and continued to ask about the smell of gas. As this point, after paying over $600 for a two night "deluxe" suite, we were offered a downgraded to a sub-par #5 room with no heater. We accepted due to not liking nose bleeds for breakfast and we weren't going to let this get in the way of our mothers day weekend as we had a nice time at diners and the ocean. We arrived to our "new" room and continued to smell gas, even though there was no electric fireplace. I spoke to the "manager" and she stated "life is too short, you should be happy" and "you don't have to stay, just leave" as all we did was ask why it smelled like gas. Her answer was " I've only worked here 2 days". Again, this was very concerning as I felt one match could light the place up. I promise I'm not a "Karen". I called the fire department and they evacuated everyone from the hotel (including a pregnant woman) due to the unsafe conditions. Let it be known, all the firefighter signals were going insane and they told us we were in the right to call. The "manager" decided she wanted to step up, call out my service dog, and anything else she deemed we have done wrong instead of help those who trusted this establishment with their well-being. The "manager" stated the owner was "gonna deal with the situation on Monday". When we went to grab our items from the room, the "out of service" sign miraculously disappeared from our room. When asked about the sign, the "manager" stated "it was merely a caution sign and if you wanted to use it, you could have." again, I hope this was a one off and no one had/has to deal with this. I'd rather deal with bedbugs than fear for burning alive. Again, this used to be a place we were excited to visit. Now, never again. I don't write these types of of reviews unless warrented. read more

We loved this place. First we were greeted by the sweetest chocolate lab, Tobey, and then by the the owner. She was so warm and had the most inviting smile. We stayed in a room in the back that bordered the creek. We could hear the frogs and crickets. It is in the center of town but was so quiet. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. If your looking luxury this is not for you. It is cozy clean and quaint. The grounds are beautiful. There is a trail just on the other side of the drive. We needed a room last minute on Thanksgiving and Bluebird Inn had one. They offer AAA member discounts, even though the AAA app may not say so. The feel of the place is small and quaint. The lobby is very homey with a fireplace and tables for card playing or other games. The continental breakfast that was offered was adequate; breads, yogurt, juice, and coffee. We stayed in a standard queen room. It was not spacious by any means but was exactly what we needed. It was clean and comfortable. It's the perfect hotel for a town like Cambria, welcoming. We will definitely be back next time we are in town! read more

Cute, spotless, very affordable little place to stay right in the center of Cambria so you're within walking distance of plenty of cute shops and great food. The beach is just down the road a couple of minutes too. The amenities are on par with a Motel 6 but this place has a lot more character than that. The garden out back is very pretty and it's a nice spot to enjoy the free coffee and pound cake they lay out in the morning. If you're a light sleeper you definitely want to bring some earplugs. The other reviews that mention paper thin walls aren't exaggerating one bit. I forgot mine but that isn't their fault so no markdown for it. Besides 50 cent earplugs vs. the room down the road with thicker walls for an additional 250 bucks and it's obvious which I'd choose. I wouldn't suggest people with children stay here unless the kids are mute or you have no regard whatsoever for your fellow travelers. If someone next door clears their throat, you hear it, so kids stomping around and making the typical kid noises are going to gain you enemy's in pretty short order. I give the Bluebird Inn a solid 3.5 stars and I'll gladly stay there again anytime they have a room available. read more

Cute name, dirty motel. The only thing that drew us to this place was that it was pet friendly... and the only pet friendly place in town. Upon making the reservation, we were verbally told on the phone that we were "guaranteed" the last pet room they had for the night we booked for. When we actually got to the property for check-in, the gentleman was very rude, telling us that's not even notated and they don't have a pet friendly room for us... we were there for one night, been traveling, with two large dogs... and to be told that was one thing but to be told it in the manner we were was another. Next, we get to the room to a bathroom that we had to clean ourselves, the tub was filthy and oh, there was NO fitted sheets on the beds! So we got to sleep on the mattress pad... which is downright disgusting. Working in the hospitality field myself, I took videos and pictures to show the front desk manager in the morning and brought it to her attention. Never got a copy of my receipt at check out because she said she would review it to apply a discount which was never done, had to call the property back to see what had happened and the manager actually said she never remembered our conversation... but I was the only person in the lobby checking out early that AM.... WOW. All I can say is, DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. It's a ripoff for what you get and they do not go out of their way to take care of their guests... will never return. read more

One star for the location ! I wanted to love this hotel but Like I said the location is great walking distance from the shops and restaurants. Our room # 5 was clean and the shower was nice and hot but unfortunately the walls are paper thin and in the room above us there was a child or two that stomped their feet until they finally fell asleep. I complained about it to the girl with the nose pierced at the front desk ( I can't remember her name) she didn't seem to care! She probably gets these types of complaints all the time . I asked her if we could change rooms , and she said no . We are almost sold out and I only have 3 rooms available for walk in customers. I thought that's was a pretty lame excuse!! It really sucks when you pay a bunch of money for a room and you get your ceiling stomped all night . I will not return to this hotel and I do not recommend it either!! Cute, quaint, walking distance to downtown. The walls are very thin. I was awoken at midnight to some drunk men wrestling outside my door. Then sat around listening to a family bicker with their teenagers for about 20 min. I finally got out of bed, asked them to keep it down due to the thin walls. Luckily these folks were kind enough to quite down. The mattress is firm (I prefer softer pillow top) and the pillows are flat. Both my arms went numb from sleeping on the uncomfortable mattress. The gardens are lovely. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I would return for an affordable stay with my kids. Probably not for a quiet, romantic getaway with my husband. The 'breakfast' was just a few slices of sweet bread. Nothing filling, so plan on going out to eat or bring something along. read more

Like another reviewer said as well, miserably hot room. We booked a room, arrived, paid, saw the room, and then tried to cancel right away. They denied us a refund. The website explicitly said "individual climate control" in each room. It was a ceiling fan! Why did it not say "ceiling fan in each room"? On a 90 degree day in August, they need to offer refunds or be fined for this sort of blatant, false advertising. (They have since taken that off the website, but only because we said we would contact the Better Business Bureau. The Bluebird owners have ignored all requests to speak to the BBB and to repsond. The BBB has noted this.) Sleazy practices. Steer clear from the Bluebird Inn unless you want to be ripped off. Cambria is a cute town with other places to stay. Or, sad to say, but get in the car and drive out to the freeway chain hotels to be treated the way a hotel guest should be treated and eat dinner in Cambria. What a shame that this place has not been reprimanded. read more

Right on Main Street, but super quiet (at least my room was). The room was comfortable and I slept well. Easy walk to many restaurants and shops. Grounds of the Inn were so well kept and really pretty. Plenty of outdoor cozy spots to sit and reflect. I would stay again if in the area. read more

Clean and cozy. No phones in the room which sucked because you can't get any service on your cell phone in this area. They do have a nice little sitting area in the back of the inn, where you can sip your coffee, and listen to the stream fall over the rocks and stones. Very relaxing in soothing. The fact that we continue to come here year after year is confirmation of what we think of the hotel and staff, which we've found to be very friendly! We recommend paying a bit more than the standard room price to get a room overseeing the back of the property- you won't regret it. Clean and adequate. We upgraded to a balcony room with a fireplace. There is a nice babbling brook that runs behind the motel and some trails and seating in the gardens below. I guess I shouldn't have gone with the cheapest room. The view out of the front was the parking lot. When I went in the room I was surprised to find a ceiling fan, I think it's the only time I've ever seen one in a motel before. Also the room was clean. OK, that's the upside. I've never been in a motel that didn't have a desk and chair. Nope, not in the cheap room I had. It was one of the smallest room I've ever been in. I couldn't get the remote to work with the TV, when I complained the young woman at the desk she came to my room and told me that it was the TV, that I had to turn it on and change the volume from the TV itself. Later I found out it was the remote and I got a new one that worked perfectly. read more

Nice place to relax and catch up on your rest from the road, then stumble upon your own unexpected tourist attraction at moon stone beach and see the histiry of the town. Now As you check in you are greeted with smiles and old American charm. Then spend your night in a cozy room and a decent bed, luxurious but overall the room and price are great. But, this place has a hidden SECRET GARDEN and CREEK behind the building. Grab complimentary coffee and a coffee cake and enjoy the great garden hidden on the backside of the BlueBird Inn. What a nice spot. I recommend it... Ask for an upstairs "King" room. I recommend rooms 8-12. Make sure you hit the town/ocean in time for sunset. Also on the way off the 101 plenty of wineries to stop at. This place has a great fire pit just in front to hangout and bring your bottle of wine. The room was nice and large and had a remodeled bathroom. The log house/check-in is really neat too. Fireplace was on and plenty of places to relax there and mingle with the guest. Very close to the beach and you can just stroll down Main Street to the shops and restaurants each way. You're basically in the middle of Main Street. Great location and great price for the area. Just carbs for breakfast but there are plenty of places to eat here in town, from pubs to charming small town coffee shops and quaint restaurants. Was a great trip here and would for sure stay here again. read more

This place used to be our 'go to' place in Cambria. I even held a family reunion with over 30 people there in 2018. Never again. Their customer service has gone downhill since Missy left. And they nickel and dime you. Extra $10 per person for a room with two double beds. That's almost as much as a two queen room. Devin at the front desk said they had new rules. I have walked by this cute little hotel on main street multiple times for several months. Very cute, lots of parking and always singing birds! Checking in was a breeze, and when i saw our room i about melted! Very sweet room with a sit in closet area, small bathroom with shampoo etc. Fridge, microwave, bigger flat screen tv. 2 sitting chairs, carpeted floor(very nice for people with cold feet like me!) And to top it off, the fan with light has a dimmer switch!! Extra blankets in closet as well. Room is very cosy and homey. Would deff stay here again, and great weekend price as well! Close enough to both main street eats or a grocery store. Outdoor fire pit and outdoor seating, great for eating outside with friends!! Lots of parking as well. read more

I see why this place gets such high ratings, our room was perfect, the bedroom was a nice size and it even had a gas fireplace that kept the room and the exact temperature, the weather was cool and very windy, the bathroom has been upgraded and they were vey clean. We had a patio that overlooked the most gorgeous scenery with a stone walk way all of the flowers, trees and bushes were in bloom and there were so beautiful we only sat outside for a while, like I said it was cool and wind but we were able to enjoy it from the inside. The seafood was awesome, everyone in the town eats out cause we say the same people every morning for breakfast, real friendly people, Hearst castle was very near by. It looked very nice on the outside, but the room was about as spartan as they come. Yes it had a bed and a tv and a bathroom, but absolutely no frills whatsoever. The shower was the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars. It was large and plenty of hot water. The bed was hard and cold, 2 skimpy little covers, and I couldn't get the heater to go on. The worst though was the noise. The conversation in the next room (though they were talking in a normal tone of voice) was so clear that I felt I could join in at any time. Could the walls have been thinner? I think not. The breakfast in the morning was a joke. Someone needs to tell them that a couple of tired little pieces of pound cake and coffee in a styrofoam cup do not make a breakfast. Oh, I guess I just did! read more
