We SO enjoyed staying at the Blue nose Inn! It was tucked into the beautiful Acadia National Park and we had a gorgeous view of the Atlantic ocean. Breakfast at the Looking Glass restaurant was delicious and truly lived up to the online reviews. Hopefully, we will be able to return to this beautiful place sometime. I had an excellent stay at the Bluenose Inn these past few days! We stayed in the mizzentop building and were really impressed with our room! The huge room included a patio with a beautiful view of Mt Dessert Narrows and early morning sunsets. I loved the class that went into decorating the room. The real wood furniture, classy light fixtures, yet modern amenities (usb charging ports, key rig, fridge, microwave, etc) really made the room feel upscale yet homey. The room was very clean and I slept very well in that comfy bed! If you have a chance, spend some time in the Great Room listening to Bill Trowell, the pianist who plays most nights. Bring a snack with you, or buy a drink at the bar. Although we didn't have a chance to use them, there was an outdoor pool and a fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs that's lit nightly. There's also an indoor pool and fitness center. Next door, is the Looking Glass restaurant which serves a good breakfast with a beautiful view. The only negatives of the hotel (in my opinion) are a few minor things: 1. The rooms use an actual key (not a card). 2. It's kinda far from the walkable area of Bar Harbor. 3. The hot water for the bathtub took forever to heat up, and also get dangerously hot, so use caution!! 4. It seems like (from the other reviews) that the other building, Stenna Nordica, might not have rooms as nice as those in the Mizzentop building, but I don't know for sure since I didn't have a chance to see those rooms. So to be safe, book a mizzentop room. Overall, I would highly recommend staying here if you're ok with staying a few minutes outside of town, and enjoy beautiful views of the water from the comfort of your own private porch. read more

This hotel was an unexpected surprise. The rooms were huge and the beds were extremely comfortable. There was a seating area and fireplace in the room as well. We had our own private balcony overlooking the beautiful scenery which was the icing on the cake. Bluenose Inn is conveniently located just on the edge of Bar Harbor so you don't have the crazy traffic of downtown. The staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable. If you go on the off season it's even affordable. They have both indoor and outdoor pools, a piano bar/lounge, and a nice sized gift shop. I would highly recommend this hotel! read more

We stayed at the Bluenose Inn in late August. The room was huge, the bed comfortable, our top floor room had a balcony overlooking the bay where we had a great view of the sunrise. For me the best part was the bar. An expansive room with lots of glass, a huge fireplace, a very tall coffered ceiling, groupings of plush upholstered chairs and couches and an amazing bar and bar back. Sure, the bar is beautiful, but the pianist is absolutely amazing! Bill Trowell is Everything from Beethoven to the Beatles. Bill is a must see in Bar Harbor! read more

Truthfully we loved our stay here at the Bluenose Inn. We were in the Stenna Nordica building, but we had a room on the 1st floor that had a pool view (and indirectly a Mt Desert Narrows view). The room was clean - most important thing - and had the essentials we needed. Plenty of charging outlets, a nice breakfast table, and comfortable beds. Of course, it's not the fanciest of hotels, but that's a part of of the charm in Acadia. You also get a couple chairs on the common balcony so you can relax, sip a cup of coffee, and enjoy the nature. I personally enjoyed the Great Hall with the pianist and the bar to relax after a long day of hiking. Also clutch to have a water refilling station there too. I'd come back here if I have the chance in the future. read more

I have no idea how the Bluenose Inn is able to charge a premium over basic economy lodges in Bar Harbor. I booked on short notice and after striking out at 8 other places, this is where I ended up. The descriptions on the website coupled with the plethora of reviews on Trip Advisor do not reflect the fact that the "Stenna Nordica" building is not in any way a 4-star accommodation nor is it deserving of the AAA four-diamond rating. My room was outdated with random improvements bolted on. The view was great, sleep quality was above average, but it's a motel on stilts with a shared dual-purpose balcony/walkway. There is breakfast in the morning if you want to walk up a huge hill, for everything else you have to head downtown. If you want to walk downtown, the walkway that cuts across what could be a beautiful, grand lawn is poorly landscaped/lighted with outgrowths and tree stumps that they never paid to have properly removed. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. I overlooked some "run-of-the-mill" options as being below my standards but I don't see how this property could have been any more generic. read more

We stayed in the part of the inn structured more like a motel, which was only an issue because you couldn't leave the drapes open unless you like people looking into your room. It was overcast, which made the room pretty dark and dreary. However the room was spacious and the water pressure was wonderful! We also enjoyed the spectacular view from the dining room at breakfast every morning. You should also be aware that the inn is a decent walk to the center of town, which we made several times because in town parking was not easy to find. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. read more

We really enjoyed the Bluenose Inn, specifically the Stenna Nordica building. My pet peaves with nearly every hotel I've stayed in (high end and lower) were all addressed here and not an issue: bedside lamps with working 3-way bulbs!, two chairs not just one, great shower head and water pressure, quiet a/c unit, name brand coffee pods for the keurig, thick towels. My wife and I stayed a night at the Bayview, then 2 nights down the road at the BlueNose, and the comparison was very interesting. Same King room, similar size, at each place. Each place advertises itself as a 4 star property, and they are 2/10 of a mile apart. Posting this review for both properties. Price: The Bayview room was almost twice as expensive -- over $800 a night vs $450 a night at the Blue Nose. Winner: BlueNose by a mile. Property amenities: The Bayview had an outdoor pool. No elevator, which made dragging big bags ip stairs a major headache. Free parking. No fitness center. No laundry. By contrast, the BlueNose had indoor and outdoor pool, an elevator, free parking, a fitness center with steam room, laundry, and bikes. Both properties had very nice people working at the desk but the lobby area/gift shop at BlueNose is nicer. There's a free Bar Harbor shuttle bus that takes you to town and stops next door to the BlueNose, it does not go to Bayview. BlueNose also has roof deck bar. BlueNose has a clear edge. . Rooms: The rooms were similar. Both properties featured large rooms, both clean and fairly modern. The BlueNose had slightly nicer furniture, a room safe, a fireplace, massage chair, and bathrobes (none of those for Bayview). Both had a room fridge. Both had nice ocean views and balconies, the Blue Nose is a little further away from the water but a little closer to town. Overall, slight edge to BlueNose. BlueNose by a nose. Overall: Not even close. The Bayview is a plain, three star property marketing itself as four star and charging 5 star prices...it's a perfectly ok place to stay but waaaaay overpriced. The BlueNose is more in line with prices of other area hotels, a better property and a much better value. read more

Rooms are a nice size, and the bath towels are a sensible size , especially if you shop in the big and tall department. The "great room ", features a fabulous piano player, drinks that are generous, a fireplace and an atmosphere that couldn't be more relaxing. I can't say enough good things about this amazing hotel. We came here off season (by 2 weeks) for our honeymoon. We were fortunate to receive an upgrade to the 4th floor with a king bed from the 2nd floor 2 queens we had booked. However, all the rooms over look the bay. So have no fear of staying on a lower floor. It's on a hill and you'll have a view! The room was very nice. Yes the upholstery is a bit dated, but just in look. It's all well cared for and comfortable. It's not a pillowtop mattress but the linens were very nice. The bathroom had a wonderful rain shower head with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Our bathroom had double sinks, a lighted makeup mirror, and a blow dryer was in the closet along with robes. Room service was amazing. Left new soaps and shampoo daily. Restocked the k-cups (great room feature) daily. Oh, besides the Keurig there is a fridge and microwave. Desk staff was super friendly. We needed a bottle opener and the guy brought it to us, beyond what was expected. Of course the amazing lady at check in who upgraded our room deserves her own page in our scrapbook. My ONLY complaint, the continental breakfast. Just be prepared. It's not fancy and there isn't a lot of it. We wanted to save a few bucks and eat in one morning and at 830 there was literally 1 egg and cereal left. So budget breakfast into your trip. We went to 3 local places and Jordan's was by far the best, just FYI. All in all, you will love your stay at Bluenose. There is an outdoor pool, indoor pool and hot tub as well as a full service spa. We have been at the Bluenose Inn several times in the past. Main "selling point": the view from the rooms on the forth floor of the Mizzentop building onto frenchman bay is just outstanding, with and without cruise ships between all the rocks. They do have some nice sized junior suites. Small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine. Most service staff are friendly. Everything is well maintained. Indoor and outdoor pool, ample parking. The hotel is only opened for the season and the prices reflect this. read more

Love staying here whenever we head out to Acadia National Park. It's just a mile away from all the noise and lights of downtown Bar Harbor, which in my view makes it the perfect location for a hotel. An easy bike ride away from the park and the hub of downtown Bar Harbor. The rooms are always clean, bright and well-apportioned. This hotel also features nightly performances by pianist, Bill Trowell, who is one of the most talented, charming and kind guys around. We often try to make it back to the hotel early just to hear him play and tell his stories. The indoor and outdoor pools are also both flawless. My only complaint is the lack of a food menu and a proper bartender during the nightly Bill Trowell performances. read more

As previous reviews stated, staying at this hotel is like getting in a time machine to the 80s. For whatever reason this hotel just has the vibe going on with the decor, the location and the general style. The farm style gate has leads up the hill to the Bluenose complex which has the Mizzentop building with the main office, larger suites and great room; a fitness and indoor swimming pool hall, the major living building with motel style rooms facing the ocean. While the mizzentop rooms have balconies with a fantastic view of the Atlantic and Bar Harbor. All rooms have 2 chairs just outside and we enjoyed the sea breeze and cool air. There is a restaurant on the complex but we didn't try it. In general the staff was friendly and the rooms were clean and modernized where it counts. The bathroom and appliances abandoned that 80s charm for modern comfort. The beds were comfortable and without any strange creaking noises. The water pressure in the bath was excellent. The free breakfast wasn't great, but was acceptable, coffee and tea, yogurt, muffins, pastries, sausage and eggs- more than enough for an amazing day in Acadia nationalchai park. The room was shockingly spacious; we were confused when we entered the room it had so much room. Two additional plush chairs and a table made a little windowside seating inside. A booklet of menus from dozens of restaurants in downtown bar harbor was also included- which was very useful for scouting out where to eat in advance. A pianist Bill Trowel plays nightly in the great room during the summer season. The room's guest directory had information from Acadia National Park, to History of the Hotel, to FACTS ABOUT WHALES, to where to buy packaged lobster for travel. If in Bar Harbor looking for a Charming and reasonably priced hotel/motel, definitely give this place a try. read more

This hotel made for a pleasant accommodations while we were stayed at Bar Harbor but I just don't think it's worth the cost. If the price were half of what it was I would probably give it 4 stars but for the price my expectations were definitely not met. If we ever get back to Bar Harbor we will definitely try to stay in a hotel that is closer to downtown. The downtown are is a very walkable town and it would have been so much nicer to just go outside and walk to our destination instead of having to constantly get in our car and drive around looking for parking (we were there in August and parking was always a 5 - 15 minute quest). There is nothing really terrible about the Bluenose Inn, it's just that there were so many other places that were closer and looked nice (or nicer) and were not nearly as expensive. read more

Loved this place. Fantastic service from the minute we walked in the door. Pros: 1) EXTREMELY clean. Seriously, I loved that our room was spotless and you could smell/feel the clean 2) The oversized rooms were absolutely fantastic. Tons of counter space, very spacious room living area, and a large bathroom. 3) Extremely quiet. 4) Great service. The front desk staff was very professional and kind. Also, before we arrived, we had requested extra pillows in our room. We were very pleased to see them in our room when we got there without having to ask twice. Cons: 1) Let me be straight up; this place looks like a retirement home. Seriously, the decor made me laugh out loud!!! Basically, it's like you travelled back in time to the 80s! From the matching floral patterns of the wingback chairs, curtains, and pillows, to the pink carpets. The lamps are all whimsical like the lamps you had to throw out when your grandmother died because they were so gawdy. read more

Having just recently stayed at Bluenose Inn, I hate to say that I was very disappointed. I booked this room because I understood this to be a cut above, but it was not superior to an efficiency hotel room (but for the size of the room). For $400 per night, I expected clean carpets, updated rooms and a bit better breakfast. The hotel kind of feels like it's not thriving, and is extremely outdated-and not in the quaint, stepping back in time, way-in the "hasn't been updated since 1982" way. That said, the staff were very nice and attentive and the hotel was generally very clean (except the carpets.) everything worked (air conditioning, etc) and it was functional. Its just that the rate and the experience just didn't match. read more

Just returned from our stay at the Bluenose Inn....the quality of the room did not match the price. It was shabby looking with wallpaper peeling off the walls in several places, the light fixture over the vanity had a short in it and the faucet in the tub had a steady stream of water running all the time. It had been running for a long time because there was a rust mark on the tub.....ironically, they ask you to help conserve water by using your towel more than once but don't fix a very obvious problem. Also, we booked a queen size bed many months ago but we got a room with 2 doubles and no explanation. As another reviewer stated the carpet needed cleaning and the room it self was not superior to an efficiency hotel room. Way over priced for the quality. We will not be back. read more

Bar Harbor tends to take it guests for granted and the Bluenose Management is no different. Front line staff are nice - but they can't make up for Management that views guests as an inconvenience they have to tolerate. Once you're out of the (very nice) lobby you're in a tired motel room with old wall to wall carpet, dinged furniture, drafty doors and a rattling air conditioner. Flies in the lobby didn't surprise me but how do you get flies in a motel room in late September? Don't complain though - because that's when you'll find out what Management thinks of you. It can be the little things - made coffee in In the room and the creamers curdled - yes they were expired. Woke up to an odd vibration - a moth trying to land on a curtain rod. I'm traveling for work - they did not honor our very valid corporate rate. read more

If it was reasonably priced, I could understand but at a discounted rate of $219/night, I was disgusted. It's a bit like a new-but-kinda-crappy apartment complex on the outside and a bit like a 3-star hotel from the '80s on the inside. Flower patterns and hokey lamps mixed with perfectly nice layouts, fireplaces (optional), and nice views of the parade of cruise ships (water view also optional). Unfortunately, our visit started off on a mediocre foot when Cullen at the front desk spent five minutes bitching to another employee about some people who had gone up to check on a room prior to signing some paperwork and not come back for 35 minutes. He complained about their stupidity to this other employee, who eventually called their room and rudely instructed them to return to the front desk and sign their paperwork. All of this while we stood there, waiting to check in. I'd have waited longer if I'd have known that Cullen had truly poor hygiene and genuinely offensive breath. The whole time that he was running through the ridiculous list of teaser coupons and showing us the hand-signed letter from the manager, I couldn't wait to get out of range of his breath. There are mints on the counter. Use them. The room itself was innoffensive, decently appointed, and clean, complete with the sort-of-cheesy tips-for-the-cleaning-staff envelope. If I want to leave a tip (and I did), I'll do it without the prompting, thanks. The cleaning staff are nice, parking is easy, and the view is alright (though there were cruise-ships non-stop). When we checked out late (by request), and were standing in the hall after leaving our room, I heard an angry bark come over the radio to the cleaning crew to "make sure that they're out of their room!" Seriously, it was five minutes after our checkout time, the key was already locked in the room (as we were instructed to do), and we were in the hall. For $300/night? You've got to be kidding me. Fix the front-desk service, and the rest of the mediocrity could be forgiven. Still, if you're staying in the area, stay somewhere cute. Simply, stay somewhere else. read more

The grounds are not anything to write home about- many other hotels in the harbor area have better views, better prices, and activities nearby. This hotel is AAA approved.....why I have no idea?!!!! We love returning to the bluenose, and prefer to stay in the Nordica building because we are there to ride our bikes and hang out in bar harbor, weather permitting we have enjoyed the outdoor pool. Evening piano lounge is special for those of us who enjoy the standards w atmosphere. Active folks can walk into town but it's on the side of a hill w great views so we drive. Across the road us the College of the Atlantic. Just a short drive to Acadia entrances and parking for our bike rides or up Cadillac mountain. We appreciate the excellent management and comfort here. read more

The Bluenose Inn is situated on Route 3 between the downtown Village of Bar Harbor and the Acadia Park visitor center at Hull's Cove. For travelers planning to experience both Bar Harbor and the beauty of the park (like me), the Bluenose is a very good choice. My room ($200 for double queen in July) was comfortable but not luxurious. There was a motel-style exterior hallway. The large windows right next to the door offered decent views of the water, but also passing hotel guests. Beds are a matter of personal preference, and I found mine adequate. The room was neither cavernous nor cramped. Everything was quite clean. One slight annoyance was the creakiness of the building itself. We could hear every stirring from the guests directly above us, as the wooden building would creak with each footstep. Fortunately, after a long day on our feet in the natural splendor of Acadia, nothing could prevent my slumber. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, but surprisingly little literature on Acadia was on hand. Luckily, the nice lady at the front desk was eager to describe the can't-miss points of interest on the island. Overall, the Bluenose is a comfortable hotel with friendly staff but no particular charm or character. You'll get clean rooms but nothing over the top. I'm satisfied if not blown away. read more
