Our stay at the Harborside Hotel was very relaxing and if you want a hotel with beautiful views... this is the place for you. All of the staff were super friendly and accommodating from the moment we pulled into the parking lot to all of fhe restaurant staff being super kind with letting us order dessert pretty close to the time when their kitchen was closing (thank you). We did not opt for a "ocean view" room so we did have a view of the parking lot, but lucky enough that if we just turned right we could see the entire ocean. Our room also had an outdoor patio so you can sit out there and just enjoy the air and the Maine views. The outdoor area where the pool and hot tub are located is absolutely beautiful, with a breathtaking view of the ocean. It is sooo beautiful out there on the back patio area and there is plenty of lounging furniture. Would definitely suggest for an upscale little getaway! And if you do visit, try the tiramisu for dessert, it was so good!!! :) read more

Beautiful room, with view, jacuzzi off of our room & location was great! I gave it 4 stars because the staff was ok, the room service was awful and delivered our food in plastic containers. The food was cold and late. They refunded our breakfast but the plastic and cold food left a bad taste. We also tried to make a couples massage and they only had 2 male masseuse and one female masseuse. Not practical for such a large hotel. The grounds were beautiful and can host large parties and everything is within walking distance. Not sure I would stay here again because it was an ok stay. read more

The beds were comfortable and the rooms were nicely decorated. That kept me from giving the hotel a 2 instead of a 3. Here's what was not good: 1) The walls were so thin I could easily hear conversations in the next room and in the hallway. Not to mention the barking dog and slamming of doors that could not be closed gently. 2) They should not have charged a $35 resort fee when there were no real amenities offered. For example, the 2 weight rooms in the hotel and at the spa club house had basic equipment but the weights were insufficient for my husband. The only other amenities offered without an additional fee were tennis and the swimming pools but they were still closed because we were there in April, still the off-season. 3) The La Bella Vita restaurant food was mediocre and definitely not worth the inflated prices charged. Not to mention, our waiter didn't even know what a Chianti red wine was even though he was working at an Italian restaurant. 4) The outdated wall room heater and air conditioner was way too loud and we couldn't hear the TV without turning it up (I'm sure our neighbors could hear). But at least it helped drown out the neighbors and the barking dog. And can't imagine what they charge for rooms during peak tourist season but I definitely won't be back to find out. read more

This place is terrible. I really regret taking my family here. Went here about a month ago and paid a lot of money for a room that was dark and dingy (none of our swimming clothes dried which means the room is too damp and moist). My entire family's eczema flared severely to levels we've never experienced (has gotten better now) which makes me wonder if there was a mold issue in the room or hotel. Either way I was severely disappointed with the stay and really regret staying here. There were nice things about the location of the hotel but I would say not worth the price and clearly it's not clean. read more

The grounds at this hotel are gorgeous. Parking is actually limited as they ran out of spots on two of our 3 nights. That's a problem. The 2 pool areas are beautiful, staff very nice, and many beautiful views. Our room was not one of the fancy ones. Had a king bed, a pullout sofa, and a nice outdoor deck. Oddly, all of the room decks are connected, so anyone on that side of the hotel can enter your area. The room itself was pretty commonplace. A little disappointing for the price. What a beautiful location. Was there for a conference and felt a fortunate to stay in such a beautiful place. My room was on the lower level with a walkout direct to the walking bath around the ocean wall. Watching the boats come in and out and the fog roll across the water was really relaxing. We also had many of our events at the conference center and the staff was truly accommodating of all our requests. Only detractor for me was the shower was kind of dirty looking in the grout. I'm sure it wasn't actually dirty but it was definitely gross to look at. Despite that, great experience and beautiful place. read more

Bottom Line: Great location and amenities but a pricy option. My husband and I visited Bar Harbor for the first time and we decided to make it luxurious with a Premium King Ocean (really Bay) Front Room with Hot Tub. We loved the large room that had seating for four plus a little table for two. The king bed was comfy and the bathroom was a good size. The decor was lovely too. The real treat was sitting on the balcony in the quaint hot tub for two. It was very foggy for a lot of our visit so we didn't get to enjoy the views as much as we'd hoped. Regarding the hotel in general we loved the location and being able to take a short walk to many local restaurants and shops. Also, we were able to get into Acadia National Park quickly from the hotel. A high end hotel has high end bath products and Harborside delivered with Nest products. Also, I like that the bar of soap was a good size. As a frequent traveler I appreciate the details. There is a daily resort fee and we didn't really use the amenities beyond the laundry room. It was really nice to be able to wash our hiking clothes before heading to our next destination. The hotel also provided laundry detergent and fabric softener. The hotel was clean - the room, the hot tub and the common spaces. I'm sure the lobby gets a lot of foot traffic and it seems like the hotel was working hard to keep it clean. Also, I appreciate that Harborside Hotel offers daily housekeeping. So many hotels I stay in still are not offering daily cleanings due to COVID or sta A minor nit but the ice machine nearest our room wasn't working the three times I tried it. When I asked the front desk for other options they told me I could go try the other machines and where to find them. That was an ok response but a better answer would have been to offer to bring me ice OR note where I could find ice. Anyway, I never did go on the scavenger hunt to find ice. Coincidentally, two days later at another hotel I asked the front desk where to find ice and she said, "We'd be glad to bring you ice or you find the machine by room 302" - which was the gold standard response in my opinion. And I must close with my usual hotel caveat - Hotels are a little tricky for me to rate because there is a direct correlation between my rating and the price I paid.  But rates can vastly differ depending on the time of the year, day of the week and special events. Even in the shoulder season this hotel was pricy but I would consider it for a future visit. read more

My wife and I came to Bar Harbor Maine for the first time and the Harborside Hotel and spa is a beautiful place to stay. The workers have all been extremely friendly and accommodating. The room is clean and we love the view. The heated pool and hot tube are great. Met a lot of really nice people. I would recommend this hotel. My only comment is I get up very early, around 4am and my wife sleeps late. I try not to wake her so I get up and out of the room. There is no coffee in the lobby and none of the breakfast/ coffee shops open until 6:30, so you have to wait for the restaurant to open at 7am to get some. read more

There were a ton of pro's and con's with staying here. The price you pay is 100% due to the location. Which is absolutely stunning. You have access to two pools and spas too! The staff was super attentive and even gives you a # to text with any questions or problems. The interior of the building really really really needs some work to align with the outside of it. The place was clean but definitely retro. We did have a few issues - at first we rented a suite with a promised patio or balcony. We were given a corner room overlooking a pool that was incredibly noisy and no patio or balcony. I reached back out to the front desk and they moved us. But did feel slighted when I asked for upgrades all week and they told me they were sold out. Second issue- the amount of families with children unattended is insane. The lobby looked like grand central station at all times. Definitely not a place I'd recommend for folks who want peace and quiet. Third - we were told if the dog sign was on the door the staff wouldn't enter the room. They tried to and clearly my dog was upset about someone trying to come in and the staff wrote a note saying they were too scared to come in. The best part about this hotel is the location to the water, downtown and attentive staff. read more

Harborside hotel did not disappoint. The location was perfect, the views were spectacular, and the rooms were modern and clean. We had a partial view of the water and a balcony. My children enjoyed spending time in the pool area watching the sunset. The staff was friendly and attentive. One of the best things about this location is how close it is to downtown Bar Harbor. We had a vehicle, but did not need it as the everything was within walking distance. Be sure to walk across to the island during low tide. It was definitely a highlight for us. Beautiful area to get family photos. Keep your eyes peeled for celebrities. We met Mike Wolf from American Pickers in the lobby area! He was a really nice guy, and raved about the hotel as well. We stayed for an event. The property is gorgeous. Immaculately maintained and very clean. The staff are all amazing and friendly. The catered event next door at the Harborside Club was really nice. The outdoor patio overlooking the ocean at sunset was magical. The food during the event was delicious. Our room was very comfortable and luxurious. We had a marble bathroom with separate tub and shower. The hot tub overlooking the ocean on our private patio was our favorite part. Highly recommend everything about this hotel. read more

paying almost 800 dollars a night for my room , I had water from the jacuzzi on the deck above me running down on my chairs and patio below. I called the front desk and was told maintenance would take care of it as I watched run through the deck above. I was very upset - who knows what is in that water and was told it was treated with chemicals. The water finally stopped falling on my chairs and patio . They brought me a new cushion for my chair.I told the manager it was not acceptable that there was this type of problem in a hotel that cost this much money for a room. She offered to comp the resort fee. I said I wanted comp for my third night and she offered about half. Not acceptable for a hotel of this caliber. I rarely leave bad reviews but feel that for what I am paying for my room should be compensated for at least the last night. The manager was very defensive and not apologetic for this situation at all. read more

Harborside isn't the cheapest hotel in Bar Harbor but I got a pretty good deal online and decided to pull the trigger. We'd be living out of suitcases the majority of our east coast road trip so, having a nicer place to set down for a few days, seemed like it was worth the splurge. First off, the view is awesome. As the name implies, you're right on the Harbor and it made for a wonderful view of the ocean, the boats, and the lobster fishing in the area. It was a quick walk to the land bridge to Harbor Island, too! It also has a really nice pool and hot tub on the premises (that are both open until 11pm) and across the parking lot guests have access to the Bar Harbor Spa which also has a fantastic pool and hot tub along with full service poolside bar featuring some some snacks and tropical drinks. We spent an afternoon here one day and it was a nice, relaxing break during a trip that was mostly a lot of running around. Our room was huge and the king sized bed was beyond comfy. The room was also quite clean and wifi was solid. Room service is provided by their in house Italian restaurant and one night we ordered pizza and watched Netflix in bed and it was great. A few small cons: This place is huge and KIND of confusing. It took us forever to find our room because we made the mistake of leaving the premises to move our car (the parking lot is nice, tho!) and grab our luggage. It took us a good 20 minutes to find our room when entering from the back because the 1st floor isn't the ground floor in the back. But once we got it figured out we were fine. It's an older hotel and you could kind of tell in a few instances. Like my nightstand next to my side of the bed was cracked in the corner and hastily repaired with some wood glue. The bench at the foot of the bed was also broken and couldn't take more weight than my suitcase lest it collapse into a pile of broken splinters. Not sure I'd pay full price to return here but if I got the same deal we had before I'd more than happily return to Harborside for another visit. read more

A great place to settle in for a relaxing stay in Bar Harbor. We spent a lot of time searching for a hotel in Bar Harbor and almost changed destinations based on the disappointing results. Harborside Hotel was really the only acceptable option we found for less than $500 a night. Other options in town seemed to be horribly outdated or horribly expensive. The location was perfect for everything we wanted to do during our stay. Both entrances we used to access Acadia National Park were less than a five minute drive. All of the restaurants and shopping in town are within walking distance. Many great restaurant options start just across the street from hotel. In the same parking lot there is a booth to purchase whale watching tours. Harborside Hotel has all of the amenities that one would expect from a resort. A pool and hot tub are located on site and guests are also given access to the pool and hot tub at the club next door. On the first floor are a gym that is sufficient and a laundry room that is complementary for guests. A restaurant and bar are just off of the lobby. On site is a spa as well. The parking lot provides ample parking and the distance from the parking lot to the rooms is short. Our room had plenty of space to comfortably spread out for several days that included a large seating area. The bathroom was also large and well stocked with towels and toiletries. The room was clean and each day the room was nicely tidied up for us while we were out doing our activities. A coffee maker and small refrigerator are included. The rooms are not the most modern, but for Bar Harbor they are some of the nicer rooms in town. Overall, we had a lovely stay at Harborside Hotel. It was a comfortable spot to spend a week and enjoy the area. read more

This hotel is seriously overrated. We stayed in this hotel because of a maintenance problem at a hotel we had booked. They booked us into this hotel, or we would never have stayed here because of the price. The bed was comfortable, but the sheets barely fit on it. We had to work really hard to get them on enough that they wouldn't come off in the middle of the night. The toilet paper holder in the bathroom was broken and came apart every time you tried to get some toilet paper. The door into the room had gaps along the bottom and sides that let in a lot of light, which wasn't a huge deal, except that it also meant you heard every conversation that took place in the hall. There was a fireplace in the main lobby. A lovely touch, except that we woke up in the morning with our room smelling like a campfire. I like a good campfire, I just don't expect an expensive hotel room to smell like one. I looked at the cost of booking the room (since we didn't pay for it). It was over $500. We got better rooms at a small fraction of that price on this trip. Move on, weary traveler. Do not spend this kind of money for an average (at best) hotel. read more

AMAZING service! The hotel staff, especially Callie & Bri at the front desk, went above and beyond to make our stay as memorable as possible. The rooms were clean, had wonderful views (our party had 3 rooms; oceanside king room, 1 bedroom suite w/ hot tub, and ocean view on the parking lot side--which was still beautiful). All the staff (except for the restaurant servers) were friendly and polite. Jorge helped us move luggage to and from several rooms and always did so with a smile and lovely conversation. On top of it all, the grounds are enormous and beautiful. There are 2 pool and hot tubs, one on the side of sunrise and the other overlooking the sunset. There are another 4 hot tubs on top of another building, providing additional views of the water. We couldn't recommend this hotel enough. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights. We arrived late Thursday night and we were unable to find parking near our room so had to park in a different lot. There were no trolleys around for the luggage which made unpacking the car at 9:30PM a little tiring. The room was absolutely beautiful! We stayed in an oceanfront king bedroom. The pillows were TERRIBLE! They are very soft and have no support so bring your own pillows if that's important to you. The porch was nice but a little dirty but it's outside so can't complain too much. The TV is older so you won't be able to screencast or watch any apps on it without HDMI hookups to your computer, iPad, or iPhone. LOTS of outlets and charging ports throughout the room. The AC is very loud. One of the neighbors had a dog that woke us up the first morning with its nonstop barking (I LOVE dogs but jeez, don't bring your dog to a hotel and just let it bark all the time!). The pools are advertised as heated but they really weren't. The gym was eh. Three treadmills, two ellipticals, one upright bike, two benches, an ab crunch machine, and a strength tower for lats, leg curls and extensions, and chest workouts. They have a stability ball, foam rollers, and mats. They have dumbbells from I think 5lbs to 25lbs but only one 25lb dumbbell. No AC in the gym. The restaurant was good. The staff were very friendly! Some of the friendliest I've met. The area was beautiful. We paid about $400ish a night which is worth it but when I looked to book it again to bring my sister and my son, the price goes up to $600-800 a night which is waaaaaaaay overpriced. This place is NOT worth $600-800/night. Maybe the rooms with the private hot tubs and definitely the private on the water suites, but not the main rooms. Oh and the room fridges are tiny and there were no screens for the balcony slider door. I would definitely come back for $400 or less a night but I wouldn't pay any more than that. read more

Got an ocean-view King room for a last-minute trip to Bar Harbor. Big room, amazing view, balcony (first floor) that opened up to a well-manicured seaside path. This is a large, 1960s hotel with long and confusing hallways. The upshot is that there are lots of side entryways, so we almost never needed to go through the lobby. Can't beat the location in the heart of Bar Harbor. Pool and spa are great, with room to spread out even when it's crowded. Plus: the hotel owns the country club next door, so you have access to a second huge pool and hot tub directly on the water, about a 2 minute walk away. Only downsides are a pretty uncomfortable bed and very loud hallway noise: something about the heavy room doors that slam shut and a gap between the door and the floor meant it could get pretty noisy; but an overwhelmingly loud HVAC system, ironically, drowned most of it out. It's a tie between this place and the Bar Harbor Inn for the best place to stay in Bar Harbor. read more

We purchased a breakfast package but were disappointed to find we had to wait 15-30 mins on a table each morning only to have to wait even longer for breakfast. Last morning of our stay we skipped "free breakfast" we paid for in our package room price because we just couldn't do another 30 min wait for a table. Went directly to valet and there was no one there. In the next 10 minutes we're joined by 3 more guests checking out and also looking for the valet. Finally he arrives collects all 4 tickets and while we were first in line, our vehicle was of course delivered last. A fitting end to our stay. @ almost $700 per night, just expected a little more service. read more

A disappointing stay. This was our 11th stay. The location is good and the property is beautiful. Unfortunately, their customer service is non-existent. Their new wifi system did not provide a signal to the bedroom in our suite. I dealt with managers Biz and Jake during the week. Nothing was done to fix the wifi signal in our room all week. I reserved an island view suite. In our previous 10 stays we have always been given unobstructed island or water views. This time we were given a view of the parking lot. The trees in the parking lot blocked our view of the water. When I asked to change rooms, Biz told me "no". She said we had a "partial" island view. I told her I wanted a full island island view. She said with recent room renovations, room categories had changed and these changes were not reflected on the website. So if you book an island view, be prepared to look out over the parking lot. We had a very weak wifi signal in the bedroom of our suite. If we could connect, it would drop every 3-5 minutes. I complained every day of the trip. They asked me to trouble shoot with the provider directly. My husband sat on hold with the company for 10 minutes and hung up. This is our vacation. We should not have to spend our time trouble shooting their problem. Biz came down to our room one night and reset the signal on 2 of our devices. They did have signal after, but that signal dropped every 3-5 minutes. She asked if this happened to us at home as well. She has a condescending attitude. At one point customer service said the providing company said the system was working well. I asked them several times to just have someone come test signal strength in our room. That was never done. Midway through our stay, Jake said there was nothing they could do to fix the problem in our room (2038). At least he was honest. He offered to move my family from our 1 bedroom suite to a standard room. That was the solution to the wifi problem. They took the resort fee off of our bill. I guess the resort fee pays for the wifi. Biz acted like she was doing me a favor by crediting my account. This is a luxury priced hotel. The resort fee is a drop in the bucket compared to the nightly fee. Most of the front desk people seemed new and lost. Guest Services promised on 2 occasions to send a tech to our room. It never happened. Manager Biz is just rude and condescending. It's a beautiful property, but they will bait and switch on their room categories. I'm sure wifi signal is a problem in more than just our room. I can not recommend this property. read more

Great location. Basically park your vehicle and never get back in it as you can walk around everywhere downtown. Beautiful fireplace in the lobby with couches. Nice place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Rooms are clean and had lots of room. We had a few small issues but they were dealt with immediately such as no remote in the room. WiFi worked just fine..no dead zone for us. We do not like our rooms to be entered once we arrive and that includes housekeeping. The front desk called us as we had a package arriving. They respected the do not disturb sign and I appreciated that very much. Refrigerator in room. Safe in room. Bed was soooo comfortable and so were the pillows. We def will return. read more

We enjoyed our stay here very much. You're right in the middle of everything and the hotel is really nice. We liked the room a lot - it had a small little deck that was nice to sit out on and the bed was really comfortable. But the thing that really made this stay for us was the staff. We rolled up to the hotel at like 3:05 and were trying to get on the 3:30 sunset cruise. We told them we were in a rush to get checked in and they literally did everything they could to get us set up quickly. We really appreciated it. They were very accommodating in every way, down to the free cold water available out at the valet station. Would absolutely recommend. read more

WiFi doesn't work. Our room was a dead zone. The hotel gives you a number to call to fix your rooms WiFi? We called the number and they gave us the run around. Then the hotel gave us the run around. Just what you want to be doing on vacation. Other people we talked to were having the same problem. We just wanted to map out our bike ride ya know! Overall clean and good location. But for the cost (big money) you expect better customer service. And for the resort fee you expect WiFi. read more

Lovely hotel In the heart of Bar Harbor. Walking distance to most downtown attractions, restaurants and shops. Hotel and grounds were beautiful. 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 because of the following: Soft pillows offering no support. Soft walls allowing you to hear every move of others . Most of all, staff were either exceptional in every part of the interaction or completely cold. Some staff offered warm welcomes each time we entered or departed the hotel while others seemed like they could not be bothered by our interaction. This included front desk staff, the Matre' D and bar tender. We ordered food and a drink from the bar and the bar tender left the impression we were bothering him even to the point of encouraging us to charge it to the room as if he didn't want to swipe the credit card. Definitely a beautiful place, but improvement with some, not all of their staff interactions with guests would greatly improve the overall experience one should expect for the price point and projected elegance. read more

This hotel is overall very nice. Our room with a king size bed is large and spacious. Bedding is comfortable and the bathroom has a tub and a separate shower. Plenty of counter space in the bathroom. We had a room with a jacuzzi on the balcony which was heavenly after a day of hiking. The restaurant was surprisingly good-especially for breakfast. But there were some drawbacks...the Wi-Fi is terrible-so slow that really barely functional. Also they cleaned the room well but did not replenish water or tissues. Walls seemed thin-late arriving neighbors the first nite woke us up. Still, we got a good deal in the off season and I would return. read more

My husband made the reservation on the phone and specifically asked for a room with a view of the bay so he was surprised to look outside and see a view of the parking lot and the oceanside of the hotel. That would have been fine, it was a beautiful view but the balcony was littered with large piles of bird droppings and feathers. Not only that but there were piles of pine needles and dirt in the corners of the balcony and the chair cushions were dirty. In their defense we didn't complain to the staff so we don't know if they would have made it right given the chance. read more

Great location on the water and can walk across the street to downtown Bar Harbor. My favorite part was the two sets of hot tub and lightly heated pools- one close to the hotel and the second in the Bar Harbor Club across the parking lot with the pool and hot tub adjacent to the sea edge. Clean and recently updated rooms. Free WiFi with poor connection and poor cell signal throughout the island made surfing the internet difficult. Mid June early in the week we seemed to have the hotel to ourselves and it really filled up by Thursday. Will definitely stay at this hotel again when returning to Acadia National Park. read more

UPDATE: We were just moved to a new room that exceeds our expectations. No kitchenette (but I didnt want it anyway, don't go on vacation to cook), balcony that opens up right to the water/island view. So breathtaking, we very much look forward to having a cup of coffee while the sun comes up and relaxing in our room tomorrow. I just checked in to what was supposed to be a beautiful birthday weekend for my husband. I travel for work and spend half my life in hotels all over the country/world. I have never spent so much on such a horrible view. When booking the reservation I expressed that I have never been to bar harbor and was very much looking forward to the view. One of the reasons we chose this hotel and not a cheaper on. We we're greater by a wonderful concierge who was pleasant however when I called to explain how disappointed I was in the room (I did not originally book a suit or a room with a kitchenette) I was told that there was no other comparable options... the woman on the phone did not try to up-sell me to a better room or do anything to make me feel better about spending over a thousand dollars to look at someone's car! I did not spend 8 hours driving to a view of a parking lot. read more
