I used this location for overnight boarding for my dog, and I'm really disappointed with the experience. They cut his nails too short, and no one informed me about it. When I brought up my concerns, I felt like they weren't taken seriously and no one really listened or tried to address the issue. As a pet owner, I expect transparency and care, especially when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling uneasy about the level of attention and communication here. We dropped our dogs off for a half day boarding, which we confirmed beforehand was 6 hours or less, based on drop off and pick up time. Our daughter arrived at 8:17 which is proven with our Life360 and arrived to pick them up at 2:01, again proven by Life360 as well as when she left our home with both our garage door history, length of time to drive and Life360. The lady charged a full day, claiming she arrived at 8am and just didn't check them in right away and that she didn't pick them up until 2:11, which was their delay in processing the pickup process as her Life360 again showed arrived at 2:01. The nickel and dime of the company is absurd - it's not even about the difference in price but the principle of trying to push this to a full day when it was not a full day. We have been taking our dogs here and to other Camp Bow Wow's for years but the rudeness and false claims of this manager has turned us away from ever taking our dogs here again. Not the place for my dog. His first day he came home with a decent size bite mark on his neck with blood. I'm sure it's nothing serious but he goes to the park everyday and has played with some rough dogs so it's surprising to see him with an actual wound. Staff seemed super friendly and helpful when we dropped him off but confused on how the wound actually came about when we picked him up. Smell of dog piss is probably normal for a place like this but from their live video feed I can see that no one really uses the mop correctly. Just pushes the pee around with soapy water. I HIGHLY recommend this place! I have been taking my Bella here a couple of days a week for a few months now and am so so happy I found this place. Everyday when we arrive we are greeted with smiles and love. My Bella gets so excited when we pull in and the staff really love their job. You can feel the love when you walk in the door instantly. Just a great place with great vibes and you can tell everybody loves it here. All of the pups are happy and I also love the different events they have throughout the month that you can sign your pup up to. We dropped off our dog Pear for the first time for full-day daycare after completing the Interview Day. The front desk appears welcoming and gives you the idea that it is a safe environment for your pet, and you are given access to live cameras. While the cameras are supposed to provide peace of mind, we found ourselves trying to pick our dog up as early as we possibly could based on what we saw. She loves people and other dogs, but I could see this facility completely altering her personality and temperament if we hadn't noticed these issues early on. The area she was kept in was clearly overbooked, with so many dogs on a hard surface pacing back and forth looking for a comfortable area to take a break. It is overstimulating to the point that we did not notice our dog engaging in any play. Any attempt to interact with a human was met with a staff member focusing more on holding a spray bottle to scold them for hardly doing anything at all. When we picked up our dog, she looked terrified and had her tail between her legs. She has car anxiety and until this visit, has never once walked to the car and has to be carried. Today, she walked on her own and jumped into the car and since then has not acted like herself at home. We also noticed shortly after bringing her home she has wounds on her body, that staff members either were completely unaware of (due to the lack of supervision) or didn't care to notify us about. If you think this is a good fit for your dog, I suggest looking more into it and taking a look at the webcams and then deciding if it seems like a good environment for them to be in. Update: we have now reached about 24 hours since picking up Pear and this afternoon she vomited 8 times in a two hour period and is now making an emergency trip to the vet. There is a reason we ended our vacation early. We will not be bringing our baby here again. We were VERY nervous about being away from our puppy for the first time, especially given his timid personality. We were entrusting the whole staff at Camp Bow Wow to provide a safe, fun, and clean environment for our puppy. We immediately learned that we chose the wrong place. After spending so much time locating our little guy via the webcam due to possible overbooking, the observed handling of dogs was very concerning. When we got our little guy home, we found that he was bloated, had diarrhea, and had swollen, very irritated paws. We would have liked to be informed of this by the staff during his stay, whether it was caused by stress or something else. We let the staff know before hand to not hesitate to reach out to us about anything at all while we're on vacation. We understand minor scrapes and different bowel movements are normal when surrounded by other dogs and in a new place, but Bodhi's current state does not seem okay. Although the Camp Bow Wow staff was very nice and knowledgeable in person, most of the staff seemed uninterested in actually playing with any dogs or pairing based on personalities, etc. When calling for an update on the first day, they said he was doing great and to check their Facebook for pictures that never came. We are currently getting ready to take Bodhi to an emergency vet to give him much-needed relief. We are not interested in a reply to this review with any excuses, requests to contact you regarding this experience, or any apologies. Boarded my dog for 7 days upon leaving him we were not informed that he would not be going outside. We did watch on the camera and noticed there were alot of dogs inside all day. Upon picking him up he clearly was sick and had thick yellow snot coming out his nose and drainage from his eyes. His breathing was labored, no energy, lethargic and would not eat. He was diagnosed with kennel cough. When I reached out to camp bow wow I was told "He didn't have a runny nose until the day he was picked up. We should have wiped his nose and informed you when he was being brought up to you and that is our fault." There is no way that I picked my dog up at 5:30 p.m. and at that very moment he was sick. I tried to leave a google review but somehow they have erased it. I understand dogs can get sick when they are in close quarters with other dogs but we should have been notified prior to his departure. Also he was stuck in doors with 15-20 other dogs for 7 days and of course they are not accepting any responsibility or accountability. UPDATE: Because our 2 dogs came home with kennel cough, our other dog now has it as well and is going on medication. We took our two heeler pups in for a temperament interview last week. They were supposed to be there for 3 hours. We went in to drop them off, and the first thing we noticed was the stench of urine all the way out on the sidewalk. Seriously, the odor is overwhelming in the entire facility. This was already concerning, but not a deal breaker to at least try the place out. We asked for a tour while we were there, and the receptionist gladly showed us around. We were surprised to see that all the kennels were set up in the same place as the play area, so any dog who didn't like to socialize quite as much (like our third dog that stayed at home that day) would never have any quiet time - we couldn't hear anything the girl was saying and had to go up to the front to ask her questions. The thing that stuck out to us the most was that it just looked incredibly dirty. The food prep/bath area looked really icky. We were unsure of what to do at this point, as they'd already taken our pups back and they were playing. We left to do the errand we had in the area, and were uncomfortable enough that we decided to pick them up early - we did not need to have them fulfill the temperament test, as we would not be taking them back. They did give us approval and a pass for temperament anyway. We were not going to address this, but now both dogs have kennel cough, and this is the only place they could have gotten it from. I understand there is a chance this can happen at any facility/dog park/etc, but we have been taking dogs to daycare facilities for many years, and I've never seen somewhere so dirty or with such an intense odor - nevermind the fact that I've never had a dog get sick after leaving. Our dogs went in for a "free assessment" and a week later we have almost $300 in vet bills for exams and medication. This place is awesome. We have a 1 yr old German Shepherd that was born during Covid. We had a very hard time with socializing him during the Strict "social distancing" that was happening and with him being a German Shepherd he was very guarded and protective of us. Luckily Camp Bow Wow of Avondale helped. They understood the guarded behavior he would show when we were around and worked with him slowly to help break that habit. Our little guy became comfortable with camp and to the wonderful staff... So much so that now he has a "girlfriend-staffer" who he gets all excited to see. We love all the staff they are very knowledgeable and excellent with all breeds. They really do understand the behaviors and personalities of the dogs. Much to my surprise there was no boarding scheduled for her, no reservation was made and we were to leave the state on vacation. The representative didn't even try to accommodate and offered no explanation for the ball being dropped. We felt like it was a waste of our time to interview nor were we offered any tour of the facilities, which I have read on the reviews. My dogs have been coming here for 7 years. In the beginning I was very, very happy with them. I enjoyed being able to let the pups run around and have fun and socialize, and I could get a break for a few days- AND be able to keep an eye on them through the webcams. Things have gone downhill quite a bit since then. Here are a few examples: A couple years ago after a two night stay, I went to pick them up and they brought one of my dogs out to me, smeared in diarrhea. I stopped them immediately and said "uhhhh so how long did you leave him like this??" And they said it had JUST happened and still tried to give him to me like that. I said absolutely not, you need to clean him up. I'm not going to leave him like that, get poop all over my car. Do the right thing. Strike 1. Last time, I noticed that my husky was out playing almost constantly, but my malamute was never seen. At first, I didn't think much of it because they do rotate dogs to give equal time, breaks for food, etc. So I thought maybe I just kept missing him. However- this is wrong anyway. It is in his file that he has extreme separation anxiety and cannot be without his sister, so they need to play together, eat together, and sleep in the same cabin. I realized that they had gone against my requests and kept my dogs separate on several occasions. This became apparent when I went to pick them up and my dog's eyes were bloodshot and he, I'm not exaggerating, LOST HIS VOICE. This says to me that they likely just left him locked up and let him scream, probably the entire time. Strike 2. Today, I addressed my concern and let them know that the separation anxiety is still very real and they can't be apart, and that I'm aware they have been leaving him alone and letting his sister play. At this point they informed me that my dog is "a little snappy" and needed to be removed. Now, my dog DOES have some issues with dominance, but there is not an aggressive bone in his body. If he was starting to have some behavioral issues, this is the first I'm hearing of it. Why was this not brought to my attention last time when this behavior was supposedly noticed? VERY unprofessional and inappropriate. If my dog is having behavioral issues (and I do mean *IF*), I, as the parent, should have been notified immediately so that I can work with him to correct the problem behavior. Strike 3. I just checked the webcams again and now neither of my dogs are getting time to play. I suspect that they're just sitting in a cage in the back somewhere. Awesome experience. This is NOT what I'm paying you for. I'm going to have to look for another company. It's really a shame because Camp Bow Wow has always been amazing in the past, treated my dogs very well, and showed respect to me as a dog parent and client. I love that it's a collar free experience, the dogs can run and play with their friends, and we as parents get to watch the fun. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case for my family. TO THE OWNERS/MANAGERS: communication and transparency is key. Communicate with dog parents about any behavioral issues that are persistent so it can be addressed at home before the next visit is important. Train your employees to act with integrity and compassion. These are people's families and you should feel honored to be trusted with their well-being. It's time y'all act like it. read more

This used to be my favorite kennel and doggy day care. Not anymore. As fur babies age they have medical conditions requiring meds and extra care. Staff Failed to manage and administer daily eye prescription per written instructions for our shitzhu dog during recent 8 day stay. Eyes were clearly bloodshot matted and infected at the time of pickup. Keeping eyes clear and minimizing irritation was Preventable. My dog really enjoyed his visit. All of the employees were extremely friendly and knew my dog by name. They all had great things to say and seemed very loving to all of the animals. Onyx was very happy and not shaking out of fear in the car like he had from previous pet resorts. This establishment does require you to bring your pet food which is an A+ from me, you can also bring a stuffed animal or something comforting for your dog in overnight stays. I felt like they took pride in ensuring dog safety, health, and the "camp counselors" are all qualified in pet first aid and CPR, as well as properly trained in how to treat animals in large settings. When watching them on the webcam, there were always about 10 very big dogs in the "Yorkie Stadium". (I'm sure if you look on their right now, you'll see the same thing.) We picked our two dogs up there tonight after boarding them for 11 nights. I love this place & feel very safe taking my dogs there. We had to do a temperament test beforehand to see how they are with other dogs. Once they pass, they are able to be boarded or go to doggy day care. I have a senior lab who is on special medicine. They were able to handle all the special stuff for her. We were able to watch our dogs through an app ($4.99/year). We saw them playing, walking around, just being awesome dogs. It was great to have that reassurance. We also called to check in. They put us through to the person in the room with the dogs. She was able to tell us how they were eating, what they were doing, even who they were making friends with. They even got a bath at the end of their stay. In fact, Louie looked forward to his camp vacays and always came home a happy pup. And I like how she and her team care for the pups well being: There was one incident where Louie came home with a cold after his stay and it might've been the shampoo they used. Having corresponded with Heather about the issue, she seems genuinely concerned for the poor guy and offered Louie a complimentary hypoallergenic bath and made note for next time. The staff is so sweet and gentle here. I was very worried about leaving my highly neurotic maltipoo with them when I was in town for a funeral, but they treated her so kindly I was relieved right away. I can't speak highly enough of the staff. The facility was very professionally set up, but I have to say that it smelled pretty bad. My dog's fur actually carried the stink with her when we left. Once I recovered from the stench coming in the door to this place, I was immediately assaulted by their long list of things I MUST do. Note to management- As a prospective client, I MUST do nothing. Leave your shelter attitude at home. Oh wait, I've actually been to many friendlier shelters. I was NOT allowed to see the potty area, I was not allowed to see the play area, and contrary to their website, my dogs MUST be thrown in with the community against my will, exposing them to god-knows-what risks from other dogs and the diseases they might carry (based on smell of the place). I recently moved to Peoria and CBW is literally 5 minutes from my house but I would rather drive 30 minutes to Avondale... why? Well first of all, the camp counselors know me and my dog very well and we are treated like family. They always go an extra mile to get my pup in even when they are very busy. They also do incredibly fun and cute events like "doggy prom", pictures on Easter and Christmas, puppy ice cream events and much, much more. They also make their payment system extremely convenient; I keep a card on file there and simply charge it when I leave. New to the area we were recommended to Camp BowWow by another person at our dog park. We had a successful half day indoctrination but when we took her back for a one day boarding she developed Kennel Cough right after. Not knowing what it was we took her to a vet who said they would have to perform tests as it could be Valley Fever. Pet Smart wanted to do tests costing up to $1000.00. We took her to another vet who finally put her on antibiotics for a week and after all the vet bills totaling over $500. They diagnosed Kennel Cough. We contacted Camp Bow Wow and they verified that our dog had been exposed to another dog that was sick that day with Kennel Cough. When we asked if they would pay for our dogs Vet bills they said no as they were not responsible for any sickness she contracted there. read more

Camp Bow Wow excels in customer service for it's human clients, as well as hands out plenty of sincere love and attention to it's doggy clients. The employees and owner of Camp Bow Wow really show they love animals and relate to our anxiety as doggy parents when we have to be seperated from our doggy-children. But more importantly, I trust them! They have a internet "doggy-cam" set up so you can see your dogs playing. (I tend to miss my doggies more when I view them on the doggie cam, so I've decided to no longer go online to watch when I'm on vacation.)
