    Our pup is doing better

Absolutely amazing. When other vet messed up their schedule BluePearl was there to help me same day. Overall my puppy is doing amazing and staff was absolutely great!!!

We are immensely thankful to Dr. A for fitting in Kona Heavrin's amputation surgery the very next morning and for taking the time to meet with us, explaining Kona's situation and addressing our concerns. The professionalism of the staff and surgical team was truly remarkable.

I am writing this to express my gratitude to the wonderful staff at Blue Pear Town Center. They have treated all of our dogs for various emergent problems over the years. Each time, they were caring, professional and thorough. When the time came to make the heartbreaking decision to have our dogs euthanized - due to age and infirmity - they were compassionate, patient and kind. Three times they have helped us with this difficult task. Each time, the process was made a bit easier by the folks at Blue Pearl. They, like all the other Veterinary clinics in the area, are struggling with a lack of licensed veterinarians and other staff. Still, they afforded us the individualized attention one would expect from a smaller, less inundated clinic. I highly recommend Blue Pearl Town Center if your pet is facing a life-threatening or quality of life issue. The facility is top notch, and the staff is the best!

    My baby boy, Max. RIP

Absolutely horrible experience on Sunday, November 28, 2021. I brought in my critically sick dog. Because of COVID-19, I called from the parking lot. I was told they couldn't see him because they "were at capacity" for the day. No offer even to triage him. While I did find another place, my dog was dead three hours later. My wife called and complained the next day. The manager told her the "truth" which was that they actually had no vet on duty that day. So much for them being a 24 hour vet, and so much for honesty.

    Call first!

Very nice facility that is everything you could want for your pet when they are having an emergency, just call ahead and get your Emergency Appointment and be prepared to wait on hold for a long time. For urgent matters that are not critical, plan on waiting all day in their parking lot. Don't expect anything to be timely to be well thought out. I called at 9:30 with my pets condition and waited in the parking lot for 2 hours before being told that it would be another 4-6 hour wait. They simply do not have the staff to handle the volume of work in the area.

The staff were horrible. They treated me and my dying dog like they had better things to do. They made a very bad experience much worse!

Overall they do great work, but you need a deep wallet. If they could just be more reasonable about their prices more people would use them.

We have been going to Paws for 4 years now and recently switched to get our dog's teeth cleaned elsewhere. Never again. Our dog runs highly anxious, yet at Paws, where he can constantly move in the aisles before and after his session, he is less hyped. Love that we don't need an appointment. It's just a short queue every time. Love that our meds are less expensive and we can buy individually or as needed. Love that the doctors are quick and easy-going and the nurses have treats to give. Our dog even got microchipped as a puppy, and he yelped once and then got a treat and loved everyone again.

But after having 3 different awful experiences with this woman I cannot stay silent. My first encounter with her that went awfully was when I had brought me and my moms new puppy and intended to carry him so he did not have a leash since I was conscious about him touching the floor and carts being I did not know how well they had been cleaned and he had no vaccines yet and I was unsure if his mother had any vaccines. She spoke down to me once again, forcing me to put a slip lead on him and put him in a cart despite me being uncomfortable with this.  The next time we had been late on our puppies vaccines and he had to restart his vaccine course to which this woman spoke down to me and my mother about how if we had come in earlier he wouldn't have had to restart and in general was rude and nasty.  This last experience that I had yesterday is by far the worst and inexcusable. My personal dog who is human reactive had been muzzled bc he is large and scary when he barks but has 0 bite history. I stood with him near the door to try and catch the woman and ask her about where we should stand because my dog sometimes barks at people. when she came out she very rudely told me people had been waiting and I couldnt cut in line. I expressed that i was trying to alert her to my dog and keep him from people to which he is reactive. She told me she would have to help the others first and that the line started in the back. I assured again that was fine and she started helping people to which my dog started screaming because he saw another dog and got excited so she told me to go wait on the other side. I moved me and my dog to the other side of the door behind a pillar and was giving him treats and praise for ignoring the people and dogs. She came back to told me I needed to wait around the other side of the building all the way at the end and she would get me. I waited out there for 20-30 minutes crying because she made me feel shamed for trying to properly keep my dog under control and everyone comfortable. My mother ended up coming to help me speak to someone because of the treatment and we went straight back to the manager to speak yo him and were placed in line. When we walked in she tried to make an excuse that she somehow didnt know I was waiting outside despite her telling me to wait there. Everyone was amazing and helped us perfectly fine until my mother was trying to check out at the front with some items she was purchasing and heard the front desk woman telling other customers to "watch out for the girl and her mom with the muzzle dog who was lunging at others" to which my mom had an argument with her and left. My mom called me and informed me she was up there speaking about us and the woman standing in line next to us informed me that she had also been given the same warning about me and my dog and I alerted the manager of this. As I was leaving she was once again speaking about me and my dog If you look at any other negative review of this clinic it mentioned this woman and her repeated behavior like this. So this begs the question: are some dogs inherently less deserving of vet care because of their reactivity and does this woman get to decide?

A strong word of warning about Dr. Ashley Powell and Animal Medical Center:…read more We took our dog in for an emergent but common procedure. He was diagnosed quickly and surgery was recommended (to be performed by Dr. Koegel). Hours go by with no updates so I called to find out what was going on. Dr. Ashley Powell (the co-owner of the practice) got on the phone to tell me our dog died during surgery and Dr. Koegel was upset so she sent her home. Dr. Powell gave an - we don't really know what happened the procedure itself went great he just didn't do well - explanation of what happened. We went in to say goodbye and during our second post-surgical interaction she said the same thing - no clear explanation of what happened. My husband and I are both in medicine and knew something was off here. On our THIRD conversation after demanding to know what transpired during the procedure step by step (and demanding to speak to the lead surgeon Dr. Koegel) we learned that Dr Koegel mistakenly cut into our dogs diaphragm and called Dr. Powell into the room to help stabilize him while Dr. Koegel attempted to suture the laceration. This unforced surgical error was what killed our dog (admitted by all parties in our 4th conversation). What is more disturbing to me than a mistake happening during a procedure is the lack of professionalism, transparency and ethics by Dr. Koegel and Dr. Powell at every step. Dr. Powell runs the practice and found it reasonable to send Dr Koegel home instead of doing the ethical thing of facing the family and explaining what happened and taking that responsibility. Most importantly, Dr. Powell was not honest during the first two conversations about what happened during the procedure even though she was in the room. Medical professionals have a solemn obligation to conduct themselves with integrity even in the tough moments and Drs. Powell & Koegel lack that fidelity. We can't accept the idea of something like this happening to another family so please reconsider your vet care - Dr. Powell also co-owns Ally Urgent Medical Care off North Great Neck Rd in addition to co-owning Animal Medical Center. Dr. Koegel has since left AMC.
