It was busy with kids and parents mostly stayed to the sideline letting kids make friends and have a blast. There are loads of shaded picnic tables right next to the park where you can sit or bring lunch to eat at! The squirrels are very friendly and the birds come up to you almost like they expect a due for sitting under their tree, haha! Very clean and safe. There are public restrooms at the brick building across the sidewalk on the side of the picnic tables towards the parking. For public restrooms they're not bad! A quick straight stroll (2 blocks or so) to get ice cream and go out to eat or shop around! Great location.

When it's not being used freely by all sorts of visitors and tourists, the park gets set up for different events throughout the year, including for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and music festivals. Enjoy the view of the Saint Simons Sound. The big widget is the recovery ship that is cutting up the Golden Ray, a car transporter that capsized a few years back. Great spot. Parking can be a challenge during the busier times but there are plenty of bike racks. [Review 15742 overall - 424 in Georgia - 1246 of 2021.]

This is definitely the beach to…read morecheck out if you want to avoid the crowds at Tybee Beach or even Hilton Head, although it will require about an hour or so drive south from Savannah and similarly, north from Jacksonville. They also charge a toll to get into the beach community with state residents paying I believe six dollars or so and out of state residents paying closer to 10. However, it's definitely worth it as there is plenty of parking along the entire island beach strip, including a really great fishing pier at the end of the island that also has a bait and tackle shop located within the park. We found the beach to be clean, the facilities to be well kept, and more importantly, not overly crowded. The beach here is well traveled, however so this is not soft, supple sand, but much more hard packed, which allows for running, bike riding and recreational activities in general. There were several families fishing in the same vicinity of other families playing in the water which could present a bit of concern with regard to potential hooks and fishing tackle in the surf, but it didn't seem to bother anybody. This is definitely going to be our go to beach for the foreseeable near future.

We love to get here early to find a good spot, but be mindful that the beach can get busy during peak season. Either way, this beach never feels super packed, and is one of my favorites in the region. Love that it's dog friendly, just be mindful of the on and off leash times that coincide with peak season.

Great little campground at the Okefenokee Swamp! We are camping here for 3 nights in a 30' Class A…read more The campground sites offer water, electric and a dump station. Each site is level and gravel. There is not any privacy between sites but they are not stacked on top of each other either. There is a fire pit, a picnic table, a grill and a lantern hook at each site. There are only 3 campsites on Lake Laura Walker but all of the other campsites have a view of it. There is one bathhouse for the campground and I did not go in it so I don't know how clean it is. The rest of the park is well maintained so I imagine the bathhouse would be too. The park offers a visitor center with a gift shop and ice cream and boiled peanuts for sale. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The park is about 20 mins from Waycross should you need to shop or grab a bite to eat. There are two playgrounds, a fitness area, many pavilions and picnic areas. There is also an area for Sunday Church service which starts at 9:30 am. They also offer cabins and cottages for rent and there are separate campgrounds for pioneer and group camping. They have a VERY large dog park! One side for small dogs and the other for large dogs. Each side offers a bench and a watering station. This dog park added an extra star to my overall rating! We enjoyed our stay here and were happy to find out we were only about 8 miles from the Okefenokee Swamp Park which is also highly recommended!

The pier-ish area on the water isn't suited to fishing and the water is too dirty anyway. There are no safety rails adequate for children, and it's a place to walk at your own risk. The playground is okay as something for kids to do. There isn't much shade nor comfortable places for parents to watch. The large pavilion used for the farmers market is a field away from the playground so it's no use for parents. We attended an Easter event post-Ahmaud Arbery's death, during the Biden administration, and it felt truly diverse and positive for all. Recently, we attended the NYE Shrimp Drop during the Trump administration and it felt like a redneck fest with a creepy backwoods white band, and Trumpy-looking scary white people all over with sour faces. There was no sign of the shrimp nor promised bounce houses. Very few people were there, and NONE were non-white. It felt like Deliverance and we got the he!! out! Could not have been more repulsed. The park is a community facility. Local government should have a better grip on these "community" events, especially after their scandalous reputation for having DA Jackie Johnson enabling all the dirty southern racists who crawl out from under their local rocks around here!
