The menu was good and the service was excellent. There were four of us dining. One person ordered beef tips and was happy. Another ordered tilapia and was happy. The third person ordered a steak. Medium well was asked for and well done was received. I think if you want your steak past medium, you asked for what you get. I ordered a risotto special. The risotto was both gloopy and under cooked at the same time. It wasn't a well executed risotto, but was edible. I would go back her, as it is decent for a local restaurant. The atmosphere was great and service was good. They were super busy. I would definitely recommend as a place to go. Our table had the fried mushrooms and smothered fries as appetizers. The mushrooms were fresh and very good. The French fries were also good. A couple of us also had the crab stew. It was tasty and you definitely could taste the crab, but to me a stew is a little more hearty than this was. There was not a single person who did not enjoy their entree... We had the king of clubs, seafood platter, pasta carbonara, grilled tilapia, and the stinger salad with the sweet chili sauce. I do wish the salad was made with romaine instead of iceberg. I am unhappy with the service our family received at the restaurant. Our appetizers were brought out within a reasonable time, however, our actual dinner took way too long. I tried to inquire about the status of our dinner and the manager(who had just asked if we needed anything) very rudely told me "Look, you are not the only one in the restaurant, we have other customers". His tone and response were both inappropriate for me asking a simple question. We were part of a bigger party and we were one of the first ones to place our order out the group and by the time I inquired, most of the other members (who arrived and ordered after us) of the group had already received their dinner and had eaten. I requested to speak with the owner of the restaurant and at first, she seemed to try to brush it off due to being short staffed in their kitchen. I explained to her that I understood that but that was no reason for a unprofessional response by her manager to my inquiry. I told her I understand staffing issues, I work with a staff as well, but this is not a excuse to act unprofessional with customers. The owner did end up giving us two free desserts due to the incident, but it felt like this was done just to get rid of me, more than being empathetic to how the manager was treating a paying patron of her restaurant. Service was super slow at the restaurant and the way I was treated by the manager, will insure that we will not be frequenting the restaurant again. read more

The good: Nice decor, friendly staff, good prices, ok menu - could be more interesting but definitely something for most tastes. The fries were great. The bad: took a very long time to be served, very cold inside - felt like there was no heat on, waitress brought me the wrong item but it was ok = I didn't mention it and ate it anyway since I didn't want to wait all over again. The food was just so-so, nothing to write home about. I had to ask for a refill on water after a long time of the glass being empty. Love the decor and atmosphere. Guacamole bites are a unique appetizer and were very good. Definitely recommend them. The stingers (breaded chicken tenders) are okay. Wasn't a fan of the breading and the Carolina sauce I chose wasn't very Carolina-y. (That's a new word). Had those on top of a stinger salad. It was fine. I like there menu and will try more things. Stopped by on our way through town, glad we did! We were one of the only people in there so service was fast and friendly. Everything we ordered was was awesome. For desert we got the blonde brownie with ice cream. I was expecting it to be soft and chewy but it was pretty dry and crumbly. If I'm ever in town again I'll definitely go back. read more

We have been here a few times now and great every time. Caesar salad & crab stew are my fave. Meatloaf special was awesome too and I typically would not get meatloaf out but thought why not. We were there on a Saturday for lunch. The waitress was attentive and kept our tea glasses filled. The fried mushrooms were ok. My guests had the special, roasted red peppers grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. They said it was good. I had the enchiladas with pork, but they were too greasy to eat. I also had the onion petals, but the breading was falling off. The best thing was the sweet potato fries, that my friends shared, and I asked the server if I could an order for myself, but she said no, they didn't have a way to ring it up separately from the special. I have been to Bluff City at least 10 times since they have opened. I love the crab stew but every time I order it, it is different. Tonight I order crab stew and chicken garbacha... crab stew was great (no shells this time)... the chicken dish was horrible. The angle hair pasta was like rubber, the chicken tasted boiled and there was no seasoning at all. I couldn't eat it. I asked the waitress just to exchange it for a house salad. When I got the house salad it was so watered down and over dressed. Horrible. My son had a kids meal of the stingers dressing in terriyaki sauce. He is 8 and said that the terriyaki didn't taste good... I tried it and it was horrible. The only good food we had was the crab stew. It's sad because they have so much potential but things like this will loose regular customers. read more

Decided to check this out on the recommendation from someone in our Dr office. The menu had something for every taste and our selections were very good. Our waitress recommended the sweet chili dip as a side and it was delicious. Just wish it was one of those restaurants that sold their sauces as you go out the door. Our waitress took such good care of us. Great place but just wish it was closer to home. Make sure you stop by when you are in Alton. read more

Salad was good the grilled onions were not cut up so when you bite the sandwich the onions half in your mouth the other falls to your chin or shirt, Not Good. You cannot get a medium burger they are all well done?, Buns doughy Not grilled. Very disappointing experience. When leaving Their were 6 to 8 workers in ball caps and tee shirts at the bar with a staff of 5 or 6 waitress standing by the entrance hoping for customers .They seem confused on which clientele they want to cater too . We went here for lunch while on a business trip. We were seated and immediately noticed that the restaurant smelled musty. It looked like it had been recently renovated, so maybe the smell was from construction. The waitress came over immediately and took our drink and appetizer order and came back soon after for our food orders. We had the Guac Bites for an appetizer which were AMAZING. Our food took a long time to come out though and was decent. Don't go here if you need a quick bite. read more

I have eaten at this establishment several times and we are never disappointed. The wait staff is extremely friendly and work the floor as a team. You never feel guilty asking for extra anything from any of the staff, they are all eager to help all customers. The food is amazing! The crab stew is by far my favorite item on the menu, but that is just a start! 2 daily specials that aren't on the menu and drink specials everyday. I've eaten in the bar, the restaurant, and even the lounge on the restaurant side & am pleased with ever area. They have a variety of settings to offer for all dining situations. We visit the Alton/Godfrey area often and are always looking for new places to eat. We were not disappointed in this place. We went back 3 times during our last visit to the area. Best Hamburger I have had in a long time, and they also have fine dining type foods and appetizers. Upscale food without the upscale price. You can tell they have a REAL Chef. Waitresses were wonderful. Layout and decor were great. Bar is separate from the eating area with separate entrance. This is way above your average diner type food. The flavor profile was all over the place not to mention that the meat had the quality of a week old hamburger nuked for 5 minutes. Tried the newest dining spot in Alton (desperately needed) this evening. My wife and I tried the fried banana pepper appetizer. It was very good. The breading was very light and not greasy. The dipping sauce tasted like the type you get with an awesome blossom. My wife got the chicken grachsa with a salad dressed with their Italian house dressing. It was a large fresh salad with Parmesan cheese, red onions, artichoke hearts and ripe olives. Her entree was a large serving of chicken with angel hair pasta that had a light sherry cream sauce, not too heavy. Tasty, but the chicken could have used a little more seasoning. I tried the crab "stew." As they say on the menu, it is loaded with crab. It was in a light cream sauce, not as heavy as a chowder. To me, it was more of a soup than stew. Either way, it was great and I will definitely order it again! I had the spicy chicken and shrimp pasta. Again, a large serving with generous amounts of chicken, shrimp and mushrooms with bow tie pasta. Prices were very reasonable and our waitress was very attentive. My husband and I have been considering this place for a long time. They are busy often and have good reviews so we decided to give it a try tonight. Upon entry I noticed the restaurant is separate which I like, not being a "bar-person". The restaurant area is nicely decorated with pictures of beautiful Alton. First, our server, Savannah, was very helpful, friendly and well versed on the menu. After looking over the menu we decided to try a few apps since they all sounded so good. Mozzarella planks, medium wings and fried banana peppers. Can't say a bad thing about any of them! Banana peppers are lightly battered and crispy. You get SO many for 3.99 I was shocked. The wings were perfectly fried and sauced well also. Not dripping sauce or oil like you get at some places. The mozzarella sticks were good, although, not too special. Our burgers came out fast, we're cook exactly the way we wanted and the meat was so fresh! This place is way above the rest of the offerings in Alton.
