I gotta come back at night time when there is a bustling bunch of bowlers in the bar area. I was the only one in the grill at lunch time, so the bartender was busy stocking and the cook had to come out and do double duty as a waitress. I will say, my beer was cold and the frosted glass gave it an extra chill. I had a cheeseburger that was a hand patty. My garnishes were onion and lettuce and I had a side of fries. It was all served hot, but not as quickly as I would have thought being the only diner. I think with the workers do side and prep work made things a little slower. That is why I'll return and give them a second try.

Oh, Daddy. I like Catdaddy's…read more Catdaddy's recently went under new ownership. It's a new partnership that is mainly women. They are promoting themselves as, "A female owned space where women can let their hair down and have fun...We've got your back." They're promoting a safe place for ladies to have fun and not have to go it alone when feeling uncomfortable. The entire crew will have your back. It's a safe place. I met two female friends here for Happy Hour this past Friday. I thought I'd arrive early to secure a table, when I did the bar was already packed and it was just 5PM. I was greeted by a male bartender, who poured a good and refreshing Tito's with Seltzer. Pricing for a call brand was cheap. Not sure if it was a HH deal or not. I'll update that on next visit. The best way to describe, Catdaddy's is that it is an upscale dive bar. Its crowd was a good mix of ages, sexes and diversity. We were still there during the bartender change and the young lady who came on duty was also, attentive and friendly. There's no full kitchen, but they do offer bar pizzas, if you need a nosh to cut the liquor. I had fun, so I know I'll be back.

The Corned Beef was fork tender. Their cabbage was a mixture, half of my serving was mushy and the other still had a little snap to the texture. Both the potatoes and carrots were spot on, I enjoyed them more than I did the cabbage. The food never disappoints me. I follow Mac's on FB so I can see what the daily specials are. There's been many times when I see something good and it helps me plan my meals for the day. The steak specials are always a winner. I'm also a fan of their burgers, onion rings and Sunday brunch. My beverage of choice was a Citrus Wheat which is brewed here in Alton at, Old Bakery Beer Company. I'm not a fan of Guinness beer, so the local craft beer was a nice substitute. The service was attentive and friendly for a busy holiday.

Service was pretty good despite being super busy. Definitely were attentive and always on the move.

Instead of pieces of thinly sliced steak mixed with cheese, it was a thin sliced piece of steak with cheese on top. More of a steak sandwich. It was ok. The fries were well seasoned. I just always hope no one who smokes is seated near me. Today I expanded my menu experience by trying something totally new and different. I went with a Foul Ball, which is a chicken breast on a Brioche Bun with garnishes. I choose hand battered. You can also do, grilled or blackened. My breast was super thick and batter was crispy and had good flavor. As a side, I went with Tater Tots instead of fries. I've done this at other places and I'm starting to favor Tots. My beer was cold and the service was attentive. My server was training a new person and I think you always get better service when they are training. They want to make sure the newbie gets it, so they overdo it sometimes. I live super close to Roper's, but don't think of them when I'm heading out to eat. The food is good, I need to train my brain to remember them. I'll be back, hopefully sooner then later.

They sell burgers, chicken on a stick, steak on a stick, chicken sandwiches, shrimp, and fries. Your food is up pretty quick. We ordered burgers, fries, chick on a stick, big Elwood and shrimp. We also ordered two long islands and a beer. All in all we spent about $60. The food was delicious, seasoned well and plentiful. The drinks were made perfectly. No complaints from me. I'll be back!

And it will make sense for this story rather quickly Saturday brunch, as I was bound and determined to hit up a -different- location in Hazelwood (I will be polite and not name them but it wont be too hard to figure out) that's actually in a nearby location. I get there after a maze of side-streets (missing my primary turn off), and it's down to parking on NARROW streets. Uhm.. no thanks! I Spend 15 minutes looping around trying to find a spot on the street to park (the parking lot is teeny-tiny and every n, s, e, and w street either if us completely loaded with parked cars or right in front of a driveway (no blocking drives!) So it's time for backup site. And you know sometimes Fate smiles in your direction. I had known that there was a second lunch stop in a similar area, so follow the map again, and find it decently quickly, and surprise. they actually have a good sized PARKING LOT you can use! Welcome to Henkes! And I walk in to a long bar, and a crowded bar. (Wow, 1 in the afternoon and this place is packed!). Patio outside, indoor table... indoor table it is. And even those were nearly full. But the bartendress was over reasonably quick, although she had the same issue most bars here in st. louis have They never answer 'what is the best drink you make'. It's always what they like. Oh well, you can't have them all. (Although i will say I didn't have to ask about the Peanut butter and Jelly shot... You WANT ONE OF THESE! (if you're not allergic to peanuts - or peanut butter whiskey) Drinks came in a little slow (but not terrifyingly so.. did i say this place was packed for lunch on a Saturday?). Ironically, the busboy was over to me to make sure I'd ordered, but was nowhere the conversationalist the bartendress (I need a shorter word for bartendresses!), but don't take it as a negative, at least I know I was being looked after (or watched.. Nah, no paranoia here :) ) Easy to order: Shrimp Po-Boy with a side order of Onion Rings and Loaded Tater Tots (what can I say, I'm a simple man of food choices). Food came out reasonably quick, so I didn't have much time to look around (and most people have gotten decent indoor photos already) I will say (it looks like they're holding out hope that the video machine restriction is lifted back soon (2 video slots machines were listed Out-of-order). Anyway, whenever I had questions the bartendress was willing to give me a minute or two, (too bad they didn't have one of their "swag" in my size though). Although I forgot to ask as they appear to have live music bands on some days.. Where do the musicians fit? This place is a tight squeeze just on Lunch for Saturday! However, we do have to argue one issue with Heinke's and I'm just curious if this has never been brought up before: Asking for the meal with a side dish of Onion rings.. they charged me the sandwich plus an extra $8.95for the all-in-plate. (Yes, that's the only thing I can figure the all-in plate means?) But if i had just asked for the sandwich and a side of onion rings (I get the price of the sandwich + 5.95 for the side order?) Uhm.. Maybe I'm missing something in math class, but I get charged MORE for the same meal? Come on guys. tell me I'm missing something???? (only -star in the entire theme today) Anyway back to the original statement: So the TARDIS had it right. I may not always get where I'm going, but i'm glad I got to go where I needed to be!
