I do not normally write reviews like this, but the experience my family and I had at Bluefish Sushi Bistro on 3/4/26 was so unacceptable that it needs to be said. Especially to save anybody else from what we had to endure. We came in for dinner after a long, exhausting day of running errands.... myself, my sister, and my 83-year-old mother. We were seated modestly quickly, which gave us hope. Unfortunately, that was the only thing that went right. Shortly after being seated, a man who appeared to be our server approached us not to take our order, but to tell us he was "too busy" to wait on us and that someone else would come. That set the tone immediately. When another server finally did come over, things didn't improve. It took OVER 15 minutes for Server to acknowledge us, And another 10 minutes just to take our order, while we watched multiple tables who were seated after us being served promptly and efficiently. At that point, we should have left. I eventually received an appetizer, but my mother and sister received nothing. As I sat there awkwardly picking at my food, we watched surrounding tables (who arrived after us), receive full meals before us. We flagged down our server, and only then were we casually informed that my mother's meal had been given to another table. No apology beforehand. No proactive communication. No attempt to correct it until we had to ask. Let that sink in: an elderly woman sat there (over a hour now), waiting, ignored, while her meal was served to someone else and no one thought to inform us. At that point, we got up and left. The front door staff were the only bright spots. They were polite and immediately got the manager. The manager assured my sister that the situation would be "handled," that we would be contacted, and that some form of recompense would be made for the experience. She was also so apologetic... But her apologies were as devoid is truth as her personality was devoid of any humanity. So her promises that she would reach out that we would be recompensed well...That never happened. No call. No follow-up. No accountability. As for the food? I can't fairly review it because we never actually received it. The small portion of appetizer I did get was nothing memorable, and the sake was honestly subpar. What I can review is the service, (if one can call it that,) and it was abysmal. Disorganized, inattentive, and completely lacking in basic professionalism and respect. Promises were made and not kept, which makes the experience even worse. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are too many places that actually value their customers' time, dignity, and experience. It was extremely loud with poor acoustics and near the end of our meal other diners were leaving and it became a little quieter. Get ready for good food, drink and a noisy dining experience. Good food but I don't recommend ordering for takeout. I had food delivered and they didn't include sauces, chopsticks, or napkins. If I was home it wouldn't be an issue but I'm traveling and at a hotel and I have none of these things at my disposal without going to a store or paying extra to order it for delivery. As much as I hate it, I just don't enjoy sushi without the sauces and it sucks using yours hands to eat sushi instead of utensils. I have gone to the Blufish in Glenview many years ago. I remember that they had good food but it's always super busy and packed. I met with former co-teachers here on a weekday around 5pm. The interior is beautiful and inviting. We were seated immediately by the hostess since we had reservations. Same thing when I had an early dinner here with my son a week after. For those visits, I've tried: SALMON BENTO DINNER- this was so good. I asked for the teriyaki sauce to be on the side because I didn't want it to overpower the fish. The side vegetable was fresh, the salad was delicious, and the hot miso soup tasted great on a cold day. DRAGON ROLL- flavorful RED DRAGON - tasty BI BIM BOP W/BEEF - my son loved this. It was an appetizing dish. My friends and I shared a few appetizers as well, the BEEF KUSHI YAKI SKEWERS, SHISHITO PEPPERS, and the CHICKEN KARAAGE. They were all good to share. I also liked the Lychee Martini (if you want to add the blue color in, the drink is called BLUFISH), it was refreshing and enjoyable. Overall, the place is beautiful and clean. They have a lot of staff, so service is very attentive and efficient. I like that they use fresh and good quality of ingredients on their dishes. Truly we never have sushi anywhere else in Illinois because we always can count on Blufish providing the freshest ingredients. During my most recent visit, I made a reservation with the goal of flying in from out of town to surprise my family for Fathers Day. The staff went above and beyond in assisting in this surprise, making sure to hide the extra place-setting from the table until I popped up and swiftly taking my order right after. The food at Blufish is consistently good, and our orders that are always on rotation include: - House salad: Has so much flavor and so many unique textures. The presentation can't be beat, and it'll make those who don't like salads rethink everything they knew! - Salmon Sunshine roll: Such a perfectly balanced roll topped with lemon slices. Lemon, ponzu, crab & salmon go so good together, this gets finished within seconds of placing it on the table! - Cancun roll: Please bring this back on the menu!!! In the past, even once off the menu the chefs were able to whip this up for us in secret. During our most recent visit that wasn't the case and we were super disappointed. This roll is what we refer to as "that one roll that has pico de gallo on it" because it's something you wouldn't find anywhere else. Pico, octopus, pepper and cilantro were such a great mix for a sushi roll that we mourn this on the daily. All in all, anything you get from Blufish is going to be great quality and flavorful. This location moved a couple doors down from its original spot and they have done an amazing job at elevating this restaurant's setting. We ordered the edamame and fried calamari for appetizers. And 5 rolls for the main course. My favorite out of all of them was the King Kong roll. It had a great crunch element to it. I also ordered a mocktail called 'Mama's Little Helper'. We had an enjoyable dinner, the drinks seemed a tad light on the alcohol but were decent. The chicken karaage was very crispy and the dipping sauce was quite flavorful. It would've been nice to have had four shishito peppers since there were four of us at the table. The dragon roll was very fresh and the caterpillar roll was tasty however neither as good as our local sushi spot in Northbrook. The chilean sea bass was amazing and it included vegetables and rice under the fish, starters of miso soup and a small salad with Japanese vinaigrette. The outdoor seating leaves something to be desired as there is so much traffic on Touhy and the outdoor space in between the two buildings also has traffic noise and peoplewalking by constantly. The inside ambience is nice with muted lighting, however, I prefer the feel at the Glenview location with not as expansive a dining room. Service was very professional and helpful. The menu is extremely extensive, and I don't know if anyone else feels this way, however it feels as if after all of the different descriptions and combinations of ingredients in the different sushi options, it pretty much all tastes the same in the end unless you have jalapeño or cream cheese in your roll! Next time we return here or to the Glenview location we will order more hot food items and only one roll to share or maybe some nigiri to satisfy the fresh fish cravings. read more

This is our first time ordering delivery from this sushi place in Park Ridge. And we found every single roll we got was delicious. I can't imagine if we got full rolls of everything we would be stuffed . Glad we just got the half role of four different types of rolls. This was my favorite spot for sushi/sashimi. It's beautiful and has been very good in the past. I hate writing bad reviews, but last night I ordered the sashimi entree and each piece of fish I tried to eat - especially the tuna - tasted as if it had been soaked in motor oil. The entree was sent back. I actually could not get the oily taste out of my mouth and had to start chewing some gum right away. Could the fish have been cut on a new plastic cutting board? The smell was like plastic products from China that are off gassing and that smell is similar to motor oil. It was pungent and gross and not a food related smell or taste and not even a "bad fish" taste or smell. They apologized and took the meal off our bill, but after asking if I wanted to order something else, I couldn't as I felt unwell, so I had no dinner last night. Was disappointing and truly the weirdest sushi/sashimi experience ever. I was feeling sick the whole way home and made it back in time to throw up several times. I ordered a Princess Margarita and was hoping for something pink and pretty looking, but I got something very plain, small, with a slice of lime. It was at least strong. My husband's drink had a slice of something with a seared Bluefish label on it: that was cool. For apps we ordered the veg and shrimp tempura, which was perfect. The calamari was sliced and laid out as six pieces. I had two cooked special makis: Black Dragon & Catepillar. Both were well balanced and tasty. My husband chose two uncooked maki rolls and didn't get what he expected by no fault of the restaurant: he just didn't read the descriptions. First and foremost most, the fish was excellent. The sashimi salad came with chunks of tuna, salmon, yellowtail and super white!! Spicy sauce is served on the side. The seaweed salad is amole but pretty dry - meaning, there is no dressing. It has sweet potato crisps too which was odd and while I like it, it didn't really go with the salad. This place doesn't serve up food correctly. Their tempura was THE worst tempura I've ever had. It was a brick. Tempura should be light and crunchy but this was the opposite. I've gone here over the years with mostly takeout that's been pretty good. We went last night and will never go again. The decor is beautiful. The coconut shrimp was delicious. The edamame needed salt. Unfortunately all three sushi rolls we ordered were terrible. We each had a piece of each roll and concurred. They tasted like old fish. The eel was so tough, it was like chewing rubber. Thankfully the server was very understanding. This experience left us feeling nauseous. The menu is broad, with noodles, bento boxes, teriyakis, apps, etc. Of course we get the crazy makis. This location seems a little more hip(?) than the Glenview one... it's really louder than I expect - yes, I'm probably too old. I did opt for outdoor seating on our last trip and it was better. There's a lot of spicy salmon on the maki menu and it's more like a salmon pate than salmon with spicy mayo (for example). Not a big fan of that, but if that floats your boat - go for it. read more

Went to Blufish to celebrate my parents 40th wedding anniversary. This is a local restaurant that we frequent quite regularly and would normally rant and rave and usually recommend. However, on our recent visit we had a few inconveniences that the manager, Helen, made it clear she didn't care for. 1) ordered appetizers and they were delicious. However, when our food was delivered one of the servers spilled some sauce on the floor and the manager, Helen, berated him and yelled at him in front of guests. Mistakes happen, and was it necessary to humiliate him in front of everyone? 2) cocktails amazing, nothing bad here 3) sushi rolls were not the freshest that evening, which will happen so it's not the biggest deal. However, we found what appeared to be plastic in two of the rolls and it honestly took away the magic in the evening. We mentioned it to the server and he was gracious enough to take it away and off our bill. End of the meal after we paid and were ready to leave, the woman who appears to be the manager, Helen, stopped us as we were putting our coats on. She asked why we decided to visit the restaurant on a weekend night and "expect a 10/10 experience". This was honestly unexpected and I had no words for it. She then told my parents that BluFish was not a "celebration" restaurant and we'd be better off at the sushi establishment down the street. Shook and still don't know how to feel about this incident as she really created a negative impression for us, especially on such a nice occasion. Will not be going back to BluFish. read more

This was our second time going to this location, and we chose the outdoor dining since the weather was nice, and our previous time there the indoor dining area was a bit too loud to carry on a conversation. The outdoor dining area was very nicely set up. Service was timely and polite. We tend to be adventurous in our sushi-eating--the more unique the roll, the more likely we are to order it. And this place has a LOT of unique rolls! It's hard to narrow down which ones to try. Salmon sunshine was one we really liked. One thing to note is that the spicy salmon is the kind that's blended into a paste mixed with spice. (Not my preference for it to be that blended, but there are plenty of other things for me to order there.) They also have an extensive wine list to choose from. read more

Perfect for date night if you're looking for a more upscale dining experience. Me and my friend shared an appetizer then had 2 rolls each and we were so stuffed. Tempura: You can choose different combos containing veggies, shrimp, calamari, etc. We chose the shrimp and veggie combo which had shrimp (obvi), carrots, asparagus, and onions. Lightly battered and delicious. Sushi: Their menu set up made ordering easy because they separate the raw sushi and the cooked sushi which was convenient because I only like cooked sushi. Our party of 8 shared a variety of appetizers and entrees since we are not big eaters and like variety. We started with Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna rolls and Calamari & Vegetables w/ Ponzu dipping sauce. It was hard to tell which pieces were Calamari but they all tasted good. The other entrees ordered were: Nabe Yaki Udon, Tempura Udon, Braised Short Rib, Fillet Mignon, Blufish Don, and Yellowtail Collar. The udon portions were large and each portion could be shared by 2 people. The Blufish Don was also a large portion that could be shared by 2 people. The Filet Mignon was actually split by 2 people but a hungry person could maybe finish it by themselves. All of the dishes were fresh tasting and delicious. The prices were reasonable, especially considering portion sizes. Went to Blufish for a work lunch and thought it was really good. I'd been to the Glenview location a couple of times but it was my first time at the Park Ridge restaurant. The Park ridge location is a little bit nicer and upscale. Tables are a little further apart and the decor is nicer. Service was solid with our waiter checking in on us frequently. For appetizers we got the crispy rice spicy tuna which was super tasty, the gyoza which were solid but nothing to write home about, and the coconut shrimp. For my mains I got the Chu-Toro Tuna Nigiri which was soo good and high quality. The fish melted in my mouth. I also got the spicy salmons roll which was very tasty.
