tables and chairs in a restaurant

Older, regular crowd. Yes, everybody knows everybody's name and the bartender usually has their drinks ready before they sit down. Simple, no frills. There's only a couple choices for bourbon, a couple Scotches, Jack, two tequila choices...basic bar. They aren't infusing anything. They aren't creating mixology. They are pouring a stout drink and a cold beer, Nikki is the afternoon bartender and she takes great care of everyone. Monday's have $2 domestics. Sunday they have food during football. There are pool tables, steel tip darts, a jukebox that never gets too loud. Afternoon crowd watches Jeopardy. Smoking on their large patio. Parking up front. the strip center is nearly empty so it looks a little worse for wear but don't be alarmed. I had been looking for a simple, friendly neighborhood dive bar near home for some time. Here it is. It opens early. I am an afternoon drinker. Finding a place that will make me a Jack and Coke or a shot of tequila at 1 or 2 in the afternoon is difficult. Most of my favorite bars don't open til 4. By then I plan on being home and fixing dinner.

The origami ceiling, lively bar, friendly staff, unique cocktails, fun bathroom, and photo booth in the corner made for an unforgettable experience. My friend said it was the busiest he had ever seen the place, and it was loud. But we got some awesome drinks that I swore I could've taken pics of -- the lighting was a little crazy, so I think I ultimately changed my mind with that. One was the periscope which was a refreshing and summery gin drink... And I think I tried the naked and famous too because I like mezcal. I had already eaten so I skipped the restaurant the speakeasy's connected to, but I cannot wait to return to Houston outside of a Con so I can really go all out on exploring. It was an amazing way to end my first night!

I ordered the Side to the Sun Rises (gin, yuzu, mint, cucumber) which was light, refreshing, and well balanced. I would recommend it if you enjoy gin-based cocktails with a slightly fruity flavor. My friends really enjoyed their drinks as well. They have all day happy hour on Sundays/Mondays. We did not get a chance to try the food, but the menu looked great. Overall, a fun spot with great vibes and definitely worth checking out!

The inside seating is nice and cozy with good music and the patio/rooftop is very nice. The cocktail menu has some variation for most palettes and are all reasonably priced. I ordered the Roma which was very good. The bubbles from the kombucha give it a nice subtle effervescence. The spiced rum and blood orange mesh very well together making for a great drink. My friend ordered the Lavender Cucumber Collin's. This drink didn't really put the lavender on the forefront which lead to it getting lost by the cucumber, same for the crème de violets, absent. The drink was overall refreshing and tasty to her standards. She let me know it was quite strong also, which she prefers. She also ordered the kale Caesar and really enjoyed it. It was perfectly sauced to her liking. Service was okay. Looks like there was only 2 people working for a midday shift around 2 o clock. But no complaints. Salad and drinks came out pretty quickly. The place was pretty empty, definitely looks like I could hold a nice little crowd. Overall a solid 4 stars and warrants a repeat visit so I can try out the food and appetizers.

The uncovered patio has considerable more space but be prepared to stand. My visits have been early evenings and haven't witnessed what a crowd would look like. As you walk in, you'll be greeted by the 70's/80's/90's bar music of rock/disco and chessboard floor pattern. Then you get your drink order from one of the many pleasant bartenders (or Louie) and sit either inside or outside and think to yourself you're the luckiest person in the world. So they specialize in three things: cocktails/liquors, cigars, and patio seating. When you combine all three of those, it's the perfect bar. Cocktails such as ol fashions and cape cods are plentiful here. I also appreciate they do a new york sour here which is an underrated cocktail. Cigars are sold here too and they have cutters and plenty of torch lighters to spark them up. Outside on their patio deck has plenty of seating with some of those heaters in case you houstonians can't handle the cold. Only gripe is I wish they had a larger wine selection as they only have bordeuax or a red blend. Not sure if they serve white wines either. But there's wine bars for that. You're here for the hard stuff or a quick beer, maybe a cigar, and definitely a peace of mind. That's what keeps me coming back!

It's also a great place to watch sports. Apparently, they've been a go-to spot for World Cup games, so shame on me for taking this long to find it. I'm definitely adding it to my happy hour rotation--and it may end up being my go-to spot for American football. Really chill place. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

You can see their happy hour menu on their website. Greg (the bartender) is the absolute best! It was like he read my mind and brought me a drink right when I was going to ask for one on multiple occasions. This place is so spacious with plenty of seating! There's even the "Roxy Room" upstairs which you can rent out for any private events. For the food, you order at one of the food stands that you like and receive a text when it's ready to get picked up. I was so torn inbetween all the options that were presented to me, but decided to go with Blk Mkt Birria. Their birria tacos were great! There was something slightly spicy about them (maybe the tortilla since it was a literal red color?) so if you are SUPER sensitive to spice I wouldnt order these. They did have limited edition Birria Tamales which I just HAD to try. Honestly they were just a tad bit dry on their own but drenching it in the Birria consommé (which is what the consommé was meant for) it was great! I need to come back here to try all the other food vendors! I already know the bar is a vibe so I gotta see if each genre of food will have my mind blown :) Next time I come, I do wanna try Mad Dogs, the Pita-Ria, Seoulside, Bird Haus, or Cvche. But I only have one stomach so I think it'll take multiple times coming here to try all the food I want, but it's ok it's totally worth!
