For this being the Galleria location bar it's pretty disappointing. We were there at the bar and no one was there to take our order. We asked if we could do a quick interview in the patio and the lady working the bar with the dragonfly said no and we would have to contact the marketing department blah blah blah. We wanted to change locations. She didn't have the liquor we wanted on hand for a margarita but she wouldn't let us cancel our order because, "she had already started it". When she went to ring us up her system was down so she wrote out the ticket on a sheet of paper. For a Marriott boutique hotel it's no wonder they have three stars. Also, the employee we interacted with was not very service oriented. It just wasn't the most pleasant experience. I won't patronize there again. read more

This place is a hott mess and then some (literally hott mess, since the brand new AC did not seem to be utilized). Uggghhh We went here on their grand opening night, so we were expecting more. I am so sad they did not deliver. This place is located at the new swank W Aloft Hotel located foot steps from the Galleria Mall. First off, do not park across the street at the plaza that houses Capital Grille, they will tow here. The hotel has a parking garage located at its rear. After finding parking fairly easily on the second floor, we walked to the elevator to go down to the bar. When I say wait, I mean waiting 5-10 minutes for a freakin elevator. I think these are the only elevators in the parking garage. So on busy nights and on weekends this can definitely get backed up. When we finally made it downstairs, this place was a packed house. The music was blaring and people were dressed to the nines. I guess I didn't get the memo that it was "Dressed to Impress" night. As soon as you step in, this place is chaotic and pretty unorganized. Don't get me wrong this place gets a solid 8 on the luxury scale, but the atmosphere and lack of bar staff definitely was not worth it. This place was definitely short staff on their opening night, shouldn't they know that they will need a full staff to prepare for battle of the oncoming bar hoppers and club goers. Duh! The bar staff they did have were as slow as molasses. So slow that we didn't even get one single drop of liquor after 15 minutes or so. As we waited we looked over the menu, which had an array of cool and inventive cocktails and martinis they also offer small bar bites. After the 15 minute mark with no liquor in our system, we decided to leave. We left hot, frustrated and alcohol free, which concludes to the 2 stars review. I might try this place again, but for right now I'll let all the hype die down before attempting a second trip. read more

This bar has become my new hideout. I've been a fan since their grand opening, which was a terrible event. I've been back mostly b/c of the free'lax vibe it gives plus the intimate lounge compatible for couples to chill. Free pool! Just one table in the lounge though. Maybe i shoud have kept that to myself but that's the main reason i come here. i dont have to pay $12 an hour per table to embarass myself. My gurl is a quick learner so teaching her is fun and it helps me practice. & now some of my close friends are in relation 'boats' & someday i'll challenge them to a couples' game of pool. Back to the subject at hand. Going to packed bars all the time is a drag compared to coming here. There's a patio for the oh-so common uptown metropolis street view. Need i remind you it's a hotel. If you dont want to go home or can't resist your lovers' rack--pun intended--you can easily get a room & head upstairs for a shift+1. read more

After someone pulled the fire alarm at the hotel ended up at the lobby at the the bar having cocktails after walking down eight flights of stairs and I'll drink to that. all is well, the fire department gave the OK,o drinking back to the room. read more

This place is about 5-10minutes from my house, so last week I've decided to trying it out. Actually I visited Monday and Saturday. Monday: I tend to check out places at awkward times just to get feel, and just let the venue soak in. Anyway, I got there about 5ish just to try out their HH. Which last until 7p.m. (seems to be the trend in Houston). The prices were decent if I remember correctly beers were 3 or 4 bucks, and wells about the same. There was a group of 20 or so people there. Guess it was a party or something. From what I saw it looked like an "Old guy/Trophy wife" convention. I'm serious all the women looked 25-30 with tight low cut dresses. The men were easily 40 with low hanging stomachs. I proceeded to drink my cocktail, and play a few games of free pool. I enjoyed the setting. Its a total Miami feel, and very modern. The only odd thing is that the "customer check in desk" is like right there. I would think it would be hard for people to check in when there is a club right there in your face. If you asked me they should have built a wall to separate the two. I'm not an "Design Star" contestant so I'm sure they could careless what I think. The service was ok. It could have been better. The bartender seemed to be easily distracted, and messed up my tab. Don't worry I quickly put her on the straight and narrow. . Saturday: No one there at 11p.m. Enough said. This place really has some potential. If they get their name out more, and get some decent waitresses and bartenders. I could really see this place being a major player in the Galleria area. read more

So I decided to check this place out because I was staying at the aLoft hotel for a couple of nights. When I called down to the front desk, the attendant told me that the lounge was only open until 12am, so my friends and i figured we only had an hour to do some damage. I headed down to the lounge which is relatively small in some sense and for me it's that way because it flows right into the lobby. So it makes it feel like the lounge is just an extra part of the lobby and not something special. The bartender who was serving our drinks for a majority of the night was very friendly and totally catered to our drinking needs. If a drink wasn't too our liking, she would make another one free of charge and she made sure to pack a punch in the drink. That night the lounge stayed open past midnight and I guess it's all on the staff and the occupancy. If there's people there and the bartenders don't mind working, then they'll keep on working until 1 or 2am. The seating arrangements are very comfy and it's set up to have conversations with groups of people. The crowd was a good older crowd like late 20s-mid 30s. No one was obnoxious and everyone seemed to be talking to one another whether you knew the person or not. It's definitely a good place to start the night with some friends and some drinks. I don't know if I would be able to spend the whole night there, but an hour or so would do me just fine. read more

I miss The Treehouse at Discovery Green. It was hip but it didn't try too hard, it had great seating for both couples and groups, and it served some great drinks. WXYZ captures the same vibe. The service was friendly & not pretentious, the music was chill, and it was a comfortable place for us to hang out after dinner when we didn't want to go home just yet. I have to agree with Valerie A., Aloft's wxyz Bar was a mess. The W Hotels celebrated the grand opening of their hotel over the weekend with a mixer in their wxyz Bar, which also happens to be apart of the lobby, but I'll get to that shortly. As my group of friends and I drove up to Aloft, we could see from Westheimer that the bar was packed because the bar is facing Westheimer. We opted from parking in the parking garage (which is the only place you're allowed to park for either $17 valet or $10 self parking), instead we took a risk and parked in the business park across the street where The Roxy is located and walked across. Once we walked to the hotel, we went inside to the bar where it was packed with the latest pop, rap, and r&b music blasting. I guess they did a really good job on promoting their opening because it seemed like everyone and their cousins were out in full effect. We had just missed the complimentary cocktails that were being provided by Bacardi, so we didn't even bother to get a drink or anything because there were so many people. The bar area is small but the deco is very hip and contemporary, as it is throughout the entire hotel. The location of the bar in the lobby area can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you view it, my friends along with many others (eavesdropping on their conversations lol), didn't like it. Maybe it's because they're used to a lobby being by itself perhaps, who knows, but it wasn't well received. When you enter pass the receptionist desk, to the left, there's re: fuel station where it's self service for those wanting to grab a bit to eat while staying there. If you keep going straight towards the elevators that lead up to the rooms, you'll see a display full of little themed baskets such as the Just-In-Case basket that's filled with things females need for that time of the month. To the right, are the restrooms where the doors and walls are frosted glass to provide more light inside and out. You could go on a tour of the rooms that were on the seventh floor, which we did and the rooms are very hip and trendy and in the style of a loft. It did seem though as if the hotel didn't expect to receive as many guests coming to view the hotel or just take part in the mixer, but it was a bit chaotic. The receptionists seemed to have a very laissez-faire attitude by just standing around clueless at times behind the desks when asked just simple questions about the hotel. Overall the place was okay but moreso overhyped. It does cater to the young professionals and the young crowd, which is a big plus, because it's a nice alternative to Hotel Zaza (well not really, it's more of a downgrade but still the cool and hip spot to be). I could see this place having alot of people coming in just to be seen and excited over a lobby/bar being a club in a way (because let's be real, this was more like being in a club than anything else), but I'll wait until the hype goes down until I visit again. read more

Attended the NYE Party "Midnight in Paris" by Miko Events at XYZ Bar. It was the most horrible experience! The hotel is very nice as well as the staff, but be warned of any event hosted at this bar. We paid over $100 for a ticket to a catered event that ran out of food within the first hour. Host said we would have to wait another hour and a half for them to restock!!! Food was advertised as gourmet, everything was well below par!!! Space was not well decorated or even remotely as advertised, it was small stuffy. Barely any space to eat. Dance floor was empty and the basic amenities promised by the promoter were well UNDER DELIVERED!!! Ultimately our group of 5 (who comprehensively paid $550 to attend) walked within the fist hour and collectively decided to spend the count down at regular bar than stay there. This party was so underwhelming not one drink was bought out between the five of us out of complete disappointment. That should say enough!!! Hotel is unwilling to help resolve. Promoter is hostile. Consumers beware!!!! read more

Very chic and modern bar. The outside patio has a nice fireplace to chill by on these cold winter nights. The bar is never too packed and the bartenders are very friendly and speedy. The ambiance is very chill and the prices are not too expensive like most bars. This place is great for and after dinner drink or just a great place to chill and network. read more
