This place was my favorite place on Earth on my last visit in 2024. When I came back to visit in 2025 things have change a little. One change was exactly what they needed expansion. I came there to meet someone I knew for some hookah.. shit went down with people I don't even know and I did everything to de-escalate the situation by just sharing love with everybody to calm everybody down.. to an extent though. There was a specific bartender there who was so threatened by me asking for a drink... that she gave me so much attitude and literally showed me that she didn't like me , lol. I said that I didn't want her to make my drink after rude comments that she made and to get me another bartender if she didn't like me. She got one of the people who are "apart of the establishment" to try to throw me out. Aug 3rd this happened. I told that exact person, "You ain't gonna do shit." She was so boiled by me. Her "man" or so it seemed like, tried to demand me out after she went to him ( IN MY FACE) as I paid, been a civilized attendant at this lounge, and even paid the establishment with sales, as I work in sales ), he just took her word because they were both bird b*tches . At that moment, I just knew that I would never be back here. . I feel bad for the other people who work there that work with them. I can describe how they look, but I won't do that to them. I recently moved into a high rise down the street and figured I would check out Urban Social since it is within walking distance. Huge mistake. This place is an absolute dump. It feels like they took the entire building and panic sprayed it with the cheapest black paint they could find from floor to ceiling and called it a vibe. You walk in and are immediately surrounded by grown men in their 40s smoking neon hookahs that look like they belong at a Rock N Jock bowling alley on black light night. The lighting is so dark you cannot see anything, which honestly might be intentional. The whole place smelled like strawberry mint vape juice and regret. There is a sign on the door that says 25 plus, but the atmosphere screams 18 plus club that borrowed furniture from a Spirit Halloween. Total sausage fest, nowhere to sit at the bar, and zero chance of ordering a drink because I stood there completely ignored like I was invisible. Not a nod, not a glance, nothing. After a few minutes of soaking in the darkness and secondhand hookah smoke, I walked out and went somewhere else. Major disappointment, especially since I was hoping this could be a regular spot close to home. You can reserve a table to have a spot separate from the general crowd. This is a small spot and space is limited. The music is vibrant and will definitely get you dancing. The DJ mixed songs together that I didn't know would be paired as well as they were. We got to hear some of the local Houston R&B and rap songs, which was a joy since this is the hometown of some major R&B and rap artists. The drink menu is mature and eclectic. The bartenders know what they are doing! Impressive! I was able to chit chat with some very friendly locals. The TVs were showing the Olympics at the time. At one point every one was cheering U.S.A...U.S.A! The bathrooms were unisex and it was interesting watching the men wait along with the women . It worked. No complaints there. I went here last night for Labor Day and it was R&B night for the majority part of the night, but as the night went on, they started playing more hip-hop./rap, which really hyped up the crowd. You have to get here early because the seats get taken fast and will leave you standing so I suggest wearing some sort of flat shoes. The drinks are pretty good and the parking is free. They also serve food, but to be honest the food can be pricey due to inflation so I would suggest eating something like a snack on the way home. Overall, I really enjoy the atmosphere in here. They keep the lights dim so you don't have to worry about bright lights flashing on you. I do want to point out that they do have an odd restroom area. There's two doors and you could be standing in line and people will just walk up and skip you or ask. Are you in line for the restroom. I'm new in town so that's the only spot I know of for now. I've been going since I moved here. But one thing I've noticed is the security guards are sometimes messy and display unsavory behavior. I once overheard them asking each other or gossiping over if a certain male bar tender was gay or not. MOST importantly, they lustfully stare at me and pretend they never saw me. The worst part is is two of them made catty comments towards me. I can't speak for all of them, but majority of black male security guards at Urban Social are undercover CATTY HOMOSEXUALS. And give some lounge goers a bad experience because of their own insecurities or lustful behavior.. I had taken a prize fighter friend of mine there once, I was patted down first and my friend was second but the look on security face was as if they hit the jackpot. I suggest get rid of them all and get a new team before you end up with a male sexual harassment lawsuit. No joke those guys get a kick out of pat downs and sometimes the hands get a little confused. Nothing wrong with being gay but the catty behavior doesn't mix for a good time. GET RID OF THEM. And hire real professionals who mind their own business. The current team of security staff behave like low key teenagged mean girls or wanna be queen B.... It's a dangerous mix in an urban environment. Not to mention they prey on the men who come there. This is my THIRD attempt trying to come to Urban Social. The same thing happens every time I've tried to patronize the establishment. I can never get in. This time we arrived around 11pm (Friday) and the line didn't seem to be that long. However, the two bouncers at the door held the line for about 20 minutes before announcing "we just got a text from the owner that we have to wait until 25 people leave before we can let more people in". Meanwhile, we decide to continue to wait like idiots and count every person that exited until we hit 25. The 25th person finally exited and the bouncers continued to flex on us by keeping us waiting like dogs chained to a tree. I'm too old for the shenanigans. I had two colleagues in town for the evening that wanted one last drink before calling it a night. Unfortunately we never got the chance to have that night cap because the bouncers were too busy chopping it up with the old head Omegas and hugging all the women on the patio. I'm too old to be standing in lines being held up by bouncers like I'm still in college. We chucked deuces and got up out of there. I was told that Urban Social was a nice spot for 35+ adults to vibe out at. It still may be, but I've yet to get in and I'm just about done trying to do so. They are located in the middle of a long strip center with a variety of businesses located there. Parking can get scarce if you don't get there early.
