Customer service and manners amongst the staff are less than desirable! Steve says that he will call you back and he never does. He can't get you an appointment in a timely matter. He always tends to assign you a date a week from when you called him. My mom was giving him the courtesy of a phone call to inform them that she needed to cancel her appointment and this guy "Chris" who answered the phone didn't verbally respond but instead slammed down the receiver on her. Things happen to your car. It's usually when it's the most inconvenient time. Need to be anywhere. It's a perfect time for your car to start acting up like a child having a fit. Either screaming or holding it's breath. Our Prius was doing both. A friend referred BNC. We called and made a quick visit to determine the issue. When we pulled up, we noticed vehicles all over the place. Most of them seemed to be with BNC. COVID times limit spacing so we wait outside. As luck would have it, I see a coworker! He's picking up his truck. What's the big deal? He's a professional safety and training person for commercial purposes. Basically, he's got direct access to commercial mechanics. Since he's here, it confirms a good choice. We used these guys to replace the battery pack. They were kind enough to make sure we had a rental. Fantastic! First of all it was not easy to find a shop willing to do my repair: braze a metal gas tank. (Toyota Land Cruiser) The first repair did not survive the offroading in Anza Borrego. I went back and suggested to do the repair a bit differently - based on reading on i8mud forum. Mr Rusty took the advice and repaired it at no cost. Still 5 star service and 5 star guys. Steve impressed me the last time he worked on my car (replaced hybrid battery with refurbished hybrid battery). So when my dashboard lit up with every known warning light, including the "red triangle of death" as it's referred to in online Prius chats, I was freaking out (internally). I had my car towed there first thing Monday morning and THEN called Steve (owner I think). He is so awesome. The refurbished battery he'd installed last year was like a WEEK out of warranty. So what did he do? He worked it out so that it was back IN warranty. No other shop would have done that, period. He wants his customers to be happy, and that I am. Oh, and he was saying "ok so keep an eye on your fluids etc.," and I was like "idk how to keep an eye on my fluids," and he said "I know, that's what you have me for, just bring it by and we'll check them and top you off if they need it, ok?" To be honest I've had boyfriends who haven't gone out of their way for me like he has. He's a VERY busy man, but he ALWAYS makes time for me when I have car issues. He's like that. I've been taking my vehicles to Steve at BNC since the late 90's. Back then I was limited to driving the kind of cars that people would give away - and Steve was able to keep me safely on the road, doing the work that needed to be done but not selling me on stuff that might be nice but I couldn't afford. Once I was able to drive a new car, Steve got my business rather than the dealer because I trust him. Now it's a mix - he keeps our newer cars in great shape and our kids' 'beaters' running safe and sound. I called Steve on Monday asking if I could drop my 2005 Highlander off Thursday morning to have the headlight checked. For the past few months, the driver's side low beam light would flicker on and off. Luckily I don't drive at night too often. I dropped the car off and he and another mechanic looked at the bulb which was good; however the plug was corroded and I opted to have it replaced. Two hours later, the new plug had been installed and the rest of the light system checked for any other problems. One brake light bulb was out and replaced. Update: My kids are now 10 and 8, I am in my 30s and I have been taking my car to Steve exclusively since I was like 20 years old. I pledge my car mechanic loyalty to Steve not just because I trust him completely & he has always taken care of my car (and now hubby's car) but because he gives a crap about what I am driving & the safety of my family. He is legit a good dude. I towed my car in to his shop to get the ever dreaded news I need a new transmission. He advises me to get a new car...in which I immediately started looking. If I could give 10 million stars, I would. Fun fact about me, I have not had parents in over 10 years now, so I greatly appreciate mom or dad advice I do get from people I come across in life. Steve gave me quick advice on getting a bank loan etc. & told me my numbers not to budge on. Took the wifes 2001 MR2 to BNC as it was overheating badly. They had to end up taking the heads off and completely disassembling the engine. This is a huge undertaking, due to the level of dis-assembly as well as the general construction of the car. While they were in there they replaced the water pump, timing chain and guides [one was broken], as well as a cam timing valve that was also broken in half. During the entire ordeal did Steve ever seem concerned about the level of tear down that had to be done or anything else. This level of confidence put me at ease. Let me tell you they can back it up as well. We got the car back and it runs better than it ever has. Steve doesn't try to up sell you on a bunch of junk that you don't need or try to over-hype how bad a situation might be just to get you to spend money. He's actually honest and does a great job. I'm terribly skeptic about mechanics and hate dealing with them because I'm just not sure if I am going to get the job done right or if they will do something else to the vehicle to make me have to come back and do more work in 500 miles, as has happened with other places. But BNC definitely does not give off that vibe and it shows in their work. I recommend them highly and plan to take both of our cars here for the foreseeable future. Thanks Steve, and team!! Pretty much zero. Shit show of a supposed honest good mechanic. I figured they would be worth their higher price. I was wrong. I spent thousands on repairs that they were even causing trying to do the initial work. My vehicle runs worse than it ever has! Bizarre Stories of parts broken off and maladjustment by previous mechanics they said. Old shotty fuel line reused. Extra hose clamps dangling everywhere. No mats. Grease everywhere. An impacted garage bent on high output regardless of quality. Very dissatisfied. Don't believe the hype. You will pay dearly. Way over their head and couldn't even admit it. Not qualified to do professional work. I can't trust anything they touched. I'm getting it all checked by a qualified professional mechanic now. read more

Steve was recommended to me by another shop in the same complex. My wife's Subaru Outback wagon had recently gotten the head gaskets replaced, and it just wasn't running correctly. The Stealership in Kearny Mesa couldn't figure out the problem, but was more than willing to throw unnecessary and unrelated parts at it and bill accordingly. Steve took the car and figured out that the valves were never adjusted correctly after the heads were redone. Car runs beautifully now. I also took my 2001 Corvette to Steve for the big job of resealing the entire motor to get rid of some oil leaks. The motor was pulled, all new gaskets installed, the heads were redone including all new intake valves, and several parts were replaced simply because they had 100K miles on them and I did not want to put them back on, like the water pump, timing chain, and radiator. Steve even let me take some parts home and paint them before the engine was reassemble. What shop does that!? It took a few weeks but was well worth the wait. I ended up spending more on parts than I did for labor, which is unheard of. Steve and his crew are great guys that you can trust. Be sure to give the shop puppy a biscuit when you stop in, and tell him Scott with the Corvette recommended him. read more

Brought my Honda Element in for an oil leak. Other place wanted to replace head gasket, but Rusty diagnosed it to just the valve cover gasket and camshaft end caps. Saved me from unnecessary repairs. BnC seems to be very honest and only fix what really needs to be fixed. They are not trying to sell you or talk you into all kind of repairs. Steve/Jason were awesome to work with. Great attitude and willingness to help. I had a frozen front differential drain plug that I could not remove as it was slightly stripped. Took it to Toyota stealership to see if they could loosen the plug for me and they could not do it. They said it would need to be drilled out and install a new plug. They quoted me 250 dollars for this job. I felt I could work with a local welder to weld on a nut so I could remove it. Found BNC and Steve was able to do the job without welding within 20 min. Gave me a fair price for this job. I'm a DIYer, but I will go to Steve for any of my future car requirements. Thanks guys. read more

Honestly, these guys are freaking awesome! I drive a '12 Tundra and I had a 5" lift put on my truck by another really good shop but have had some problems with the alignment on my truck because of it. I met Mike and asked if i could bring my truck down for him to look at. Put my truck on the lift and saw the so-called alignment Toyota of Poway did was way off. They claimed they aligned it the best they could. Steve called in a favor to the alignment shop he uses and they got me in. This is all pretty late in the day and most shops are closing up for the night. My truck drives like a champ that he is thanks to the guys at BnC.
