Really wanted to like this spot, but the BBQ unfortunately fell short. I ordered the brisket and ribs, and both were extremely dry. It was definitely not the tender, juicy texture you hope for when getting BBQ. The one bright spot was the mac and cheese, which was actually pretty good and had a nice creamy texture. This place understands BBQ on a spirittual level. The meat was perfectly smoked, juicy, packed with flavor, and clearly made with patience, expertise and love. While my mac & cheese was a touch oily (there was separation) the greens were well seasoned and anything but bland. Truly, everything disappeared way too fast. The sides definitely weren't an afterthought (a rare and beautiful thing), and the service matched the food--warm, thoughtful and welcoming. After a bit of a TikTok dive ( I found myself wanting bbq. Immediately, Bo Dadddy's popped into my head as I remember loving them. The first and only time I had them was during Covid as the clinic I received my first vaccine was just around the corner from here. I didn't expect to find a legit BBQ spot in the Fashion District of LA but here it is! Bo Daddy's offers a great selection of smokes meats. I tried the brisket and baby back ribs. Both were excellent. The ribs had a great bite to them and not a soupy mess. The bark was ok, but the underlying smoke was on point. The brisket was also solid, offering a rich well rendered bite of smokey beefy goodness. I was glad to see none of this was chopped up and served in a sea of BBQ sauce. This pitmaster knows his BBQ meat speaks for itself. The sides are also quite good. I was surprised by the collared greens, which can often taste bitter. I went to Bo Daddy's at around 6:30 and the gentleman told me they had sold out of food but had another location up the street at 833 Hill I was heartbroken and hungry! I couldn't tell if that the second location had the same menu so I was sitting in my car scrolling......and the guy came out to my car with a plate of chicken to go for me! I cannot tell you how much that meant to me. He really didn't have to do it and he would not take a dime off of me for it. It was such a true kindness without expectation and I was grateful. Of course, I went up the street to their second location (which serves pretty much everything the original location serves). I got the chicken, rib tips, ribs, Mac and cheese and greens. I wanted to like this place so bad. We made a call in order and ordered Ribs, Chicken and Links with 3 Sides Potato salad, Collard Greens and Baked Beans. We we're told it was going to be 30 minutes which is a reasonable time for the amount of food we are getting. When we arrive we walked up and no one was there to greet us for about 3-5 minutes, when someone did come and greet us, it was a quick pop out from the back and a push back on time for another 15 minutes so now we are at 45 minutes waiting. After the 45 minutes of waiting I went back and checked again only to be sent away to wait an additional 30 minutes. This was a game of hurry and wait. Came back to the window food was still not ready but we waited this long so no point in going away now. An additional 10 minutes went by and finally our food was in our hands and paid for. That would all be forgivable if the food was good. Unfortunately, our chicken was cooked on high it looked like and the wood that was used must of been burning at a very high temp. It came out black and almost gave the chicken a greenish tint. It left all of us with an uneasy stomach. The ribs were decent nothing to write home about and the links sadly had no snap and felt like i was eating boiled hotdogs. The star of the show was the BBQ sauce, I can't lie here, they know how to make a great bbq it hit every profile you want in a sauce. Bold spice, Sweet undertone and a strong smoke flavor that is good on anything. Overall, it let me down I was hoping the wait was gonna produce great bbq but it fell short and landed me a stomach ache and lighter pocket. Probably a 4 - 4.5 but I had to round up for this wonderful spot. You can tell from the bare bones set up that this is old school BBQ without the unnecessary frills. I called ahead to order the rib tips but they didn't have any. Apparently it's tough to find consistent supply. That goes for other meats, too. I ended up ordering the 3 meat combo with beef ribs, baby back and sausage link. It took about 30 minutes total. So, I suggest calling ahead to check if they're open, what meats they have and place the order to save time. Beef ribs were exceptionally good!! Sausage link was cooked just right and had flavor. Baby backs were good, too. Slightly dry but not a problem. Sides were mixed: The beans had ground meat and was tasty but very, very sweet. If you don't have diabetes before, you did after you finished this. Potato salad had a bit too much mustard. Overall, this is probably one of, if not the, best legitimate BBQ spots in all of LA. We were very glad to see that Bo was still there holding his ground!! We got two meat combo this time with baby back ribs and tri tip. For sides we picked potato salad and collard greens. It was still good as hell and we wished we had more tummy rooms for other meat selections. If you are in DTLA and haven't tried Bo's BBQ, you really should. Very friendly person behind the counter and prices are reasonable. It would be nice to have a place eat but this is takeaway only. As for the BBQ itself, well, it's very much mid. The smoke is a little sharp (dirty smoke) and the meats (ribs, brisket, beef rib) were all stringy and dryer than I would like. This isn't a carefully made product. Mind you, I have had infinitely worse. But the problem with barbecue (a little like fried food) is that you feel so crappy after you eat it that you want the experience itself to have been worth the price you pay in the long run. This doesn't do that. It isn't terrible but it's just not great (and I say this as someone who has eaten a lot of BBQ all over the country and makes it on his own offset as an amateur. The sides that i had, greens and potato salad were again fine, but not great. The potato salad is pure mayo which was a little overwhelming and the greens were not bad but had sugar added which I didn't particularly like (though I did like the vinegar part of the equation). This guy who owns and operates the facility clearly cares a great deal and takes extreme pride in his craft ...and it shows when you open the package. I've had the rack of ribs and even when I got all the way home 20min away it was still some of the Best BBQ I've ever had right out the foil container. I predominantly run the lunch special: ($15 or so) Brisket, Bbq Beans, and either Mac or Greens I have not been let down yet. *Unsolicited tip: Good BBQ takes time and he's a legit one man band, doing everything behind the scenes, so place your order in advance and let him know you'll give him an extra 5-10min before arriving. The WORST BBQ ever! I am from Texas so I know good BBQ and this is 0 stars. The meat has no flavor and no smoke taste at all. It tasted boiled. The BBQ sauce was straight vinegar with red color and no flavor. The greens were not cooked and had a very strong vinegar taste. The baked beans with the meat tasted like can beans with cooked ground beef with no seasoning. While the staff were friendly the food was terrible.
