I've been going to Bo Lings my whole life, plaza location especially. I've always loved it. Best Chinese food in kc area. Service has always been great. I like to modern vibe. When I learned that it was bought out by Vinzant I was nervous for the future of this place. Nothing against Vinzant, just worried for the restaurant I love so much. I went like a month or two after they reopened and didn't love the experience. The food especially just wasn't the same at all. But it's been some time now. I've been back 3 times in the last few months--two work events and again tonight on my own. Whatever wasn't working before, is resolved. My son chose this spot for lunch, and overall, I'd say it was okay. It wasn't the best Chinese food I've had, but definitely not the worst either. The portion sizes were great and very filling, but the flavor just wasn't there for me. My son enjoyed his meal more than I did. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was great. Bo Lings is one of my favorite places in Kansas City. The revive is always friendly and I absolutely love how the restaurant is styled. It's a darker atmosphere with an upscale feeling, yet moderate prices. I'm basic, and beef and broccoli is my usual go to, since it can never disappoint. The dumplings are also well done. read more

Curbside pickup is still convenient & fast for Asian Heritage formerly Bo Lings. Placed the order (Shrimp rolls and Shrimp Fried rice) over the phone with specific request to include sweet and sour sauce but no duck or other sauce. We don't like to waste food. Bo Lings is one of my go to places for Chinese food in Kansas City and the quality never lacks. Their cashew chicken is my favorite dish (maybe ever??) and it is consistently delicious which really matters to me with Chinese food. My partner is loyal to their steamed soup dumplings and swears they are to die for. Flavor wise, this place is phenomenal. Service was a little slow, but not in a way that ruined anything. Once the food landed hot and delicious, we were too happy to care. The only downside was the smell inside this location. There was a strong sewage stink the whole time and it definitely took away from the dining in experience. Because of that, I probably would not come back to this location, but Bo Lings food overall is amazing and absolutely worth trying. If you come here and are sensitive to smells.. maybe just get takeout because the food is worth it here! read more

I haven't been to Bo lings in forever and thought I'd give them a go with their new revamp becoming heritage by Bo lings. I went for their Monday happy hour and was pleasantly suprised at the offerings and prices for their HH. I got the crab Rangoons and dumplings to start on their HH menu with the spiked seltzer. Our waitress could have been a bit more accommodating with how plating food was done given the allergies mentioned. I ordered the general taos and had to remind the waitress to bring out the rice that was included in the meal after 30 min of receiving it. I was kinda disappointed with my overall experience here given the new revamp of management. While the happy hour menu is great, I feel the flavor profiles don't necessarily compete with the other Asian spots in Kansas City. read more

Bo Lings is usually a safe bet for service and tasty food but New Years Day was unusual. We were seated quickly at 2:40 pm but it was then a 15 min wait for drink orders and yet another 10-15 min for the appetizer order. The steamed dumplings were over cooked, leading to a deconstructed dumpling :-) the taste just wasn't up to par with the MANY times we have been to Bo Lings. As well the cost has went up so much and the over 10% KC tax is way too much. Overall will try again but honestly stepping out to Platte City or another burb is just as good these days, unfortunately. read more

It seems Bo Lings has really stepped up its game with the new renovations! Looks NOTHING like the pictures you see on yelp. The new interior is absolutely stunning--perfect for special family gatherings, date nights, or when you're simply in the mood for something a little more upscale. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with an elevated touch that makes dining here feel like an experience. Service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. And...The dim sum! Easily the best I've had in KC. While it doesn't quite reach the legendary status of Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong, it comes close enough to curb the craving. Mind you, if you're a true dim sum fanatic, this might be a bit disappointing. But TRULY, the best dim sum you'll find in KC. My recs: * turnip cake (10/10) made me reminisce my Hong Kong days * Shrimp Wrapped in Rice Paper (9/10) sauce was a bit too sweet * xiao long bao (5/10) scratched the itch but came nowhere close to the real stuff. rakar's tastes better. * singaporean noodles (6/10) too spicy and had a grainy taste. They don't care if their customers loose as long as they win every single little penny they can out of their pockets. E.g. if you want to substitute broccoli for carrots because you're allergic: cha-ching, that'll be an additional $3 (more than an entire bunch of broccoli, or bag of frozen), or maybe just cut out the carrots and add more zucchini: $3...more than three individual squash. The newer restaurant / management has dramatically pared down the dim sum menu to almost not existence. We ordered xia long bao which came out completed raw. The manager was in denial at first however ended up bringing replacements and comp'd us. Overall service was rough and food was mediocre. read more

Checked out Heritage Bo Ling's after their remodel and the place looks amazing! Their new bar is perfect for happy hour after work and their menu is even better. My server, Daniel, was very friendly and attentive. He did a great job explaining the menu and making recommendations. We ordered the edamame, crab rangoon, and the Vegas Roll, along with a glass of rosé. The rosé had a nice, balanced flavor (much better than I've had at some other places), and the Vegas Roll was also good. The restaurant has a quiet, relaxing atmosphere, and around 6:00 PM it started filling up for dinner. The interior is actually larger than it appears from the outside, and the ambiance is very nice. My husband found this place while I was shopping at the Country Club Plaza! We are from Texas and have our favorite local spots, but was excited after seeing their menu! Oh my how far we've fallen. I was looking forward to taking guests here after my event and was severely disappointed, but couldn't show it. I didn't know until I entered the restaurant that this Bo Lings location is now co-owned(?) by another management company. The only good thing about this restaurant anymore is that the decor has stayed the same. Had I known the food would be bland, soggy, and undercooked I would have opted to go to PF Chang's instead where it's consistent. Hell, even Panda Express would have had better food. The food here was not good at all. Tasted worse than a microwave meal. Server became combative with us right off the bat because he was told by the hostess that there would be 10 guests and we were confused because there were only 6 of us when he brought out 10 drinks. We never had 10 people with us, nor were we ever expecting more people to join. So either there was a miscommunication between the restaurant worker or the man was delusional and imagining things, which doesn't matter. Learn how to keep your frustrations to yourself when working in the service industry. Would not be back here. My guests will not be back here. When my other friends asked where we went out to eat after my event I replied, "We went to Bo Lings on the Plaza, but the food is terrible now." I'm sorry I even suggested this place. read more

I was looking for a good dim sum place in Kansas City and Bo Lings is very promising! There is limited parking in the plaza around the area but there is a parking garage across from Panera that is a pretty short walk to the restaurant. We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly not busy. Since there wasn't a lot of people, it was clean and had overall quiet vibes! There were plenty of servers to help us and refill our waters. Food also came out quickly after we ordered. To order, you make the menu with how many orders of each dish you want, so it's not traditional push cart. The food came out hot and was seasoned very well. Been going to Bo Lings for over 2 decades now, still miss the original location in the Board of Trade Buidling, but it never disappoints. There aren't too many options for good dim sum in the city but this is at the top of the list. If you've never had dim sum, it's a Chinese style meal including classic dishes that are served on small plates and you choose a la carte style. Prior to the pandemic they would bring the food around on carts, but that has since changed and you order everything up front. In terms of food, standouts always includes the Siu mai (shrimp/pork dumplings), baked and steamed bbq buns, mixed noodles dish, sliced bbq pork, and har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings). If you are feeling adventurous you can order items such as chicken feet and tripe. On the sweeter side we always love the fried sesame seed balls and the mango pudding, also the egg custard tarts. Bo Lings has been owned by the same family since the beginning and has been a tradition for my family to eat dim sum on a Saturday or Sunday day. There is nothing better than sitting at these tables sharing food with your family. They are also open for lunch and dinner with classic Chinese American dishes. I had a to go order of generals chicken and crab rangoon yesterday. It was supposed to be ready around 625 which is when I got there. It was busy per usual and my order wasn't ready so I waited. No big deal. They have a nice waiting area. About ten minutes go by and they call my name and when I go to get my order the expo noticed something wrong and returned the bag to the kitchen. I didn't ask any questions and I just continued to wait. A long line ensued and a manager had to jump in to get all the orders out. It got hectic quick and my order got lost in the shuffle. I stood there unnoticed and I asked about my order. We're at twenty minutes now. "Is the order for Paul B ready?" Politely the holster bearing rim glasses wearing manager asked for the name and I told him. Then he had an epiphany, "wait, are you a door dash driver?" Yes I answered. His demeanor and tone shifted immediately. Mind you there is no more line, all the orders are gone and no one is in the to go lobby except me. This dude has no idea about my order, what happened, how long I'd been waiting. He knew nothing and then he belittled me. He thought so little of me because I'm a door dash driver. "How long were you told the wait would be?" he asked. I said she didn't give me a wait time and I tried to explain and he shooed me away. "Ok well go sit over there and we'll let you know when it's ready." I'll stay right here! They figured it out. I got the order. I was slightly offended though. I said I'm just trying to do what your company signed up for and deliver food, you don't have to be a jerk. He goes, "ok well go do your job!" Shooing me off again! I say FU pal and I give him the bird. He instantly grabs the third party tablet to cancel me no doubt, which sucks because I pick up a lot. If your restaurant is failing in anyway in customer service, staff retention and training it's because your "leader" is abusive. This is probably happening everyday and will happen again. Had a dinner for 4 people here on 12/29/2024 for my mother's birthday. Was kind of a special occasion and we were all visiting KC from other places so every meal was chosen carefully. I heard this place was super good and we were so excited to eat here. Sadly, the food was disappointing, and the waiter overcharged me on the tip. Not a place I would recommend. The details -- We found the food to be very salty and extremely oily, and many of the dishes had the same generic "brown sauce" and the same flavor. We ordered seven dishes and only liked one of them: the LONG LIFE NOODLE SOUP ($18, and it was excellent). The other dishes were average to meh, no better if not worse than Panda Express. The meh dishes were: COMBO LO MEIN ($18), HOT & SOUR SOUP ($8 for a small bowl), LETTUCE WRAP ($12), MONGOLIAN BEEF (18), MOO SHU ($17), AND SAUTEED MIXED VEGGIES ($16). We had a full table of food and nobody wanted to eat any of it. They only took a couple of bites and just stared down a their plates sadly, not sure what to do with all of this food. We ended up taking it home and trying to eat it later. Our waiter, Jason, was fine. He didn't do much but I wanted to give him a decent tip despite the fact that we didn't like the food and that he didn't do anything special after taking our order and seeing that we ate just about none of it. I gave him a 15% tip. With tax and tip, the meal was exactly $145 and I kept my receipt as I always do. After I got my credit card bill, I see that Jason decided to give himself another $5 on the tip. He rounded my bill to $150 instead of $145. Dude, you didn't earn a 19% tip and also WTF you can't steal from people like that. I have called the restaurant and they were sympathetic but told me to "call back later in the week when the manager is there" instead of fixing the issue promptly. Do you really need your Owner/Manager to fix the issue? Well, now I'm sharing the experience with everyone in KC. I ordered takeout from Bo Ling takeout while at a conference in Kansas City. I got the Singaporean styled noodles with shrimp and it was a generous portion. While the texture of the rice noodles and the shrimp were wonderful, there was a bit too much curry powder and it made the dish taste unpleasantly grainy in texture.
