    Crab rangoon

I came to Asian Cafe to have lunch with a friend. We both had pho for our main - beef for me and chicken for them. We also split an order of the crab rangoon which were crunchy and golden on the outside but very creamy on the inside. We didn't realize until we were leaving that there were lunch specials (not advertised on their menu) but I would like to come back and try one of their combos.

Had lunch in here recently. The food was okay I got the orange chicken. The portion was good for what I paid for just felt like the flavor was kinda lacking. Service was great though lady that served me was a sweetheart. And the restaurant overall was really clean. So overall I would come here again and just order something different.

This place took over the old Red Dragon so it definitely gave me memories coming here. I feel like this might be a place that not a lot of people know about but they definitely should. They serve Vietnamese and Chinese food but I stuck with the Vietnamese food this time around. I ordered the bo luc lac or Vietnamese shaking beef. This is the only place in town that I know that serves this dish so I had to get it. The beef was tender and flavorful and went well with all the veggies except the cucumber which had an extremely unpleasant bitter taste. Other than that the dish was great. The crab Rangoons also hit the spot. Give it a try if you're in the area!

If you are a fan of pho, this is the restaurant for you. We had the Phi Tai and it was best pho I've had in a long time. The meat was tender, not chewy like a lot of places. The ingredients were clearly fresh. The jasmine tea is actually made from tea leaves. Service was fantastic and the ambiance is great - exposed brick and lots of natural light. Prices were reasonable on top of it all.

The food was fantastic, one of the best Asian places I've ever been too! We were invited by friends here and when they said it was amazing they weren't lying. The place is quiet and gives off wonderful vibes, and not to mention the service. The waiters and waitresses are so kind and make the place feel welcoming. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

** Best chicken wings in town! Perfectly battered and chicken meat was moist. Love the ginger seasoning. ** Shrimp eggrolls were perfectly fried, and I love the golden crispy eggroll skin. I am so happy to see Asian Cafe in this neighborhood! They did a really nice job renovating the space. Probably one of nicest looking Vietnamese restaurant in Kansas City. The young gentlemen who was our server was friendly and attentive. He constantly refilled our water and asked if anything else was needed. Everything we ordered were super tasty and great flavors. I hope this restaurant stay around for a while. Will be back to try other items.

After having the best pho of my life a few weeks ago, it's hard to give Asian Cafe anything higher than 3 stars. Although my young male server was efficient and professional and it's always wonderful to eat in repurposed century old garment district building; the food was about as generic as their name. My beef pho had no pizzazz or hearty flavor, just the basics and a small amount of un-flavorful slices of beef. If I was making this at home, I'd be satisfied, but when I'm spending $26 - with tax and tip - for this and a Vietnamese coffee, I really expect something a bit more memorable and above average. If I lived in the neighborhood...sure, but I probably won't venture back to sample the rest of the menu when i know there are much better options elsewhere for what I was served today.

Just opened in the old Red Dragon House location in downtown Kansas City. (No relationship, but the owner, Joseph, did work for the old RDH owners as a chef long ago) Soft opening this week, so I expect things may change in the next few weeks or months. I always start with Kung Bao (Kung Pao, Chicken with peanuts, etc.) at new Chinese-based restaurants and the offering here did not disappoint. Portion was good, plenty of chicken prepared well, good balance of vegetables vs meat. Gravy/sauce was basic, surprisingly not spicy at all (no peppers present) but still good, though not great. Rice was stickier than most basic offerings in a good way, and while the rice portion was smaller than most, I was offered more if desired. There's no lunch menu yet, so be prepared for an entree price. There are some Vietnamese offerings I plan to try in the future (Pho, Bun and others). Atmosphere is very clean and remodeled. Bathrooms on the same level and inside the restaurant itself. So far so good, and I plan to go back ... probably too much!

Great quality and quantity of food; fried rice, string rolls and beef pho are my go-to comfort foods.

The food was great. We ordered General Tso's chicken and chicken fried rice. Both dishes were excellent. We'll definitely return.

Food ok but very pricey for what you get. Note that the "crab" in the pho is imitation.

We got Vietnamese iced coffees, crab rangoons, spring rolls, and pho. The pho I had was rich in flavor for the broth. You can tell it was boiled for awhile. The noodles were cooked perfectly! Not soggy at all and had a good bite to them. The veggies were nice and crisp too! Crab rangoons, I have no ill words for them. Just a standard rangoon that was well made. Not oily at all. Their peanut sauce that went with the spring rolls was thicker than the places that I am used to. I must say I actually prefer this locations peanut sauce over the ones I have had in my home state. 10/10! Will come again.

The staff was doing the best they could to keep up with the crowd, and everyone was friendly and courteous. The food was good overall. The pho had a good, flavorful broth, and the hủ tiếu mì khô was also well-seasoned with good flavor. They accidentally forgot our sweet potato dish, but with how busy they were, we decided not to wait any longer. The cà phê sữa đá was excellent--the balance of strong coffee and sweet condensed milk was just right. The bánh mì was decent as well. The bread was perfectly toasted and had a nice crust, though I do wish it had a little more meat. Overall, it was a good lunch experience. I think I'd come back after the crowds settle down a bit so we can try more of the menu at a more relaxed pace.

The restaurant was very nice--tastefully decorated with authentic touches that felt intentional and refined. The large canvas artwork added character without overwhelming the space. It struck a perfect balance: elegant but comfortable. The staff was attentive, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were patient and accommodating, especially with our little one, which always makes a difference when dining out with family. We started with the sampler platter, which included fresh spring rolls, crispy spring rolls, and a variety of other traditional bites. Everything was prepared well--the fresh rolls were vibrant and clean tasting, while the crispy rolls had a satisfying crunch without being greasy. For entrées, my wife ordered the Vietnamese pork chop with the perfectly runny egg over broken rice. The pork was well-seasoned and cooked just right, and that egg brought everything together beautifully. I ordered the Bánh Mì and a bowl of pho. The pho had the perfect level of spice--balanced, aromatic, and comforting. The broth had depth, and you could tell it was crafted with care. The Bánh Mì was equally impressive; the baguette was toasted just right--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside--holding all the flavors together without overpowering them. What truly stands out is that Broken Rice delivers this level of quality without being overly expensive. It's a great value for authentic, well-executed Vietnamese cuisine. And most importantly--our niece enjoyed herself too, which says a lot. I would absolutely recommend Broken Rice to anyone looking for a satisfying, authentic dining experience in a warm and welcoming atmosphere

We did enjoy the shrimp, spring rolls, but were slightly disappointed that the peanut sauce was very watery. The menu had a good variety, but most of the dishes involved pork, very few involved chicken. Tofu dishes were also an option. The chicken pad Thai was very tasty; rather than cooking the dish to a persons heat specification, they just provide extra chili powder on the plate if you wanted to make it spicier. The main reason for the low review would be the cleanliness of the restaurant. On the table were a variety of spices and sauces in various containers, but they didn't look like they had been cleaned or changed in several uses, so we did not use or investigate to know exactly what things were.
