First time I had this dish. It was good, but there are too many chili peppers. Service was good. Also had the hot and sour soup, which was mid. Overall good experience.

This past winter we were on the hunt to try out a new (to us) local Chinese restaurant for carry out and Sichuan Dynasty came recommended. We placed our order over the phone and I went to pick it up when it was scheduled to be ready. This place is located in a strip mall in the heart of Overland Park, and I was pleasantly surprised to see it BUSTLING with activity. It was packed with families dining in and people picking up to-go orders. I could tell that the folks working were likely the owners, and it just had this great energy to the place that made me feel like I was really supporting a nice local business. They identify you by your phone number when you pick up and then you pay and you're on your way. So why 4/5 stars? The food was excellent, and the experience was great but honestly I felt it was kind of pricey for Chinese take out. I know we will go back as it was good and a nice change of pace from the ones right next door to us, but the flavors weren't so much improved to merit the increase in price for us.

I'll start with the negatives first to leave on a positive note. The service was not good. We sat down and it took the waitress 20 minutes to come back and take our order after she was on her phone for 15 of the 20 minutes. When we ordered our waitress was very short and snippy. She kept saying "okay" after every item we ordered and I was trying to order 1 out of the 2 things I ordered and she almost walked away from me before I was able to order it. My partner and I ordered 2 sprites and not once but TWICE by TWO different people they kept pouring water in our glasses instead of just asking us what the drink was to be sure. We had ate and been sitting for a good 10 minutes before I decided I was ready to leave and had to call over to the waitress twice because she wasn't paying attention to me. There's no way I could give a 5 out of 5 star review with service like this. And to make matters worse, the restaurant was empty. To leave on a positive note the food was absolutely delicious. Some of the most delicious and fresh Chinese food I've had in a long time. The quality of the food did not lack or disappoint. A bit disappointing considering that the food was to die for! Willing to give it a try again sooner or later.

This is a real good restaurant for Szechuan-style food. We ordered a mess of things to try different dishes. We got the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce, Sautéed Green Beans Sichuan Style, Gong Bao Tofu, Eggplant with Sweet Bean Sauce and the Sautéed Sliced Lotus Roots. Everything was well prepared and all the portions are large enough to share. The eggplant and the green beans were particularly good. Service was prompt and pleasant, prices are competitive. Plenty of parking up front.

SD was recommended by friends and it was terrific advice for a family dinner. Noodles, spicy beef, chives, soup dumplings and more. The spice level was American-medium ... a good choice for a first visit. Next time, more pepper, please. Staffers were very happy to see our Mandarin-speaking group ... and became aunties for the 5 YO. Will I return? Yes, but I seldom visit metro-KC since retiring.

Sichuan Dynasty is hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant in Kansas! I came here for dinner and, as always, the food did not disappoint. I ordered some of my go-to dishes: the Milk & Honey Shrimp, Beef Chow Fun, Water Spinach, Chicken with Smoked Dry Tofu, and Mapo Tofu. Every single dish was packed with flavor, cooked perfectly, and so satisfying. The Milk & Honey Shrimp was crispy and lightly sweet without being overwhelming, and the Beef Chow Fun had that perfect smoky "wok hei" flavor that's hard to find. The Water Spinach was fresh and garlicky, and has a great balance to the richer dishes. The Chicken with Smoked Dry Tofu is one of my favorites, a great dish to order if you have kids. And the Mapo Tofu had just the right level of spice and numbing heat. Service is always friendly and efficient, and even when the restaurant gets busy, the food comes out in a reasonable time. If you haven't checked them out yet, I highly recommend giving them a try. It's truly a gem and easily my top choice for authentic, consistently delicious Chinese food in the area!

I always have a great dining experience at Sichuan Dynasty. First, the staff are friendly, attentive, and fast. I came at a very busy time and would say I got my food within 15 minutes of ordering. My table of 4 ordered the Water Spinach, Milk & Honey Crispy Shrimp, Beef Cilantro & Peppers, Cold Noodles, and Mapo Tofu. The flavors and quality of the dishes here are great. If you are looking for an appetizer, I highly recommend the cold noodles, as it has great texture covered in a light, flavorful peanut sauce. The water spinach is a great veggie option to pair with the main dishes. The milk and honey crispy shrimp is my personal favorite. The sauce is on the sweeter side and pairs harmoniously with the crispy shrimp. The beef cilantro and peppers would be a great option for those that like some heat as it has jalapeños mixed in. Excited to try their other menu items!

    Mapo tofu

This restaurant has the authentic Chinese restaurant vibe. The servers has always been very nice whenever I go here. The mapo tofu was very good and flavorful, I also had the fish in Sichuan chili broth and that very delicious as well. This place is one of the better authentic Chinese restaurants in Kansas City.

Is this the same restaurant that was once located on Strangline in Olathe? Next to Joe's KC BBQ?

Yes, this is the same restaurant. However, given the move, there have been some changes. They no longer do a lunch buffet, and the "original menu" has been changed somewhat.…

By the time I grabbed our food and headed back out, the front spots had already opened up again. We did two lunch specials for around $20 total, which feels like a steal for how much food you get and how good it was. We ordered the Chicken with Cashew and the General Tso's lunch specials, both came with soup and a side. The cashew chicken was seriously incredible. A lot of places overload this dish with veggies until it turns into chaos, but this one was balanced with the right mix of ingredients and is easily one of my new favorites in KC. Only bummer: hardly any cashews. Still delicious, but I wanted a little more cashew love. Crab rangoons were hot and crispy with a solid filling even after a bit of a drive home. The fried rice had great flavor, and the steamed white rice was bouncy and soft, not that kind with crispy dry edges. Both soups were spot on, and THANK YOU for including wonton strips. A lot of places skip them and it really can make or break egg drop soup for me. General Tso's had great flavor, but the chicken pieces were a little big and it wasn't very spicy, even though we didn't order it no spicy. Not a dealbreaker, just something to know if you want that classic kick. Inside is clean and cute with tables for about 8 to 10 small groups, the front desk is toward the back, and everyone was kind and helpful. As an Elite, I also loved seeing their Yelp pride around the restaurant. Overall, super solid lunch specials and I'll absolutely be back!!

It took them a little longer than I was quoted but it wasn't too much longer. The interior was very small with a capacity of 10. They do have a table but that's pretty much it. I would plan on taking it to go just due to space. Everyone was friendly and they made sure my order was correct when it was completed. I went with the beef and broccoli dinner combo. You get either white or fried rice. I went with fried. And it comes with an egg roll and a crab Rangoon. The crab Rangoon was large and had a sweet flavor to it. FYI: They use imitation crab for my friends with shellfish allergies. I also ordered an additional order of Rangoon and I wasn't disappointed with that decision. I think the egg roll was just a veggie one, they do have a pork and chicken option. It was fine but I preferred the Rangoon. I would try the other egg roll options in the future. I also added on a hot mustard sauce. That's a must. It's spicy. The beef and broccoli was really good. The broccoli was fresh and there were a few carrots. The beef was tender and without that weird fatty, gristly stuff. Definitely good quality. The fried rice was a bit plain. It's literally just fried rice, no veggies or egg. But it's also not at an up charge so I can't really complain. I also ordered egg drop soup. It's delicious and such a good value. I highly recommend it. I definitely plan on returning to try a few other menu options.

Their menu consists of a lot of dishes, and some are quite unique .. you don't usually see items like bird's nest dishes at most Chinese restaurants around here except for maybe Bolings. Me and my husband visited on a Saturday night around 8 pm and really devoured our meal. The menu can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you honestly can't go wrong with stir fries at any Chinese restaurant. For appetizers, we ordered chicken egg rolls, which were hefty and filling. For the main course, I ordered the chicken in black bean stir fry, and my husband got the shrimp Kung Pao chicken stir fry. We paired both with steamed rice. The black bean chicken was rich and earthy, with that deep, slightly funky flavor from the fermented black beans. It was very umami, salty and complimented nicely with the fresh, crisp vegetables and well-cooked chicken. I really liked it. The shrimp Kung Pao was spicy and tangy, with perfectly cooked shrimp (the fried shrimp covering was chefs kiss) and crispy veggies. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The egg rolls were about $4 for two pieces, and the stir fries were around $17+ each. The portions are quite large compared to other places in the area, so the pricing seemed reasonable. For 2 main course dishes your bill could easily reach up to $40. Otherwise, The restaurant was clean, the staff was kind, and service was quick. It also wasn't too crowded when we visited. I would rate the service 4/5, mainly because we had to ask for silverware, condiments, and tissues separately. The food, though, is definitely a 5/5. Highly recommended!
