HOWEVER, we made 2 requests, Tom's Choice to come with avocado, and the tuna toasted. MIX-UP. UNFORTUNATELY, the avocado was put on the wrong sandwich. BOARD AND BREW @ DEL MAR Parking is available right out front, with 20-minute parking as well as two-hour free parking. My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday morning and it wasn't too crowded. This location definitely needs some renovation it feels more on the older side but it's still really nice since it's right by the beach. I legit got Board and Brew at UTC La Jolla the day before was excited to get the same thing in a new location. so I ordered the turkey club and my boyfriend got the Italian sub. Those are our go-to's whenever we go to Board & Brew. The sandwich itself was decent, but honestly, I was disappointed. There were literally only two slices of bacon on my turkey club I kid you not, two slices. They placed one slice on each side so you wouldn't notice, but when I opened it up, it was so obvious. It was honestly depressing. There was a good amount of turkey, which I appreciated, but they definitely skimmed on the bacon, and it just wasn't as good as other locations. The staff also weren't very friendly. They weren't talkative at all and it felt like they were just there to get through their shift. I asked for extra sauce and they denied it, saying they were almost out yet I could literally see a whole bucket of sauce behind them. They were super stingy with the sauce and even the napkins. It just didn't feel welcoming. The bathroom is located in the back, and there's plenty of seating both inside and outside. With the beach right there, it's honestly such a nice spot to sit outside when the weather's good. Overall, the location itself kind of saves it, but because of the staff and how they skimped on the ingredients, I personally wouldn't come back to this specific location. read more

Board & Brew is a classic deli shop with a great location in Del Mar Pros: this Del Mar, location of board & brew is a great place for a quick bite next to the beach. It has its own seating inside and outside and the outside seating has umbrellas just in case it gets a little too sunny. There is an abundance of parking on the street that's usually free up to two hours. I went on a Sunday where it wasn't really that busy so finding parking close by was pretty easy. I like this area because it's in between a lot of other small businesses and it's not right on the street. It's kind of tucked away a little bit. It has its own bathroom as well. We even saw a parrot whilst eating haha. I ordered the Italian grinder and my girlfriend ordered the turkey club. Both sandwiches were very tasty and make sure to get sauce with it because the sauce here is really good! Cons: due to the location, if it's busy parking will probably be slim. This is most likely due to it being close to the Del Mar fairgrounds. Verdict: If you want a quick bite to eat there or to go, this is the perfect place for you! Ordered a selection of cold sandwiches, Caesar salad, regular salad & potato salad for my family reunion. Ordering & pickup were easy. They provided napkins & serving flatware. Also provided 4 types of salad dressing for green salad which had egg, cucumber, tomato & croutons. Everyone loved the potato salad, in particular. My faves are the Turkado or the Baja Chicken. I have also seen the double decker - but only select that if you have a large appetite. But I did encounter him, he questioned if I was paying with cash or card-- although I was unsure since I didn't know the price of what I was ordering. I got the Turkey Club (turkey breast, bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, & mayo on French Bread), I asked for No Cheese, it turned out to be $11.50. After paying there wasn't an option for a Reciept (like no print or text msg choice on the screen). To me it seemed like everyone else was waiting for their sandwiches. There wasn't many people behind me like usual, this was around 3:20 pm. When they called my name, they handed me the sandwich nicely wrapped in a bag and gave me a few napkins. I walked to Del Mar City Hall to eat it and found out they didn't add mayo to any side of the bread. This made the sandwich so dry and difficult to get down. The tomatoes were scarcely sliced as well. I haven't drank from drinking fountains since middle school but in order to get through this sandwich I HAD to. That's how dry this sandwich was. Also, they have a "secret sauce" that I find to be quite sweet and do not enjoy -- but others love it. They are fast at making the sandwiches but maybe they need to slow down since the quality they brought out wasn't very good. I've been coming here (to this location) for over 20 years and was surprised that I had not yet left a review! It has nailed the Southern California surf/skate vibe. Even some of the stickers on the walls and other places have been there as long as I have been coming and have gotten covered up or added to over the years. The service has always been hit or miss as far as being "friendly" is concerned (sometimes they are just slammed and no real time for nicities) but one thing I can tell you for sure is that in all the years I've been coming here, they've always gotten my order (usually custom) correct! Now that's impressive. These are among the best sandwiches I've had. I recall the first time I tasted their special sweet and sour sauce--it was like "mind blown" and I've been coming back for it ever since. They even sell it by the bottle now. My only complaints are when they are so busy sometimes they sell out of the bread you want (usually very fresh and delicious), and the soda machine has been inconsistent over the years. Sometimes it's "the best Diet Coke" I've ever had and other times like today it's flat. Overall I highly recommend this place especially if you have out of town guests and are looking for some great sandos to take to the beach. Bring your appetite or prepare to share--each half could be its own full size sandwich! Side note, today I got the Turkey Deluxe which is the first sandwich I ever tried here way back when. I had the strangest experience here on the Fourth of July: the worst customer service of my life, followed immediately by some of the best. My wife, baby, and I were walking through Del Mar and stopped in for a bite. The man at the register greeted me by telling me, without eye contact, that there was no bread so I'd have to get a wrap. When I asked which wrap he recommended, he cursed at me and told me to just get the Baja chicken. When I asked a simple follow-up question, he said "did I f***ing stutter?" As I walked out, he cursed at me again. When I came back in to address it, the staff identified him as Ryan, the son of the owner, Tom. Tom, your son cursed at a customer, unprovoked, multiple times, in front of your own staff. That is who you have at the register. The rest of the team could not have been more different. They were apologetic, respectful, and clearly embarrassed. Sergio in particular went above and beyond: he took my order personally, brought everything out to us where we waited with our dogs, and even included chips, water, and a side of avocado for my baby. Interestingly, when my order came out, it arrived as sandwiches. On bread. So the bread situation apparently resolved itself the moment Ryan was no longer involved. And the food? Genuinely excellent. The Baja beef was one of the best beef sandwiches I've ever had, and the Baja chicken was fantastic too. Sergio and the staff are the reason this place functions, and functions remarkably well. The food deserves five stars. Ryan's behavior deserves zero. And honestly, I feel for Ryan. Nobody talks to strangers that way from a place of peace. I genuinely hope he gets the help he needs. I ordered a California Delight with no mayonnaise at the counter, and they asked for my name. I gave it to them, and ~15 minutes passed and they still had not called my name. I asked them if a California Delight with no mayonnaise was ready, and it had been sitting on the back counter. They had called out everyone else's order, so I was confused as to why mine was not called out. On my order receipt, it said "Called In", which was strange because I ordered at the counter. This is the main reason why I docked stars on the rating. The food itself was pretty enjoyable, the sunflower seeds provided a nice crunch that made the sandwich a lot better than what it would have been without. The cream cheese was also nice, not too heavy. Parking in Del Mar is always a little difficult, so there may be some trouble with that. The bathrooms are a little run down. After spending the morning at Del Mar dog beach and being in the sun, was craving a fresh sando. Just 4 minutes down the road in Del Mar Village, it was a quick stop on the way home. Depending on the time of day, parking can be a little tough, but it's worth it! I've been to their Mira Mesa location, but it was fun to know that Board & Brew originated in Del Mar. There is both indoor and outdoor seating , very causal environment. The front area is a little small so it can be a little confusing who is line to order and who is waiting for their order. Like, I'm used to at least decent vibes when I go out to eat--but this was on a whole different level. First off, the food? Actually really good. No complaints there at all. But the service completely ruined everything. When I was trying to order, the waitress kept cutting me off mid-sentence like she was in a rush or just didn't care what I was saying. It was awkward and honestly kind of disrespectful. Then it got worse. I ordered items that literally never came out... twice. Not once--TWICE. And it's not like the place was insanely busy to justify it. We had to keep trying to get someone's attention, which already felt like a chore the entire night. The situation with my friend was the final straw. She asked for an upgraded substitution, which the waitress seemed to understand at the time. Her food came out fine, but when the bill showed up, she was charged for THREE entrees. When my friend questioned it, the waitress suddenly claimed she never asked for the upgrade--which makes zero sense because she didn't even get the sides that would've come with those extra entrees. Instead of just fixing it, the waitress argued with her and made it into a whole thing, and didn't even offer a full refund for the mistake. It just felt super unprofessional and uncomfortable. Like, mistakes happen, but the way it was handled was honestly worse than the mistake itself. I really wanted to like this place because the food was actually great, but the service made the whole experience not worth it.
