This is probably my favorite brewery in all of San Diego as the views here are pretty sick and you can spot some cool birds while enjoying a beer and some food. I wonder if this is a location on eBird. Yes, I am a dork. I came here years ago while on a business trip and randomly found this place and loved it here. So when a date suggested we come here, I took a look at the venue and remembered what an awesome brewery this is! Date gets some brownie points for chosing this spot, maybe this could go somewhere haha. Parking is a situation here. But if you go past the restaurant, there is some parking on the road and in small lot meant for those enjoying nature. I felt bad taking one of these spots. There is paid public parking on the corner before the restaurant and valet is available at this brewery. I need to figure out another way to get here... On a Sunday afternoon, place had people but it wasnt mobbed. Baseball game and Del Mar horse races were showing on the TVs. But, don't come here to watch TV, look outside! I saw some very good bird action, including an egret doing some weird strutting in the lush greenery. I am bummed I forgot to bring my binoculars but I will be back here again soon with binocs ready! I started off with a hefeweisen and that was good, date had a Mexican lager x 2. I had the ceviche (pretty good) and had the aioli on the side. Date had a sandwich of some kind and copious amounts of fries. It took a lot of will power for me to not have any of those fries, they looked so yummy! I also had a watermelon beer, this had hints of watermelon flavor and I enjoyed it. Great spot for large groups too as there were a few large parties sitting in the "outside" space. Hostess initially asked if we wanted to sit "inside" or "outside," and I was confused as it all looked like outside to me haha. I guess this is SoCal, everything is open air. Seven of us had dinner at Viewpoint last night, reservations for a table right by the lagoon, and the view was really pretty. Valet parking for $6 on site was easy and smooth. The restaurant is really loud when crowded and you can only talk to the person right next to you, but that worked ok in a group of 7 anyway--we just had multiple mini conversations. If you're planning a large group gathering, you might have to play musical chairs to catch up with everyone, unless everyone has naturally loud voices that carry. Most of the people in our group ordered beers, but I ordered a nonalcoholic prickly pear hibiscus ginger beer which was ok--pretty subtle, but it quenches the thirst all the same. I ordered the Farmer's burger (black bean) with added avocado and a side salad which comes with a lemon vinaigrette. I had to eat it with a knife and fork after removing the top bun. Very tasty. My daughter ordered crispy shrimp tacos which she really enjoyed. Most people ordered the backyard burger which looked pretty good--choice of fries or side salad. Our group came here to eat before going to Del Mar opening day. We took the train up and didn't know they didn't open till noon. It was nice that they let us in just to sit prior to opening. They have a variety of items on the menu from burgers to tacos. I enjoyed my Caesar and was happy they had anchovies as an add on. The halibut was a good portion but thought it was a bit dry and a bit bland. I liked their beer variety and had a rice lager called cheep skate which was really good. Came here for the first time for lunch. What an epic location for this place. It's waterfront right on the San Dieguito River. Has a rad view and the the open architecture is perfect for sunny days. Service was solid, absolutely no complaints. Our server was attentive but gave us space and didn't rush us at all. They have a great drink selection (obviously). We both got the Mexican Lager which was light and smooth. Followed that up with the ceviche. We mixed in the house hot sauce which in my opinion elevated it. I got the crispy shrimp tacos. They were good. Kind of overloaded with cabbage but all the flavors were there so no complaints. My cuz got the Thai coconut chicken sando which looked . He said it was good too. All in all. Great place! Parking can be a little tight but there's a city pay lot next door that costs as much as the $6 valet if you're there for any length of time. So keep that in mind. Recently went for lunch. Started with a Mexican lager and shrimp ceviche (be sure to ask for the house hot sauce, it's fire)... The beer was crisp and refreshing... The ceviche was fresh! Plenty of chips and avocado came with it. For the entree, my cousin got the fish tacos with a side salad... He said it was great. I had the coconut curry chicken sandwich. 5/10 - Not good, not bad.... Except on weekends, they closed the parking lot for valet only and the only other lot is paid parking which if the Del Mar fairgrounds has an event charges $4 per hour. The valet and service staff are pretty nice and attentive. Ive eaten here before but this time I only got a flight of beer, which was pretty decent. We also got a few appetizers to share and they were ok, sorta unoriginal and mid- American food and slightly overpriced. One thing to note is that this place isn't a typical San Diego brewery with open seating, it's more of a restaurant. Because of this, and also the parking situation I would rather go to somewhere else that have better beers and better food. There are a few free spots near the hiking trail if you're lucky. 2. Myself and many other guests experienced dirty glasses (lipstick marks). Server said they've been troubleshooting improving it so I hope they figure it out soon. 3. Servers all work together to split sections. Not locals to the area but had some time to kill and decided to stop in. The brewery has ample seating indoors and outdoors and its nice to sit outdoors if the weather is fair. There's a nice view of the lagoon and trail if you choose to sit outdoors. It is about a 10min walk to the bridge. Its dog friendly! I noticed several water bowls throughout the property. Parking was tight. It was a week day, middle of the day so I can't imagine how parking is on the weekends. There were a few free dirt spots down the road a bit but would be hard to find an open one so valet was worth it for me! When you look at this place from the outside, you would have no idea how huge it is inside. From the street it kind of looks like a loading dock, but inside it is modern and sleek with a nice bar, lots of tables, and a patio overlooking the lagoon. It isn't much to behold upon pulling in but, once inside, it's far more spacious than it appears from the outside and has a pretty nice view. They offer up about 30 beers in a nice variety of styles. Yours truly had the Belgian Dubbel and it was quite nice. The food is mostly new American; burgers, sandwiches, some tacos mixed in...charcuterie...you get the idea. My family came here for brunch after some mini golf at Pelly's. We conveniently valet parked for $6. You pay as you leave which was helpful so I could break up a larger bill at the bar. For me, there was just a lot going on and maybe trying too hard across the dishes. I ordered the fish tacos and while the amount of fish was skimpy, the plate was large and I very much enjoyed the citrusy salad that came with the tacos. We saw her take food orders for other people even though we let her know that we were ready. She finally came to take our order. Never came back after our food arrived. I've never been to a brewey where all the parking is valet but maybe its common in California. There is some free parking a few blocks away but its about 6 spots near the park so it fills up fast. Other than that the beers were good and the atmosphere including the view was pretty good. It is open air stretching all the way across the brewery so you can see the view even if you are pretty far inside the brewery. The seating is pretty varried and has space for large groups which is always nice. They have a mug program which I always find as a fun idea. We didnt ask but usually the deal is thay you get a membership and they give you a mug that gives you a discount on all drinks you get. The lockers looked pretty full so im not sure the availability though. The staff was pretty friendly and relatively quick for how full the area was. My friend and I came here without a reservation on a Sunday at 5. Our mistake, we definitely should have made a reservation as it was extremely crowded! Others were given a 30-40 minute wait time but luckily they squeezed us in at a small counter which we were very grateful for! I was worried that because of the crowd the food might take a while, since we had a concert after, but the food arrived not 10 minutes after we ordered. We got the caesar salad, fries, and fish tacos. All were delicious! The caesar had a great dressing and I liked the addition of kale, and the fish tacos were humongous and very scrumptious, with the right amount of salsa/sauce as well as fish! Very creative and tasty, but very small, some pieces barely had any thing on them. $16 Adobada Fries...delicious! Adobada was meaty, tender, and tasty...just wish the portion was larger. $28 Chicken Pot Pie...this is perhaps the most expensive chicken pot pie in all of San Diego county...however, this is also the BEST chicken pot pie in the county! The crust is thick, warm, soft, and buttery...the filling is loaded with tender chicken in that lovely gravy, so good!
