Never again. We've ordered ahead days in advance from Boarhog's on four occasions, and the experience has gotten progressively worse. Today's order was nearly $200 for a party, and we had to wait 35 mins to get our food *beyond* the scheduled pickup. When we got it home, the ribs were so salty they were inedible, the baked potatoes were undercooked, and the banana pudding was runny. Poor service, poor quality, and long waits (despite ordering ahead) have marked all our Boarhog's experiences since their move from the gas station. Admittedly, their pulled pork is excellent, but with everything else being subpar, we're done. read more

just stopped and got a small bbq sandwich with hot sauce. great sandwich and plenty of bbq on it, no need for 1 person to get the large. only $5.20 plus tax which is very reasonable. the one thing that could use improvement is the hot sauce----it is not hot enough for me, i like lawlers and whitts hot sauce better. boarhog hot sauce reminded me of teds bbq or lawlers regular sauce.....the sauce was good but not hot enough but that was not negative enough to reduce the place a star, still gets 5 stars....got it to go, but the help seemed like nice folks..............will go back as i saw sides that looked interesting and i have heard the ribs are good.............. read more

This is, by far, the best BBQ around. It beats out everything from Huntsville to the Shoals. Slow wood smoked pork and chicken, with excellent smoke flavor. Generous portions on meat. I've had the pork sandwich and smothered potato with chicken. The potato is a thick medallion cut and fried, smothered with cheese , tomatoes and other goodies, with your choice of meat! I spoke with the owner, who is a very nice gentleman. Nearly everything here is homemade with some passed down secret family recipes. This man has a natural talent for good food. Honestly, I doubt I will go any where else for BBQ now except for here. I almost forgot, if you come down 72 in the mornings into Huntsville, from the Gurley, Ryland, Chase area, stop and get the BBQ biscuit! If you blink while you drive past it, you may not see it - but if the smoker's working, you WON'T miss the smell of perfectly prepared, cooked and presented BBQ at its finest! This is my new favorite BBQ place. Everything I have tried has been DELICIOUS!! My favorite is their pulled pork, but their ribs and chicken are wonderful as well. Their homemade sides are also great! Their baked beans are my favorite, but their mac and cheese and hash brown casserole are very tasty!! I even had their hamburger last week and it was just like homemade (and the "small" burger was pretty big if you ask me!!). If you have never tried Boarhog's I recommend that you do and soon!! I tried Boarhog's for the first time today. I got the smothered potato with chicken and a pulled pork sandwich. First and foremost, the pitmaster has done a phenomenal job developing some of the best barbecue I have ever eaten. The smoke was flavorful and the bark was perfect. Great BBQ, just wish we lived closer. I had the BBQ sandwich, hold the mayo. The meat was piled high with coleslaw and pickle. I didn't try any of the sides so I can't comment on that. I would definitely stop by again when I am on that side of town. They are currently in a small place next to a gas station, but they are relocating to a larger place just down the road. I have eaten a lot of BBQ over the last 40 years. I am a tough customer on ratings. I mean no disrespect by rating this a 3, its better than average. My main problem is I dislike meat that is so soft it is considered mushy and tastes steamed. I have eaten there twice now and both times it was the same. Service is excellent, coleslaw is great, potato salad is good. I have eaten ribs, pulled pork and chicken halves. Meat is on the soft side and a little weak on BBQ flavor. Its close to my house, I will keep going there, just wish it was a little more flavorful. For comparison there is a place just down the road, Sugar something. The meat there is so smokey I just cant eat it anymore. So I have 2 choices, low flavor and very soft texture meat or so smokey I cant eat it. I choose Boarhog's. read more

First time visit. We both ordered the rib basket - 3 small ribs + one side and today's special included the drink. Ribs were meaty and fall off the bone tender. Very good although not much of a smoky grilled flavor. Served without sauce which I prefer and 3 sauces were available: mild ( slightly sweet, thin) sloppy? (thicker, slightly tangy)) and hot which we didn't try. I had the hash brown casserole which was creamy and good - hubby had thin crispy fries. We couldn't put our finger on it -- we've had ribs that were parboiled before grilling and they have that steamed taste that we both dislike but these weren't like that. Finally I realized that these ribs had the consistency and flavor of being cooked in a crockpot. Don't get me wrong, they were delish and we'll be back for more just not what we expected. If I'd had room I would have tried one of their desserts. We didn't realize this is a "bus your on table" place and left a tip - realized it when we passed by the area where you place your used plates. Sorry! We'll know next time! Wow! Amazing peeps - and the food is out of this world. The brisket was just like I remember as a kid in Texas. It was melt in your mouth good. The baked beans were sweet and exactly what your maw maw made. My heart was set on the banana pudding (I take that as an indication of how good it is) but had to go with the peach cobbler and WOW it more than I could have imagined. It was so good that I had to order two - to go! My husband described this meal as one of the "best in his life" and even said tears were in his eyes thinking about how good it was - ok - so, yes it's on the side of a gas station but that's where the best bbq was located in Texas and Alabama this rule must apply because this place is a GEM! read more
