Terrible experience all around. The host was the rudest restaurant employee I have ever encountered. Waited an hour after being told 20 min, then the host had the nerve to blame the wait on us. Not a happy experience. Outside seating literally went to the dogs soon after our party was seated. We were graciously moved inside with a partial view of the river and things went downhill from there. Apparently the restaurant ran out of chicken so one disappointed customer was forced to change his order to a carne asada burrito. One order was for 1/2 pound (doubt it) of peeled shrimp with lemon, cocktail sauce and old bay. No old bay. Customer asked and said not available. The BBQ sandwich was ordered with NO BBQ sauce and came slathered with it!! The burrito came long after the other food and the roast beed was tough and dry. The bill did not include the wine discount and had to be corrected. Service was slow and surly and meals did not arrive together. No military discount. read more

We have eaten here numerous times over the years. Great location. Food quality and service keeps going downhill. If it were not for the location we would eat elsewhere. Several of our fellow locals agree regarding the downhill slide. We always ask them to delete the "trail tax" that they levy on customers. We have property near Salida so we visit Salida a lot. The food is good but not worth the trouble because the service is AWFUL. Three times we have been there - a server rolled her eyes when we asked for help (1st time), we were seated and had to wait 25-30 minutes for our server to take our drink order (2nd time), and waited for 40-45 minutes to be seated (even with a pager, the pagers were broken and they would page us and when we didn't respond they would just skip us and go to the next person - weren't they curious about where their pager had gone (we were in the bar) finally seated, they forgot my husbands beer and gave me the wrong order (3rd and last time)). We will not be visiting again. read more

We had dined here when in town two years ago and had enjoyed the food as well as setting overlooking the river. So, we brought our family yesterday for lunch while we were showing them Salida. Hostess said in order to sit by the water that there would be a 25 minute wait. We asked about walking around and she offered to text us when our table was ready. Apparently she did and one of us scurried over to get our table while the others walked the couple of blocks. Our sprinter said she was there in 3 minutes and the table was given away. I asked how long we'd have to wait for another table and the hostess said another 20 minutes. Our party was disappointed as to how we were treated -/ no reaching out to accommodate or welcome us, so we all decided to find another restaurant that was hospitable. We went back to a restaurant we'd enjoyed an outdoor concert at a year ago and they were more than welcoming as they served us graciously. We're expanding our repertoire. read more

Highly recommend unique setting. Stopped for lunch with friends on road trip to Durango CO. Sat on deck overlooking river, friendly service. But it's all about the food. Tried the bacon wrapped poppers; so delicious we placed a second order; also loved the breaded fried cheese curds. All of us enjoyed our lunch so much we stopped again for lunch on our way back. The food was good enough and we were seated quickly, however, the wings appetizer (a purchase usually shared with a table) only had 5 wings. We felt like that was not worth our $10 (we get that quality takes time and money, but $2/wing?? Let's not get crazy). Happy hour is printed to last until 6pm and with well drinks priced at $3/each I ordered a Moscow Mule with the well vodka. Our ticket priced it at $6 and upon asking the waitress to review she asked someone to comp it leaving it still at $4. Not a big deal, but also not honest. Unbeatable location on the water. Food was tasty and service ideal. They had a lot of beer on tap, offered free tasters. We wanted the antipasto skewers but they were out. Ended up with mahi sandwich and the "worlds best" chicken fingers. Asked for the side salad to have arugula added (it was on other parts of the menu), that didnt happen. Great location on the river and really good food. I started off with the Eddy & Ginger Line cocktail, which is kind of like a cross between a lemon drop martini and a ginger beer, but not overly sweet. Very nice! We shared a spinach salad with pesto vinaigrette, which was excellent. My wife had the pork green chili, and I had the Black & Blue Cajun burger. Both were delicious. read more

Avoid the World's Best Chicken Strips. You will be disappointed. Club sandwich is different but awesome. Burrito is above average as well. We visited Salida on a Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. We had lunch at Boathouse on a Tuesday afternoon mid day we were seated almost immediately at a table overlooking the river. What a treat that was! We watched the kids and locals This was our first trip to Salida and there will be more. And those visits will include lunch at Boathouse Cantina. Our waitress was excellent my Caesar salad was delicious. My husband devoured his burrito with red sauce, and our daughter ate all of her taco salad including the shell and she is PICKY. :) You will not be disappointed ... it's a great location, right next to the Arkansas River! read more

Poor customer service. We placed our names on the wait list and requested the patio. The hostess made a mistake and wrote down first available. After waiting 40 min, they wanted to sit us inside and stated that they cannot take our word that we requested patio as first available was written down. Even after my mother confirmed our request. The hostess basically called us liars and refused to seat us on the patio even though a table was available. It was terrible customer service. read more

Arriving at about 9-ish, went to the game/tv/lounge room. Service (she walked by us twice), never happened, (7) of us, ended up going to the bar to get our own orders. Playing pool (no chalk, and the table was filthy), asked at the bar, they said they were all out. Onto darts, oh wait, (2) dart boards and the lights had no bulbs and they had no darts..... From Texas - visited based on recommendation and I would say we give 4/5 due to atmosphere. We sat outside and I could say at least 75% of tables had dogs around them. I am totally pet friendly but that much become a bit overbearing when your trying to enjoy the talked about fish tacos and sandwiches, etc and all you see and hear are dogs. Just never experienced anything like that and I have been to many dog friendly restaurants. read more

Very Disappointing Experience. I was seated rather quickly, outside, watching the beautiful river. I was not greeted by a server, nor could I catch any one's attention. I finally got a bus girl who told me just to wait. I asked her for the manager who arrived shortly. I explained the situation and she was super nice, saying that she would take my order. At which time, an angry, unfriendly young man showed up. The manager took my order and repeated back to me; Medium RARE burger. Yes, perfect. She then delivered to me, a WELL done and chewy burger. Mr unfriendly came by to ask how the burger was. Pretty bad, I told him. He shrugged and walked away. Upon completion of the meal, the manager came by to ask me how the meal was. Pretty bad, I said again. She shrugged and blamed the cook. I asked for the check and got it - full price. No apology for poor service or lousy food. Spare yourself and skip the meal here. Excellent stopping point for lunch in Salida. We snagged a last second table by the river. They offer beer, wine and cocktails. The food varies and there is something for everyone from kids to vegetarians , Mexican food lovers to steak and seafood fans. I say stop by and give it a try. Nice setting, nice waitress but that's it. I found a long black hair mixed in my food and i am not black haired. Manger come over took food but to make sure i didn't get the same plate back without the hair i changed my meal so when the next meal came out i asked if it had any of my food allergy in it which i had told the waitress about anyway she went back to the kitchen and i seen her say something smart remark about my request. We should have got up and walked then but didn't and wished we had. After we got the bill i wrote on the receipt and asked the waitress if that was the person in charge at the bar she said yes and asked her to give to him which she did he looked at it and threw it in the bar ,if he was a decent manager he would have come and spoke to us. I will never come there again and i will not recommended that place SO check your food before you eat it. read more

Other than the ambience of eating near the river this place isn't worth the stop when there are so many other great restaurants in Salida. Baja tacos were tasteless. Beet and goat cheese salad is best described as lettuce thrown in a bowl with goat cheese out of a container, and some beets out of a jar. Edible but not much effort put into it. If you want to get a drink there you'll probably be happy but head somewhere else for dinner. read more
