We had removed this location from our restaurant rotation. However we went back after 7 months and were pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff was helpful, knowledgeable, courteous, friendly and just knew what we needed. They weren't out of anything like they used to be. Even one time we visited they were out of chicken fingers, lemons, all kinds of stuff. The building looked like it had been deep cleaned inside. I believe new tables and chairs. Maybe even new carpet or it had been cleaned pretty good. The food was good with large portions. It was fresh and hot when it arrived. I also noticed more people there than I had seen when we used to go there. We did visit this location a week ago and it was much cleaner than that visit and it was a pretty good visit then. The outdoor trash was emptied. The sidewalks were clean. They just need to clean up the parking lot a little, move the handicap parking next to the door (it's too far away now) so we can park in a larger spot for my mom closer to the door. We stopped in for breakfast recently. The service was great, and the food was fine. As we sat down, the dining area was stuffy and had a mildew-like odor. The ladies room was almost unbearable, because it smelled like sewage had backed up into the space. There are lots of other breakfast options in Athens. We won't be returning to Bob Evans. read more

I was staying at a local Inn so stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning around 7:30am. The only guests were ROMEOs (as my father-in-law called himself Retired Old Men Eating Out) and they were having lively discussions on all topics. A preacher sat in one booth working on his sermon and I just enjoyed the community feeling. The waitress arrived almost immediately after I sat down with hot coffee and took my order. We took my 94 year old mother to her favorite restaurant. The food is not as good as it used to be but I just wanted to say good words about our server, Charlie. She was amazing. On top of taken care of multiple customers on one side of the restaurant she kept a positive and cheerful attitude. Very nice! She had a humorous side which kept us laughing as we waited for our food. Just interacting with Charlie made our stay at Bob Evans a fun one in spite of the mediocre food that we had. Had to give 1 star because 0 stars not an option! Went here for early dinner on Feb 16th. Had to wait 20 min just to be seated (only one family in front of us), Finally escorted to our seats, literally every table not occupied, (which was 2 occupied) was unbussed. Our table had food on it, had to wait for seater to clean. Waited forever for a server. Finally ordered, waited 40 mins for food. 1st meal - there were no potatoes in the breakfast bowl ( was supposed to have) meal 2- hash browns only cooked on one side! Third meal - Country Fried Steak came out with a dollop of gravy, server said they were out but making more and will be out in a minute. 10 minutes later, comes out with a bowl of "milk" not gravy! Bob Evans was a staple of my adolescence - my mom *really* loved their biscuits and gravy - and doesn't have any locations in the Chicago 'burbs where I live now. I met a friend here for dinner on a Sunday evening. They weren't busy. In fact, the parking lot was so empty I questioned if they were even open. Then again, I suppose 7 p.m. isn't the dinner time of the average guest. We were seated right away and our server was great. I had a Wildfire Chicken Salad and my friend had chicken fried steak. We were both served generous portions - I took salad and some biscuits back to my hotel room and she took more than half of her dinner home. This particular location truly holds a special place in my heart...so yes, I am biased. Sunday. Late afternoon. Post Sunday lunch rush. To say the staff is 1. Overwhelmed and 2. Understaffed is an understatement. Yes, new management would help: one busser for the entire restaurant. And his friends were at a nearby booth and he sat down with them to have a drink and a chat. Unacceptable. Tables were left with dirty dishes stacked and not properly turned over: a bad business model. No one was holding him accountable for his responsibility: get more people in and out. The flies have been an issue and remain a problem. Our service was slow (not the waitstaff's fault but the kitchen staff...again, under staffed and no incentive to get things done correctly and on time)z 5 stars for the wait staff as they were working their ass off. Constantly reassuring us, asking us if we needed anything. Manager is to blame for all the wrongs but this place does have the best food coming out of the kitchen. Just wish it was quicker and tables weren't left with dirty dishes left on them. I counted 8 tables with no bussing at one time. Large tip to our waitress. A manager is walking around blowing her nose then with the same hand the snot rag is in she's touching the computer screens and handing out receipts. We arrive, we are seated and the host ask what we're doing after we eat. That was strange, but OK. Our waitress arrives, takes our order and tells us it will be 20 minutes. OK. It's pretty chilly inside restaurant. 35 minutes later our meals arrive, 2 rise and shines. Except my wife's doesn't have her toast. Server, name of Kristen, says she will get it. Eggs are cold, home fries are cold, sausage is steaming hot. We eat our meals, I split my toast with my wife. Server never came back, ever. After finishing and waiting for 15 minutes, I go to the register to get our check since our waitress never showed her face again. I ask for it to be prorated for my wife's toast. I complain, pay and leave. Person at register was good and understanding. To sum up: Cold food, slow service, cold building and missing food and servers. Also there were gnats immediately when we were done eating, which was disgusting. When we left, our car was warmer inside after being off for over an hour, than the restaurant. we ordered bob evans for togo we got 2 soups and rolls, at first we called for a curbside order and they said hold so we held for about 3 minutes, we then hung up because nobody was coming back to the phone so we just tried to call again, again they put us on hold so then we just ordered online. I went in when we got there because I wanted to add rolls I asked how long would it be because if it was going to be a while because I would just go out to the car she told me it wouldn't be long so I sat down I waited for 30 minutes because they had to make more chicken noodle soup because they ran out. When I finally got our stuff not even an apology or anything. I also saw where somebody waited an hour for curbside outside because i heard them on the phone. We get home and my mom didn't get the onions and bacon for the potato soup and my chicken noodle soup was so spicy and filled with pepper it burned my lips and I couldn't even eat it. I noticed everybody else waited a long time for there to go orders and they were very understaffed. I will not be back in a while. P.S. Food: I came here twice for dinner. On my first visit, I ordered their Country Fried Steak, baked potato, banana bread, and corn. Everything was decent or average, nothing spectacular. It was just good old comfort food for me. On my return visit, I ordered their Black Angus Chopped Steak with Roasted Portabella Mushrooms, Farmhouse Garden Salad, and biscuits. The chopped steak was okay, but it was just a fancy name for a hamburger patty. The salad was also just a plain old salad. I liked the biscuits. Service: Both times that I was here, there service was nice and friendly, but slow. It looks like they don't have enough servers for each section. Their waitresses are too busy to cover for one another. If you sit at the counter, you'd get faster service. Location: I came here because it was super conveniently located next to my hotel. I had just run a local marathon and didn't feel like driving or walking anywhere further than next door for dinner. Overall: It's not fine dining, but the food is not bad at all. After a tumultuous 3 hour road trip, we decided to stop for a quick bite. The prices and combos here are unmatched. Despite our seating arrangement next to an oblivious, obese family of 5(?), my girl friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our waiter. Tall, with a beautiful complexion and nice eyes, he was strong in a soft way, always asking us if we needed anything else. I never have breakfast here when I visit my family. I always order something I rarely make at home like the chicken and noodles, pot roast and any salad with the colonial dressing. If you want large portions, good home style cooking and flavorful food this is a great place. I have never been disappointed. Both my family and my husband's family adore it and make sure they visit when back in the Midwest. In fact - I ate here five times on my last visit. In Minnesota, we have Target. In Ohio, they have Bob Evans. You know those blue highway signs that list the restaurants available at the exit? I think each and every one has a Bob Evans on it. The parking lot was packed. There were painters outside giving the place a nice shiny coat of red paint. We were seated right away with no wait. Unfortunately, the inside of the restaurant did not match it's shiny new outside. The table was clean but the wall had food and crayon marks all over it. Dishes were left to sit at empty tables. The saving grace was the service. She was just outstanding. I think she had over half the tables in the restaurant, but no glass sat empty and all requests were met with a smile. I ordered a bacon burger, my husband got a big breakfast with eggs and pancakes, and the peanut wanted chicken and fries. The burger was really good, greasy, but still pretty good. The guys cleaned their plates. Then she offered us to go cups! I love that! There were help wanted signs in the entry and I really hope they get it. The interior needs a big scrub down. We stopped at this location while visiting my niece at Ohio University yesterday. Food was good, service was mehh, and the atmosphere was your typical Bob Evans. We waited over 5 minutes for a hostess. When one arrived, she promptly seated us at a table. Our server was by shortly to take our drink orders. Drinks arrived, and he took our food orders. He brought silverware after my granny had waited a few minutes with nothing to stir her coffee with. When the bread did arrive, there was no butter. After paying at the counter I went back to our table to leave a tip, and all of our dirty dishes were still on the table. Overall, not a very attentive server. The food was good, especially for the price. I had the wildfire salad with crispy chicken and it was huge. I love the bbq ranch dressing it comes with. I also had the banana nut bread and it was very soft and flavorful. Our total for 3 people was less than $30. I would give this place less than 1 star if that was an option. First, it took more than 5 minutes for the greeter to seat us. My husband asked for a booth, which the greeter acknowledged with a shake of the head. She walked us back to a table & my hubby reminded her we wanted a booth. I visited the woman's restroom. One stall was disgusting & the other was dirty. My husband said the men's restroom was also dirty. Our server greeted us promptly & took our drink order. When he returned to take our food order, he did not write anything down. My husband said right away that this was probably going to be a problem, as he had watched the same server bring an order to another couple while I was in the restroom & he said their order was really messed up. So, when our food came, the only item that the server got right was our bread order. Everything else was wrong in one way or the other. While he corrected the mistakes, the number of errors was ridiculous. Lastly, when we went to pay at the register, the cashier asked how everything was. My hubby told them not good & the cashier said she would get the manager. Meanwhile, there was a problem with the register. When the manager did not come out, the cashier had to go back & get her again. The manager came out, fixed the register, but did not ask my husband anything about the food or service. Nasty, grungy restaurant. We arrived at 4pm on a Sunday, and had to wait a few minutes while the hostess cleared a table for our group of three. There were very few customers in the restaurant, but almost every table was completely covered with dirty dishes. The servers and the hostess were trying their best to clean up, but there were no bussers anywhere in evidence. Once we were seated at our table, one of the bread plates and one set of silverware provided to us were still caked with old food, and we had to ask for clean ones. Our server, in between serving us and trying to clean up tables, had to be reminded to bring the bacon with one meal, and one of the sides with another. The men's room had a "danger, wet floor" stand in it, but the floor was bone dry, and quite dirty. The sink counter was covered in water and old paper towels. It looked like nobody had given the bathroom even a cursory cleaning all day. The staff were super nice and friendly, and trying as hard as they could, but the place was clearly understaffed, both in terms of service staff and cleaning staff. read more

Well it finally happened, the first place I have been to with $2 Cokes. I got the "most popular" breakfast item, whatever its called, it consists of 2 medium eggs, 3 slices of bacon, home-fries, and I got 2 pieces of toast. When it was brought to my table the first thing you notice is that there was still alot of room left on the plate. Like I said these were medium eggs, not large. Also the home-fries looked to be about 1 medium red potato, a very small portion, and once again I have to complain about the fries in the area, these were not fries, these were cubed baked potatoes warmed up as they were not crispy in any way not even the end pieces. This underwhelming meal set me back $7.50 in what looked to be about $1.50 in food costs. A remarkable markup. I can never figure out why this place is busy most of the time as the food is mediocre, expensive, and they dont have any heart-healthy items except oatmeal. read more
