I stopped in for dinner while in town for a doctor's appointment, I just stopped here due to the convenience of this location. The restaurant is evidently short staffed because it appeared that there was only one waitress working. The waitress got our drink order and said it would be a few moments before she could get back to us due to having to deliver food to other tables. We did have to wait several minutes before she returned to get our food orders but this was the only negative that I can express about the service. Our food came out like we ordered it and it was very good. The restaurant was clean and tidy and our waitress was cleaning and running the vacuum between taking and delivering orders. If this location doesn't make this lady a manager they are definitely missing a great opportunity to have someone in management that truly seemed to care about her customers and the appearance of the restaurant. Plus she genuinely acted like she enjoyed her job and talking with the customers. I'm giving the restaurant four stars but the waitress deserved at least eight!!! read more

I ordered Bob Evans online for pickup after my parents' doctors appointments. This location was close to their doctors office. Ordering and paying online was fast and easy. I was able to enter the time I wanted to pickup. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy, which is my favorite breakfast item at Bob Evans. I arrived and went inside the takeout door. I only waited a few minutes for our food. We took it home to eat. The biscuit was light and fluffy and the sausage gravy was delicious. Thanks Bob Evans, for making my morning! read more

So I always order online, and usually, there's some coupon code, but lately, there's nothing, and every time I place an order, there's an issue. I ordered a family breakfast with pancakes and added family biscuits with gravy. I'm out of pocket $50 for almost every order, and I always set high expectations for this location. Today I asked for plates to go, and the person at the counter couldn't find them. She said, " They are always moving stuff." She did ask if I wanted styrofoam, and I denied them and left. She then ran outside as I walked to my car and gave me the plates they found. When I got home, as usual, the eggs were overcooked, and the serving was low for 4-6 people. The last 3 weeks and yes I mean the last 3 weeks I have been to Bob Evans in Portsmouth Ohio and in New Boston Ohio. And all 3 weeks have been terrible visits. The 1st week in Portsmouth we arrived at 6 PM. We immediately get seated my husband our toddler and me. A waiter that was working there asked the short haired blonde manager woman why she didn't see us with him and she stated because there was no tables over there and we had overheard him him say I have 5 tables available. So then she seated us with someone else you could immediately feel the Unwanted feeling. Our waitress was very nice it was the manager who was very off putting. We ordered our food and we began to wait we eat we waited for 45 minutes for our food and the waitress came up to us and told us she was very sorry that the cook in the back was very upset that people keep ordering food. And that he was just taking his time on everything. When we went in it was not busy at all there might have been at least 6 or 7 table that had people. We like to try to stay on a very tight schedule especially with our toddler who is accustomed to eating at a certain time. She began to get cranky because she was hungry. Finally almost another 10 minutes had went by and we finally got our food my food was wrong I ordered the double meat protein bowl and asked for the sweet potatoes to be substituted with regular home fries and I wasn't about to ask the waitress to make it right because I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes to an hour. The manager then said to us as we were leaving did you know you get a cookie with her milk and I said no we didn't know that but then she proceeded to not give us a cookie and walked away. Which I'm OK with because my daughter doesn't quite understand what she was saying but if she Could understand she probably would've thrown a fit because she would want that cookie. We left the restaurant after 730pm and that is our daughter's bath time. The Following week we return to Portsmouth Bob Evans for dinner. We also arrived at 6 PM we immediately got seated and noticed there was only 4 tables that had people in it. We are creatures of habits and usually order the same thing I ordered the double meat protein bowl to substitute the sweet potatoes for home fries I asked the waiters if that could be done she said absolutely. My husband ordered the double meat farmer's breakfast and wanted Loaded hash Browns. And my daughter ended up getting Mac and cheese and green beans. Again we immediately ordered as we arrived and and we sat and waited we waited for a whole 50 minutes this time for our food. And This time a waitress gave us banana nut bread to help with our angry toddler who was hungry. As we got our food we quickly realized that again my order was wrong and my husband didn't even receive his hash Browns but again we weren't going to say anything because of how long it took for them to get us our food. Also there were people walking in wanting to be seated in the hostess was nowhere to be found so several people came in and seated themselves. We was so upset with the last 2 weeks of our visits to the same restaurant that I had contacted the website and filed a complaint I have not heard from anyone. My husband and I were absolutely disgusted and with the price of our bill it was over $40 On pretty much just breakfast food, When I can go to the store Cook A meal that is very similar to what we had with less wait time. And close to half the cost. Fast forward to this evening we went to the New Boston Ohio Bob Evans. Again at 6 PM it was not very busy we busy will you immediately get seated. And we again knew what we wanted. There was 2 other tables in the section that we was and we was at that had customers eating and the waitress was tending to them. So we sat patiently and was waiting for someone to come take our Drink order in our meal order. We waited for a total of 45 minutes and no one has came to take our order or are drinks. We immediately packed up our daughter and her toys and as we were walking out I let the waitresses know that we had been sitting for waiting 45 minutes for someone to take our drink orders and our meal order and that we were leaving. And a group of waitresses looked at me like I had snakes coming out of my ears. As we were walking out a customer that was in the area we were seated said normally the waitress that he had is a very good waitress. We filed a complaint again tonight online. Needless to say the last 3 weeks with Bob Evans in Portsmouth and New Boston have been horrible service, We will not be returning to either restaurants restaurants near us or any other Bob Evans for that fact. And since I have filed 2 complaints so far and haven't heard from anyone read more

We sat at our table for an hour and never got our drink orders taken. This was the third and final straw for our family. With COVID they're operating with 50% table capacity. Thanksgiving Day ordered the turkey and ham dinner, was one slice of ham on the menu it showed two, it showed a nice pile of 4 slices of turkey I got two very think looked like lunch meat turkey. The pie was good and so were the rolls but they were extra small not like you usually get at Bob Evans. No not happy I wanted turkey. The service was great. The complaint is with the food. They have changed some of their recipes. We ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and carrots. The meatloaf and the gravy were both too sweet. I don't know why anyone would put a sweetener in gravy. The potatoes were unseasoned and we unfortunately asked for gravy to put on them before tasting the gravy. And the carrots, well I am not sure how they were fixed; but, I believe they were fried. If you added salt, they could possible pass as crispy carrot chips. In the small town of Portsmouth, this used to be one of the better places to eat. We arrived at 12:30 pm. And there were no more than 5 other tables seated. We will think hard before returning here. Maybe breakfast would be good; after all, there isn't much one can do to ruin bacon and eggs. read more

This particular restaurant hasn't been functional for the last 6 years. It used to have great food as well as service, however now I'm not sure there's much good I could say about it. Every time I've ordered food the wait time is 30-40 minutes. I show up in 40 minutes, and they make me sit and wait another 20. On top of that the food isn't even good half the time. Whoever owns this restaurant should start caring about how awful the experience is all around. Have given this location a couple of chances and I don't know why as they continue to be terrible and disappointing. Employees act like they have better things to do and food is blah at best. It's either burnt or undercooked there's no in-between. I'd be embarrassed to run this establishment. I understand it's hard to get people to work with their low wages right now but nevertheless, it's abysmal. Every time I've ordered carryout there is stuff that's missing. Every. Single. Time. I walk in to an empty restaurant and get seated. Dirty coffee cup, dirty spoon. I asked for hot sauce and get a nearly empty bottle. Do people no longer look? Let's see what happens with the food. I ordered a "border scramble" Well if your idea of a border scramble is stewed tomatoes, pepper jack cheese, a few jalapeño peppers with some potatoes then I guess this is ok. In two words...it sucked! They did throw some sausage on it. I ordered the wrong item apparently. Maybe it that's the Rancho sauce they advertised on the menu. Remodeled in March 2010. I don't mind new decor--colors, material, wood, etc. Not sure if restaurant still seats the same number of people. It seems smaller. Last visit (July 2010) felt claustrophobic and the restaurant was extremely noisy with clanging of dishes and closeness of kitchen/prep area. We drove from NC and were very tired. We stopped in for supper and it was wonderful. We had the pot roast, carrots and mashed potatoes. Our server Bri was really personable and gave us great service. The food was so good we went back the next evening after visiting my dad in the hospital. We got there about 10 to 9 and they closed at 9:00. We were going to leave because we didn't want them to have to stay late because of us, but they welcomed us in and served us another wonderful meal. The staff were warm and friendly as they went about their closing duties. Once again Bri was there and did an excellent job. They made us feel so welcome and not that it was a bother that we came so late. Next time we are in Portsmouth we will go back again and I would like to encourage you to try them out as well. Overpriced, watered down coffee, the worst sausage gravy I've ever had. When did the gravy go from white to brown? This place and many other chains similar to it are far from the mom and pop places that serve a truly homemade breakfast and not an super inflated prices. I don't understand WHY people go to these places. We only did because for whatever reason, Portsmouth is lacking in mom/pop breakfast diners. He was very kind, very prompt, did not rush us out, addressed my father and I respectfully and held entertaining conversation. Upon leaving, Mark wished us a Merry Christmas, then corrected to "Happy Holidays," showing respect for all. Nice down home feeling, but the food and service lacked tremendously. We were quickly seated however it took at least 10 minutes before our drink order was taken. We ordered the typical breakfast fare. In about 15 minutes we received both our meals and the bill. No refills, no sorry about the wait, just our food and the bill. I don't know if this is typical of Bob Evans or if this was just a rare mishap but I know that from dining in various establishments that the bill is only given after it appears that the diners are ready to leave. The meals looked as though they had been prepared in a high school cafeteria, hurriedly made. And while the portions were more than enough for two people the food didn't have the "down home" flavor that the decor would lead to be believe it would have. To be honest, the food tasted institutional; like what you would expect from a hospital or a soup kitchen: bland but filling. Combining the "sit here and wait" customer service, lack of even a single refill of drinks, the bill at the time the food was served, and lackluster food quality, I've struggled to give this business even two stars. In summary this Bob Evans locations is nothing more than fast food for old people who aren't worried about how fast their food is served or whether or not the price of the food is a reflection of its quality or the quality of service. read more

We visited the Bob Evans in Portsmouth Ohio yesterday evening. When asked for our beverage order we were told that they were out of coke. Their truck was supposed to be there between 5 and 11 that evening. This is at 4:00 so I would think that the dinner crowd would soon be coming if there is such a thing. I was told by our waitress that every table that she had waited on had wanted coke. You would think they would have gone over to Kroger and bought two liter bottles of coke to hold them over. They didn't want to pay out the extra money for that. That is the only beverage my husband drinks, so we got water. Next when asked for my order, I ordered grilled chicken breast with a baked potato, only to be told that they no longer serve baked potatoes.
