Bob Evans is not what it once was. This is where I would give maybe 2.5 stars if Yelp could let me, because Bob Evans is not a 3, but not a 2 either, but clearly subpar. I remember eating at Bob Evans in Terre Haute growing up around here. Maybe before the "breakfast spots" became more trendy outside the old guard restaurants like I-Hop, Waffle House, Stucky's and Cracker Barrel, BE had its moment in the sun. The bar is now high out there in the breakfast cosmos on what to expect in this arena of restaurant offering. My memories were better of the quality of food compared to our dinner here recently. My parents and myself all had breakfast options for dinner and they were simply OK. Biscuits a bit doughy, banana bread average, portion size smaller, nothing eventful with our meal. They are no longer selling beer/wine but whittling down their remaining inventory, so the glimmer of enjoyment of our experience came with the two Budweiser beers I had with dinner. The banana nut bread we purchased on the way out to enjoy over a few days continued to be average. The highlight I will remember is the Necco wavers I was able to purchase at the check out counter, which is in line with the nostalgic feel of what Bob Evans is shooting for. The staff was nice and I liked that there was nobody there at 7pm on a Saturday night. But Bob Evans is average at best and I would not choose to return again if given a choice and would go to another breakfast eatery. read more

The restaurant is conveniently located in front of a hotel. When we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly hostess and seated right away. Jeremy, the waiter, is a very nice and well mannered young man. He took our orders politely and cheerfully. We ordered Sirloin with mushrooms and onions and herb roasted two-piece chicken. Both dishes were prepared nicely and presentation was good. We asked Jeremy for extra breads. He immediately assured us that there wouldn't be extra charges and the bread was of unlimited supply We enjoyed the dining experience at this restaurant, with good service. read more

I've always loved Bob's especially their rolls........... On Sunday 8/2/15, we were staying at a nearby hotel and starving/ borderline hangry. We ordered take out online and both of us went with their Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad which consists of slow-roasted chicken, bacon, sweet dried cranberries and bleu cheese tossed with fresh greens and topped with delicious honey-roasted pecans. I opted for blue cheese dressing and rolls. The salad was really good except for the bacon- it was cold and fatty. The salad was filling but the rolls were dry, dry, dry- tears are rolling down my cheek as I type this... I flipping love their rolls so this was disappointing. This Terre Haute Bob Evans was the filthiest place in which my wife and I have ever eaten. We had driven 500 miles and were too tired to go elsewhere. The floors had ground in filth . . . a look at the carpeting would make dining impossible. Huge areas of grease were around the front door. All surfaces (walls, table, floors, displays) were filthy. The sausage and bacon were overcooked (blackened) and the bread products (biscuits) were rock-hard. The staff was friendly but since the food was terrible and the place was a case calling for a Board of Health inspection, nice people made no difference. read more

Arrived at "The Farm" a little past 13:00 EST to enjoy a hearty, home-cooked meal with some friends (most of which are very important figures in the community). Our experience began with a very crowded parking lot, which of course is not the fault of the workers but rather an indicator of poor corporate planning. Initial service was sub-par, we weren't greeted with the enthusiasm and warmth suggested by Bob Evan's "on the farm" home-style marketing campaign. Anywho, we waited approx. 9 minutes to be seated in a decent, but rather noisey section. In the beginning our server seemed like quite an enthusiastic, young lad with a desire to please us with impressive service. After forgetting a couple drinks and finally collecting our order after 12 minutes of sitting at the table (forcing me to carry on conversation with the VIPs longer than planned - good thing I had back up talking materials for this situation). During our nearly 25 minute wait for our food after our waiter took our order, I noticed a quaint decorative sign proclaiming "'You won't go hungry around here!'- Bob Evans" - setting high expectations as I have a large appetite. My farm-fresh medium rare steak with hash browns and over-easy eggs came in the first wave of food, the sourdough toast came with the second - along with most other people's food. The food was of a good-quality, the steak a tad over-cooked and salted but other overall as expected for the fair price of $9.89 + tax. A brief side note, Bob Evan's unique Mason jar glasses are aesth etically pleasing but a good reminder of the superiority of the glass over the jar for drinking experience. I ordered a slice of Reese™ Peanut butter Pie to fulfill my rather large appetite, which was surprisingly phenomenal. Our waiter was overall very impressive for his youth, which would result in a handsome tip from me and the VIPs. The coffee was hot and fresh the duration of the meal (of which I required numerous refills because of my rather large tolerance for caffeine). The price was reasonable and seemed to fit the expectations. The food here is great! If you have to eat at a chain for breakfast, this is the place to do it. It's a reasonably priced place with ingredients that are easily superior to places like Denny's and IHOP. When you go, ask for Caleb. He's an awesome and hilarious server. Minus one star because they don't tell you on the menu how many calories the meals are (except for the "healthier" fare), which makes it very difficult for me to choose what to eat. Both times we were blown away by the outstanding service at every level, to include greeting, teamwork, food preparation/presentation cleanliness and price.
