I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Yelp Elite Event here a week or so ago and I liked it so much that I wanted to introduce Nina to it. It was convenient to do it today, because she teaches Tai Chi at the Hilltop Y on Thursday mornings. She got there before I did and Daniel, one of the owners, was giving her a tutorial on boba drinks, since it was her first one, as it had been mine. He even showed her how to stab it w/ the straw, as Gina had to show me. She decided on a melon drink w/ black tea, 75% sugar, no ice and boba as well as their chicken sandwich, which comes w/ coleslaw, BBQ sauce and an onion ring inside. She asked for light sauce because she has to watch her salt. Daniel asked if she wanted the sandwich cut in half, which she did. I ordered Thai tea w/ 50% sugar, very light ice, oat milk and boba, as well as 6 sweet chili chicken wings. I had intended to order fries to share, since they're so good, but forgot. Maybe next time. Nina's sandwich came out first, then my wings. I noticed that the texture was different, crispier than the ones I had taken home before and reheated. I really liked them. They're so meaty, the sauce is so good and the crispy texture took it to another level. Nina really liked her sandwich. My drink was delicious. Nina liked her drink, although she wasn't enthusiastic about the boba's texture. She said she would try something else next time. While we were eating Marissa came over to check on us. I commented on the difference in the texture of the wings and she said an air fryer would crisp them up at home, which is good to know. I ate three for lunch and will have the other three for another meal, so I will use the air fryer. She also told me that Vincent, who helped me last time, is her cousin, so it really is a family business. The restaurant was empty at 12:20, unlike at 3:00, when it was full of well behaved middle schoolers and Elite Yelpers. It was also chilly and Nina said Daniel had told her that the heater was broken. When I went to the bathroom Marissa heard me coming down the hall and came out to unlock the door. Wings are way too big to my liking. Got the lemon pepper wings and the seasoning tasted too generic and way too big which only makes me believe they're filled with lots of hormones from where ever they buy them. Ewww. Been waiting for a boba place to open near me and now it has. They're a small business just starting off but so far the boba drinks have been really good. Avery happily greeted us in the front and confirmed our preferences for boba. My Guava Fruit Tea was the perfect sweetness at 50% and the Arnold Palmer definitely tasted like 75% sweetness, seems accurate to my taste buds but 25-50% is perfect for me. Me and my bf were deciding if we wanted this or wingstop. Choosing this place was the best decision. The wings are way bigger and saucier than wingstop. The wings didnt have a heavy breading on them, but they were nice and crispy. The wing flavors were soooo good. We got lemon pepper hot, siracha honey and soy glaze. I still wanted to love this place. I'm constantly on the lookout for the best fried chicken wings in the area. I ordered my original chicken wings last night. When I picked them up they were completely hot but all I tasted was vinegar. The wings were fried perfectly, but, when I order wings, I just want the flats. Boba Birds is a great addition to Tara Hills/Pinole. Locally owned and operated Boba Birds is located right next to Safeway in a perfect pick up location. The interior is fresh, new and cool! It even has a spot to take a picture. I'm not the biggest boba guy but I got the fresh squeezed lemonade with jelly that was amazing. The chicken wings were big, not like the smaller wings from the franchise spots. The flavors we very good and it was fried perfectly. I definitely recommend adding this to your rotation. read more

FINALLY. Pinole deserves a good boba spot. And the fact that this place is a small business is a PLUS. My husband and I ordered the honey garlic parmesan and lemon pepper wings with a guava fruit tea and a fruit punch to wash them down. The lemon pepper was hands down my favorite lemon pepper I've had. Lemon pepper at a lot of other places are too salty and have a puddle of grease at the bottom which I do not like. This place did not have that and had more of a lemon citrusy flavor which I do like. The owner took the time to see how we were doing and how we were liking the food and he was so nice! You can tell he really cares and is passionate about his work. ALL of the staff were very friendly and so helpful. Everything tasted good, but there is room for improvement. Me and my family didn't really like the Honey Garlic Parmesan Wings. We felt that it needed a lot more salt. I personally really liked the mango fruit tea as it was the right amount of sweetness and the flavor didn't taste artificial. We've been waiting for this place to open up for a while and we're so glad they're finally here. Parking is not a problem. The store is clean, spacious and quiet. Service is excellent. We ordered brown sugar boba, wings, and fries. Wings are made to order which took about 20 minutes but that's no biggie because everything was good.
