Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #126 I've visited Bobae a couple more times at this point and need to upgrade them to a 5 for consistency. From my most recent visit on a Tuesday afternoon: Iron Goddess Oolong Milk Tea, Bae Size, 50% Sweet w/ Boba ($8) - This is a really interesting drink that doesn't taste like any other Iron Goddess (Tieguanyin) that I've had before. Instead of a more oxidized, somewhat vegetal and earthy taste, this tea delivers the aroma of warm holiday spices like clove and nutmeg. At half sweet, it's still a bit too much for me (reminder for myself to get 25% next time), but it's not a harsh sweetness by any means. The boba is very good and have been consistently good in my prior visits (other than my first visit, which was an outlier!). The pearls are clearly sweetened in syrup and have a texture that compresses on the tongue, but remains really bouncy. It's one of the few places that allows me my favorite boba chewing technique - biting off six sides to create a boba center cube. I swung by to get their Nitro OG milk tea with boba, 50% sweet and light ice. I think that nitro brewed tea is a little gimmicky since I've been to Bobae's other locations and the tea always felt like a normal milk tea. Nitro coffee is real though, since it makes the coffee smoother and frothy at the same time. SO, I was surprised to see that the top of this tea was actually a bit frothy with tiny bubbles! Interesting. Maybe the other locations aren't doing it properly? Anyway, this made the tea have a silkier mouthfeel, although I'm still not sure it does anything for the flavor of the tea as milk and sugar are already added, making the drink super smooth and creamy to begin with. The boba here is soft, bouncy and perfectly chewy. It's soaked in syrup, adding another dimension of flavor. I'll be coming back! read more

Bobae is a very cute boba shop located on Lake St in downtown Kirkland. It's right across the lake so people can buy their drinks and soft serve ice cream here and walk across to the park to people watch and enjoy the sunset. I tried the mango and matcha swirl with mango pearls. The yogurt was nicely balanced between sweet, sour and earthy. The mango pearls pop in your mouth and release a refreshing mango flavor. Apparently, bobae has other locations and has been voted Best in the PNW in 2024. read more

Bobae has multiple locations to get their delicious variety of goodies. Everything I have tried has been 5/5 from the boba drinks to desserts from mango matcha twist soft serve and their Ube Coconut Basque cheesecake. Very nice pink inspired shop. The only downfall was how the soft serve was hollow on the inside, it would be nice to have the full cup amount. Highly recommend still and will be looking forward to trying more off their menu. read more

Tried their seasonal Mango sticky rice drink! It had real mango and fresh tasting ingredients. The rice gave it a nice textural difference and the coconut milk was light and creamy. Would recommend trying their seasonal mango drinks! The service was quick and our server was friendly. There is no seating inside but you can take your drink and sit at any of the outdoor picnic areas. My friends tried their other fresh fruit drinks and enjoyed them too. read more

A lot of their drinks seem like they would be heavier but if you like fresh fluffy amazing warm boba with an amazing drink profile, this is your place. I have been to Bobae in Woodinville in the past, but this is my first time at the Kirkland location. This store is a cute and small, order and go venue. They don't have seats tables to linger. Considering how expensive Kirkland is, it is perfectly understandable. In the past, I was visually lured by their IG friendly drinks such as the strawberry matcha latte. I hated it. They serve it in a non-shakable cup, and it is impossible to properly stir the thick strawberry jam into the beverage. On this cold February day with no lines, I spent the time to ask questions, and we landed on the Bobaejicha, which is roasted green tea hojicha milk tea. For the hard care tea drinkers, hojicha is often a fav. They did right by the hojicha with the smoky tea, soothed with milk, and a touch of sweetness at 25%. It tasted good at 0% also, but I had her add the sugar after a few sips, so I can try both variants. I realized I prefer a 0% by the second half of the cup. Their house made brown sugar syrup adds a caramel taste when mixed with the smoky hojicha. Both variants are good. It was a fun chat to figure out my drink away from photo influences. read more

I got a Ube matcha, guava cheesecake donut and a MG Colada w/tapioca. The MG colada was not great, it was $9 with topping and tasted bland. The Ube matcha $8 was delicious, I got 50% sweet and it was still very sweet so next time I'll try 0-25%. The guava cheesecake donut was my favorite! The filling was so creamy, light and fluffy. We used to live in Woodinville and this was one of our go-to boba spots. We stopped by the Kirkland location on our last visit. I got the ube matcha with boba and it was super fancy, there were real chunks of ube. I would have probably wanted the jasmine milk tea instead but was really tempted by this combo. The Bobae shop here is just a grab-and-go place, no seating, but the person who was working there was SO nice! She gave suggestions when we asked, provided lots of detail for cookies and drinks, and told us if we didn't like the sugar levels of what we got, she'd be happy to fix it for us. This place is a nice 10-15 minute walk from my office, so I'm hoping to come by more often! It's definitely on the pricier side of boba, but the drink flavors are so much more intriguing than Happy Lemon that I want to come back to try them for sure. read more

Finally got to try bobae and it lived up to the hype! The service was super friendly and I liked the interior as well. I got their strawberry matcha latte and it was a nice balance! Bobae is sooo amazing! Literally one of my absolute favorite boba spots. This location specifically is the best. Staff at this location are always so friendly and kind. They take their time making the drink beautiful and absolutely delicious all while having great conversations with their customers. I appreciate this location has outstanding customer service. To-go only with no seating or restrooms available. Menu is displayed on the front door, the wall, and near the register. I like all the pink and the wall with notes and pics from customers showing Bobae love! My favorite thing to order here is the Red, White, Matcha with boba as it's always so perfect. I am a big matcha lover and this place is real deal. They whisk the matcha in front of you and take their time to make the drinks tasty and pleasing to the eyes and stomach. I love their Ube drinks here as well and have tried the yummy Ube white chocolate chip cookie. The Iron Goddess Oolong tea is so good. Finally tried the Sapphire Moonlight drink with boba and it's one of my new favs! The boba quality is always 10/10 at this location. So tasty and perfect texture. Nowhere to sit, only take-away options are available in the cute, kawaii space that's been created. The counter is at the first third of the entire space, leaving the majority of room in the area where only one employee worked diligently to meet the hoards of orders present on this particular warm, spring day. One word: Bobaejicha. If you're like me and enjoy a cheeky boba for the occasional craving, but don't like the sugary, foggy torpor that follows an overly-sweet drink, Bobae's version of Japanese hojicha is definitely for you! I'm usually a try-every-drink-on-the-menu gal, but it's so yummy I come back for it every time I order here. Is Bobae a bit overpriced? Yes. And is it Americanized, compared to other boba chains? Also yes. But because of the consistent quality (boba AND tea, alike) I don't mind shelling out a bit more for those special boba runs, though it's certainly not my go to. Went back for matcha and earl grey nitro. I love it here and I'd have to say it's pricey. I would not be able to come so often due to higher price point. We were in the area and decided to give this place a try. There was only one person working so we had to wait a bit but it wasn't bad. The person there was very nice and very knowledgeable. The place is Definitely a take out place so no seating. My husband got the nitro og milk tea and I got the goma goma, both with oat milk and 50% sweet and boba. We both enjoyed our drink a lot and definitely would come back to try their other items. I love the nutty flavor of the goma goma and is probably going to be a favorite there. i love oolong tea, and their oolong had depth and flavor and creaminess and WOW, awesome, good job. my friends got the ube with salted cheese foam, and they didn't like the salted cheese foam but also they didn't continually mix the drink so idk. but the bitterness of the oolong tea mixed with the creaminess was there, and the balls we're perfectly chewy and sweet. spot on! read more

I have no idea how I let this review slip through the cracks because I really owe Bobae one for being one of my favorite go-to boba spots in the greater Seattle region. Despite living quite a drive away on the other side of the water, I never hesitated to make mini half-day trips up to Kirkland with my pup if it meant satisfying my boba cravings with a cup of Bobae. Plus, the view of the water while driving on 520 is absolutely breathtaking! I really loved their monthly seasonal menu because it meant getting to try something different almost every time I came, and often times the menu would have at least 1-2 non-caffeinated options for when I was visiting post-work in the late evening. And whenever I wasn't feeling as adventurous, their classic menu was just as great. I always got the Nitro Jasmine Sliver Tip when I wanted a milk tea and the Nitro Jasmine Lemon Honey Tea when in the mood for something lighter. I highly recommend getting boba as an add-on because I kid you not, their boba is the best boba I've had in Seattle. It's super soft and chewy, and sweet, but not too sweet. It really goes to show that the owners and management here puts a lot of weight and priority on providing first class customer service. Every experience has been phenomenal and the staff are extremely warm and friendly. They really stick by you in helping you make sure you're ordering the best drink for yourself, and they also make sure you don't leave until you're happy with your drink, whether that means remaking your drink or making you a new one. And the cherry on top - it's located downtown on Lake St right by the marina, so it makes for a great outing! The storefront is also open concept, making them very dog friendly. :) read more

I've been to almost every single cafe that serves matcha lattes on the east side in search for the best. And I can confidently say that Bobae has probably the most premium matcha thus far. What's unfortunate, however, is that every time I order the 'Red, White and Matcha' (strawberry matcha), the amount of strawberry jam is not often consistent. This makes for a very uncertain order each time. The first couple of times, the person made it perfectly. The handful of times after that, it's been unpredictable. Some employees will add double the amount of strawberry jam, and when they do, it's just unbearably sweet and all you taste is the jam. My safe assumption is that there's no standard fixed measurement. If they did, I wouldn't get a different amount of jam depending on who's working. Their matcha is really the best ceremonial grade I've tasted thus far, but I just need their jam measurement standardized so I know how to order each time. read more

There are only 1 or 2 people there, so the service was slow and we waited 10 minutes for our drinks. I ordered the mango purple sticky rice drink from the June creative menu, and hubby ordered the bobaejicha. The lowest sugar level here is 50%, but it's just right for me. My drink is basically just coconut milk with topping, but it was refreshing and I think the purple rice in the drink makes the drink so much more fun and unique. It sort of makes me want to get the purple rice yogurt from yomie yogurt. Hubby's drink was good and it's basically hojicha with whole milk. We are well-versed in tea and have hojicha at home, but roasted green tea tastes a bit different than green tea and it's not as refreshing. The balance between the tea and milk is good, but I generally prefer a higher percentage of tea than milk (like what they do at "don't yell at me"). I can't tell the drink was made of whole milk either, but the boba was overcooked and not chewy at all. If you have bad teeth, you might enjoy it (???). Even though it's a small place, they really care about their customers and they labeled all the cf, gf, and df options. I think that really makes this place stand out from everywhere else. When I'm in the area, Bobae is my go-to I was so happy that I was able to stop by after picking up a Deru cake several months ago.
