Note: This review is based solely on their Key lime pie, although my other half remarked he'd been here before and said the food was good, so 5 stars until I ever come back here again. The quest for the best key lime pie in Key West began over dinner on Monday night, when I mentioned wanting to check out Kermit's on my friend recommendation, lamenting that I never got to enjoy a truly good key lime pie during my first and last visit in 2020. The one I had then was... not good. (I now know the dead giveaway is that it was green). What followed has become a pursuit of principle: truly a noble quest I can get behind. Fast-forward 3 days, and here's our verdict so far, with one contender still to come. Tomorrow night we're headed to Red Shoe Island Bistro for dinner at the insistence of a local who claims it blows Kermit's cheesecake out of the water: 1. Kermit's - The benchmark. Bright, tart, light, and perfectly balanced. 2. Hurricane Hole - Good, but missing the extra punch of tartness that puts Kermit's over the top. 3. El Siboney - Solid, but denser and more cheesecake-like, but also lacking the light, airy tartness of Kermit's. 4. Key Lime Pie Bakery - Forgettable in a town where memorable matters. 5. Matt's Stock Island Kitchen - Overly sweet with virtually no lime (or even lemon) presence. Our slice came boxed with whipped cream and... cherry sauce?! If you'd called it birthday cake, I'd have found that a more accurate description. Might as well call it Diabetes On a Plate. Tomorrow morning, a plan was proposed (that I seconded): we'll stop by Kermit's to grab two slices to go and stash them in the fridge, specifically to revisit after dinner at Red Shoe Bistro as a point of reference. If Red Shoe's pie ends up being too close to call, we'll have no choice but to bring a slice home and do a true, side-by-side comparison in real time. And in the interest of not ending the trip on a sour note if tomorrow night disappoints, at least we'll be leaving Key West on Friday morning with Kermit's key lime pie as our final bite. read more

Found this place by luck while visiting the keys. Sits right by the water and has a marina attached. In fact while we were eating dinner a couple guys got back from their fishing trip with a gigantic grouper they just caught. There is a small kids play area that looked a little sketchy. It was 7 of us having dinner and we all left satisfied which is hard to do especially with 2 kids along. Both kids got the Mac & Cheese and they loved every bite. My mother got the lobster roll and said it was fantastic. I tried the fresh catch of the day sandwich with a side of rice and black beans. Both were phenomenal. Everyone else got burgers and fries. All 3 people said the same thing, the fries didn't taste fresh. Our server was amazing, he kept checking on us and he was the one to tell us about the guys coming back with that large fish so the kids could go check it out. We went to a few restaurants during our stay at Key West. This is truly a gem for us. The view, the atmosphere, the attentive staff, the reasonable price point of food, all adds up. We had conch chowder, grilled fish of the day (yellow tail), mushroom burger. The conch chowder was good but a little bit peppery. The grilled fish was perfectly cooked. Loved that it gave you the choice of how you wanted your fish to be cooked (grilled, blackened, panko). Will definitely come back if we come to Key West again. read more

Catch any fish in key west? Bring it here and they wil cook it for you how you like it - and it won't be expensive. We caught a bunch of lane snappers and it only costs $10 for a pile of fried fritters of it. The fish sandwich was also really tasty and the vibe is cool with a marina full of house boats, kayaks and such. This is the only restaurant/meal we didn't pre-plan, and honestly, I think it was the best meal of our trip (which says a lot, because we had some amazing food in Key West)! Our fisherman recommended this place to cook our freshly caught snapper (we brought our cleaned filets for them to cook), and it was incredible. It's a bit confusing since you don't see a host, you just find an open table outside and sit in it. It was an incredibly busy day, so it took a second for our waiter to take our order, but he was very professional and friendly and we didn't mind the wait. The outdoor seating is right by the marina, which is super convenient with a nice vibe. We started with the conch ceviche, which was AMAZING. Skip the fritters and get this to really enjoy some conch with a little zest. We also got the conch chowder, which is tomato-based and not cream-based, to our absolute pleasure. It had a kick to it and I'd also highly recommend it. We got our fresh catch blackened, which was fantastic. It doesn't cover the natural delicious flavor of the fish, but enhances it and was cooked perfectly. Honestly some of the best fish I've had in Florida. The sides were also awesome: black beans (more like soupy beans, with a fantastic flavor), yellow rice, onion rings (fried perfectly), and delicious, fresh, crunchy coleslaw (not too mayonnaise-y)!! There should definitely be more reviews of this place! This place was so impressive, we skipped trying anything the second night and just came right back! Catch of the day was Mutton Snapper, and I have to say its great blackened or fried...we did both. The fresh cut fries were amazing. Even the kids shrimp basket was a hit, oh and that's not even mentioning the nachos loaded with chicken... all AMAZING. The ambiance is relaxed and set up against a beautiful marina. Watching the beautiful boats pull up for a chair at the bar was just the perfect addition to the entertainment. We ran out of nights on this trip, but we'll certainly be back next time! read more

I found this place while boating around. It's a pretty tight squeeze for boaters. Not really recommended for amateur boaters not used to docking in tight spaces around heavy boater traffic. I just had a burger and couple of beers. The burger was huge. And the bun got so soggy, so quickly, we had to just use a knife and fork. It was an alright little stop overall. It's accessible by road. But I don't have that info. Not the cheapest place either. Considering what it is. I give it more like 3.5 stars read more

Great local spot sitting next to the marina. If you're looking for something low key near Key West with great food/drinks, this is the spot. I had the best dinner of my whole time at key west here, and just wish I would have found this place sooner! I ordered the Reuben with the catch of the day, which was Golden Tile, and it was amazing. The fish and cheese + thousand island blended perfectly, and the toast was buttery with just the right amount of crunch. They also have a great selection of local beers, some of which are on tap, which I always try to go for if possible. One point of warning, sit close to a fan, or be on the lookout for mosquitos, I killed about 5 while I was sitting, and I'm sure more got me I didn't notice. read more

My son had caught a snapper in marathon Florida and of course, desperately wanted to eat what he caught! But our flight was out of Key West, needing to be at the airport by noon. We had to find a restaurant that would cook the catch near the airport. I found this place online and am so happy we did! The waitress suggested that we do fried snapper bites as an appetizer as the best way to eat the fish. I'm so glad she suggested this! Everybody got a bite and the breading was so light and the fish tasted perfect! We also got chicken tenders, a burger and a chicken sandwich for lunch. I loved my chicken sandwich. Again the breading was light and flavorful and the basil mayonnaise they put on it just put this as one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! Parking here can be a little bit of an issue here, because there's also a marina here. There is water front dining overlooking the marina. The food here is basically bar food, but it's pretty good. What a pleasant surprise! We chose Hurricane Hole out of convenience bc it was right next to our kayaking tour at Lazy Dog, but it ended up one of our favorite meals of our entire trip. My husband got the Mexican bowl and I got the shrimp salad- both were amazing. It was so fun to see people bring in their freshly caught fish and it get prepared in the kitchen. As dive bars go, this one rocks! Right next to where we had a fun kayak adventure lies this hidden gem. Great bar that is open, outside and in the middle of a mangrove thicket, thus the name Hurricane Hole. We grabbed a seat and ordered some fresh shrimp and fries.
