tried this place from the grapevine coupon. my hair was pretty long but thin. I asked for a 2in trim and some layers with some fringe/face framing pieces. ended up with 4+ inches chopped and my hair looking nothing like the pictures I showed. you can see in the picture posted how much length was cut. my hair will take months to grow back. the cut Tex gave me isn't horrible but it's nothing like what I wanted and I'm pretty disappointed. my hair isn't exactly hard to cut so it's confusing how it ended so badly read more

I very much enjoyed the wash, cut, and style, and especially the friendly conversation. Plus, I was in and out rather quickly, compared to some places where I feel like they're cutting the same section of hair over and over but nothing changes. I'm specifically recommending TEX MARTIN of Bobbie Freitas Salon in Lafayette. I've praised Tex's work before because he is a super talented stylist and hair color professional. Just this last weekend though, Tex really worked magic on my hair on very short notice. I texted him and let him know I had an emergency situation (a job interview on short notice) and he found a way to fit me into his PACKED schedule. That in itself was huge because he is currently booked a month solid in advance. The miracle was how he transformed my COVID neglected hair into a stylish, modern, crisp and pretty, lightly layered med length bob. My two- toned mostly gray with significant new growth demarcation, lifeless stringy mess was transformed into a chic, blended gray and blonde highlighted and dare I say attractive, modern style. I was exalted. I was lifted to the heights of hair ecstasy. I wish I could have paid him double what he charged. He was so worth it. I got the job ! No doubt the hair was the clincher. It doesn't make me feel good to leave bad reviews but I hope the owners take something away from my experience. I am mostly disappointed that I was charged in full even though my hair did not come out as expected. I left the salon with orange roots (think Donald Trump). I was absolutely horrified. The stylist, who was very sweet, offered to fix my hair. I did book another appointment with her for that Saturday but couldn't bear to go back. I felt rushed out of the salon and everyone just stared at me blankly as if my hair looked normal. I have had bad salon experiences before but none as bad as this. Also, asking your customers to buy purple or blue shampoo to counteract your error is not good customer service. Now I am left having to pay another $120 + tip in order to have my hair look decent. read more

Being blonde I needed highlights but had decided to go Auburn instead. I've always been blonde since childhood but was ready for a change. TRACI was FANTASTIC!! She asked me lots of questions making sure I knew it was going to be drastic. She explained the process and what would take place after. I started going to her a couple of months ago when I got disgusted at my hairdresser for cutting my neck with the clippers one too many times and the salon raising their prices continuously. Jennifer is a godsend. No, you don't understand, so I'll give you a backstory: once upon a time I decided I wanted purple hair. That pretty lilac silver color everyone was rocking. I have natural red hair, or had, and I bleached it twice to get it "white." Except I didn't, and it was yellow, and what happens when you put on purple dye? well... purple is half red, half blue, and red is a hard color to keep. Blue dye on yellow hair makes green coloring. I had green, stringy, broken ends and frizzy seaweed green hair, and not the sexy color that's now making it's rounds. Nope. It was bad. So I went to Jen and said, "help, I'm a hot mess, what can we do?" aaaaaaand through the course of six visits over half a year or plus, it was fixed! We had it at a beautiful bright red color that was exactly what I wanted, and it was lovely. So lovely. But then I box-dyed in a rush before a vacation and ruined it again. Also used some shitty shampoo too, but it was dry and fried. I went back, tail tucked, and we fixed it again. It took a bit of time and quite a few trim-ups, but it's almost back to where it was. Her colorist skills are impeccable. Recently she's used a whole new line on my hair and it's been wonderful; even the dye they normally use is top-notch and sticks around quite a long time. The salon is a decent size, no one is brushing elbows with anyone else. They offer you tea, water, or coffee if you want it and plenty of magazines to catch up on your monthly celeb gossip (if that's your thing). For me, a sign of a good salon is not only just women going, but men too, and there's usually always a guy in there getting a hair cut (and not just because his wife dragged him in.) Staff is SUPER friendly and they carry a ton of awesome products. Parking is limited to the front few spots, which can be a bummer if it's busy, but there's a lot of parking just around the corner or on the street. While their prices are high, I find they're actually a little below average for a typical high-end salon, especially one located in Lafayette, which is a super plus! read more

Cassie's young, has her own cute trendy hair cut and easy to talk too. She made me feel totally comfortable considering Ihad a patch over my eye. The stylist did a very basic hair cut. Nothing special, nothing to want me to come back. The receptionist was very abrupt and not very welcoming. The place is very outdated looking. Be forewarned...if you do not like smelling like perfume for 3 days, do not let them use the hairspray in the pink bottle. OMG. It took 3+ washings to get rid of that nasty smell. I would rate 2.5 stars. Not enough merit for 3 stars, but better than 2. Not anything more special than a cheaper place. read more

Beware. I was specific both when I called and when I arrived that I had fine hair and wanted someone who could deal with it (not fun). What I got was a pink-haired rock and roll hair cutter with her own agenda who clearly heard nothing I said. I asked to leave the back fairly long (she cut it for 45 minutes -- honestly) and left the top and sides way too long (although I asked her to cut those). Perhaps there are some good people here, but beware of stylists with pink hair. read more

This review is for Brandy. I had an appointment with her recently for my partial highlights and this was my first time in this salon. After reading all the reviews I decided to give it a try. She did an awful job. My hair afterwards looked like I had it done 2 months ago and not 5 min ago. Two inches of dark roots, really???!!!! Not to mention that she hasn't even asked if I'd like a blow dry and styling. No, she let me go home just like that . For some reason she considered her job done as long as my hair was dry and not wet, never mind the look. 2 THUMBS DOWN!! Today I had an appointment to have my hair permed by Mrs. Freitas. She started my appointment 15 minutes late, and did not have any product or rollers prepared for my appointment. She had us sit in her salon for a half hour explaining how she was not able to finish HER JOB perming my hair. She kept making bs excuses about how blond hair cannot be permed (which is very untrue because I had a perm 2 years ago) and that perms only make your hair wavy, not curly (like the way she promised my Grandmother it would turn out when my Grandma went to the salon to set the appointment). Mrs. Freitas even said that I would have to curl my hair everyday with a hot curler if I wanted curly hair. My Mother and I traveled from Antioch to Lafayette just for her to tell us she would be willing to try one practice curl in my hair, but she would not do my whole head because she didn't have the time. Even though my appointment was set for today, the 29th at 3:30pm, so that my hair would be done by my birthday on December 30. So long story short I wasted my time, my gas, and I never got my hair done for my birthday because of her very unprofessional way of business. read more

Went to this salon for the first time yesterday for a hair cut. I received a coupon in the mail for a cut and style for $29 (great deal). I am so glad I decided to go here because I got an awesome hair cut by Brandi. My hair was all one length and very flat looking so I wanted to add some layering. She did a dry cut, which is very smart when you are doing layers so that you can see how the hair is going to fall when it is styled. She completely transformed my hair with this hair cut. It has brought out the color more and now you can see my red peek-a-boos. She is really easy going and great to talk to as well. Love her style and her technique. I am so happy! I was so impressed with Tex. Not only did he actually listen to my needs, but he clearly has a wealth of experience. I can't remember the last time I had an appointment with a Master-Stylist who actually worked on my hair AND ONLY my hair. Nowadays stylists usually juggle their time between you and two other clients at the same time, which runs the risks of over processing (been there!) or giving you the cut that other client wanted!. I went to see Anastasia about a week ago for the very first time and I thought she was great! she's professional, friendly and listens to what you want. I LOVE this salon...but really love Traci, the stylist that works there. I have ridiculously long thick very dark brown curly hair....but she has managed over the course of a year to get it a gorgeous soft blond color with NO DAMAGE to my hair! Seriously, she uses a color that lifts up to seven levels that has NO BLEACH. Shes GREAT, plus shes quick and very accomodating when it comes to scheduling!! I have been to some of the best (and expensive, yikes!) salons in the East Bay and SF, and have to say that Traci has been the best, hands down. read more

I was new in town, and wanted to find a hairstylist; I came across a coupon to try this place. Before I made an appointment, I researched reviews online, and many recommended the owner, Bobby. The appearance of the interior and exterior of the salon was like any old beauty parlor in a small town. I wanted a modern, trendy hairstyle, but by the looks of the place, and the hairstyle books on the coffee table, I knew that was not what I was likely to get. Most of the hairstyle books looked like they were from the 1980-1990s. I was glad that I came prepared with a picture of the hairstyle I wanted. Bobby was friendly and professional, but some of her employees made me feel unwelcome; I sensed that they were uncomfortable with someone of another ethnicity in their shop. I asked Bobby to replicate the hairstyle in the picture with a few adjustments. When she was completed, I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it. It's choppy, uneven and she even left some bald spots--YIKES. Brandy cut my husband's hair dry and then washed it---another oddity. Went in for the first time to get my hair cut (which came with a wash and style) and had Anastasia! She did an amazing job and gave me exactly what I was looking for! She was very accommodating with my allergies to almond oil in hair products, and gave me many options to choose from that did not have almond oil in them. I will definitely be coming back! read more

I would not recommend this salon to anyone. I have dark hair and asked for subtle natural-looking highlights to lighten the overall appearance of my hair. What i got was dark hair with random large orange (yes, ORANGE) streaks. Not attractive. I came back in a second time to see if they could do anything to fix it, and they proceeded to add more of the same color that I was unhappy with the first time, ending with my hair looking so much worse than when I started. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I never intend to go back and certainly would not recommend anyone to go there who wants their hair done right. read more
