I'm so disappointed with my experience here. I brought my girls for a trim today and while one got a lovely trim, one came out with butchered bangs. I saw it happening and tried to intervene, but she wasn't listening to me and I didn't want to be pushy. I should have cut it short then and there (pun intended). They also wouldn't blow dry my girls hair either unless we paid for a blow out, which seems extreme since a) they have super short/fine hair and it would have taking a few minutes and b) it was cold and rainy out, so why would you send them out with wet hair?? The worst part is the little one in this pic is turning 5 Friday and will have to rock these bangs at her bday dinner and party I will add, I did call them to tell them how bad the cut was and they did offer "to fix it free of charge"...but I don't want them near my kids bangs again. read more

Booking is recommended and it could not be easier. Phone call was efficiently dealt with and my significant other had the last appointment of the day hence 5.30pm. That would be 5 stars. So why three? The hair cut was ok and it cost $27. So why three? I wish hairdresser small talks would remain small talks and not anti vaxxer propaganda. I understand that the business has been hit but surely the mass vaccination helped and helps to slowly get things reopening. Further more , this stylist had no idea how our own family was affected and that is simply wrong. This was my first time visiting this salon and I was very impressed with the staff, They were able to see me as a "walk in" and they were able to take me in right away. Marianna listened to my needs and gave me a "cool" haircut. We had a pleasant conversation about hair. The owner introduced herself and was super friendly. It really depends who you get. I'm one of those super easy ten minute cuts, so it's pretty hard to go wrong. Stick straight hair that just needs a trim a couple of times a year. I usually get assigned Cindy or "Q", and they're great. Last time I was there, I got this lady with a long name. Not only did she make my ends layered and uneven, but she just had to comment on my thinning hair. Yes, menopause sucks, but you don't have to point it out. read more

They kicked my 3-year-old and me out of California Haircuts because, and I quote, 'they couldn't have a crying kid in the store.' I called California Haircuts (located in Lafayette on Mt Diablo) early this morning to make an appointment for my 3-year-old this afternoon. I mentioned his age when making the appointment, so they were aware of his young age well in advance. We arrived on time for our appointment, and after a brief 10-minute wait, which was not a big deal, they were ready for us. My son started crying because he didn't want his hair cut just as we sat down in the salon chair. I was about to take out my phone to calm him down with a video, knowing he would then allow them to cut his hair because he has at other places, this wasn't his first haircut, but they didn't give me the chance. Seconds after sitting down, another stylist approached us and said, 'I need you to leave because we can't have a crying kid in the store.' This place is absolutely NOT family-friendly. If you have young kids, I recommend avoiding this salon. They showed no patience nor empathy for my child and made it clear they do not welcome them in their store. It was a complete waste of time and an extremely rude experience. I wouldn't give them any stars at all, but the systems forces me to give them at least one. read more

Got a great hair cut, couldn't be happier. A friendly environment, clean and tidy and a great location. It can sometimes be nerve racking to get a hair cut but after doing some plumbing work next door, watching people come and go, it was easy to see this place had a lot of repeat business. I believe her name is Chong, I was impressed, she remembers so many peoples names. All day long she greets so many people and each time has a smile. It's hard in todays climate to find anyone or any business that shows they appreciate your business. Will be coming back for sure. Thanks for the hair cut that was long overdue. The shop just re-opened under the new guidelines and I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, everything was set up to really be as safe as possible for both customers and staff. Hand sanitizer is available for use on the front counter, both before and after your haircut.The number of stations has been reduced and vinyl curtains installed between chairs, to keep things under control. Sweeping and vacuuming was done all the time and care was taken to keep customers separated. As with every place else, masks are required. Chong and everyone there are professional, friendly and really deliver wonderful haircuts.Very highly recommended! read more

Let me start this by sharing the back story. So I went to Great Clips, a block away from California Cuts first and when I got there the lady was cutting a customer's hair. She did see me BUT never said a word. Didn't bother to say a word or have me seated! So I searched on Yelp and found California Haircuts. I gave them a call and told me that they have an opening. When I got there, they immediately attended to me. Cindy, my hairdresser patiently listened on how I wanted my hair done. She NEVER went ahead and cut it the way she wanted (which happens to me often). She was very professional, polite, and most of all great at what she's doing. It has taken me awhile to post here but i am reminded having passed the store the other day. My husband used to come here regularly and had his frequent customer card marked each time. On his free cut, he presented the card and was chalenged noting that they did not recognize the initials on the card. He told them that this was their staff and proceeded to get into a disagreement with them he told them he would not lie over the cost of a cut and left. Well, while next door at CVS, they tracked him down for not paying. He went back and begrudgingly thrww the money on the counter. Never been back. Been getting my haircut here for probably more than 20 years. I got lucky and went in Monday, just before I believe they were closed down again by the governor. They have clear curtains around every station, plexiglass shield at the front counter and an air purifier. Everyone was wearing masks and gloves and everyone was very friendly. Do not ever get a wax at this place. I decided to get my eye brows waxed while my boyfriend was getting a hair cut. The woman that waxed my eye brows was highly incapable. She got wax in my hair (that I just had done the day before), wax on my clothes, and left crusty dry wax around my eyebrows after she was done. She yanked hair out of my head trying to get the wax out even though I told her I would wash it out myself. She also took a very long time. I asked her to stop using wax and just pluck but she wouldn't listen. Heed my warning!!! read more

Wonderful! I was able to squeeze in a cut during the June opening, and was itching to get back as soon as we were allowed. I made an appointment for 9/6 with my girl Julie (I also adore Sodaphone) and was able to get an appointment at the time I needed. During the appointment, I felt safe, cared for, and perfectly styled. I'm using my boyfriends yelp for this which shows how upset I am because I never write reviews. I am a woman and I wanted to save money by not going to a salon that typically charges me $120 so I tried this place. The first time made me cry with how poorly I was treated, the second time I thought maybe it was just that person so I tried again with a woman named Sadaphone. I showed her a photo of me with a haircut length I like. Terrible the second time but not as bad as the first time so I was somewhat happy. Today was my third and final time at this haircut place and with Sadaphone. I have short curly hair which I prefer to have a certain length but still have a feminine shape. If you're a woman like me with my hair STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. Yes Sadaphone was polite but proceeded to not speak to me throughout the haircut to check in, she just starting cutting it. Again I showed her a photo of me with a good haircut and she basically gave me a men's haircut and actually made me look like I was going bald with the shape and cut she gave me. When I told her how I typically liked my sides and back when I saw she was just going to leave them like a man's blunt shape straight across she said "Sorry next time I'll ask".....like that's what you're supposed to ask people before you chop their hair off. Overall everyone there seems to only be knowledgeable with men's haircuts who just like a trim or a buzz cut, they have no modern haircut knowledge for a diverse clientele.
