( that's why there a picture of bubbles for TADC sticking out his tongue because that was the face I made while throwing up) Service A: it's great. Price and valueB: it's bit questionable, like why is the chicken strips $7.25 for 2 but $8.25 for 3 I don't know if the fries go with the chicken or not but it the fries didn't come with the chicken strips shouldn't it be $10.90, but I'm all right because the food kinda affordable, also can we talk about the portions like why are the chicken strips so huge but the fries were super tiny like even tinier than most places kids menus. AtmosphereA: there's the right amount of background noise, the tables were clean. The seating was great. ( besides some ribs on the couch table,) OverallB: it's a great place to eat in the hipster part of town just don't get the chicken strips. They have specials every day! I got the most delicious rib tip plate on Thursday with 2 sides for 10 bucks! So much delicious meat I couldn't even eat all the rib tips! They were yummy and messy! Make sure you get napkins! So good they are finger licking good ! My husband got a combo 3 meat plate and he loved it too! Service staff are really nice. Treat you like family. Never been to this place before but I felt like I was home. Lots of locals being called by name. It's a place you can bring family and friends and have a good time and eat well. Went to Grad school at ESU in the early 2000's and this was our favorite place to eat when we had the chance to get out. They had the best ribs I'd ever had back then. And I can say that ALL these years later, they still have the best ribs. We've eaten ribs all over Texas, Kansas, and other locales that claim to know BBQ, and none of them can hold a candle to Bobby D's. Happy to make a pit stop here every time we trek from Texas to Iowa. I even make sure to grab a slab to go for my dad in Iowa, as he loves them as much as we do. read more

This unassuming place has big eats despite looking to be a small town place. The food within is VERY GOOD and worthy of that Kansas BBQ reputation. We started off with some onion rings and fried mushrooms which hit the spot after being outside all morning playing disc golf. Pairs well with a cold beer too. :) Then the mains themselves were amazing. I had a half slab of ribs and they were HUGE with the meat just falling off the bone. Their flavor and tenderness were so yummy that my mouth just waters writing about it. My fellow eaters got the burnt ends, which I felt were okay. They seemed a bit fatty and the meaty pieces were a bit overcooked - because of that, it's the reason it wasn't a perfect 5 stars. read more

You can order any of the meat and be satisfied but order the ribs and be awed. I had the 3 Meat + 1 combo, which included 3 choices from their smoked meats plus 1 rib. I wish I'd ordered just the ribs. The burnt ends were so-so but made better by adding sweet BBQ sauce. The pulled pork had a nice smoky taste. The brisket was tender but not all that remarkable. But the rib...tender and smoky with a slight crispy dry rub bark. No sauce--didn't need it. Juicy and just incredible taste. A side came with the combo and from the dozen choices I had baked beans with meat bits mixed in. Satisfying. A companion enjoyed their grilled salmon. Fried okra retained its crispy batter throughout the meal. Wednesday evening the casual, downtown Emporia place was packed and stayed busy between 7 and 9. The service was great however the food was terrible. We went on a Thursday afternoon. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fried okra. I had the 3 meat plate consisting of pulled pork, brisket and sausage. The pork was very dry and bland. The okra was slime on the inside. The sausage was decent, but the brisket was the grossest thing I have ever tried. It was sliced paper thin but still managed to be tough and chewy. It had no smoke ring! It also had an off taste like it had been sitting around too long. It definitely wasn't fresh. We ended up not eating what they served besides the sausage. My partner and I were here for dirty Kanza bike race. We were looking for a place to eat and radius brewing company had an hour wait. We stumbled across the street and were pleasantly surprised. We sat at the bar to expedite things, although we could have waited a little longer for a table. The man who took care of us at the bar was great. Amazing customer service. I had the burnt ends and my partner had some type of sandwich. We cannot wait to go back! We went to St. Louis on the way home and none of the BBQ joints compare! I had the Cuban. Mostly bread and lettuce. My husband had the ribs. They weren't done and mostly fat.

Food was cold after waiting forever to get. Cheesy potatoes were half cooked and almost no cheese in them. Broccoli salad is broccoli and a few shreds of carrot. Not tasty at all. I no longer live in Emporia, but Bobby D's is such a nice hometown treat! The atmosphere is great - nice mom and pop feel with friendly staff. Service is always speedy here and the food is always served hot. My favorite thing to get here is the pulled pork sandwich. It's simple but never disappoints. I usually add a fair amount of Bobby D's barbecue sauce because it's delicious. One of the best parts of Bobby D's is the large selection of sides. I always have a difficult time choosing a side because they're all so good. The French fries are nice and crispy and are seasoned with Bobby D's special seasoning. The baked beans are delicious and have bits of meat included. My favorite side by far are the cheesy potatoes. They are wonderful! A trip to Bobby D's isn't complete without some cheesy potatoes. Go there and get knee-deep in the stuff. What's good (in order of goodness): ribs, beef, turkey - the ham and the pulled pork were unexceptional. Also, the french fries and the cole slaw were decidedly above-average. Busy on a saturday, but the staff were super-friendly. Interesting take on the cuban sandwich. My review is bias being from Texas and we do bbq differently. I had the meat trio + 1 but did not get the rib that was suppose to come with it as listed on the menu. I did not bring it up to the server so no fault on his. For the meats I had sausage, brisket and burnt ends. Starting off the fried pickles were very good! The sausage was good and had a nice spice. The brisket was bland and needing a sauce to add any flavor. There was no smoke ring present on the cuts. The burnt ends were just that burnt and fatty. They were very dry and tough, which was sad because they looked super moist. The service was very tentative and quick. My only complaint was when I was seated it was by the hostess/bartender telling me there is a table over there pointing towards the dinning room area in a very non informative way. All in all not bad bbq, but not as good as Texas bbq. read more

The positive: the service was fast and friendly, the cheesy potatoes were really tasty. I didn't expect to like them. The burnt end tasted good and tasted fresh. The Spicey Bbq sauce was very good! The negative: the brisket (as was shared by another review was tough and rubbery. It tasted like it was refrigerated leftovers that were heated up on the grill.
