Finally placed a takeout order at Bob's having passed by it many times, and glad we tried it. Our order was ready on time as promised and was accurately put together. I tried a broiled quarter chicken with two sides (mac & cheese, sausage stuffing) and some corn bread. Everything seemed home made, hot and quite tasty. The stuffing really seemed home made, but the mac and cheese was a tad dry for my liking. The chicken was tender, moist and delicious. Like most food these days at any restaurant/supermarket, prices seemed a tad high. Portion sizes were generous however. We were exploring Portsmouth a bit late of the day. We walked around town. Then decided on dinner to takeout. Our kids decided on having poke so our choice is to bring it back to our hotel to eat. We walked in the resturant and was empty. One guy was running the whole floor. Our food was just OK. I mean you can't go wrong with rotisserie chicken. Lol. It was not the juiciest chicken ever. Was actually a bit dry on the breasts. The corn was tasteless. Lol. The butternut squash tasted like sweet potatoes mash. Lol. It was OK also. Visiting the Portsmouth and too lazy to leave our hotel on a rainy day, we ordered a family meal with a rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and steamed broccoli. Everything tasted great. Came here hoping for something different. I had decide to get a potpie and a 2 thigh quarter meal but I was undecided on the side when I came in to order. I went with 3 sides, 1 with my potpie in which I got a cole slaw, and 2 with my chicken plate and got mac and cheese and real mashed potatoes. I got the chicken gravy with my plate as well. I was surprised and happy that there was a $5 Yelp check coupon which I got to use as I has bought enough to get the discount. The restaurant itself is a real old feel diner style restaurant that you hardly see anymore. Bench style chair and not that large at all. They had a pie shelf as well which you rarely see anymore. There was a reading group there at the time, and a group of first time visitors as well. I just ordered take out as I wanted to watch some videos at my hotel. I got the food and it was quite heavy which was great. At my hotel, I ate the chicken pot pie. It was like thick chicken soup with fresh chicken with a puff pastry on top. Not the kind of pot pie I was expecting but it was good. The cole slaw was forgetable but they gave a lot. After eating the pot pie I was full so I took my chicken plate to work with me. I think I messed up the reheating of the plate but the chicken was still perfect and tasty, I overcook microwaved the mac and cheese and underheated the potatoes and gravy. But they all tasted delicious and I know that fresh it would have been perfectly delicious. I was pretty amazed that the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. This review is long overdue. Ordered take out this evening again. The chicken tender dinner with a side of cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Everything from the pleasant service to the way the food was packed, to the taste of the food was fantastic. Bob makes a habit of being on the premises which is a key reason why there's consistency. The chicken is cooked to perfection. Everything tastes so fresh. I love this restaurant because they're always grateful. This is my go-to restaurant for fresh chicken. We were driving from Boston to Portland, ME when we stopped by Portsmouth NH for lunch when we happen to see Bob's Broiled Chicken Resto. Looked like it had good reviews on Yelp so we tried it. Well, it didn't disappoint! The servings were big but what caught my amazement was their presentation of their pot pie! I've been going here since I was a baby! And it's always been amazing! If you want comforting, home cooked food, this is the place to go. The chicken is always perfectly cooked, and they really do have THE BEST chicken tenders. Seriously, they are the best. I also think they have the best French fries (hand cut), as well as chicken Parmesan, homemade sauces, pies... everything. Everything from Bob's Chicken is so good! Nice, home style restaurant, much roomier on the inside than it appears (maybe the restaurant is actually a TARDIS? ;) ) the food selection is extensive, and all homemade, and you can taste the care that went into it, their homemade cornbread is not to be missed! It pairs well with their hearty chicken soup, which has a unique take on chicken soup (mushrooms appear to be an ingredient, as does some variety of zucchini in addition to the typical carrot, potatoes and celery) that works well Service is always friendly and attentive, and feels family run. I work within walking distance at the local Macintosh reseller, and it's always hard to resist the temptation to stop in every day, but I'm trying to eat healthy and cut down on expenses, Bobs definitely has healthy choices, but the prices on the pictured menus are out of date, prices have gone up, it's understandable, they need to make a profit to stay in business (any good Ferengi knows that ;) ) but the review loses one star for the out of date menus, an easy fix to gain back a star though The prices are the only drawback to me, but I know it's the cost of doing business, and given the quality of the food, and friendliness of the staff, it's acceptable, plus, as an '80s kid at heart's, I like the decor, definitely adds to the 'hominess' read more

This restaurant gets for great food and excellent staff! The staff (which I believe may be the owners) are so welcoming and kind. This is so refreshing to me because I'm so used to having very little interaction with restaurant staff members, especially when it's a takeout order. It's usually just me going up to the counter and saying that I'm picking up an order, paying and leaving, but not at BBC, this restaurant represents what I believe in whole heartedly "The Golden Rule"! So if you're looking for some juicy, tender chicken and to die for corn bread than this is the place for you! I wanted to give this 5 stars like all the reviews but I can't giving it 2 only because the server was very nice. The food bland & flavorless. Had a broiled chicken breast w/wing ( the wing was like a stub with leather like texture) the breast was moist and tiny with no flavor. Got two sides, ThevButternut squash which was a pile of tasteless nothingness and looked awful. Also got Carrot with honey & dill, they had no flavor left because they've had the flavor boiled or steam for a couple of days to keep them hot. The cornbread that comes with it was as dry sawdust and wasn't fresh, it had that stale crust from sitting out. It deserves 1 star at best but gave it 2 only because of the server was nice. read more

Saw an ad, was finally in the area, and walked in. Everything is fresh and home-cooked. The tenders were crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the hot sauce was the perfect mixture of heat and flavor. I got the macaroni and cheese side, which was just like home, and the fries were delicious as well. The bleu cheese sauce was the best I've ever had. I never thought their secret ingredient would go so well with it before I tried it. Joe was also a fantastic server - talkative, funny, and helpful. I like it. My wife usually suggests Bob's and I'm glad to go along. The chicken is moist and delicious, the mac and cheese is very good, and the cole slaw is tangy. They have coupons and cards that they stamp when you go. Eat 6 meals and get $5 off the next one. Prices are good so $5 makes a difference. This very luscious and abundant chicken pot pie was so full of chicken - along with carrots, onion and celery - real mashed potatoes, and a big hunk of yummy 'made from scratch' cornbread (that was free by the way) was only 10.89. The restaurant is really cute. It's a homey little diner type place with curtains in the windows, a handmade flock of chickens quilt on one wall, and lots of porcelain chickens of all shapes and sizes ... They also have big homemade cookies, pies, etc, salads, soups, sandwiches, wings turkey meatloaf and haddock. Oh and they serve beer and wine. We've got three hungry kids in our house, so we look for takeout places that have big meals that will please everybody. Bob's never disappoints. Their chicken (tenders, quarters) is always fresh and juicy. It's not greasy like a lot of other places. Try their pies, sauces, and salad dressings. All scratch made and no preservatives. Their service is always great. Joe goes out of his way to take care of everyone. Bottom line: the adults love it, the kids love it. The price is reasonable and it's healthier than most places. I agree with other reviewers about the atmosphere. It's homey, comfortable and clean. The service is friendly and courteous. The food is good (see pic). The chicken is tender and juicy. The potatoes are real and are served with good portions. The mac and cheese is authentic (made with real macaroni and real cheese, no powders or extra fancy sauce bases, or any extra unexpected ingredients). Not a fan of their gravy. Lemonade is good. Iced tea is just OK. Their fried zucchine and mushroom appetizer is great. Crispy and deep friend golden. Yummy. I wasn't overly impressed with their cornbread, but my boyfriend loved it. Like he ate his piece, and MY peice and raved about it to our server, who - when we got a to go box - threw some extra pieces in for us. When we got home and he discovered the extra pieces of cornbread, you would have swore he found $10,000 in the box. The prices are great - very reasonable. Portions are great. Didn't try their desserts, but took a looksie at their pies, and they are indeed homemade and looked delicious. I don't know why it took me so long to try. Will go back. read more

Sure the decor may look like it's stuck in the '80s and/or maybe original to the restaurant's opening, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying some tasty chicken cooked in various ways. I had the broiled chicken with breast/wing with sides of sausage stuffing and parsley new potatoes. The chicken gravy is so tasty you'll want to put it on everything. This was our first time at Bobs. We went on a whim after gymnastics. We weren't sure what to expect, but found it charming and tasty. We were greeted at the door by what seemed to be the only person working. We chose a booth and were seated. The menu, as the name would imply, was chicken focused. I picked the dark meat quarter chicken with steamed broccoli and smashed potatoes. The broccoli was over cooked. The potatoes were good. He forgot my gravy. The chicken was tasty. My 4 year old got the chicken fingers which was the best thing any of us got. My wife said they were the best around. We'll go back but probably stick to chicken fingers.
