    Chicken pot pie
    Peter T.

Came here hoping for something different. I had decide to get a potpie and a 2 thigh quarter meal but I was undecided on the side when I came in to order. I went with 3 sides, 1 with my potpie in which I got a cole slaw, and 2 with my chicken plate and got mac and cheese and real mashed potatoes. I got the chicken gravy with my plate as well. I was surprised and happy that there was a $5 Yelp check coupon which I got to use as I has bought enough to get the discount. The restaurant itself is a real old feel diner style restaurant that you hardly see anymore. Bench style chair and not that large at all. They had a pie shelf as well which you rarely see anymore. There was a reading group there at the time, and a group of first time visitors as well. I just ordered take out as I wanted to watch some videos at my hotel. I got the food and it was quite heavy which was great. At my hotel, I ate the chicken pot pie. It was like thick chicken soup with fresh chicken with a puff pastry on top. Not the kind of pot pie I was expecting but it was good. The cole slaw was forgetable but they gave a lot. After eating the pot pie I was full so I took my chicken plate to work with me. I think I messed up the reheating of the plate but the chicken was still perfect and tasty, I overcook microwaved the mac and cheese and underheated the potatoes and gravy. But they all tasted delicious and I know that fresh it would have been perfectly delicious. I was pretty amazed that the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I think I would definitely come here again if I am craving chicken. The waitress/counter lady was really nice too. She was part of the reading group as well.

We were driving from Boston to Portland, ME when we stopped by Portsmouth NH for lunch when we happen to see Bob's Broiled Chicken Resto. Looked like it had good reviews on Yelp so we tried it. Well, it didn't disappoint! The servings were big but what caught my amazement was their presentation of their pot pie! The flaky "pie" crust was on top of the chicken and vegetables we usually see inside the regular pie. The portion was huge (for me) and it tasted really good!

Comfort food at its finest. In Portsmouth's West End. Great chicken, terrific meat loaf. A little quiet inside but relaxing.

Located at the Gallagher's Place strip plaza, Bob's Broiled Chicken is one of those hidden gems, which serves up great tasting rotisserie broiled chicken for dine-in or takeout. The menu also offers chicken tenders, wings, pot pie, haddock, salads, soups, sandwiches, tasty sides, kids meals, cold & hot drinks, and desserts. Weekday Lunch Specials served 11:30AM to 3:00PM. Beer and wine are available. See the menu at http://www.bobschicken.com The full service dining room has booth & table seating with red and green painted walls with country decor like the holidays at Grandma's. The clientele seems to attract an older crowd because the prices here are very reasonable with good food portions. Recently, I stopped here for takeout and got the Cold Sliced Roast Chicken Wrap (wheat) with a side of sausage stuffing & corn bread ($7.00 with tax). The Chicken Wrap was very tasty, which had cold juicy cubed chicken slices, lettuce, tomato slices, & mayo in a wheat wrap. However, the wrap was very fragile and fell apart as I was eating, messy-messy. The sausage stuffing and sweet cornbread were very good as well too. Can't wait to come back for more! HOURS: Mon-Sat: 11:30AM-9:00PM; Sun: 4:00PM-8:00PM

The food appearance was horrible and the taste was even nastier. The French fries were dead not crispy at all and they were mixed with the corn. Yuck Plus the chicken was not broiled at all. Will never ever return to this nasty restaurant.

We were told they cook a new batch of chicken every 10 minutes. It was nice to know that it hadn't been cooked at noon and sitting under a heat lamp all day. And it tasted like it was freshly cooked. I had the Lamb Gyro and my husband had a fried chicken Value Box. My gyro was the best I've had in NH. It was truly the biggest gyro as well. The pita bread was fresh, soft and tasty. The lamb was yummy and no tough pieces. It came with all the fixings. If you can image a regular paper plate folded in half, that is how big the gyro was; the paper plate was for stabilization. It was a very yummy meal in itself. The chicken in the Value Pack was fresh, juicy and tasted much better than the national chicken chain. It was still hot when we got it home 30 minutes later. The meal came with 9 pieces of chicken (and the wings were larger than the puny ones at the national chain), 2 small containers of mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and a container of cole slaw. The mashed potatoes were really good - they had a nice buttery flavor. The cole slaw was excellent and fresh. The cabbage still had a crunch to it and just a tad bit of sweetness. The rolls were also fresh and soft. You can eat-in but everyone was doing take-out when we were there (about 6:30 pm on a Saturday. The service was fast, efficient and polite. The food was a great value for the price. We will be going back and highly recommend it.

Maaz's Chicken serves up fried chicken, sandwiches, gyros, burgers, rice platters, fried seafood, appetizers, salads, desserts, and cooler drinks (Pepsi products/Gatorade). The prices here seem reasonable. I stopped by Maaz's Chicken for lunch and dinner on Grand Opening Day when they were giving out free lunch (selected items) and 50 percent off the menu all day. The place was very busy with a line out the door. The owner had a DJ playing music near the entrance and chatting with customers. The owner is from Rhode Island and actually works across the border in Mass. The owner was looking for a place to open a chicken restaurant and chose Franklin, NH since it's a good area, bypassing Franklin, MA (for now) much closer to Bellingham, MA and Rhode Island. The lunch line was very busy and I eventually got up to the counter and ordered the Chicken Sandwich and 2 pc Fried Chicken with Fries and can of Diet Pepsi and strawberry Hood Ice Cream for dessert, all complementary for lunch. The chicken sandwich was big with a thick breaded buffalo tender with lettuce & mayo, pretty good. The shoestring fries were decent and the fried chicken had a nice crispy salty coating on the outside. I decided I would return later for dinner takeout. I returned for dinner takeout several hours later and the place was getting slammed with the line almost to the door. I ordered a bunch of food including a Beef Gyro ($8.99 plus tax), 6 Mozzarella Sticks ($6.25 plus tax), Chicken Over Rice Platter ($10.99 plus tax) and a 2 Pc Tilapia with Fries & Slaw ($11.99 plus tax). With the Grand Opening Discount, my total with tax was $20.83. After ordering, there was another line of customers waiting to pick up their food after paying. I waited about 16 minutes for my big order to be all set. They did run out of cole slaw and let me substitute Banana Pudding which is normally the same price as cole slaw ($2.99 plus tax). I checked my order before leaving and everything was there. I enjoyed my big dinner back at the office and the portions of food were generous. The Chicken Over Rice Platter was excellent, which had firm seasoned rice topped with marinated hot chicken pieces, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, white sauce. The Beef Gyro was overflowing with beef gyro meat, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and a house dressing in a soft warm thick wrap. The Mozzarella Sticks were standard and came with marinara dipping sauce. The 2 Pc Tilapia with Fries was comprised of 2 good size fried tilapia filets with a seasoned breading and a pile of shoestring fries, tartar sauce was provided too. The Banana Pudding was sweet and topped with Nilla Wafer cookies. Overall, I was able to try a variety of foods here at Maaz's Chicken including the grand opening lunch and discounted dinner food. The fried chicken though crispy outside was very salty and dry, probably due to the volume of customers ordering the same thing. The fries at lunch time were not very hot (staff trying to serve the masses at lunch) and the fries I got with my tilapia dinner were hot and firm. The Chicken Over Rice Platter and Beef Gyro were excellent and my favorites of the day. This rating is based on the dinner takeout (4.5/5.0) and not on the grand opening lunch.

The chicken is often spectacular but just as often only good, sometimes coming out dry, sloppy, or much saltier (as with some other dishes) than the time before. The service, which was once a hallmark, has tailed off as well. Slightly less experienced, slightly less friendly, and sometimes oblivious or rude. Nothing close to a dealbreaker, but noticeable. -- Wings: They now have four varieties, and I've tried all four. The newest concoction, Makham Glazed Wings (tamarind fish sauce caramel with fried garlic), has great crunch and dazzling, complex flavor. All four are worth trying, so I rotate with each visit. The sauces are top notch. -- Chicken Sandwich: At its best, absolutely elite, from the soft bun to the crunchy shell to the juicy meat to the spicy and velvety additions. But once a little undercooked and once a little dry-- still good; just not great on those occasions. A lunchtime must. -- Cabbage Salad: Still delicious, but hoo boy, salty. -- Crispy Mushroom Waterfall: My wife enjoys it but has noticed significant shrinkage. -- Brussels Sprouts: Lots of flavor here and good crunch. -- Moo Ping (pork skewers): Still delicious, but down from 4 skewers to 3, smaller, and less glaze and spice. Had I not had their off-the-charts-spectacular earlier servings, I might think the same now. Still good, just not as good. Crispy Gai comes through often enough and I'm still coming back. They're still sometimes spectacular. It's just that it's not dependably so and they might have already peaked.

The short version: they take pride in their product and it turns out well above the usual. Friendly family operation. -- Buffalo Wings: Not gargantuan, but good size. Good contrast between crisp skin and tender inner flesh. Decent juiciness on the drums and very good juiciness on the flats. Tasty sauce. -- Fries: When I learned they're not fresh hand-cut, the owner was kind enough to provide a small sample to try. A decent rendition for frozen.  -- Nashville Hot Wings: Tried on the second visit, as a combo with coleslaw and split with an eating buddy. A clinical presentation of technical wings perfection, with each piece crisp outside, tender and juicy inside, and generously coated but not overloaded with fresh, tasty wing sauce. A little grit to this one to deliver dry spices as well as liquid, and a noticeable amount of heat that complemented nicely. A joy to view and a joy to eat. -- Mango Habanero Hot Wings: Tried on the second visit, as a combo with onion rings and split with an eating buddy. More technical perfection and similar praise for the sauce, which balances sweet and heat nicely. Even nicer was a little garnish of mango on top. Like the Nashville Hot, these were superb. (And if you check my other reviews, you'll see that I don't go throwing around compliments and 5-star reviews to just anyone.) -- Onion Rings: A frozen product, but crisp, not greasy, and seasoned. Not seafood shack or roast beef joint quality, but good for what it was. -- Coleslaw: A larger-than-expected serving with an unexpected flavor. Crisp, creamy, but with a certain something or somethings that begged for more forkfuls. Seeds (I think caraway) and fruit (cranberries and apples) added oomph and a floral component. If I didn't have plans after, I'd have bought more to take home. Friendly, hands-on owner who puts his heart and soul into the food, from the presentation (including a stainless steel bone dish and plastic gloves) to the pinpoint technical excellence of the wings (nailed the crisp, the juiciness, the right amount of sauce) to the creativity (the mango garnish; apples and cranberries in the coleslaw). Even without table service, comfy booths, and beer, an easy 5.
