Eggs Frijoles love that they put the hollandaise sauce on the side for me.

My friends and I made it just before they closed last Sunday. It was busy and had live music. It is a large place! I move on Saturday the 28th but if you're in the area - check out their Latin dance night! The food was delicious and the service was great. No one seemed upset we arrived 10 minutes before closing. If you're in Kittery - get away from the outlets and check out the Blue Mermaid - especially if you enjoy Caribbean flavor. Not too pricey, either.

I ordered online but the order must not have went through, probably my fault, when I arrived I ordered again and everyone was very friendly and helpful. I ordered salmon with rice and asked what the seasonal vegetable was, I was told broccoli then did a little dance cause I love broccoli. Once I arrived back at the Airbnb I realized I got a salad??? Not broccoli and rice entree I thought I ordered. I looked online and I'm not sure what dish I received. It was good, it had salmon. I didn't get dressing so I ate it dry. I think it may have the potential to be an amazing dish. Does it normally come with a dressing???

What! The Blue Moon has made our weekly favorite list! Great staff, fresh food, FABULOUS FRIES THAT HAVE POTATO SKIN, atmosphere is comfortable and a touch of island music. Grab someone and head over.

Some photos from my recent visit. The short rib entree was outstanding. The Rasta pasta was yummy but could've been spicier. The tips were great too!

How often do you find a hot dog on the menu? This one was great

This was our first trip back to the Blue Mermaid since they relocated from Portsmouth, and I'm glad we gave it a try. Since it was a beautiful evening, we decided to have dinner outdoors on their pleasant and comfortable patio. We did poke inside and the space looked great, so much nicer and bigger than the Portsmouth spot. We had the nicest waitress and service was spot on throughout the meal. Cocktails were delicious and potent. We tried the pretzels and pub cheese and "saddle bags" for starters. Both appetizers were great. Saddle bags are a bit like fried wontons, and the pretzels were warm and delicious. We had mixed results with our entrees. I had the Bahn Mi Hot dog, huge and delicious. It's not often you find a hot dog as a dinner option, so I threw caution to the wind, and glad I did. We also tried the lobster quesadilla, and I suppose we should have known better. At a $15 price point and with lobster prices sky high today, it was really mostly cheese and scant lobster. In fact there were pieces of the quesadilla that had no lobster at all. I think they need to make this a market price item and use a proper amount of lobster, or find a more affordable filling. It was tasty otherwise, but a letdown. All in all, a very pleasant dinner, and glad we made the effort to find them. They are a bit off the beaten path, but worth the trip.

First time here. And I will be back. Staff was welcoming and pleasant. Interior is so pretty , light and bright. Lunch was served quickly and was delicious. Def a gem in Kittery.

The poutine was so good and the portion sizes were really large. Everything I ordered was pretty tasty. The viet fish surprisingly had decent flavor. I'd skip the fried chicken. Stars if the show were poutine and salads. The fried cauliflower was not great - too much breading

The ambience is quite brilliant. That dozens of picnic tables are long lined up on a pier over an inlet where the ocean tide runs far in and out. The restaurant is known for its lobster, clams, oysters, mussels, chowder, and side dishes. One of us got fish and chips. Two of us each had a dozen oysters. One got a mussels. We got corn on the cob, coleslaw, and fries as side dishes. when we arrived, the tide had just started moving out down the river. By the time we were done eating, the tide was a good 4 feet lower, and that was fun to watch. most of the order takers and servers appear to be high school and college aged. Their moods or light and cheery. The food was all excellent. The price is were reasonable, for example, each medium sized shocked oyster was two dollars on the half shell come on a bed of ice. Really, the only issue we had was that our side dishes were not delivered to our table until we reminded one of the servers. And that was no big deal. One of the great things about this place is that BYOB is encouraged, and many people brought a small cooler of beer or chilled wine. We brought plenty of local beers and a couple of cans of premixed cocktails. We all agreed that the experience was pretty amazing personally because none of us really knew how to crack open a lobster properly and get all of the meat, so we watched other local people go through their lobster routine. This is not a dress up kind of place. It was more of a wonderful hole in the wall. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

I love the byob vibe, big bench tables, and sitting on the water to enjoy some local seafood. But the food just didn't hit the mark for me. I got a lobster roll, but was really underwhelmed. It came on a cold, untoasted/buttered hamburger bun straight from a bag. The lobster tasted ok, but the whole emsemble was very dry and lacked flavor. Friends who got the whole lobster loved it, and I sampled a friend's coconut shrimp and it was divine. Fries and corn were good, and the clam chowder wasn't bad either! I guess I just ordered the wrong menu item, but considering how much it cost, and that they move so many of them, this was pretty disappointing.

It even says on the bottom of the menu "no substitutes. Our chefs make the menu for a specific purpose." Or something like that. But if that's the case, then I'd like to think the food would be good! Maybe our chef was out or something because it was bland and cooked improperly. First of all, it took forty five minutes just to get appetizers. And then our waitress took another 30 to take our food order. And then it took another hour for our food. We were there for three hours. Which is fine, but we were starving!!! The drinks were delicious but one was a bottle of wine, so that seems like the bare minimum. Beside service being slow (our waitress nice but very busy), let's get into the food which was the most disappointing thing... the flatbread was dry. The Brussel sprouts were good but the lardons were hard as a rock (clearly they cook things too long here). The salmon was good but portions seemed small. The soup was fine. The steak was supposed to come medium rare, but as you can see, it was closer to medium well (for $48 that is upsetting and embarrassing they couldn't cook a steak properly). My aunt got the chicken dish and she said it was the blandest thing she's ever had. But the biggest issue was the burger... It was my dad's birthday. So it was extremely frustrating when the burger, the thing he ordered, came out black. And there is a picture of it if you want to take a look. BLACK. Why bring it out? That is so bad on the restaurant! Our waitress immediately came over and said "we are making a new bun right now." So why bring it out? And the fries were cold. Same with my mom's haddock (everything was cold). He also asked for the burger to be medium rare and it was quite literally gray. I think when you go to a nice restaurant, you expect good food. And it was disrespectful to my father on his birthday. Thank goodness they took it off our bill (for that we are grateful), but clearly the kitchen needs some assistance because it ruins the experience when everyone is waiting to eat because one dish is done wrong. And clearly done wrong. It's expensive to go out nowadays. I'm not spending money on food that is mediocre at best. This was frustrating. Thank goodness for the nice view otherwise I feel like this restaurant wouldn't exist. sadly we won't be coming back and waiting weeks for this dinner was not worth it. Don't waste your money here. Or go for cocktails. That was at least good.

They serve various size of lobsters as well as cook them for you. However they do not provide place to eat or utensils so they function more as a market than a restaurant. They have sort of a parking lot where you can park. There are few works on the back hanging around and 2 younger staff that take care of orders. Lobster has quite few size options and some explanations for terms they use. We weren't sure what to get but figure we wanted larger size lobsters. SLX which is the largest ones were $14 per pound. They can also let you pick them live as well but we chose 2 lb ones. They charge $1.5 to boil but it's a-lot of work to boil properly so it's worth it. We waited about 20-25minutes or so and they also chilled it so that we can take it home to eat. Luckily we had ice box with some ice packs so it kept the lobster fresh until getting home. Once we got home we opened the bag to eat the lobster. It's a huge lobster with large claws. We got a large bowl and separate plate to eat. It was a massive task to crack the claws as one of the claw was huge and very tough. We ended up using a hammer and dull knife to crack them open. The meat was tender and sweet. One of the best maine lobster we had. Overall the place provides fresh maine lobster for good price. Only issue is that they don't serve it so you will need to plan to take it home and have tools to crack them open. They also only take cash. If i were to come back i would give them a call a head of time to have the lobster prepared to go and pick them up which seems to be what other people were doing.

And they have the displays to match. On this partly cloudy afternoon, I was in search of lobster tails. Upon requesting them, I discovered two things.. 1.) Unfortunately, the tails offered are not very big. Near as I can figure, they come in packs of 3 of what appear to be around 5 ounces each. 2.) Lobster really IS more affordable if you buy it in Maine. For context, a standard two pack of lobster tails at 5 ounces each (or sometimes 4oz) costs me around $25 in NH at the time of writing this review. The 3 pack of the same size tails costs the same price here at Taylor. So, naturally I bought two of those and ultimately nabbed a little under 2 pounds of lobstah for a mere $50. Sufficed to say - we will most certainly return at a future date. I have my eyes set on the fresh lobster meat next. As mentioned, everything in the glass display looked delicious. The place is easy enough to find. Just be aware their entrance is actually not in the front of the building, but on the right hand side. It's a little confusing at first, especially considering the tiny street view sign doesn't help much. If you drive into the "boat drop off" section, you're on the wrong side. Other items I wouldn't mind trying next visit are their lobster bisque and clam chowder. If you're coming across the border as I do, one pro tip I'd offer is to bring a cooler to keep your produce in for the day as you travel back. We transported the lobstah back in my car on an 85 degree day and the gel ice packs kept everything cold enough not to oxidize. Definitely check this place out for all your fresh seafood needs.
