Absolutely delicious food and friendly staff! It's an occasional treat for me because seafood in general is expensive.

My wife ordered the Scallop dinner special at $9.99 and I got a two way combo of shrimp and belly clams. The scallops turned out to be the small bay scallops (tasty but a bit of a disappointment). My clams were a bit overcooked but my shrimp while small were delicious. French fries were good and ample. Dessert was Shain's ice cream which is always excellent. Prices are very reasonable but the food choices do show how they keep costs down. I'd skip the scallops and go for shrimp and haddock instead. And expect the place to get busy! We're going to be back but maybe when tourists slow down.

But sorry to say none of the food had really good taste. We thought the scallops were actually NOT from a real scallop shell but instead were pressed from fish into a scallop shape and then fried. No scallop taste. The fried belly clams were small, tough & chewy. The lobster roll was small but not much lobster taste. They are winning on super low prices but failing on taste and quality. If you want real Maine seafood pay a little more and get the real taste. But everyone seemed to love the ice cream.

We started the evening with cocktails which were very much to our liking, followed by a delicious appetizer of lobster risotto that we shared. We both ordered the short ribs which were mouthwatering and cooked to perfection that the meat fell off the bone. The servings were enough where we took the bones and whatever meat was left to make a delicious beef soup. Neither one of us were up for dessert but decided to get two to go, which we downed once we got home. And they were both delicious. In closing, I'd be remiss without saying a good word about our server Keila. She was warm, friendly, funny, and very attentive to our table. She made our night to enjoyable! Thanks you Keila ! We look forward to our next visit to The Village Inn soon.

If you loved Village Tavern under the previous owners, you should know that the beloved restaurant you remember no longer exists. The name is the same. The esthetic is the same. Some menu items even have the same names. But the experience is not. During our visit, the calamari, salmon, duck, and haddock were all cooked properly, yet each dish was surprisingly bland and forgettable. Many longtime favorites, including the wide selection of side dishes like the broccoli with blue cheese, are gone. This isn't a bad restaurant on its own merits. The problem is that it's trading on the reputation of something that no longer exists. What I find most puzzling is that the new owners kept the Village Tavern name while abandoning so much of what made it successful. When a restaurant has earned decades of loyalty, you would expect new ownership to preserve its strengths. Instead, it feels like they discarded the very things that built its reputation. I left disappointed, but mostly sad. A restaurant I once considered one of the best in Southern Maine is now simply pedestrian and overly priced. Former fans should adjust their expectations accordingly or avoid the disappointment altogether.

Very nice server, pleasant and was understanding of my mother being hard of hearing. We had a beautiful Portabello Mushroom appetizer. . . . Honestly would be good for a party of 4!!! We ordered fish for dinner, baked haddock with a lobster sauce and the pan seared scallops. Both meals were plated well and piping hot, no heat lamps here!!! Baked Haddock had a lobster sauce and came with choice of two sides. The Scallops were on a bed of sun dried tomato risotto. I added a little salt on the risotto to bring out the flavors. Both dishes were creamy and delish!!! Definitely going back, gonna save room for dessert next time.

The scallop risotto was recommended to me and it did not disappoint! I am looking forward to waiting the leftovers! Creamy, smoky, perfectly cooked scallops accompany a creamy risotto with baby spinach and sun dried tomatoes with fresh prosciutto... heaven in a bite! If seafood is not your thing, don't worry! Their selection of steaks are mouth-watering and are accompanied with options such as mushroom demi-glaze (so delicious), cowboy butter, or horseradish sauce. You can cut the steak with a butter knife!! Add dessert to go- the chocolate lava cake and cheesecake are fresh and yummy too. We will definitely be back for more! Highly recommend!
