I've been back to Bull N' Claw many times over the years, and it has become one of those places I can always count on for a great meal and friendly service. The highlight for me is, without question, the two-foot lobster roll. It's huge, loaded with fresh lobster from end to end, and served on a perfectly soft sub roll. Every time I order it, I'm reminded why I keep coming back. It's not just a novelty because of the size. It's genuinely delicious, generously filled, and an incredible value for the amount of lobster you get. It's easily one of my favorite lobster rolls anywhere. This trip was disappointing although the food tasted good but it was overcooked. Stuffed scallops had a smear of stuffing(not enough to even taste) and the scallops were rubbery. Broccoli needed seasoning and that leads to my next issue. Not good leadership in the dining room, salt and pepper shakers did not match and were filthy and empty. Left over Xmas light in greens, half were burned out. The manager needs to take a step back and take a detailed look at the place. A good place for seniors as the prices are quite reasonable. Have not been able to get there for a few months. What a joyful time it was for me and my husband. We noticed a few changes since our last visit. I was very pleased with a new woman who seats you. Brandy not our waitress was awesome, she came over to our table to make sure someone had been over to see us, our waitress was good but Brandy was excellent she had many tables and some of them large but she was doing it all with a smile. Came in early evening in October. Sat at the bar with some regulars. Kind and funny bartender. I got the prime rib with mashed potatoes. Hubs got a 4 way with fries. We wanted to get the salad bar, but knew it would be too much food as we were leaving back home the next day. Prime rib was perfectly medium rare. Horseradish was nice and spicy. Crust on the prime rib was to die for. Shrimp and clams were tender. Haddock was delicious. Only bad thing was we didn't have enough room in our bellies to try the blueberry pie. I tried Bull N' Claw today for the first time. I had heard mixed things. It seems to draw an older crowd, at least for lunch during the week. I got the lobster Louie which is what they call their baked stuffed lobster. It was delicious, but maybe not quite as good as the one at Hobb's Harborside. My boyfriend took me here last night to get the prime rib deal...omg it was delicious! When you walk in, it's like going back in time with a retro feel. The place has been open since the 1970s. We were seated at a wooden table with green and white checkered curtains framing the booth. We ordered the prime rib special, 12 oz and a 16 oz with veggies/baked potato. The endless salad bar was only an additional 4.99. The cut of the meat was so good! I could taste the seasoning on the crust, with creamy horse radish and au jus. I'm so happy we found this hidden gem in wells, me. The prices are not bad either. Our waitress was Shari, who was accommodating and helpful. She took my soy allergy seriously and the service was good. I'm often fearful of dining out because of my allergy, but she made me feel comfortable and went above and beyond to reassure me that my dining experience was amazing. You might have to wait a bit to get seated, but it's worth the wait. I really enjoyed the nostalgic ambiance and home-like feel of this restaurant. There's staff was welcoming and friendly. We visited the Bull and Claw while on vacation this week for dinner . We had 2 adults and 2 kids. The kids had fish and chips and mussels and we had the baked haddock plain you had to add the side and we also had a frozen mud slide which was delicious.The prices were pretty reasonable. But a bit bland and small amount. The staff was great very friendly and atmosphere was nice e as well as. Plenty of seating and handicapped access. we had a pretty disappointing experience last night at this restaurant. We went in hopes that we would find a replacement for our beloved, departed, Warrens. Instead, we got: 1) pretty abysmal service -- after waiting a long time to give our order and then receive our food from a harried server who seemed more annoyed by our questions than interested in helping us figure out the menu, I had to wait an additional 5+ minutes for lobster tools (crackers/a pick/something to hold water dripping out) after the lobster itself was delivered. I had given up and had already hand cracked, drained, and eaten one claw/knuckle and the second knuckle by the time they arrived. 2) mediocre food (cheese ravioli, and sauce that looked identical to what I can buy at the grocery store, and fake maple syrup (?!) on the "maple salmon" special) (pro tip: real maple drops as drops and doesn't spin a thread). 3) overall, lack of attention to detail. The bathroom was out of paper towel and I let the host table know; when I went back to the bathroom at the end of the meal, it was still not replaced. I found a roll of regular paper towel underneath the sink and put that on the counter so that people could dry their hands off. I don't know what the situation is with the restaurant; the best we came up with was that perhaps they are short staffed currently. They have clearly been around for a long time so things like the lobster crackers taking forever were especially surprising because oftentimes, a restaurant that advertises lobster (in essence) in its name will have baskets of tools etc prepared and ready to grab as soon as(or before!) the lobster is delivered. The salad bar was okay; nothing fancy, but fresh and refilled. It was weird (to us) that specials include the salad bar, but entrees don't -- and so we paid an extra $5 for the privilege. The lobster itself was DELICIOUS. Otherwise, this would have been a 2* review. all of this contrasts with an experience that we had earlier in the day in Portland, which I will also review today. I am a frequent diner at the Bull and Claw. This afternoon I had the worst service from new hire LOGAN who was not prepared at all to fly solo. He was terrible. In 50 years I have never had such terrible service. For me. the service makes the meal and today I couldn't get out of there quick enough he was so bad. My thoughts are he isn't going to last, but in the event he does, I will definitely ask when I come back if he's working and if so, I will not sit at any of his stations. That is how bad he was. WHAT A FRIGGIN' JOKE!, my wife got the 2 footer lobster roll to share with her mom on mother's day . It claims 3 (three) lobsters meat will fill this. NO WAY! There was not three lobster tails, not 6 claws or the equivalent of 3 lobsters body meat. DO NOT BE FOOLED, this is so sparsely populated with lobster meat. The chiabata roll was crusty and good, but who wants to pay $45 for a crusty roll that had a piece of lobster dragged through it. DON'T FALL FOR IT, ITS A RIP OFF! We also ordered the onion chips........another joke. There were literally 10 onion chips an inch and a half long, for $10!! WTF.... The owner says their portions will bring a smile to my face, WRONG! I go to this restaurant all the time. We were on vacation this week and we decided to go and order a large bowl of steamers. When the dishes were served they put the rinse water in the bowl and put steamers on the side. If there was 10 steamers that was a lot..... what a huge disappointment! Excellent prime rib! We got the prime rib and lobster combo and we're not disappointed! The service was a bit slow, but she kept out water glasses and beer cups full (always a must if kitchen is behind) and was very pleasant! Only complaint was I ordered the prime rib rare and definitely got medium, but it was so well prepared I enjoyed it! I was as shocked as you as I'm a staunch rare meat eater. Great experience. We ordered two 24" lobster rolls which were shared between four people. It was the cold lobster roll with light mayo and lettuce versus the warm lobster roll with butter... the winner is... you can't go wrong with either one! While you might not pick a lobster roll based on the bread, this bread is what sets it apart. It was a delicious crusty baguette. We also ordered the onion chips which were served with a spicy sauce. These were like onion rings without the rings. One order was plenty for the four of us. We wish we had found this spot earlier in the week as they accept reservations for parties over six (required for parties over six) and we hadn't found anyone in town that would take reservations for eight. read more

We stopped for a birthday dinner on our way to a concert. The waitress took our order and eventually brought us water, promising to be back with bread. We heard this from her several times as she went back and forth to other tables. We waited about an hour and finally asked her to check on our food. She said she would check on it in a minute. I finally went to the front and asked the hostess if we could speak to the manager. She said yes, but didn't get them. I explained that we needed to get going to our event and that we still hadn't been served. She said that she was sure it wasn't done on purpose, which had never entered my mind. Then the waitress came up and asked if we had ordered steamed clams. When I said no, she seemed unable to find our order. Look - service is not their strong suit. Some servers are very good, some seem to have a harder time with the pace of the restaurant (which is fast - it's busy and they are not staffed very well, which... no one seems to be these days). But the food has ALWAYS been great. Always. Never have we left disappointed and we've been several times. Their portions are reasonably large and filling so you don't leave hungry. My favorite part of this restaurant is the salad bar. Since Covid, so few places have salad bars and this is, by far, the star for me and for my family. We LOVE it. It's an extra charge with a meal but so very worth it. It's well stocked with multiple items and dishes you can try and they have a very good Italian wedding soup (not homemade, but it's good). They usually have a beef barley or a chowder as well. The service at the hostess station? Eh. LOL Sometimes it's pretty bad. Abrupt, rude and rushed most of the time (just our experience). We've seen some rude (IMO) exchanges with guests when it's busy. But it is what it is. The bar is so freaking low these days for service that I'm just expecting it now. But anyway - food is great and I really loathe spending $$$ for our family of 4 and hating our meal so it's nice to go there and feel like we got a great meal at a reasonable price. read more

The prime rib was stringy, chewy, rubbery and impossible to cut even with their "steak knive". Baked potatoes were not freshly baked seemed as though they'd been around for more than a day. First time at Bull N' Call was a pleasant experience. Our sassy waitress was funny and attentive. We started with Dirty Martinis which were tasty. Our meal started with a warm roll with butter, dinner included fried haddock and scallops with fries and coleslaw, sirloin steak cooked medium well, and another sirloin steak cooked medium rare with a 1 1/4 lb Lobster. The steaks were 8 oz each and nicely charred. My husband and I have been coming here for at least 10 years. The food is consistently delicious, affordably priced, and the waitresses are wonderful. We love the salad bar. The Bull n Claw reminds us of the restaurants we grew up going to. The ambiance is welcoming and homey. We stopped while in Maine and we're told that they were short staffed but they were accepting diners. So we decided to stay they have a full menu and a great bar. We all decided on the turkey dinner. I like to give them a good review but we never got our meals. After a 45 minute wait, our waitress came to our table and said that 7 employees in the kitchen tested positive for Covid and they had to shut down the restaurant. I felt bad for her she was very attentive even though she was extremely busy. Actually I saw the same 4 waitresses handling all the tables and each of them did it with a smile. The next day we drove past this place and the sign outside said they were closed due to a staff shortage. So I do not believe the Covid story and shame on them for using Covid as an excuse.
