Happy Hour oysters, shrimp cocktail, and tuna bites with a deck punch
    Cara S.

The River House is one of many restaurants on Bow Street that sits just above Portsmouth harbor on an elevated deck. Each of these restaurants serves their own deck punch, which is a must try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Each of these restaurants also has unbeatable views of the water from their decks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered happy hour oysters, tuna bites, and shrimp, plus two deck punches. Each food item was $1.50, which is very affordable. They offer one kind of oyster for happy hour, which they told us would be on the sweeter side, but I found them to be briney, which I prefer anyways. They were fresh and delicious. The shrimp cocktail was plump and super fresh. The tuna bites were basically deconstructed tuna and were absolutely incredible for $1.50. The deck punches were slightly weak for my taste but still super nice to sip on the deck on a hot summer day.

What a cute spot! Searched google for waterfront dinner and this was where we landed. They gave us a shaded spot where we could still enjoy the view. Got seated right away even though they were pretty busy outside. I had the salmon. Delicious flavor and cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes and broccoli paired incredibly with the miso glaze over the salmon. Key lime pie for dessert was a great choice. Good size slice to fill us up. for a cocktail I got the blood orange paloma, definitely wouldn't order again. I only had a few sips. , the flavor was off and extremely strong. Other than that, great experience! **Didn't get any photos because we were sooo hungry but I did love how they marked my food with an allergy pick!**

I was on a solo trip and stopped here for dinner. Everyone was very nice and the wait staff was super attentive. I sat outside there was no wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will say it's a light tight and I could hear the whole conversations of the tables next to me but it was worth it for the view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was delicious. A bit of a small portion but good and filling none the less. Overall it was highly enjoyable

Lobster roll and chowder, 'nuff said! Friendly and fast service too Was in town on business and stopped here for my seafood fix

The food was amazing. The lobster pasta is to die for and the lobster roll is hugeee. Alex, our service, was amazing and super knowledgeable about the food. My friend scratched herself and was bleeding and he got her a bandaid. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is obvious amazing, music is good, scenery is beautiful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] request Alex if you want a great experience !

Perfect spot for our lunch after checking out the sites in Portsmouth. Super location with a covered deck overlooking the harbor. Based on Yelp! reviews, we decided this was the place. We chose wisely! Our party of 4 was warmly greeted and immediately seated outside over the water...killer view of the harbor and the daily goings on (watched a tanker being guided out to sea, not something you see in Reno...just awesome!). Our server, Kyle, was friendly, funny and knowledgeable about the menu and the area (not always the case). Started with a refreshing local IPA, Stoneface...crisp, not too hoppy and perfect after our sojourn around town. Being a chowda fan, opted for their award winning seafood chowder. Thick, buttery and full of seafood (what I abhor is clam or seafood chowder that is mostly soup and potatoes...not this one!). Was going to try try the lobster roll, but at $42, opted for the fish tacos (I know, it's the location but just had a few days earlier for half the price that was spot on). Tacos were decent, a little light on the fish (see photo), but hit the spot none the less. My wife went with the quinoa salad, topped with the crab cake app. Delicious! All in all, a nice lunch experience and will certainly be back on our next trip to NH!

    Lobster Alfredo - delicious

We chose this restaurant because of their reputation for care in dealing with gluten free needs. My partner was not disappointed. The fryer used for the fish and shrimp basket with fries is always gluten free. Like my lobster Alfredo, the gluten free meal was a large and delicious serving. Along with a nice river view, we enjoyed the friendly and fast service. Having Heineken 0.0 on hand was an extra bonus.

10 stars for the food -2 for service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good view outdoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Went with a tall ship. Some of best clam chowder I have ever had ! Chips & an excellent fully packed lobster roll. Tasted incredible. 2 stars for service. Wasn't very crowded- waitress was nowhere to be found for refills- actually asked her in passing- still took a long time ,as did receiving bill

A great selection of seafood apps, and a variety of meat options in the entree section (steak, chicken, lamb, short rib, duck) and a couple of vegetarian items. Something for everyone. It was a Tuesday night and pouring rain. We arrived without a reservation. It was very busy. The bar and restaurant were full. There were two side bar seats available which we happily took while we waited for a table. We had a delicious cosmo and a glass of prosecco while we waited. The server let us know our table was ready, and we did not need to settle our bar tab before going to the table. I love that! I find it inconvenient when restaurants ask people to do that. The server even took our sopping umbrellas and put them in the umbrella stand by the door for us. So nice! We tried 2 appetizers, the Caribbean Curry Mussels and the Seared Ahi Tuna. I can't decide which one I loved more. Both were fantastic. The broth the mussels were in was so flavorful, rich, salty, not spicy, coconut deliciousness. I wanted to eat it all like a soup. There was no bread served with the mussels to soak up the broth...which I would have loved, but not having it did save me some carbs. The seared tuna was absolute perfection. Very slightly seared and served with a well dressed seaweed salad and two sauces (coulis style ) a charred jalapeño aioli and a mango coulis. For dinner we shared the arugula salad with strawberries and goat cheese (although there was very little goat cheese) in a delicious poppy seed vinaigrette, and the miso Marinaded seared salmon with sticky rice and mango salsa. The salmon was fantastic...perfectly cooked, very flavorful, the sticky rice was so delicious and chewy, and the mango salsa added sweetness. I love that they split the salad into two dishes for us. I love when restaurants do this. It's a nice touch to acknowledge the server was listening the we intend to share, and to make it easier for us to do so. And we shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio. I will be back!

Fresh lobster with a great cheese combination. The crisp of the ritz crackers really brings the entire dish together. Good amount for the price. Would recommend. - Baked Artichoke Dip - $16 - Deliciously cheesy without everything feeling too heavy. Good amount of pita bread too! Would also order this again.

The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxing meal. We ordered three appetizer-sized pasta dishes so we could try a variety, and every one of them was outstanding. Our favorite was the clam pasta with its bright, citrusy sauce--it was absolutely delicious. The lamb stew parppadelle was flavorful, although a little saltier than we prefer. We finished with dessert, and they were just as impressive as the rest of the meal. I'm so glad we discovered this gem during our visit to Portsmouth. Do NOT order the charcuterie. $9 for a single slice of cheese (some varieties of which you could purchase at market basket) or for a single piece of prosciutto. Absolutely absurd. And charging for bread and butter is kind of....different. Additionally, and not unimportantly, the music they were playing was so loud it made it difficult to hear people at our own table. And the air conditioner made the room extremely cold. Overall, could have been a better experience for the prices we paid (about $500 with tip for 4 people).

We found street parking close to the restaurant so that was great while paying close attention to the fact that street parking is not free in the area until 8 pm. I made a reservation and we were seated right away after we entered the restaurant. Our table was situated on the first floor so the area was small but we had enough space between table to have a private conversation. I started out with salmon tartare and it was my least favorite of all. I found the pita to taste somewhat stale and I ended up not eating it. Salmon was good but I did not find that cream cheese added to the dish. It might be a matter of personal preference but I wished I started out with something else from the menu. My shrimp scampi was delicious and I would come back for this dish. Pasta and sauce were great and shrimp were a nice size. I then went with the beef stew. I found the pastry to be somewhat salty but it balanced with the stew that was slightly underseasoned. Maybe it was intended to be that way. It was a decent dish overall. I loved the strawberry panna cotta. Their rhubarb chutney was beautiful and the dish was a great way to end my meal. I would come back to this restaurant in the future to try out their regular menu.
