Bob's is a diner that operates 24 hours a day satisfying those late night cravings. Bob's is a one of a kind in an area where 99pct of the businesses in the area are closed at midnight. It's clean but clearly in need of a makeover. Does what it says it does. Not much more to say. If you are looking for a good diner meal 24 hours a day, this is your spot. Nothing about it stands out. Portions are okay. Selection is average. Service was a little off. On this day, I was hungry, so I went with 2 eggs and toast, biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Crispy edges and runny yolks. Bacon was average. Thin sliced and not crispy. That's on me though I guess for not asking for it that way. Biscuits and gravy was below average. Biscuit was heavy and bland. Sausage gravy had alot of sausage in it, but it was aggressively salty. Toast was just right also. Service was very spotty. I give somewhat of a pass, as it was New Years day, but alas, I should not have to ask for a glass of water three times before it shows up. Even on the busiest days. This is not a large diner, so when three groups who came in after us had already had their order taken before us, I was a bit miffed. Right when I was about to say something, she came over. As I said, it does what a hole in the wall diner is supposed to do as far as the food goes. The service needs work though. I will try again and see if it was just a one time thing. For now? You get the sense that Bob's, right next to the tracks, has been here in one form or another since the General Tom first chugged up and down the river. It definitely feels like it was built from an old railroad car....an old box car, that is. The general odd, dim layout and mismatch of the odd new fixture with formica tables made during the Coolidge administration is a tip-off that you are not in one of those fake "Diner" - looking diners, but an actual honest to god Diner. Let's go through the checklist: Open 24 hours: check. Breakfast anytime: check. Bottomless cup of coffee: check. Hiya hon service: check. Regulars: check. New customers treated as well as the regulars: check. I have a few quibbles (I don't like "roll" omelets) but the food was hot, relatively prompt, tasty in the grease and fat areas you want, and cheap enough (although I'm still not quite up for the diner prices around here, but that's just a sign I'm getting to be an old fogey). Nasty staff and nasty server, we work late night, we went here because they are open late night and end it is perfect for our bar staff to go to after we close. we went there that night with myself ) bartenders and servers) and the security staff from our night club. She was very short and Condon sending to us, we finally asked to speak to a manager and we were bereaved by the girl behind the counter. I've only had breakfast food here, mostly at odd hours, intoxicated or hung over, but every experience has been positive. They have really good pancakes - comparable size to McDonald's hotcakes, so don't expect a stack of two to be super filling, but they're fluffy and delightful and come with whipped butter and syrup. The bacon left a lot to be desired but I can let that slide. Sausage was good. Breakfast sandwich is HUGE and something outrageous like three dollars. Omelettes are NOT LACTOSE SENSITIVE FRIENDLY but since I am the 10% (of East Asian people who don't react to dairy) I enjoy the full block of cheese that comes with. Home fries are nothing to write home about and toast is very buttery. As far as diners go Bob's Diner is above average diner food. A classic, legit diner. We have been here a few times and the food has been consistent. The portions are large and arrive at the table hot, not just lukewarm. The place is small and clean. We have always been seated promptly and served quickly. Our most recent visit we ordered eggs over easy, bacon, and homefries- a sausage patty with french fries and a steak sandwich with onion rings. All tasty and fresh, no complaints. Surprised to see only 3.5 stars on average- I declared my experience as best breakfast I've had in a LONG time. I've been to Bob's quite a few times and have never had an issue with their food. I always get the breakfast bowl and coffee (which is unlimited). My girlfriend and I will both get breakfast there and the bill is only $25 usually for both of us. However, when I went yesterday, I ended up getting food poisoning from their breakfast. While I've never had a problem before, that is unacceptable in my mind. I've never given myself food poisoning while cooking at home, and a restaurant should be held at a higher standard. read more

My favorite part about Bob's is that it's open literally whenever you want to be there. The service is perfect. The wait staff is very friendly and they make you feel very comfortable. There's always a good spot to sit and it's clean. The two star rating is for the food. It's not great. I had the eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce was horrifying. It tasted like butter and american cheese. However, the eggs and home fries were decent. I'll definitely be back - let's not beat around the bush here. Recently, on a crisp, cold autumn morning we decided to try a diner we've been driving past a lot since moving into our new house. We walked into Bob's Diner, and after waiting a bit for a booth we were finally seated. At a booth right under the air conditioner. Which was on full blast. Did I mention "crisp, cold autumn morning?" So we sat under the AC, shivering, and waited for the bus girl to take our drink order. An waited some more, then waited a little longer. Finally after about 15 minutes she wandered over. The waitress came over soon after and took our food order. The food came out fairly quickly, and she topped off our coffee. Then we literally NEVER saw her again. No, seriously: LITERALLY. I will give them this, there was a lot of food on those plates. But for the price they are charging, the quality should definitely be kicked up a notch. The coffee was bitter and burnt, the bacon was paper thin and flavorless, the home fries were bland and buttery, the eggs were ok...I mean how hard is it to screw up over easy eggs? Then there was the french toast. White bread, egg wash, griddle, done. No seasoning at all. This was seriously made with WONDER BREAD. Who does this at a restaurant any more? This was more like "I'm at home, I'm lazy, but I want some French Toast" kinda French Toast. Not what a diner should be serving. So we ate our breakfast in shocked, freezing amazement. Then waited for the check. And waited and waited. The waitress was NOWHERE to be found. Finally after 15 minutes the bus girl came and cleared our dishes. But the waitress was MIA. 20 minutes after our dishes had been cleared we were finally sick of waiting, and went to the register where we stood for a few more minutes before a different waitress came over to help us. We could have literally walked out. She asked us where our check was, and we told her that we were wondering the same thing. Then we rattled off what we had ordered, whipped out the debit card, and finally escaped. The clientele at Bob's was mostly elderly or older folks. Open 24-7, open until 2 on thanksgiving day. Awesome hours. A good place to go when it is really late, or really early. The most recent visit was after an 10k run - so really famished I have visited this diner about ten times, never when any other options are open and always when I am really hungry. And I always order breakfast, because it is very hard to mess up breakfast and it is even harder when you have lots of practice. I think the trick of enjoying a meal at Bob's is to order breakfast and be in a somewhat altered state of mind (hungry and/or wasted). Also, avoid anything that requires fresh produce. With that caveat, I have to say the breakfast at Bob's is okay. My food has always been warm enough, thoroughly cooked and promptly presented. While, I am sure that most of the ingredients arrived on the back of a Sysco truck, they do a good enough job for me to ignore that and keep Bob's as a viable last resort. read more

Can get crowded at the end of the night and the patrons at these times aren't always the most behaved, but any other time is what you find at other diners. Sometimes on a Friday or Saturday night I just want to get hammered. So I'll hang out and close down the Black Bear down the road and it's somewhere around 4 when I roll out the door into the middle of a silent, empty 19th street and hope the cops don't decide they're bored enough to bother me. So I'm dragging my carcass through six inches of snow and eventually make my way into Bob's with bloodshot eyes and breath that could kill a full grown yeti with alcohol poisoning. The ladies behind the counter still manage to smile at this gruesome visage and point me to a seat and hand me a menu. There's usually a cup of coffee or two in front of me before I even have to ask. If I have one complaint it's that they seem to have double printed their menu, which makes it a little tricky sometimes. Also, the two ladies behind the counter have the same voice and I think they might be identical twins. Anyway, as far as I can tell, you can get four eggs, a ton of bacon and toast, and almost two plates worth of fried potatoes for not even ten dollars and it's fantastic. They only have one person behind the counter during the day though, and I think stuff costs a little more but it's still not expensive at all If you ask nicely, they will put almost anything on an omelette. Just went for dinner and I order the Chicken Parmesan. The chicken was greasy and rubbery and the pasta was mush. I would say the chicken was processed/frozen and dropped in the deep fryer right out of the freezer. The pasta was obviously cooked previously and microwaved, I took one bite of the Chicken and one forkful of the spaghetti and that was it. This place really scrapes the bottom of the barrel as far as restaurants go. Everything is premade and either frozen or from a can. I didn't think it was possible to screw up breakfast but they serve microwave bacon and make their french toast from a regular slice of white bread. We walked into the place, with a full house, and were turned away with an explanation that the dining room was closed, per Governor Dickhead. I understand that during COVID, for whatever egotistical reason, restaurants close early, but grocery stores can be open later. However, it would be nice if someone took the 2 mins and changed the time online, to the correct one. Side note..... There were gunshots on the very next street over. And Bob's Diner is just like every other diner: average to poor. I got there, and it took them about 15 minutes to take my order...A bit too long, I feel. I got a Western omelette, but it was not particularly well-advertised that it came drenching in cheese (I am lactose intolerant). I asked to get it redone, and was met with a bit of cold and disgruntled service...But this level of mediocre to poor service was not out-of-left field; I was, after all, at a greasy spoon diner. It took about another 15 minutes to get the new omelette, which was a bit goopy, or in other words: rushed and undercooked. On January 14, 2021, I and a friend stopped at Bob's Diner for dinner (since you can do that up to 9p.m., dining room closed at 9:30p.m.) We got a cheeseburger with fries and gravy, swiss mushroom burger with sweet potato fries and drinks. I have to tell you the food was AWESOME! Burgers done perfectly and those sweet potato fries were so good, hot, fresh, no salt as requested and I tried the fries with gravy. Okay, some at Bob's has perfected the gravy to the exact science of gravy. Hello can you say my taste bits were dancing happily? Seriously folks support your local diners and restaurants I know Bob's has been in Watervliet for many decades and the food is ALWAYS good. During the pandemic I've been trying to support Bob's Diner but the last order broke the camel's back. I've ordered close to $100 each order. It seems the employees cannot read. Twice I ordered the turkey dinner and twice I received NO cranberry sauce and the receipt showed NO onion on my salad each time loads of onion. My last order had 5 items how can you screw it up. They did. I ordered 2 strawberry shortcakes and got NONE. It took them an HOUR to put my order together!! I no longer will support Bob's. read more

This place is nothing to brag about. It is a typically diner, I think it is a dive but nonetheless at ok place to grab breakfast, especially in wee hours of the morning after drinking all night. Their serving plates look like they are about 40 years old, just funny to me that their haven't updated plates, but I guess if it isn't broken why fix it right?
